    5 months, herniated lumbar disc.
    I was super active martial artist.
    I need to get over this living nightmare.

      Keep doing exercises like McGill big 3 and walk a lot. Don't lose hope buddy. I'm right there with you. Just stay active however you can!

      Hey man, whatever it may mean to you from a stranger. there is light. You will reach better days.
      I am 30 now, in Dec 2017 I injured my low back. after a year and a half I managed to get an MRI approved (until then they told me it was a muscle strain), everything I tried to do to fix a "muscle strain" didnt work, I also had 3 physical therapists re-injure me after I was making progress on my own. The injury was causing intense spasms that would happen at any time and make it near impossible for me to stand on my own. It was mentally brutal, going from climbing mountains in the PNW, running trails etc... to not being able to do jack shit. I fell into a hole, which trust me, if you can avoid that, do it at all cost.
      Fast forward to middle of 2019.
      The MRI showed that I had 4 bulged discs in my low back from L2-S1 with sciatica impingement. I thought, that explains a lot. I went into attack mode from there, started hanging from a bar as much as possible to decompress my low back. I strengthened it and started practicing mental exercises (imagining moving in crazy/free ways, focusing on every limb and being creative) that helped my mind relearn movements without performing them and risking re-injury. Eventually I got up to the point I bought a mountain bike and that has tremendously helped with my low back. I no longer have any issues, really, with some days being an excpetion, but i know it's temporary now, and I just need to get on my bike to loosen up.
      2023. my upper back has been on fire since I could remember really. I Grew up farming and working with horses, bucking hay every year since 6 or 7 and over the years I injured myself a lot, flipped quads, bad landings or even good landings at extreme height (60-100ft) with cliff jumping lead to a fractured orbital eye socket, few cracked ribs, multiple whiplashes over the years
      . I decided to get MRI's done middle of 2023 on the rest of my spine. Turns out i was a bit more jacked up than I realized. I've been having neck issues for a long time, kinks, movement difficulty, etc. The fire in my upper back, and stabbing rib pain below my shoulder blades at times. I do everything i can to mitigate it and stay moving.
      The MRI I received showed that I have bulged/herniated discs from C2-C6. Severe cervical stenosis in C6 with Nerve impingement down right nerve root (explains the right sided weakness and numbness) i also have bulged discs in from T2-T6 (explains the fire). Well, im still moving, mountain biking, exercising daily again. Doing pullups, bodyweight calisthenics again, my neck and upper back is still a work in progress, i believe with awareness now, i will be able to reverse everything as long as I stay positive in my head and consistent with the little micro steps daily. Youll have setbacks, they may last a week, a month or more, thats okay. Stay positive, this too shall pass. I am in chronic pain as i wriye this, that doesnt mean I didnt get after it this morning and i wont again later. It means, i will go after more than the average individual. I want that sweet prize called "mobility" and i will take whats mine. Get after it. You can do it.

      Tldr; injured my back, turns out I have severe stenosis on top of it, still getting after it. Stay positive, this too shall pass. One step at a time.

      I HAD A NECK HERNIATION IN 2015. C6 C7 TOOK 3 YRS TO FEEL SOMEWHAT NORMAL AGAIN. 2024 NOW AND I CAN LIVE WITH IT

      @@finnmccool1160 about 3 days until I could drive and lift my head. And a further 6 weeks until it was almost normal. I still haven't been back to be honest but I'm about ready to...I'm 50/50 on whether I want to risk it again....I'm 37 and not sure whether I want to risk lasting damage haha

    Watching this late at night while having a neck injury after my BJJ training. I overdid my neck bridges & headstands.

      Neck bridges can be dangerous if you’re not already super strong in that area… a lot of trainers are not using them in their strengthening programs because of the risks.. get very strong with static isometrics and bands first, then try neck bridging if you really want to, I understand the importance of doing that for wrestling because that movement is a huge part of the sport but I feel like in bjj it isn’t as much, you put too much load on the cervical spine in that extended position which is bound to eventually herniate the discs… maybe not now or in 5 years but there’s a big chance that it will in 10 or 15 years and then you’ll regret ever doing them

      Everyone does is subconsciously, we judge their overall strength based by their neck. People with stable core have thick neck. If you train compound movements, that use your whole body, you'll naturally have strong neck and core. That's why some bodybuilders who mostly only use isolated workouts have skinny neck and it looks a bit off

      Also, men with thicker neck are more attractive because they look strong. Every male beauty standards are signs of strength. (Tall, big jaw etc)

    I wish I had listened to my anatomy teacher years ago regarding strengthening my shoulder girdle and had also thought about neck strengthening issues. Some injuries take you out of the game for good

    About to order one. 30 years old with severe stenosis in my C6 that has right nerve root impingement and disc bulges from C2-C6. Had multiple bulged discs in my mid-low back and have healed most of them by daily maintenance. Im excited to place the order soon, having to wait due to financial reasons, at the point of charging it onto a card just so I can start my rehabilitation.

    Disc injury is no joke, and there’s a lot of misinformation on strengthening the low back, things like deadlifts are a big no. Learn to do prone press ups regularly, strengthen the muscles around the low back, glutes, and have as much mobility as possible and avoid loading the low back as much as possible.

    Been dealing with C6-C7 herniation and left tricep atrophy on and off for 4 years, I've avoided surgery but I'm down to one more non-surgical treatment that I haven't already tried, if that doesn't work I will get surgery, only have trained about 1 year altogether out of the last 4, I miss the mats

    I had c5 c6 bulg recovered after 5 years now i have l4l5s1 bulg which is a nightmare my right leg is killing me i been using inversion table and yoga somewhat better i wish i had the knowledge to prevent such injuries

    I fucked my neck and back up in a car accident where io got rear ended at a stop light........ 4 years later and 4th surgery coming up....I agree with Jocko GIVE ME THAT METAL SPINE FUTURE!!!!
    I got a swole neck but my body too skinny by comparison and over flexibility makes it tough af as far as the chronic pain goes. It affects everything. Can't wait until future tech

    2 weeks jiujitsu i've got a spinal fracture, not sure if i will ever try again, almost paralyzed

      Probably better to not risk trying it again. That sucks man. Freak accidents happen. Especially if you start out of shape

      I'm planning on starting BJJ this really worries me, do you know how that happened and if it could have been avoided?

      @@alm7721 Sparring partner tried to do handstand on top of my shoulder while i was sitting on the ground. the weight and the force was too much for my waste. he was trying acrobats on me basically. If i was to try again, i would be very careful which gym i would choose, make sure it is beginner friendly (most seem to be, but they are not), and who i'm sparring with. See, the sport has become kinda mainstream so there are all kinds of people you'll encounter. So be very careful and observant. PS- the gym while being extremely friendly and "embracing" never contacted me again after the incident. do not haste to open and trust people, the psychological damage was sure as strong as the physical for me.

    Bingo! Flexibility without strength is a huge no, no. Yes, strengthen that neck. Especially the 50+ crowd! Girls sports too.

    You can DEFINITELY go too far with flexibility, i trained BJJ for about 2 years, i always played guard and had a great guard retention because i have great flexibility in my hips, but i guess my spine couldn't take being compressed by the entire bodyweight of another human being. I have a heniated disc in my cervical spine that i'm probably gonna need surgery for in a couple of months and i probably have a bulging disc in my lumbar spine

      @@futbol1972 Nope, still on recovery, turns out neck disk isnt herniated but is bulging, only until recently did it stop hurting, but the weakness on my right arm is still there and the discomfort isnt fully gone. The one in my lower back is still bad, but I started to use an inversion table and things are getting better little by little.

      @@diego-fl4ze My mistake was relying completely on my flexibility and not developing more physical strength first, also most of the guys I rolled with were considerably bigger, I just went too hard on my body without building the proper strength like Joe was saying here. My flexibility was amazing tho, still kind of is considering I haven't trained in 2 years.
