I hope Ttyd would go to the finals because I want that epic final with wind Waker but all these games are really good Also Jared in the thumbnail is a work of art
I think about how good Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door is all the time For the last...what, 15 years? I don't think I've gone a week without thinking about it. When I want to play Mario Kart with my friends at a hangout or at a party, I choose Mario Kart 8 every time. It's simply better suited for multiplayer (and the AI is better, of course). Not to mention online! Plus, all of the characters/maps from other series
I RESPECT AUSTIN'S VOTE AND REALLY APPRECIATE HIM VOTING HIS HEART. It was very clear which of these games he likes the best and that's worth something. It deserved that vote.
I feel like he has been the one to think things out the most this season. Like when looking at the bracket we all knew Shane was going to vote for Paper Mario no matter what and the same with PBG for Animal Crossing, and then with Jared there are times where he latches on to one game and you can't change his mind (not any thing against any of them, they're great, it's just something I've noticed) but Jeff seems like he's the one who listens to the points made the most and actually let's them effect his vote. I'd like to see him in more seasons
He's the observant type. He takes in his surroundings, watches and listens to everyone else, thinks about it, then makes up his mind. I really value that.
Luigi's Mansion was a short and sweet experience that's easy to pick up and isn't too complicated, which I'd argue makes it better for replayability compared to the length of TTYD. The game throws different sets of ghost at you with different health to change it up. The game design makes it so that you HAVE to scuttle across a certain distance in a tight room to be able to get some leeway on the ghosties, and they pop up at different rates or in different quantities depending on how much space you have to walk in a room. It shows you where your key goes in case the concise layout of ten rooms a floor gets confusing, and almost every room has a meaning. This isn't even talking about the sound direction/design and how charming it is to hear Luigi hum the main tune in a frightful nervousness, or a cheerful stride if the floor is lit. The sounds he makes when interacting with the environment, the cackles of a ghost that caught you in it's little trap, the little "Bweeeeeeeoooorrghh" of the elemental spirits you suck up to gain the respective element and also the whipping of the vacuum and the "fwop" of something getting sucked in... How about the fact that you can scan the environment and Luigi will reveal his thoughts about some things and how that can show you some crazy secrets? We could also talk about how the lore of the inhabitants aren't right in your face and that you can go see the portraits you make of them? The fact that your vacuum can also shoot out items caught in it as a projectile? Like, it works with so little and does it really well. Also, the reward at the end changes depending on how well you did exploring the house and collecting money! Of course, Paper Mario: TTYD is a really great game, and I'm not mad to see it move on, but Luigi's Mansion should have been given a bit more credit IMO
Im quite confused. I remember Forest saying he didn't like RPGs but now hes saying he "Is an RPG guy"..... Am I miss remembering ? Like dont matter either way really but just remembered saying it in defence of them during the whole FF 9 and 7 thing and now Im not sure if what I said was true xD.

I swear me and like 4 other people out there have actually used stylish moves in TTYD. I never hear people talk about those and it makes the game like 10 times better than it already is. I mean c'mon, you can do tricks while attacking!
I literally cannot use the hammer without hitting A as it hits the enemy, it's like my brain hardwired itself into thinking that was part of the action command because the resulting backflip is just so good.
I don’t understand how people don’t know how the ‘Stylishes’ exist in TTYD. I thought it was mentioned in one of the skippable tutorials but, like, I wouldn’t know as I never need to see them. I always make sure to be Stylish, and I’m very experienced with doing it for every attack.

Oh yeah without a doubt. Double dash beats Mario kart 64 Mario party 4-7 are just better than 1-3, everyone says 2 is the best, but it doesnt control very well, and I would even go as far to say 3 is the best N64 one because the boards, and minigames are more fun. You can argue melee is better than Smash 64 But that's all I can really thing of for gamecube. I think the games are better but N64 just had more of them

Some of us including me would have absolutely LOVED a Paper Luigi game; it was even teased by that Toad NPC in the Koopa village. Luigi’s Mansion sure tackles how Luigi reacts to the hurdles he comes across, but hearing about his excursions, buying his books from the Shops that explain in detail what actually happened, gave Luigi more personality.
A really tough choice, but TTYD definitely deserves the victory. I respect that Luigi's Mansion vote from PBG though. It's a really good game, but it's hard to vote for it against TTYD and Double Dash.
TTYD has to be in my top 3 favorite games of all time. The only RPG that i didn’t complain about all the dialogue because it’s hilarious. The game is amazing

Definitely played A LOT of Smash and Mario Kart with my friends on Gamecube. Clocked thousands of hours of multiplayer, but I only knew another one person with a GC, on the other hand that made sure we were always together at the same room playing.
I'd say multiplayer was big on GameCube, but despite owning it, I don't remember playing MKDD much when friends were over, I remember primarily playing Smash Bros Melee, Kirby Air Ride, and Timesplitters 2.
PBG is injecting so much chaos into this bracket. He's voting for crazy things, won't let certain games get dropped, putting aggressive opinions out there. I never would have expected Double Dash to get no votes and Luigi's Mansion get more than it.
Great video my dudes! Though Jared, "4 RPGs on the Gamecube"? Now I KNOW you wouldn't be forgetting the Beyblade RPG title for the Gamecube, would you?! (Just jokin', love y'all.)
I totally agree with it being impossible to be subjective one thing I liked from earlier madness seasons was Lee explaining his picks as "based on the arguments made". It's still not completely subjective but it would be cool to have the 'moderator' have a more unique reason for voting.
Also you realize it's not even close to being a stereotypical a JRPG as FFIX is. Have you played paper Mario? It's incredible but I hate all the final fantasy games that aren't 7 or 10
RPG's and JRPG's don't line up well for 1 : 1 comparisons. The battle mechanics might be similar, depending on the two games being compared, but how the story is being told/shown is almost always completely different.
Yeah, JRPGs and RPGs are very different. I dont think you can even properly compare Paper Mario and FF, theyre just so vastly different in every way really.
Goldeneye Rogue Agent and Nightfire were the last amazing James Bond splitscreen multiplayer games. Oddjobs hat on nightfire and the Fun House multiplayer level from Rogue Agent with instant 1 shot kills on was amazing.
Letting PBG know in the comments: you made the right choice. If I was voting between those three games, I would've chosen Luigi's Mansion as well. Nobody was giving it its due, but it's an incredible game, and to me, the second-best game on the bracket (behind Super Mario Sunshine). I respect you, man.
I've played all three growing up. We sold Luigi's Mansion at some point though, and even before we did I was scared of playing it (I was an easily frightened child), but I have since watched two playthroughs of it on PBGameplay (PBG Sucks At and PB&JEFF for the 3ds remake). Double Dash and Paper Mario we still have and play. I love them both and I think I would enjoy Luigi's Mansion now. That said, I think I'd have to vote Paper Mario, the deciding factor for me being that after I play any Mario Kart by myself for a while I get bored, with Paper Mario, yes the fight can get a little repetitive for me but it has other things in it to encourage me to keep playing; the humor, the story, the characters. Paper Mario for me with Double Dash a very close second especially when taking playing with friends into account, and Luigi's Mansion in 3rd.
You say there are 4 RPGs, I can immediately think more than that on the gamecube, but I suppose Skies of Arcadia, the 2 Pokemon console RPGs, a gamecube port of that combines the 2 Evolution games, Fire Emblem, Phantasy Star Online, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Yugioh falsebound kingdoms, Tales of Symphonia, Megaman X: Command Mission, and Baldurs gate would be easily be forgotten over the ages....yes I either played or been have exposed to all of these games years before this video.
These always make me want to jump in and yell my opinion like you guys are doing so I guess you're doing your job well in being an engaging off the wall madness discussion series!
This was indeed a tough one lol. Luigi's Mansion is a real good game don't get me wrong but one major flaw: It's short as hell. Double Dash and TTYD will give you a much longer experience while Luigi's Mansion just sorta ends before you can experience more. Sure it was the game that bought out Luigi's core personality but I really can't compare that to TTYD where a bunch of characters has their own personalities and character developments (Vivian being a good example). Between DD and TTYD, it's either multiplayer vs. RPG. If I want to play a multiplayer gamecube game, I'll play Melee. If I want to play an RPG Gamecube game, I'll play TTYD lol. So yeah TTYD for me lol
Talking about mutliplayer games: My friends and I mostly played Mario Party if we were gonna play Multiplayer on GCN. And none of those even made it on here somehow.
"Luigi's mansion beats paper mario in personality" (paraphrased) Yo PBG, TTYD had a trans woman in it, and she was abused by their siblings till Mario came around and helped them. And she was a side character! How you going to dismiss that?
when they talk about their favorite multiplayer games on the GC, and how multiplayer games don't need to have as much charm, I was just thinking at the back of my head the whole time about Mario Strikers.
Fitting that the final match would almost be an instant replay of the N64 bracket. That’s almost what going from the N64 to the Gamecube felt like in my experience. ...and I’m right there with PBG in that we were SO close to a three-way vote! That would’ve been cool to see. Maybe next season?
peebs you defended my game even knowing it would lose, for that i thank you and respect ya. objectively i would have picked double dash cus to me the essence of gamecube is multiplayer. pm: ttyd although good its still not as good as mario rpg "to me at least" ...BUT if i was to replay any of these right now it would be luigi's mansion. ***ps i'm a luigi fan and have beaten pm ttyd once double dash had like 80 multiplayer hours. but luigi's mansion i've beaten at least 6 times from beginning to end.*** its resident evil luigi for peats sake even as a glorified tech demo i love this game through n through Finger crossed for a good luigi's mansion 3
Something I kept thinking about that I was surprised no one said for Double Dash (both this round and previous round) is that DD only has 16 tracks. Starting with the next game, DS, every Mario Kart games have 32 tracks. It's just something I keep thinking about because even though I love DD, only choosing from the same 16 tracks in multiplayer grand prix knocks it down a bit for me in terms of the best Gamecube multiplayer experiences. I love the game, but TTYD all the way.
From my perspective, this really came down to Ttyd and Luigi’s Mansion, in terms of an experience, only because there’s more modern Mario Karts that are way more playable and intuitive, where you really have to come all the way back to the original Luigi’s Mansion to experience a good version of it and you have to come back to Ttyd because the subsequent Paper Mario games have lost the elements that made the series so lovable. That being said, I can totally agree that Luigi’s Mansion seems rushed towards the end. I guess, as an individual who very rarely played multiplayer games with friends, I lean towards the two single player games because I had more to invest in the experience where Double Dash I could only have a “full experience” with people on rare occasions. Happy with Ttyd winning though.
Y'know, as a long time PBG fan....His unique personality really shone this bracket. Not necessarily in a good way. In his videos he's always made sort of strange almost child-like jokes. Almost kind of cringey when you're not used to them. As you get used to them it's not as bad, and even becomes enjoyable. However, for some time I always thought "Oh surely he's not actually always like this, it's just to make his content more family friendly for youtube!" But then you eventually come to realize this guy is genuinely this big silly lovable goof of a person. There's nothing wrong with that, but I could tell Jared was getting slightly frustrated with it.
Sasaki Jeff too, I think. I think this bracket really showed that Jared, Shane and Jeff are the more level headed guys, and Furst and PBG kinda get caught up, stuck in their own line of thinking.
It's fun hearing the good and bad points of these games regardless of the fact i knew before it started who would win this round. I don't "know" these guys but i know them well enough to say it was a pretty clear choice in the end. (even though Austin would pick Luigi's Mansion lol)
I’m pretty stoked cuz going into the finals this has been my bracket so far. A few games lost their first round that I wanted to win but these are the two I had going into the finals. WW is my all time favorite game and TTYD is pretty high on my list too. I really hope WW wins and I would be surprised if it didn’t but either way I’ll be happy with the winner. Now we just need melee to win the losers bracket
I love all three of these games and the one I wanted to win has won. Mario Kart has so much nostalgia for me playing it with my siblings and cousins as we grew up and Luigi's Mansion had this charm that I loved as a child but Paper Mario is one of my favorite games of all time and weirdly enough it was actually the game that really brought me into RPG's. The final will be interesting as they're both phenomenal games.
So, did nobody remember the character development of Paper Luigi? Like, PBG was going on about the character development of Luigi in Luigi's Mansion; however, that completely disregards we get to hear about Paper Luigi's adventures in Paper Mario.
Gonna be that guy again: Double Dash has a lot of nostalgia for people... but objectively it’s maybe the fifth best Mario Kart game. The double mechanics are cool, but at the end of the day amount largely to an aesthetic difference more than anything (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe brought back double items and it’s basically the same thing), the tracks are all decent to great but nowhere near as inspired and ridiculous as later entries in the series would get, and there’s simply too few tracks overall especially compared to later titles (4 cups instead of what would become the standard 8 with DS on, and you you don’t even UNLOCK the fourth cup until what feels like way later than other games in the series). I’d put DS, Wii, 7, and 8 all above it in terms of quality, variety, and overall fun. In terms of GameCube games I think Smash, the 4 Mario Parties, the two Timesplitters games, the Burnout games, and Need For Speed: Underground all have better multiplayer. TTYD, meanwhile, is not only the best in its series, it’s the best RPG on the GameCube, arguably the best RPG in the entire Mario RPG sub-franchise, and arguably one of the best RPGs of all time. It oozes personality, creativity, cleverness, charm, and fun in every corner of the game. It’s battle system is perfect, it’s story is simultaneously hilarious and even kind of tragic, it’s characters are some of the most fleshed out and beloved in the entire Mario franchise. It’s a Grade A masterpiece. It’s not even a contest, really. Oh, and it’s also better than Windwaker.
Paper Mario TTYD is my favorite game of all time so I'm excited to see how far it can climb through the ranks. It absolutely should win this whole contest in my opinion.
I feel like you should render madness in 21:9 aspect ratio. You're sitting in a long horizonal line anyways, so you might as well cut the empty space on the top and on the bottom.

Nobody was giving it its due, but it's an incredible game, and to me, the second-best game on the bracket (behind Super Mario Sunshine). I respect you, man.
The winner is unexpected for me, but I really liked the opinions you guys gave.
Funny episode, great winner, thank you :)
I dont expect you guys to make the right decision, as usual.
"Luigi's mansion beats paper mario in personality" (paraphrased)
Yo PBG, TTYD had a trans woman in it, and she was abused by their siblings till Mario came around and helped them. And she was a side character! How you going to dismiss that?
Whoa, I like Vivian, never knew that about her!
when they talk about their favorite multiplayer games on the GC, and how multiplayer games don't need to have as much charm, I was just thinking at the back of my head the whole time about Mario Strikers.
"Cool. Thanks for coming" had me in stitches
Did y’all even mention any Mario Party as a good multiplayer on the GameCube? 5 and 6 were fire 🔥
whenever i hear that background music i can't help but think of homer's life completely falling apart
26:52
Super Mario Sunshine lurks in the background, waiting for a chance to steal the spotlight.
Fitting that the final match would almost be an instant replay of the N64 bracket. That’s almost what going from the N64 to the Gamecube felt like in my experience.
...and I’m right there with PBG in that we were SO close to a three-way vote! That would’ve been cool to see. Maybe next season?
I appreciate your attempt with Luigi's Mansion Austin, they just don't understand
peebs you defended my game even knowing it would lose, for that i thank you and respect ya. objectively i would have picked double dash cus to me the essence of gamecube is multiplayer. pm: ttyd although good its still not as good as mario rpg "to me at least"
...BUT if i was to replay any of these right now it would be luigi's mansion.
***ps i'm a luigi fan and have beaten pm ttyd once double dash had like 80 multiplayer hours. but luigi's mansion i've beaten at least 6 times from beginning to end.***
its resident evil luigi for peats sake even as a glorified tech demo i love this game through n through
Finger crossed for a good luigi's mansion 3
3:27 I think this is my favorite prop appearance 😂
The finals are gonna be torture. My favorite Zelda vs. my favorite Mario RPG.
Whoah, Jared! Having fun with the thumbnail, now aren’t we?
Oh wow I just learned of the first background song a couple days ago. Nice.
"This is panel of five guys who all love RPGs."
*flashes back to how everyone non-stop made fun of Jirard for loving FF9*
However, for some time I always thought "Oh surely he's not actually always like this, it's just to make his content more family friendly for youtube!"
But then you eventually come to realize this guy is genuinely this big silly lovable goof of a person.
TimeSplitters being mentioned made my heart skip a beat. Thank you guys
I love that you can see the moment Shane plays to steal Furst's joke lmfao
The foam is back on a killing street again
The Wind Waker vs. Thousand Year Door, two of the best single player experiences on the GameCube. Can't wait!
You gotta love the calmness and wisdom on Jeff's voice
This one was very good
Jared's and PBGs expressions killed me
It's fun hearing the good and bad points of these games regardless of the fact i knew before it started who would win this round.
I don't "know" these guys but i know them well enough to say it was a pretty clear choice in the end. (even though Austin would pick Luigi's Mansion lol)
Hammy talks about poltergeist and something falls on Furst coincident? I THINK NOT!
I just now noticed the dead Link on top of the shelving (with the Ezelo hat)
I’m pretty stoked cuz going into the finals this has been my bracket so far. A few games lost their first round that I wanted to win but these are the two I had going into the finals. WW is my all time favorite game and TTYD is pretty high on my list too. I really hope WW wins and I would be surprised if it didn’t but either way I’ll be happy with the winner. Now we just need melee to win the losers bracket
AUSTIN, MY BOI! This is why I love you! Haha! Luigi’s Mansion is a gem that gave the lime green light to the best Mario brother in the series!
Well, the final round is gonna be between my two favorite GameCube games, so so I'm looking forward to it!
Oh boy, time for the exciting finale of Mario vs Zelda :P
There's no way TTYD doesn't go to finals. It's not even a contest.
Eh. I dunno. I liked a lot of these games
The finals are going to be BRUTAL
They did not even bring up the music in Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, it's amazing!
6:26 Jared looks so satisfied with that pun XD
“Birdo’s in it baby!” So much yes.
Sweet. The winners bracket finals are gonna be my two favourite GameCube games. :D
I love this season, good call guys. Though I love Luigi's Mansion (more than double dash even)
