    When U first saw this video I called bull. But my 2001 GL1800 with 225,000k was idling rough like it was missing a cylinder. I had replaced the plugs and the air filter a few months ago and it never ran 100% I figured what did I have to lose. Long story short this transformed the bike. Idle smoothed out, response improved and its actually smoother at cruising speed. Even the cruise control response improved. Very pleased!

    The 01-17 gl1800 has NO power going to the ECM when the key is off. That means this procedure does nothing more than turning the key off. The radio stations and Nav’s memory circuits are powered by the fuse labeled “battery” which has nothing to do with the engine’s ECM and they will be lost if you just disconnect the battery long enough. By letting the engine warm up without touching the throttle will allow the ECM to re-teach itself how to control the idle, but the engine needs to be cold when you start that procedure.

    • @elixier33
      @elixier33 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It really does show how little the person that made this video knows about his own bike and yet here he is trying to teach us all to do something that he doesn't even understand himself. No need to disconnect the battery when doing an ECU reset and no need to do it anyway unless you really need to reset it for whatever reason which really isn't very likely.

  • @paulvernon1882
    @paulvernon1882 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have done the soft reset where you start the bike and never touch the Is throttle. Just let the fans kick in and turn off . Soft reset done. I'll do the hard reset this next weekend. Thanks

    • @paulvernon1882

      I have been told that the ecm will adjust the air fuel mixture, like if you are going to a higher or lower elevation area or large temperature changes and want let the ecm quickly recalibrate. If there is more I would love to hear it as well.

    • @apm6997
      @apm6997 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulvernon1882 i’ve heard of that with a carbureted bike like let’s say someone bought a used bike that was ridden in Montana for 10 years and now you’re in Arizona you might re-calibrate the carburetor air fuel mixture if you’re going to be pretty much riding in Arizona… I’ve heard of that concept, but with these fuel injected bikes you can’t really do that because there’s no carb to recalibrate so in that case, that means that everyone who rides Goldwings the way they should be ridden, which is for touring, as they go from one state to another from north to south from east to west you’re always gonna be stopping and doing a reset which makes no sense I mean that’s not practical. so in theory I understand what you’re saying but it doesn’t seem like that what actually happen in reality as you’re riding the bike cross country or from state to state. so I wonder if anyone else has anything to say about this also . very interesting subject

    I had an 2006 goldwing and when I bought it I was told the computer would automatically adjust for what it needs. For instance if you took the baffles out of the mufflers the computer would adjust for it, it might take a 100 miles for it to do it. So I don’t really see the point. I have a 2001 now, I might try it to see what happens if anything.😎 also my book says not to check your oil cold, warm up the motor then let set a few minutes then check

    • @mosmotorcyclejourney9067
      @mosmotorcyclejourney9067  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The computer will automatically adjust. You are correct. But it doesn't go back to factory setting automatically. That's why people will do a hard or soft reset process. As far as your oil I always put in 3.8 quarts and never have a problem. I check it only when I'm going on a long trip but it's never low.

    Hi mo. I didn’t know a re set could be done. mines an 02 and prob never been reset, it’s running sweet as always, so is it worth doing I ask? I did have a LOT of road noise off my Avon tires, sounded like they were rubbing on the mud guard too, change to Bridgestones and now is running quiet and smooth. 🇬🇧👍

      @mosmotorcyclejourney9067  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah. The dealer put stupid Dunlop tires on mine and I have to change them as well. Sounds like I got a bearing going out there is so much noise from them. Bridgestone is the way to go sir. Be safe and thanks for watching

    Just out of curiosity what mile per gallon where you getting on your 02. Mine is right around 35 mpg, also what you getting mpg on the new bike

    • @mosmotorcyclejourney9067
      @mosmotorcyclejourney9067  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was getting about the same on my 02 35-38mpg. My 2015 was getting 41mpg on the way back from Texas, but wasn't loaded down too much with extra weight in the bags. It's hard to tell sometimes because I like to crank that throttle🤣🤣. Why because it's fun. Thanks for watching and ride safe.

    • @markfrisco
      @markfrisco 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 2001 had ECU issues, so if the previous owner didn't have to replace it, you will...eventually. How many miles does your bike have? I had to change the ECU in my 2001 at around 32,000 miles. From what I was told, the 30k mark is about where it happens.

      Not at all. I welcomed it. But let me say I went from a gl1200 to a gl1800. And that was a total different feel. But I wanted a 1800 and now that I have a 2015 I will not go back. Not too sure about the new body style yet. Too narrow in the front. I like a big bike. Thanks for the comment 👍

    I’ve never heard of such a thing. Taking your positive cable and connecting it to the disconnected ground with a jumper wire? So your grounding a positive lead that is not powered up for ten minutes and that’s supposed to reset your ECM? That’s wild.

    • @Kwhopperfan
      @Kwhopperfan ปีที่แล้ว

      @Canyon Glider yeah I had no intention of trying it, knowing full well it would have zero effect on anything.

    What was the purpose of hard ECU reset?

    • @mosmotorcyclejourney9067
      @mosmotorcyclejourney9067  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The purpose is to reset the computer back to factory setting. For example ,When people ride these goldwings without changing the air filter at scheduled maintenance time the air filter can be dirty and the computer can tell the bike to suck more air because it is somewhat plugged. Then you buy the bike and change the filter without doing a reset process and the bike has already learned to suck more air, that can give you a bike that burns more gas. Because with more air comes more gas. That's just one example. It's a good practice to reset these things from time to time. It may make a difference.
