Agreed. BMW used to offer 4 platforms: 3, 5, 6, and 7-series. Including 3 and 5-series wagons, a total of six configurations. The were engine options and, of course, M-cars. Every combination was a great car for its mission. Now they make, I don't even know how many models (40?), but only one of them seems worth having.

Definitely not with an internal combustion engine :(. Audi plans on cancelling the R8 (which will be superseded by the e-tron GT) and the TT. The RS3 8Y will also probably be their last car with a 5 cylinder engine. Mercedes is going to replace the V8 in their AMG models with 4 cylinder engines and I don‘t think we‘ll see much from M Sport too. The M5 CS feels like a grande finale for the 5 series M... It hurts to see the this trend where carmakers replace their emotionally loaded cars with EVs and the 2025 EU regulations will more or less force carmakers to stop producing internal combustion engines because of their low emission goals. Let‘s just live in the moment and enjoy the last generation of cool and enthusiastic cars :)

Really nice review, but i cannot agree on the 6MT being the gearbox to have on this submodel. With all the carbon fiber and ceramic brakes, the CS is clearly MORE track-oriented than the Comp and if you are costantly doing power laps you need/want a DCT, so you can focus more on the track.
Fantastic video as always! If I was in the market for a new sports coupe, this is most likely where I’d put my money. It’s a tried and true combination of great size, 6 cylinder up front, RWD, and three pedals.

True for a more basic one but the CS name and its heritage have always been about reduced weight better on track performance even at the expense of daily comfort and carbon everywhere. The E46 M3 CSL was a perfect example about being true to the CS lineage and what distinguishes it from a normal comparably soft M car.

Had the OG M2 with the led steering wheel and the M performance exhaust back in 2016. It was awesome, great fun car and I hope whoever owns it now is enjoying it as much as I did. Swapped it for a 14 Vantage Roadster couldn’t keep both unfortunately but would have made a great two car garage. The M2 even the first OG one will keep with nearly everything on the road. The back end was a bit twitchy, hard to trust over the bumps. And the brakes were awful for long spirited drives or track. Glad to see they’ve sorted that on these later ones. Tried to get on the list for a CS after purchasing mine and the dealer was playing silly buggers hence looking for something else. I do think they should have gone full CSL and just offered the “light weighting” options to the competition. Make it really special but I get what you mean about the one car garage.
