    The curb weights are such a great addition to these videos. Real world curb weights are not an easy piece of information to come by, even from manufacturers, so the fact that Harry has his own scales and weighs each car is massively valuable.

      nes suno I would say all new cars fail at weight. Maybe Mazda mx5 passes the weight test.
      1400 kg+ with plenty of expensive carbon parts seems ridiculous to me. Only way to light drivers car is to go back in time. E30 can be modified fairly easily to under 1000kg. E30 don’t have all the bells and whistles of a modern car, but technology weigh a lot. Then again, 60s sports cars, like lotus Elan, make E30 look like an elephant.

    • @nessuno5403
      @nessuno5403 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@tiitsaul9036 I agree, but with more regulatory requirements and people wanting more features... fat chance! Incidentally, the carbon here is all cosmetic except for the roof and very expensive carbon brakes option! The M2 CS Racing for track, does without the heavy dampers or carbon bonnet or carbon brakes. On the M2 Competition, you can spec both a carbon roof and bonnet so it's lighter if you give up on the CS option of carbon brakes (standard are steel).

    The regulations for the official car weight changed recently. The M2C was probably still under the old regulations. For example it's no longer allowed to state the weight of the lightest possible version of a car. That might explain why the number for the CS with all the lighter components is around the same as the M2C in it's very lightest version back in the day.

    The reason for the weight difference is WLTP. If the car is heavier on paper, the given fuel consumption appears to be "better" for the homologation-weight. It's the same with the Porsche Boxster GTS you weighed some time ago at ca. 1.200 kg.

    Excellent review Harry, nice to watch a video from a reviewer who doesn't have an opinion that's influenced by a close relationship with a manufacturer or dealership. BMW priced this car extremely high, it is in many ways a manual F80 M3/F82 M4. Carbon roof, adaptive suspension, same engine, seats, gearbox and a suspension set up that's similar to the competition models. You also get a carbon fibre propshaft and no GPF filter. Find a manual M3/M4 Competition and they are far fewer in numbers than the M2CS, you'll also have £40K left overt o spend on a Porsche!

    I am afraid they have to quote the weight of the car without any additional weight saving extras. Adreas Preuninger said it about Porsche last year. And Doesn’t BMW quote the number with 70kg driver amd full tank?

    Maybe Harry could pin this.. but weight is given by BMW/Mini with full fluid levels plus 70kg driver - some models (X6 M) also seemingly (if memory serves!) give weight with two occupants; driver and passenger. My 2020 Cooper S 3dr* is 1156kg without fuel (44kg), coolant (6kg), screen wash fluid (2kg) OR passenger (70kg) for the on-book number of 1278kg or 2813lbs.
    *no options picked - base car in "Classic" spec - options add extra weight.

  • @tibhen8473

    6 pistons carbon ceramic brakes are 20 k heavier than the 3 pistons normal, also the CS has the special suspension .... hence it is same weight as M2C

    12:16 Harry mentions the capped torque curve. Whether that's to protect the gearbox or to simulate NA power delivery is hard to say, but a lot of turbo engines are like that.

    • @st33fie
      @st33fie ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a clutch thing. Same goes for the M3/4 if you want to tune it. You need to replace the clutch with a heavier one. The DCT is OEM capable of 800nm.

    I broke my back 20 years ago and (touch wood) no issues since, but I think this car would change that. And imagine having to worry about getting stones caught in your calipers!? Sounds like something Ian Dury might have worried about, but not your friggin' car!

    Yes, I thought Harry would review this one. A performance driver's car, no cuddles, requires lots of driving discipline on the road. Given the £23k premium, Harry's suggestion - spec a M2 Comp seems a good one - not sure if Chris Harris' M2 is a comp (though looks like the CS tested here)?
