There's something I've barely heard people talking about, and that's the fact that the movie makes an effort to make you understand how races work. This is no Fast and Furious bullshit, where drivers watch someone behind them and somehow drive faster. Ford v Ferrari explains you a few mechanics (For example: The brakes have a limit, or the fact that Ken's Ford can pass 7000 RPM when used properly...), and then shows you how those mechanics affect the race. From then on, you don't need no motivational speech, no "I can't lose this time!" bullshit, you just watch how the drivers struggle to find the right moment to push, or otherwise, they're gonna blow their chance. And all this is not achieved by constant exposition nor any kind of ex-machinas. Ken "wins" at the end because he's an expert on the matter, and treats cars like a living being.
