Love the video! I have been into electronics repairs since the early 1970s, but I have never been good at surface mount stuff. You have enlightened me very well though. After many years working very small parts with aircraft autopilot servos I have a plethora of tiny tools very well suited to removing the case without causing damage. I already work on cell phones and iPads etc. But I might have to replace the battery in my Hero5. Hope not. But that is why I watched. You did that much better and with great explanation, better than the few other videos in taking those apart. WAY TA GO!
I made an oversized template to use the existing screws and dropped the entire gopro sessions camera into liquid nitrogen and froze the camera with broke the adhesive. I used the oversized template as leverage to open the camera. No pry makes whatsoever.
Livyu, Can I replace a bad OSD chip in the same manner? Let's say taking an AT7456 from a minimOSD board and putting it on an FC? Is any programming needed or do they all just work with Betaflight? This is so awesome. I just successfully transplanted a tiny 5 pad rectifier onto a VTX board with my heat gun and it works. So stoked to repair.
When you dissasembly such devices apart use sharp flat knife instead of screwdriver. On this way you wouldn't leave damage when "attacking" gap edges. Thumb up for "BGM" rebowling solution. Good work!
@@LivyuFPV Yesterday I dissasembled mine Session 5 for the same reason. I leaved front glass and frame and put hand cord in small front frame hole. Heated it up to almost 90C degree using small 12V 50W halogen bulb. Put some glowes on hands, took camera in one hand and pull cord with another. When this side popout i used knife to popout another side of frame. Disassembled it without visible marks at all. Glue what GoPro using is the same like glue for "modern" waterproof mobile phones (LG G6, G7) what get soften abve 80C degrees. Now I'm searching for the same MCU what you're exchanged. My frend had one crashed main board but he sent it already to you;-)) If you have some spare MCU or you're found source I'm highly motivated to get one. @@balkicroatia damn... sorry to hear that. I used that mcu :( The issue is that the mcu has a firmware on it that does some things before powering the camera up and boots the main linux firmware. Thats why its so important to find one that is already flashed. After i broke mine the second time by mistake trying to clean the epoxy from the metal groove on the case because after a hard crash the case unglued itself... i replaced the second time the mcu, it worked and i also used a little epoxy on the mcu to protect it in the future because it is pure sillicon and its glass like... Maybe someone here sees this and has a killed motherboad but with that mcu in good shape.
Hey, I love your videos.. I have a DYS F4 v2 Pro that when I was soldering, I splashed a blob on the pins of the main chip. I tried to remove it and I thought I was successful, but I notice certain things aren't working. I'd love to send this to you to see what you'd do or how you'd go about repairing it. Hello what about the battery when it fails to hold a charge. I have had my Hero for 3 years and the place I have the warranty with says the battery is not covered even though you can not change it.
do you know what part in the session 5 make the wifi work? my wifi is not working anymore my phone cannot see the session 5. is there a way to use a donor part from another session to fix the wifi?

Hi there, first of all let me say that I have been enjoying your videos a lot and the reapir videos are something new and quite interesting that are giving me the itch to try my hand at some SMD soldering and maybe repair some of my stuff! Now, I know I'm quite late to the party and you probably won't see this message, but in case you do, do you have any idea where one can get the internal lens for a gopro? Unfortunately I broke both the protection lens and the camera lens, so I have been looking for a way to repair it. Thanks ;)
Amazing skills can you tell me if the symptom for this repair was dead GoPro that just gets hot when charging please. I have opened mine up the battery was 0.8 volts flat. I removed battery and charged it the reattached it and led light up for five seconds only then board got warm until battery flat again. Any ideas please my friend. Thanks. Andy 👍👍

Dear sir. You Re super duper genius repair man...salut!! (beer)... By the way....could you please help. I have go.pro session 5 and during power up,.... It just show NO SD CARD.. Again and again..... I had factory reset. And change with other sd card but the result is just the same. Could you please suggest what is the fix for that? I am so desperate. I need the lcd of a session 4 to be replaced. The light on it was starting to disapear like a month ago, I was able to see some of it on dark and right now can t see anything at all. The camera works fine except the lcd. Are you in?? :D

Hello Livyu FPV! I got i drowned gopro sessions5 with missed one capasitor (one of 6 capasitors installed in row right below of the corner pcb like in your donated pcb) could you help with nominal of its capacitor!? I will be glad to any help :)
Anyone know where I can get a 601-06750-000 or 601-10257-000 battery for the Session? I tried GoPro directly and that failed, so I'm back to trying to find something that fits the size.

@livyu FPV Hi Livyu i have sent you an e-mail. could you tell me the values of the resistors around the chip 14:33? I have described it more exactly in the e-mail.
EPOXY? you not only will have a working waterproof session, but also a session you will never be able no open again for repair. also if epoxy in the cracks will fracture, it will let water through. so better apply some high strength glue, something that stays elastic, but softens above 100 degrees, like the glue the've used, cause thats why the session5 is easy to take apart. luckily.
@@LivyuFPV hm I also just realised epoxy gets soft too with heat I guess.. cause its basically just hardened plastic.. it depends on what type of epoxy it is I think, but for the sake of being able to open it easily and don't have to mix some 2k nasty stuff, I would use glue instead personally:)
Hiya livyu i have managed to get one of these apart quite easy (session4) without making too much mess of the glued seal .Ive got another one to take apart soon and will video the process.the end result is a less damaged seal between metal and plastic box. it helps to use a heat gun first to get apart to warm up the glue much easier great vid thanks

Nice work Livyu. I believe what your characterizing as a "Hex Screw", is actually a Torx Screw.

Nice repair! TIp: You can use kapton tape around the chip to protect the other components from heat and avoid desoldering/damaging them.
I know... I usually use coppper tape ;)

Tried with something like that but it does not grip how it should... Flat screw driver worked the best.

neah... they used something like epoxy... very very rigid.. like cement... cause its a pain to release it from the groove.
