After many drone crashes my GoPro Hero5 Session LCD screen no longer worked. Here's a video of how to take the Hero5 Session apart, replace the LCD screen and put it all back together again.

This is probably the most comprehensive and helpful video on YT concerning the repair of a Session 5. Well done, sir! I havn't attempted to fix the 2 I have just yet, but this will be the video I follow when the time comes, one will not charge or power up any longer after a quad crash, and the other I need to change out the lens (scratched to hell by the outer protective glass that shattered in a crash). Thank you for this!
PS extra points for turning a prop blade into a pry tool lol
@@8B1tbreaks Exactly! I keep a couple of old prop blades on my work bench for this purpose. Super useful!

The Session 5 is a challenging puzzle! I've destroyed quite a few with my quad. Thank you for posting this.. gonna give it a shot.
Good work. My session 5 is 2.5 years old. Luckily I had no issues so far and the battery still holds its juice
I busted the screen on one of my Session 5's last night, it still records but I think I'm going to try replacing the LCD, cheers for posting this it will come in handy.

Thanks, you helped me a lot. I tought it can't be diassamble without brutal technics. I just fixd mine ,that was sit in the drawer for years now. The battery cable was broken. No ide how it happened inside the box.
Nicely done video. I've got one that stops recording in any little crash, even if I clip a twig it will stop. I took it apart, but damned if i see anything that could cause it. I even tried gluing that ribbon cable under the battery because it popped off so easily, no dice.

Did you know that the SD/charge port lid is made to clip off and on?
Eases the repair procedure quite a bit, and you won't risk breaking it as you go.
You make it look so easy lol. I have to replace a battery in one of mine and hopefully it will be this easy to get it open.
Take your time, it’s not a sprint. If something isn’t coming apart then step back, think and approach again. It’s not that difficult tbh. Good luck

at some point gopro started using heat resistant glue for session 5. mine would not budge no matter how high I heat it it
Great vid bro! Detailed and clear. But i just want to set my lens back in focus. Do i need to strip it all the way down or do u happen to know an easier way to turn the lens without having to go thru all this?

It's positive negative and ground

Probably the red one is positive black is ground and about the white one i dont know it could be a signal wire or something else.
White one is the one that is the thermal protection

I have a this the camera got really hot while charging and the red light couldn’t turn off, so I took it off the charger and it only cooled down after a few hours. Then it just never worked after that.
Do you know if the lens is maybe somewhere for sale (i do not mean the front lens i mean the little curved lens which is on the inside.... great video
I’ve not seen any spares for sale. For the OLED screen I bought a second broken GoPro and extracted the working screen. I think it’s the only way.

Hello to lcd buy
My session 5 was dead and got warm when trying to charge I opened it up removed battery and charged it with a one cell lipo charger to 4.12 volts when I soldered it back on charged I had momentary activation. Now won’t start up. Do you have any ideas please.And do you know where new battery’s are available please. Thanks fpv nut.
You might have fried it. It should only take 3.8v so anything more could have fried a capacitor or something

@@cornishmule2157 I have an update. So battery has been warm for more than 4 hours after removing it from the charger. It won't turn on. Connecting it back to the usb charger won't turn it on either. Then in the evening, the heat around the camera was gone. I connected it back to the usb charger and it finally started charging. I turns on now.

I got the spare screen from a broken GoPro I bought on eBay. I think that’s among the only option for spares.
@@cornishmule2157 Do you have the part-number and size for the battery? Then it might be possible to get a close fitting battery instead of an OEM GoPro.

just do a search on ebay… kind of pricey at $20-$30... but cheaper than getting a refurb session 5
