    Thanks for this thorough coverage. Replacement rear touch-screens are now available.. (reference your comments at the 2:50 mark).. Adhesive is T-7000 and is a little more pliable to pry off if it's heated a lot beforehand.. My screen was already shattered, so I continued to destroy it in the removal process.. Got the screen out by pushing with a thin screwdriver from the back corner after battery housing removal. I used a sharp X-Acto blade to scrape the remaining shards of glass from the adhesive/edge where it's seated. PS - Don't forget to reinstall the speaker at the 5:45 mark, and the (6) little screws holding my armature were T3, not T4. Cheers.

    the lense cover has a slight twist and it comes off. you don't have to snap it off. for the GoPro dive suit this cover has to be removed, and it's very easy to remove by twisting it counterclockwise, it's less than a quarter turn at best and it just lifts off.

    I bought a refurbished GoPro Hero 5 black. After about 2 months the LCD just stopped displaying anything, but it was still responding to touches (because the settings icon appeared on the front LCD if I swiped on the display). I figured the ribbon cable must be making bad contact.... After watching this video I noticed that the ribbon cable runs behind the battery cage before clipping into the motherboard. By removing the battery and pressing firmly down onto the location where the ribbon cable clips in I was able to get the LCD to make a connection again! (No teardown required)
    Great video!

    Nice vid, but need little mention, gopro filter can be detached just by rotating it, no needs in breaking it to pull back again.

  • @JOELwindows7
    @JOELwindows7 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Sir you've made a fatal error on disassembly: The lens caps can be simply removed with just a little twist on the cap, to the left as usual. This video seen you've used pryer to do that.

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Joel Robert Justiawan you're probably right. Where did you see that?

    • @BenedictTanShanWen
      @BenedictTanShanWen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's hardly fatal. Removal of the lens housing is to twist it off as it's designed to do so. Instructions for such are included with the Super Suit housing.

    • @iftibashir
      @iftibashir 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      JerryRigEverything Pull outwards on the lens cover and twist to the left. It pops right off. It's designed this way so it can be easily replaced if scratched.

    • @JOELwindows7
      @JOELwindows7 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      JerryRigEverything it is on 0:35 . I know you didn't know that because the little instruction isn't imprinted. GoPro, please tell people max properly next time. Imprint the twist icon on the next production of lens cap now on

    • @BenedictTanShanWen
      @BenedictTanShanWen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joel Robert Justiawan In fairness to GoPro, as I mentioned the instructions to remove the lens are included on the Super Suit packaging. Generally speaking it would not do GoPro or anyone any good for people to be taking apart their HERO5s without any need to do so. The most common reason previous GoPro dive housing wind up with leaks for example is particulate matter stuck in the gasket. Needlessly removing the dive housing unless you are actually doing a replacement or Super Suit installation just creates an environment for things to go wrong.

    Hi there, great video. I have a question maybe you could answer. The tiny gold ribbon cable that connects the power button (and apparently the sound on the video) has come out of the connector and the white connector latch has broken off (happened while changing out a lens). I'm able to fit the tip of the gold cable back in but it won't stay in place when I reassemble the camera. Is there some way to glue it in place? If so which glue could I use safely. I've tried using a tiny piece of electrical tape but it doesn't seem very effective though I have got the camera to work but without sound on the video. Thanks in advance!

    do you manage Electrostatic discharge control when touching those printed circuit boards? it makes me wonder cuz i had a training about it that if you touch those PCB without ESD control (such as wrist and foot straps), it would damage those IC'S and other parts in the near future and end up not working. thanks.

  • @jonuldrick
    @jonuldrick 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    you wouldn't happen to to know what those three connectors are called that attach the ribbon cables to the main board, would you? I'm trying to make an extension for them to fit a gopro in a very thin slot. there is space on one side for the lens, but not enough space for the whole go pro on the other end.

    Would have been interesting to know if the lens itself can be unscrewed from the sensor housing (has been possible on Hero3/4). Some people like to swap out for narrower angle lenses.

    • @irmods
      @irmods 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lens socket is glued to the sensor board and the lens can be removed but not the same way the Hero3 and Hero4 were. Also the lens thread is NOT M12 like the other gopro cameras so you can NOT swap lenses unless you put in a custom M12 socket made to fit the Hero5.

    Hi Zack 🙂 I’ve just found your vid on the GoPro hero 5 and absolutely love it, but I have a question as I have just purchased a used GoPro hero 5 and like it heaps, but the problem is the audio, so I went on a search to find a little adapter to attach my mic to ,the problem is I’m only able to find an adapter that in Australia is going to cost me in excess of $100 Aud (if I’m lucky, possibly more lol) my question is , I have scoured the internet trying to find a solution , or a diy fix to this as my previous GoPro only needed a $4/5 adapter for a mic, but there’s absolutely nothing I can find, what I need to know is what makes the “GoPro mic adapter for GoPro 5/6 so dang special) and why can’t I diy it ??? Or at least put something together for considerably less that will work, what is in that adapter that makes it so expensive.?? Hoping you can help , if anyone can figure it out it’s you lol 🙂👍 keep up the awesome work, cheers from Australia

    I have a gopro hero 5 black and it began to overheat right after the warranty expired. I have done everything to remedy the problem with no success. Gopro wants me to buy a "known good" sd card, but I am not interested in spending more money on this camera. In normal use, the camera will record for a maximum of 2 or 3 minutes. If I put it into the freezer of my refrigerator, it records for over an hour. Obviously the temp sensing component has gone out of range and is defective.
    Any idea if the temp sensor is something that can be replaced? I've rebuilt cell phones and have done some very complex work. Just wondering if this camera would be worth opening up to attempt this fix. Appreciate any input. Thanks!

    does anyone know if the hero5 or hero6 would work without the back LCD? what I mean is, will the gopro start working if you leave the back LCD unplugged?

    Front lens may back with rotation.
    Если линзу повернуть и установить через поворот, то получится гораздо быстрее и проще, чем как на видео.

    Maybe freezing the adhesive will do? It will become crunchy and easy to break, just like when gums are stuck in shirts. But I don't know

    I've replaced my lens cover because it got cracked when the camera tipped over. Now the new lens is much easier to remove than the original. Is it still waterproof?

    The touchscreen on mine stopped working just because i took off sd card and battery. It works fine just no screen. any idea what might be? Gopro claims im not using the right sd card which is not the case since with another sd card the screen still doesn't work. so im clueless and now have a half working camera.....

    Just wondering... How did you get Windows 95 running natively and not a virtual machine from a USB? I can't figure it out
