@youtubeguy555 this part is so simple yet had been left out of the video. I've tried multiple times to safe the codes on the sd card and none of my two cameras were responding. Then I read your comment pressed enter after typing each code, saved as per video instructions and both cameras did reset as shown. So if you're reading this and the codes don't seem to make your camera reset then do exactly that: after you type in the notepad file _tapp factory_reset hit enter to make the cursor drop down into the next line. Then safe onto sd card. Same goes for 2_mode=0
Worked OK for the reset (thanks for that), but even then the Quik app did not recognize my Session4. But... then I realized I had to disconnect my phone from the local wifi network (which is nowhere mentioned in any instruction on the GoPro site). After disconnecting from any wifi network I tried connecting again, and now the connection was properly established. So, you might add this to your instructions too....

Can I reset it without having the pin? My friend sold me one and idk if he stold it.i asked him for the pin and he said there's no pin. So I'm guessing he stole it. I can still record just have to remove the SD and view it on my tablet or phone each time. It would be nice to use the app tho. I couldn't get this working. but i managed to get it to reconnect after i went to bluetooth settings on my phone, tapped on the gopro then forget this device. hope this is helpful to someone.
it kinda worked i can at least use the menu previously it was just saying highlight tagged and arrow pointing down. dont think its reset anything though cause its still asking for the previous owner password on the app
This did not fix the connection problem... Sorry I didn;t see where it addressed connection. I can format a disk many ways. Connecting the camera to the app is my problem...turn the App setting on the camera and it works but when I open the app on my phone it will not connect. Says Camera not found....
@@brandonsandoval2661 I cant upload any of my go pro footage as I can't access my go pro it won't connect through Bluetooth so I can't access my footage to upload anything the camera won't pair with my phone
@@funfairproxlr8306 if not, do you have a extra SD card? You can do that fix with the extra sd card then after the device is fixed you can put the sd card with the footage back into the GoPro and should be able to view it from the mobile app.
Download TextMate. Use Disk Utility to "Erase" your SD card, and choose MS-DOS as the format type Create the files with textmate as shown in the video, but choose "CR/LF" as the line ending type, and be sure to name the files "cal.txt" and "no_shutdown.txt", note the extensions. Eject the sd card using Finder or Disk Utility.
Hello, after you format the SD card try connecting your camera to your computer and delete all files showing up. Then put the SD card In and make sure it’s only the two text files on the device.

Ticiano Batista Neves please try to save the file names with .txt after the name. Instead of “cal” save it as “cal.txt” please let me know if that helps.
@@brandonsandoval2661 I did try unfortunately it is not working. Not sure if it`s because my camera cover is all black, don`t have colors like your. It keeps showing 30 FPS, WIDE, time of recording left and 1080, with 00 00. I also tried to save txt in UTF-8, don`t work as well

Click the wifi button the camera steady.for atleast 10 seconds or so.. you'll see a msg pop up saying reset wifi click yes (record button) and that should reset wifi settings.
Mine did not work. However I got it to work by leaving the sd card in. I will make a video of what I did and hopefully help someone who tried and did not work.

Is it not just a card reader??? Someone else mentioned to format sd on camera. Plug CAMERA into pc. Delete all found files and directories. Save your files… that way. But I haven’t done it..

This trick worked perfectly - now it connects to the smartphone. I also tried multiple times and nothing worked. Then added new line to cal.txt - and it did the job.
So after _tapp factory_reset u just hit enter as if u we’re gunna start a new line and that’s it? And then instead of “cal” u write cal.txt? So I’ve done a factory reset that go pro got me to do and the “app” setting on my GoPro still doesn’t do anything but just beep and doesn’t enter the setting to pair with phone.

this is BEYOND amazing. Incredible that GoPro does not offer this service...

I know this is old, but tried this and my unit is still displaying the same repeat as yours without going to the "factory reset" displayed.
Didn't work for me either, when clicking the record button after re inserting the SD card it just displays O like his then goes to OO: OO then to 1.

I’d try this, it’s a factory reset to fix any software / firmware issues. If this doesn’t fix your issue it could be hardware related

just hold the small button for about 8 seconds, it will reset your wifi.

It worked for my old "Hero Session" - wifi works now!!! But you need to put new line in cal.txt after the command.

I did, and it gets stuck in a loop on resetting. I can't do anything with it now, it just starts overheating.
