    Many thanks for the video!
    A friendly tip, always open the packaging of any new part and inspect it before you start taking parts off your car!
    Don't ask how I learnt that..

    You know how rare it is that a TH-camr comes back and provides an update?!! Subbed. Freaking awesome that you got four years out of the beast, much more than expected. If only I could find one for my Subaru inner.

    @robertberin4872 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The hardest part is getting the screws in and the large clamp tight. Also if you put it on the inner make sure to use permatex gasket marker on the inside axle if your axle has the half circles on it because the boot is completely round & doesn't accpunt for the half circles like a beck akley normal boot does. EDIT: This didn't work! Ended up removing the axle asks putting a new boot.

    Just about ready to do the same job with the same product, wondering how your repair is holding up. Some have said these kits last 5 or more years, which is great considering the alternative. Thanks for your video!

    Thanks for video. Was wondering how it’s holding up?
    Thinking of doing this for my old (1993) Japanese mini trucks. All 4 axel boots are ripped or starting to and I just don’t feel like pulling 4 axels out. This seems like a great alternative when I won’t even drive much on these things.

    • @FreeAutoMechanic
      @FreeAutoMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Holding up well. Think it just started showing some wear about 9 months ago. No grease slinging out or anything like that. Just starting to dry rot some in one of the grooves. Overall I am happy with it still. I think you will be too.

    Would a worm gear hose clamp on each end of the boot work ok, like the way we replace crimped factory radiator hose clamps with worm gear clamps?

      I'm certain it would work on the small end. However, there may be a clearance issue on the larger end. Make sure you check that it will not hit anything. If you do try it out, let us know ho wit turned out. Thanks for watching!

      Just looked at the boot. After looking at it real close I am starting to see a worn spot or two that may turn into holes. But no grease slinging out or tears, etc. Overall I have been pleased with it. May go ahead and replace the axle the next time I need to replace the hub bearing on that side. I'll try and do an update video and show the boot with the wear marks I mentioned. Thanks for watching!

    Listen, there are many gifted mechanics working a video blog. In my estimation of this very high number of highly qualified service people only a mere fraction have the same innate talent for teaching. Thou have fallen into this fractional zone not because you are a genius teacher bit because thou clearly are just being yourself. I can't tell you how refreshing it is. So do yourself a solid and invest in some recording equipment. The only place where you seem to struggle with keeping it real was when you needed to use both hands to open up the directions. A simple tripod would cure that. I'd be willing to bet you've already done that. Nonetheless, I wanted to encourage you to keep going. Because in my eyes you're Head and Shoulders above many of the others

    Looks more like this is just a tactic which is going to buy you some more time before you need to install a real boot. I could be wrong, but it looks like this replacement part is not going to be holding in the grease the way it should. Temporary fix at best but maybe somebody will prove me wrong.

    These split-boots are next to worthless and that is being kind. Just spend the $100.00 +/- dollars for a new CV axle and do the job correctly and be done with it. Buy the necessary tools and such as needed. Buy mid-grade tools at Harbor Freight which are replacement guaranteed should the hand tool(s) fail. It also helps to have a helper for when things get difficult.
