Two very good questions. For the first, I believe that during the downfall of Rapture, Ryan lost grip of his morals, values and visions of what he wanted Rapture to be. So, I would personally say that yes, he understood what happened. For the second, absolutely. Whether it would've been a civil war, a clash of classes, a revolution, etc, I believe that Rapture was almost set up to fail no matter what. Again, great questions Garrison.
I dont think Ryan was a hypocrite, he was trying to maintain order without turning his back on his own morals, he realized the flaws in his ideas, he had to learn the hard way. Rapture was just doomed because of Ryan's stubborness and failure to admit that maybe some regulations aren't necessarily wrong, by the time he figured it out it was too late. His flaws lie in the realm of arrogance rather then hypocrisy. To answer both questions, it was because of Ryan's own ignorance and pride and lack of understanding basic human nature lead to his downfall. I have to applaud the writers of bioshock they made a game that on paper is just a shooter but like metroid or elder scrolls the story is hiding in plain sight.
@@smocloud Well Ryan has an ego almost as grand and large as his vision and ideals which were the foundation of Rapture. It was always someone else's fault. This reminds me of a novelization I read years ago called Bioshock: Rapture. Normally I don't read novelizations of things but when I looked up the author I notice he had written a Star Trek DS9 episode. (Also reading a Bioshock book is kinda like un-reading a Ayn Rand book, so there is that.) This makes the 3rd piece of DS9-DNA I have encountered in Bioshock. Andrew Ryan being voiced by Armin Shimmerman (Quark) and the doctor splicer being voiced by J.G. Hertzler (General Martok). Both klillin' it with the performances as always. So I thought it worth the read since I know those flavors go together. It was not bad, not sure if it is cannon. I don't remember much of the details but it was Bill McDonagh who was the "protagonist" for the most part and it gives a good enough appreciation of that character where I feel a bit bad when I find his body in game. All because he fixes some rich asshole's toilet, poor guy. You also find out Fontaine is even more supremely full of shit than in the games. Fontaine isn't even close to his original name and I am not sure he even remembered his real name in the book. He was like some sorta art-deco-era Captian Ginyu, changing identities with everyone he meets until his eventual demise as a come-to-life Atlas Shrugged paperback cover art. I feel like I am mixing too many nerd references. Paperback key-art, DBZ and DS9? Too much. Still it is appropriate that the one DS9 episode the author wrote was an "O'brien Must Suffer" ep. After all, Bill McDonagh is just another well meaning engineer with a thick UK accent who gets caught up in a bad situation.
Polybius I played the games before reading the book, and it was an absolute treat, since I thought I had played, read, and learned everything about Bioshock. Having just a little taste of what happened before everything went to udder shit in rapture, was amazing. I went back and played Bioshock one after reading, and finding little things in the game that were embellished more upon in the book, felt like I found a secret treasure and only I knew about it.
It always mystified me as to how there were so many people in Rapture considering it was under the sea and no one outside the people who were invited there knew about it, so there had to be a limited number of people. With as much death and destruction that must have happened during the civil war and then how much chaos that ensued afterward between everyone killing each for ADAM and then being killed by Ryan or killed by Fontaine/Atlas there shouldn't have been as many people left there to fight as the game seemed to portray. It seemed like at times the number of splicers in the game was limitless. Were people being kidnapped from the surface like they were doing with little sisters in Bioshock 2? Something I forgot to add was how many people had to have drowned from bombings of other places or just accidental destruction of certain sections of the city itself from the chaos inside.
Thats a funny thought. In bioshock 2 in dionysis park stanly pool drounds eveyone on that level but you dont see any bodies only wet floors. But right before father whales there is a locked room filled with water and a corpse floating in there. There are a few times you see water damage. Im surprised there wasnt more places that were inacessible due to flooding.
Good video. But If you’re still confused about the “genotypes and nucleotides sequences” It basically just means Fontaine purchased all the rights to research concerning genetic modification, DNA, and the human genome. (ADAM rewrites human DNA to give you powers, so Fontaine owning all this research means he can make better Plasmids and sell them for profit.) This is the market Ryan missed out on.
Wow, your great information about Bioshock history before Rapture's Civil War. Subject Delta was hypnotize and kill himself by Lamb in 1958. Elizabeth and detective Booker find search to find Sally this place in 1959. There was multiplayer in apartment for start to win before Jack arrive begin in 1959. My word to you. This is just the beginning.
Just got into rapture (ps+ free game of February) and I honestly could tell you put a lot of effort into this video!! This is probably a bit old, but keep up the good work
So I Just made a theory about what happened, hear me out on this! I know my theory isn't the cause, I just like it to make fan theories, anyway my fan theory follows Rapture, a city underwater, I mean.... How flippin' dope is that? Wouldn't you like t to live there? Only, there are things people might haven't thought about, Rapture looks nice and comfy yes but have you ever thought about the following things? Never see daylight, never feel a raindrop, never feel the warmth of the sun and never feel a single breeze, never be able to watch the stars at night That is kinda depressing you know? Since I thought about that, I wouldn't like it at all to live in Rapture, I prefer living in Columbia then, I mean, yes you can fall off to your death, but at least you feel the warmth of the sun and feel the breeze of the wind. But anyway, The citizens of Rapture could not feel the warmth of the sun, or the breeze of the wind, or rain, and didn't see daylight, and it could be possible that that was he thing that drove them all mad, they lost themselves because of lack of daylight and the sun. It's a miracle they still alive actually😅
I have a question, if Subject Delta was the first successfully pair bonded big daddy, then why did a pair bonded big daddy kill Dr. suchong while he was still figuring out how to bond big daddys to little sisters?
I'd say because the time lines are all screwed up due to Infinite. Yes, In Bioshock 1, Suchong was killed by a Big Daddy, due to him hitting a little sister, causing a pair bond. Yet, in Burial at Sea Ep. 2, the same Big Daddy that Elizabeth helped was the same one that killed Suchong. At the same time in Bioshock 2, Gil Alexander was able to figure out how to pair and he found the pheromone to do so. So there's a lot going on with it. It's a mind- f*ck.
I agree with you on Frank and Andrew Ryan are the two that caused Rapture to fall. ADAM was the third part that caused Rapture to fall as well. Frank used ADAM for power. Ryan didn't stop the ADAM when people were getting addict and causing their bodies to be deformed and growing insane. When you said Ryan assume the people will think for themselves and let go of the ADAM; however, the ADAM took over the minds and erased their freewill. Ryan was replaced by ADAM. Ryan failed to protect the people of Rapture because of his flaw ideas. ADAM was too dangerous and both Ryan and Frank refuse to let it go and they continue their civil war
Great video well done :) does anyone wonder how common law is reflected in rapture post civil war? We see that the law is often hyper individualized. Would love to see a court of rapture and an obscure objectivist legal system
One thing I would have imagine Adam Ryan could have possibly done to prevent the Rapture Civil War would have been to start making trade deals with other capitalist countries. It’s not fool-proof by any means but it could have been used in a way as a deterrent against smuggling (Which Frank Fontaine did quite a lot of by the way). Plus you have to remember, a majority of those little sisters were girls that were kidnapped and abducted from the surface world. Although one flaw I do see being a possibility is that the Soviet Union might be compelled to go to war with Rapture especially when you see all the technological advances that are made down there. But a civil war might be less lightly in some capacity because then Frank Fontaine couldn’t have a monopoly on rallying the disenfranchised of the city. Because then everyone has more options as a result
Also Diane McClintock was mad about Andrew Ryan's treatment of her but she was also appalled at his treatment of raptures citizens and his true colors that came out in apollo square
9:44 "He missed out on the atom marked and laminated....." *Market *Lamented Cohen was the one who laminated it...... Regarldess, to shore up confusion, he was sad that he missed out on getting into the Plasmid game, and let Fontaine effectively monopolize the ability to resequence genetic codes. By the time Ryan, or anyone, wanted to compete with Fontaine (Regrow hair and teeth, mend bones) they had to do so with the "Great Value" off brand to try and compete, or offer substandard plasmids (Make your hair and teeth stronger, grow a back-up pinky just in case!)
Listening to this as opposed to music as I work haha I really do hope they make a Rapture Civil War game, playing a civilian trying to get his wife and daughter out and dealing with Fontaine turning his daughter to a lil sister. They could even let us play as some surface guy looking for his kid down there

I remember crying by the end of the game when I finally got to kill Frank Fontaine after rescuing all the little sisters. All of those poor little girls were tools of these sick people's games for scientific experimentation and human power: all for the production of a gene-altering product that in turn made people go insane and play into the destruction of their rationality. It makes me wonder what if these slugs were never discovered? Would have Rapture gone from Utopia to Dystopia if Adam were never discovered? Sure, being isolated at the bottom of the sea, void of any sunlight, was surely going to fuck up the citizens' circadian rhythms. However, it makes me wonder if these people would have acknowledged living at the bottom of the ocean was good for themselves in the long-run to produce a different result of Rapture's safekeeping. I think the power of Adam exploits Andrew Ryan's ultimate flaw in avoiding the human parasites and their success of an insatiable desire for power. I think Rapture was never truly meant to see ceaseless success in the first place given all of the environmental issues that it can cause on anyone's psychosomatic, and physical, state.
Genotypes are the genetic level of triats. Phenotypes are the corresponding physical traits they result in. Nucleotide sequences are the patterns found within DNA. Basically what this is saying between both is that Fontain was litterally tradmarking specific genetic codes that resulted from plasmid mutations. If anyone produced a product that resulted in someone having these genetic codes within them that wasn't Fontain, they would be infringing on his copyright. It's insane to think about. A lab somehow creates a genetic recoding that allows a person to have a particular shade of orange eyes. Instead of patenting the procedure or products used, they litterally copywrite the resulting code so no one unauthorized can have those genetics in them. That way no one can create an alternate procedure or product to get the same results. This kind of harks on old video game hardware lawsuits where chips were reverse engineered by other companies but allowed as they were components of a device that the other company legally bought possession of and the overall system was what was copywrit. Fontain was a scummy ass gifted but not clueless when it came to business savy or how to properly address it when it came to science. I can't imagine comeone comming up with copywrtiting genetic sequencing. It would have saved Ingen a lot of headache in Jurrasic Park but variants coudm still be easily created and I doubt it would fly as a practical act with real world government. The fact it was just allowed like that was very much a result of rapture full free market philosophy being taken full advantage of by fontian. It makes you question..if he could do this for parts of genetic code on artificial sequences, could he have registered naturally occuring traits like blue eyes or brown hair? They were creating plasmids that altered those for esthetic/cosmetic reasons. It would be like putting a copywrite on the word "the" and expecting a royalty whenever someone used it.
Just curious who did actually survive rapture? Who actually lived to keep the secret of the underwater city? I know Jack, Tenenbuarm, Eleanor, Sofia (depending on who you ask), the little sisters both generations I don’t know if it’s been said in any other videos!
Bioshockhub, do you have the remastered version of Bioshock for Xbox and PlayStation? Or do you only just have it for PlayStation? Because I want to know how you delete saves off of Bioshock 1
It's funny that Ryan created a lawless haven, practically in the same bitter hope of old gentlemen (mindsets like doctors, up until the late 1800's, thinking they didn't need to wash their hands, because somehow a part of being a gentleman meant you should never have to wash your hands), thinking that the "great chain of economy" would take care of everyone, and keep the balance. There wouldn't need to be crime, as everyone should be happy. That, to his workers, the sweat of their brow would be enough, while Ryan acts like the great parasite he preaches against, taking/eating everything from on high while looking the other way (when not actively encouraging) everything he built Rapture to escape: • "Don't go to the surface, where they'll take your son and throw him into war," stay down here and let Rapture take your daughter, so that she can be a part of the war machine! • "You toil just for someone else to claim your hard work," so escape to Rapture, where *THERE IS NO ESCAPE!* • "The artist won't be censored," unless their freedom of expression is calling out the hypocrisies of the affluent in this underwater incarceration. In every way Ryan wanted to escape society, hating parts of it and thinking he knew better, he became the exact same monster and worse (you can hide from a government, escape a nation, but Ryan has _everyone_ under glass and at his mercy)
Interesting thing is that, Plasmids or not, the civil war was going to happen, regardless. ADAM only acted like gasoline to the friction between the classes, igniting the powder keg of Rapture that much sooner
I bet thay could make a game call BioShock civil war put you in the shoes of a splicer witch you should be able to pick if you want to work for Andrew or work for atlus if any body thinks that would be a good game give a like

Good video. But If you’re still confused about the “genotypes and nucleotides sequences”
It basically just means Fontaine purchased all the rights to research concerning genetic modification, DNA, and the human genome.
(ADAM rewrites human DNA to give you powers, so Fontaine owning all this research means he can make better Plasmids and sell them for profit.)
This is the market Ryan missed out on.
Phantom Eye You are speaking the language of the gods
Prophecy was told. Elizabeth seen everything to the future. She leaves Jack's hands to take care of them.
I really think Bioshock games have one of the best stories in the history of video games. So many stuff going on with so many interesting characters.

Just got into rapture (ps+ free game of February) and I honestly could tell you put a lot of effort into this video!! This is probably a bit old, but keep up the good work
Thank you very much Judah and I hope you enjoy the games btw, they're all incredible.
2020 and I'm still not over this game
I never will be. Best series in existence…
I remember the first time going through rapture in burial at sea ep 1 and seeing rapture pre civil war was so amazing
Agreed, I wish we got more of it.
I guess "exotic dancer" is one way to put it.
Similar to Ricardo Milos
Erick great video and I hope your surgery worked
I hope so too!
So I Just made a theory about what happened, hear me out on this! I know my theory isn't the cause, I just like it to make fan theories, anyway my fan theory follows
Rapture, a city underwater, I mean.... How flippin' dope is that? Wouldn't you like t to live there? Only, there are things people might haven't thought about, Rapture looks nice and comfy yes but have you ever thought about the following things?
Never see daylight, never feel a raindrop, never feel the warmth of the sun and never feel a single breeze, never be able to watch the stars at night
That is kinda depressing you know? Since I thought about that, I wouldn't like it at all to live in Rapture, I prefer living in Columbia then, I mean, yes you can fall off to your death, but at least you feel the warmth of the sun and feel the breeze of the wind.
But anyway, The citizens of Rapture could not feel the warmth of the sun, or the breeze of the wind, or rain, and didn't see daylight, and it could be possible that that was he thing that drove them all mad, they lost themselves because of lack of daylight and the sun.
It's a miracle they still alive actually😅
Yayyyy it’s good to hear you feeling ok I’m glad you are doing better your my favorite TH-camr I look forward to your videos
Still not 100% yet, but hanging in there.

Keep these video up! Whenever a new bioshock game is announced and released it will bring a lot of attention to your channel and you will grow a lot!
I really hope so my friend. Thanks for taking the time to check out the video, I hope you enjoyed it.
i’m so hyperfixated on bioshock right now that i’m watching videos that tell me about the lore i already know
Did you just get into the series?
@@TheBioshockHub i played the first game in 2021 and then played all three from last december-january and i’ve been really into it since then
I have a question, if Subject Delta was the first successfully pair bonded big daddy, then why did a pair bonded big daddy kill Dr. suchong while he was still figuring out how to bond big daddys to little sisters?
I'd say because the time lines are all screwed up due to Infinite. Yes, In Bioshock 1, Suchong was killed by a Big Daddy, due to him hitting a little sister, causing a pair bond. Yet, in Burial at Sea Ep. 2, the same Big Daddy that Elizabeth helped was the same one that killed Suchong.
At the same time in Bioshock 2, Gil Alexander was able to figure out how to pair and he found the pheromone to do so.
So there's a lot going on with it. It's a mind- f*ck.
Nice video Erik keep up the good work
Thanks, hope you enjoy it
Oh I do
New bioshock could be an island that is shielded by a vortex or field. The island is mountainous and junglesque
23:42 "During the war- oh hey my chime card came!" 😂 I swear that ad placement was perfect.
What a video 😍
Excellent job! History of Rapture is the best 💜
Hope you enjoyed!
Nice video Erik hope the surgery worked and have a great rest of your day or night
I hope so too.
When I first played this game it made me really curious about the history of rapture
There's so much backstory that it's actually insane.
Its an amazing place rapture i used to live there in my first life its still down there its just been covered up by the powers that be 😌👍
Glad to see more Bioshock content. Subscribed for the quality of lore. Excited to hear news from 2K about the new Bioshock this summer.
I still dream of the Bioshock that will portray Rapture's Civil War as its core plot
This would be absolutely perfect. A current gen ACTUAL BioShock game (looking at you infinite)
okay but what would you do if you just woke up in an apartment in rapture one day
So deserve so many more subs! Best bioshock channel!
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
The ad that ran during your vid was for "the end is near!!" B.s.. Which I thought was hilarious with the topic of the video.
Rise, Rapture Riiiise
We turn our hopes up to the skiiiies
Riiiiise, Rapture Rise…
_We’ll go down with our sinking paradiiiise…_
Great video well done :) does anyone wonder how common law is reflected in rapture post civil war? We see that the law is often hyper individualized. Would love to see a court of rapture and an obscure objectivist legal system
Oh damn-- this is DOPE!!! Hope your recovery goes well!
Amazing video my friend very detail in the events unfolding keep up the great work.
A Pleasure Seeing You Content Grow Better and Better
i mourn the days before #TheBioshockHub
Don't We All !
I hope you get better soon the BioShock Hub. 😇
That pretty much sums it up.
Great video, mate!
War always in two thing... Death or victory and this war end in death
In ended with a lot of death.
Great video my friend very detailed and justifies the great backstory Bioshock has keep it up my friend. :)
Andrew Ryan would’ve been a great leader if he wasn’t pushed by Fontaine.
Outstanding job. Thank you for the observations and the connections from this great work to some of history's (and today's) greatest dangers
Thank you for putting so much time and thought into these videos. I’ve been enjoying them a lot
I like how you asked would we kindly in the beginning lmao
I'm More interested in the storyline overall than the actual game...💯
wow. sick work mate!
Great video man also i laughed so hard when you killed a splicer with his hat
Also Diane McClintock was mad about Andrew Ryan's treatment of her but she was also appalled at his treatment of raptures citizens and his true colors that came out in apollo square
Wow. These videos are awesome. Yes, yes....I kindly subscribed too :D

"He missed out on the atom marked and laminated....."
*Market
*Lamented
Cohen was the one who laminated it......
They could even let us play as some surface guy looking for his kid down there
This is a nice listen when I was at work
A 36 Minute Video? Ahh shit. Ima go get a snacc for this.
Lol, enjoy it!
if you play bioshock 2 multiplayer we can see that the exploation was made in the kitchen aswell if kashmir restaurant if im clear and if the restaurant isnt bigger
please do more than one take, i know editing would be longer with this but viewing would be much nicer
Sure thing!
Can’t wait for you to get to 10k subs
Thank you! That's the goal.
I did know most of the stuff but I learned a little bit more
Hope your back is ok
It kind of it. Just really sore and in a bit of pain.

Did you do a video on the Whales brothers? Just asking.
I’ve never been so early to a video!
Welcome!
Great video and I understand more now
Wait so does that mean that bio shock infinite happened before the 1st bio shock? With Elizabeth knowing she would have to sacrifice herself for Jack later on to kill atlas/frank
So if I’m not wrong the timeline of the bio shock games would be.
1. Infinite
2. Bio shock
3 Bio shock 2
Hopefully in the 4th bio shock game coming soon they talk more about Jack because I feel like we don’t know him as well. Just that Ryan was his farther and was the ruler of rapture. But yeah let me know if I missed anything did hard bio shock fans.
I’m still wondering if you can find comstocks body and Elizabeth’s in bioshock 1
That would be one hell of an easter egg / detail.
TheBioshockHub indeed it is. it’s just that no one ever did a video on it and I’m just a little curious if we can find some evidence of their existence in bioshock 1
@@eman_playz2229 there is not bioshock infinate was forced into the story because in bio 1and2 there is no evidence but in the remaster there is even though it was forced and infinate ruined the seris
I really enjoyed this video
I've always loved the games and this was awesome to watch
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Ayyye welcome back, sorry for late reply!
It would be like putting a copywrite on the word "the" and expecting a royalty whenever someone used it.
enteresting way how the rapture civil war started well still i enjoyed the video
"how one mans power for hunger" 36:15 but also good vid
Just curious who did actually survive rapture? Who actually lived to keep the secret of the underwater city? I know Jack, Tenenbuarm, Eleanor, Sofia (depending on who you ask), the little sisters both generations I don’t know if it’s been said in any other videos!
There's 2 people from Minerva's Den, which I don't want to ruin that for you.
Duddde this is awesome what a great video
Glad you enjoyed.
It was New Year 1959, not 1958
26:22 I laughed harder at that then I probably should have...

Just read the rapture book, its great highly recommend it
Bioshockhub, do you have the remastered version of Bioshock for Xbox and PlayStation? Or do you only just have it for PlayStation? Because I want to know how you delete saves off of Bioshock 1
I have the Collection for my PS4.
TheBioshockHub Oh alright
Dbz 2003 little late but you can’t do it from the main menu. You have to be in game to clear saves
Sometimes I wonder, how much longer would Rapture last after Bioshock 2?
You would be distraught if u did a harvest and slaughter run
It's funny that Ryan created a lawless haven, practically in the same bitter hope of old gentlemen (mindsets like doctors, up until the late 1800's, thinking they didn't need to wash their hands, because somehow a part of being a gentleman meant you should never have to wash your hands), thinking that the "great chain of economy" would take care of everyone, and keep the balance. There wouldn't need to be crime, as everyone should be happy.
That, to his workers, the sweat of their brow would be enough, while Ryan acts like the great parasite he preaches against, taking/eating everything from on high while looking the other way (when not actively encouraging) everything he built Rapture to escape:
• "Don't go to the surface, where they'll take your son and throw him into war," stay down here and let Rapture take your daughter, so that she can be a part of the war machine!
• "You toil just for someone else to claim your hard work," so escape to Rapture, where *THERE IS NO ESCAPE!*
• "The artist won't be censored," unless their freedom of expression is calling out the hypocrisies of the affluent in this underwater incarceration.
He didn't want to escape it, he wanted to franchise his own superior version of it where the established versions couldn't take it from him!
Would I kindly?
Well now I fkn have to, dont I!
I swear if Netflix screws up the story and atmosphere for the live action Bioshock movie I'm gonna be very disappointed
I bet thay could make a game call BioShock civil war put you in the shoes of a splicer witch you should be able to pick if you want to work for Andrew or work for atlus if any body thinks that would be a good game give a like
