The thing about synthetic gatherers, though, is that they could have been made fully capable of defending themselves; even while appearing like the original little sisters. Of course; this wouldn't be an avenue pursued by the development team, since they wanted the act of harvesting a gatherer to have a moral impact in the game.
Good summary video on the Little Sisters, I really enjoyed it. I found it funny that you recommended that folks do a "no harvest" playthrough only after they get some experience with the game. My first playthrough was "no harvest" and yes, it was kinda tough. I thought you'd use more footage from BS2 for this video. For example, in the first half of the video you talk about how the Little Sisters view the world. That part from the end of BS2 where you're playing as a Little Sister could have been shown to visually enhance what you were describing. That's just one of a few times I feel there were missed opportunities to show game footage about the information you were discussing. Keep up the good work!
The developers knew what they were doing by making you decide the fate of innocent girls. But like I said, they weren't little girls in the beginning; they were just slugs, and then they decided to put those slugs into something that made it emotionally harder to gather them.
Could you do a what-if video where you explain what life in rapture would be like without Little Sisters? Like what if they were never made or after everyone went crazy for ADAM? Just like what would happen.

I watched another series on youtube that was the most extensive thing I've watched with hour long episodes and it explained basically, (and forgive me i forget alot of names) after a man with paralysed arms/hands due to a failed experiment was bitten by a slug and his hands healed instantly and completely, they found out what slugs contained and they started doing tests to try and amplify the adam produced by the slugs. They did alot of testing, I beleive on adult male exiles first, and it produced more but it wasn't enough and soon after the host wouldnt survive, then testing on male children oknce again getting more but was not a viable option. before realising that the slugs simply wouldn't bond with the previous hosts body they tested on female children and realised that for an unknown reason, the slugs would only bond in a simbiotic way (like a parasite) with young girls. Hope this made sense.
I played finished Bioshock for the first time a few months ago and am currently on Bioshock 2. I never harvested because it seemed so wrong. My brother has no problem harvesting when convenient but I never will.
The first time that I played that game I used only the telekinesis plasmid, the electric shock plasmid, that allows you to hack devices or attack some one that is touching water, that in rapture is basically everyone, and the single gun, so I didn't really need so many plasmids or adam. That telekinesis plasmid maybe overpowered, for the punch that it packs, it uses very little eve.

They're these broken girls driven mad by their ADAM dependency, worse so than any common splicer, reduced to a screaming anxiety-riddled shell with no thoughts other than the continuing flow of ADAM throughout Rapture to please both Sophia and their own thirst. I feel like their main battle song really showcases the horror of their psychological state, just rabid and bounding at you in this graceful tsunami of utter chaos, relentless and literally hungry for your blood. They're highly emotional and more or less seem like high-functioning psychotics/schizophrenics, who were taken advantage of by Sophia Lamb to utilize their dependency on ADAM by becoming their new supplier. She gives them a new round of psychological conditioning and tactical training, making their unbridled, awkward rage a bit more tame and graceful. She gives them a new sense of purpose and sends them to the surface to abduct and make more girls like them, and they begin to base their psychology around this new system of the Rapture Family, where they are the Gatekeepers and watchful eye sniffing out all that stolen ADAM. But under all the armor and laughing and screaming is a scared and angry addict with a needle, a malnourished teenage girl bound in belts and metal and psychological scars, virtually incapable of understanding the full extent of her actions as Tannenbaum said -- "...she knows not what she does." There is a real genius and mystery to their design that is constantly undercut and I'd love to see someone make a proper lore video on them.

I harvested to compare how much I would get compared to rescuing and I harvested until I accidentally rescued a little sister at fort frolic and I found out you get rewards so I rescued the rest of them
In terms of concept design, the Gathers weren't originally supposed to be Little Sisters. They initially were just going to have people gather ADAM from mutated slugs. Apparently at some point, they decided to make gathering ADAM more emotionally difficult. But they needed to make the Gathers seem more sympathetic, which the slugs just weren't. The redesigns ranged from dogs in a wheelchair to shambling small people. But then it hit them; what's more morally testing than deciding the fate of an innocent little girl? This also changed the Big Daddy, who originally was supposed to have two drill hands instead of one (said drills were originally supposed to be flat, too.) but they changed one into a hand so that they could interact with them.
So I have a question. How come the little sisters look different/older in Bioshock 2 multiplayer but the game is set before the event of the first Bioshock. Thanks for the great vids mate

I was wondering where the Little Sisters go when they enter the vents. Were they trained to report to Ryan Industries so they could collect the ADAM from the girls?
Okay so someone had to go and recover the Adam from dead bodies. But why were the little sisters selected for that? Couldn't someone else more capable retrieve the Adam and bring it back to the girls? They could even mount adam collector needles on the big daddies so they could do it safely. I don't really get why they had to have the little girls go out.
Actually prepubescent girls were already used as method of manufacturing ADAM. That seaslug was implanted in their digestive system and it made production much faster. Reasons for Little Sisters existence are complicated.
