When working on vehicles it can be very tiring especially when you get old. That fact he takes the time to show the color wires and how to do these types of jobs I really appreciate.
Great video as usual! You could add a ground switch to the tach terminal on the coil to kill the spark too. Personally, I'd do the armored cover to the column no matter what else you do so the dirtbags don't get the chance to break the column. My 87 442 almost got stolen once and it was a pain having to pull the column apart to replace the broken pieces, get them painted to match, and all that. Far better to not give them the chance to break the column in the first place in my opinion.
Thanks Brain I appreciate it. I have a 1984 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham it's a 4 door with 33,000 original miles on it my grandfather gave it to I'll definitely put a kill switch on it thanks to you. Love your video's keep them coming!!!
Cruise control set switch is on or off, basically monetary. If it goes to ground, use it to turn on a relay, completing the crank circuit or HEI power circuit. If using two relays, shuts of both. Left hand index finger on the “Set” cruise switch, while using the right hand to turn the key and start. ASE Master Tech since 1978 - Retired
Im gonna have to do this as soon as i get back up to nor cal, that way my brother can help me, he is the master of electrical when it comes to classics. Thanks for letting me know about this vid! very usefull!
Sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the account password. I love any tips you can give me
@Kase Castiel Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I've used a window contact & magnet from a home alarm system for a kill switch. Wire the contact, mount it behind the dash and place the magnet over the contact to close the circuit. I found using a earth magnet works better due to a thick metal dash.
I remember watching that video, I just couldn't remember if it was yours or someone else's. Guess I got a little lazy and didn't search your channel. Thanks again. You have a long-time subscriber in me... just keep the vids coming, they're very informative and helpful.
There are screws behind caps at the pull strap, screws that hold the arm rest on and once the arm rest is removed there are two large screws behind that. You then pull the lower panel off, its held on with plastic push clips and then remove the upper. The upper is also hooked it at the top of the door. Hope this helps.
Great video. I'll definitely be installing one of these in my A-Body. I just bought a 1980 Buick Regal and the passenger side window is stuck halfway down. It rolls down about a quarter of the way down, but won't go all the way down or all the way up. How do I PROPERLY remove the door panel? I just thought I'd ask, I don't want to break the panel and have shit hanging.
i had the same problem on my cutlass...i bought a new motor, new window switch and greased up the window tracks very well and problem was solved!! hope it helps!
I usually never post but Wow! This was exactly what I was looking for!! I'm on the market for an 87/88 Monte SS. I know they go like hot cakes. The amp jack was awesome. I think I'll use that but I'm going to hide the jack somewhere. The magnet idea is good too. I might invest in a detachable steering wheel while I'm at it. Lol. Thanks!!! Great vid!
Classic G-Body Garage Is there a way to have the Amp Jack put into the connector and have only the electronics come on and also install a "Push to Start" button? Has it been done? Would it work?
Nice video, I found it on the G body forums. Definitely going to do this, I'm so paranoid about leaving my car out of sight in public. Thanks for posting this one.
Great video! I’m looking to install one on my 64’ Impala’s ignition switch. It being an older model, would I have to do anything different? Unfortunately, I cannot find a steering column lock for anything under the 1970’s.
Thank you..Just ran all the wiring on my 69 Elco restoration. Know exactly which wires to splice. Going with the purple wire, with a hidden kill switch. Just a foot note...went ahead and switched out the original 69 highlight switch and the column directional switch. Had lots of issues with connections. Replace them...they were corroded and worn out... not that expensive and you will have peace of mind ...down the road. Also rebuilt the the fuse box with new fuse connectors...got connectors from NPD.
Make sure the wire harness is attached to the dash before you put it back in and leave the gauge cluster and glove box out of it. Also it is easiest if you have the steering column out.
Somebody pried the door lock on my old '93 Caprice wagon destroyed the column and still couldnt steal it......I was glad they didnt break the window. The sad part is that column was already so worn out that the ignition cylinder didnt lock most of the time even with the key removed. Long story short I was able to repair the door skin, reinstall the lock and grab a new column out of a Buick
Man this mazaing idea I am from Egypt and i like your videos so much I wonder how did you do this brilliant idea for male female switch , if you can explain i will be grafteul for you
Thanks! I got it off. Would you happen to know anything about my problem? The widow motor seems to work fine. The window has about four to five inches of normal functionality, but when I reach certain points in the up and down position the window halts and begins to make a loud grinding noise. There is no corrosion, the car is rust-free for the most part. Again, the motor does seem to work. Any suggestions?
If you have replaced the mechanical fuel pump with an electric unit you can also wire a kill switch to this type of pump. What I would like to know is, can the steering column be disassembled to the point where one could machine a sleeve out of steel pipe and fit it in place of the "pot metal" shroud that shields this linkage? I once owned a 1978 Cutlass Slant Back that was originally fitted with an early GM Diesel engine which blew out. I replaced it with a Rocket 350 out of a '73 olds. Everything bolted up just fine and I kept the diesel starter which made winter starting a breeze. Only problem was that the vehicle was marked Diesel Only at the filler cap and I erased the label. I always pumped regular leaded fuel in it but was always hassled by the attendants saying it was illegal to put leaded fuel in a '78. I explained that it was equipped with a '73 engine which took leaded fuel only and it had no cat underneath.
Do you have to modify the input jack to complete the circuit (eg. soder the ground tip to the live tip on the input jack itself)? Just curious because if I remember correctly the sleeve is the ground for the input jack and the tip is the live
haha awesome...yea, great channel and vids. Enjoyed the Duplicolor vids too. Thanks for the info, you helped on slot of paint jobs. Anywho...I suscribed ;)
Just follow my video. The plug just solders in line of the purple wire. Very easy. Make sure you use a mono plug NOT a stereo plug. You can buy them at Radio Shack.
whats up my friend ? I have a quick question for you someone tried to steal my 87 monte carlo ss last week broke the steering colum just like you pointed out in this video But I have a Kill switch so they did not get it. where can I get a new steering colum lower shift colum bowl with tilt The Fake Metal Part You Pointed Out! HELP Thanks!!
Whenever you add additional switch contacts in series in a circuit, you increase the chances of failure, so choose the best quality devices that are sealed against oil and dust. Automobiles are dirty environments for electrical equipment, and they required _better_ components than aircraft. The audio jack and plug look inexpensive and appealing, but for peace of mind on the road, I'd steer clear of that solution. Years ago my parents had a Ford E-series van that developed an intermittent problem of the starter not cranking, leaving them stranded in the most god-awful places, once requiring the van to be towed 40 miles across the desert. Dad replaced starter motors and even installed a pushbutton switch to override the ignition switch and power the starter solenoid directly. The latter modification proved to be bad, when a mechanic inadvertently pushed the button and caused the vehicle to move, crumpling the driver-side door against a hoist stanchion while it was in the shop. In the end, after extensive circuit tracing with a multimeter, I found the problem to be a faulty ignition interlock switch on the automatic transmission, which only allows the starter motor to run when the shift lever is in the "P" or "N" positions. Once that $10 switch was replaced, the mysterious problem was cured. This problem was missed by a series of mechanics, because they were looking for a mechanical problem, not an electrical problem, and it would be a horrid problem to diagnose out on the road, away from shop facilities and lacking electrical schematic diagrams.
All good advice. Yes you MUST use a switch that can handle the current of the starter so choosing the correct switch is important. If you use the proper high quality switch it won't cause any issues. Also wiring it up properly is just as important and no you shouldn't override anything. The audio jack plug has been in my car for 15 years and has never caused any issues. There are different grade audio jacks so hence using the proper solution won't give you issues down the road.

head phone jack... I like that
Boom what a video. Perfect description and step by step.
thank you so much. i had some son of a bitch steal my wifes 85 ss monte carlo. i really wish they had woken me up, they would have ate some lead!
I feel your pain, I had my '70 GTO Judge stolen in 1981 and haven't seen it since.
Great video. I'll definitely be installing one of these in my A-Body.

I can't say if the ignition wire you need to cut is purple but yes it will work if you locate the correct wire.
Great video! Do you happen to have a video or any info on relocation the ignition switch to the dash. What would I need to do to have the linkage work

I am sure anything is possible but that is beyond my experience. There are Gbody pages on facebook or go to gbodyforum
I really like the idea of the guitar jack!
thank you for this video because my 85 impala was stolen from me!!! it was helpful and informative
Nice video, I found it on the G body forums. Definitely going to do this, I'm so paranoid about leaving my car out of sight in public. Thanks for posting this one.
trappersgetmorebeav Cool glad you found my channel. Please subscribe for more great gbody videos.
If your running a stock HEI then run the R46SZ gapped at 0.060.
Hey, thanks for the info, buddy!! 😁👍🏻👍🏻

I wish I would have known this information before I had my first ss monte carlo stolen thank u for the info so I can keep my new ss

Good tips on the kill switch

Save those G-Bodys!
Im going to do this as soon as i get my grandmas 1986 cutlass supreme and nice Top Gear shirt man

+Thevinylking69 Glad you still have the car. Put a kill switch and column lock on it.
There are tabs where you solder wires onto the mono plug. It is easy.
Make sure you have the correct flasher module. They have different ratings and will not work correctly if wrong.
Man this mazaing idea
I am from Egypt and i like your videos so much
I wonder how did you do this brilliant idea for male female switch , if you can explain i will be grafteul for you
Thank you so much 😀

You will have to use a multi-meter to find out which wire is getting 12 volts when the key is turned.
Hey can you make a video on how to change the side mirrors?
yeah thats a good suggestion. I have a car i plan to swap mirrors on as well.
The wheel came with the car and it is probably a grant. I have seen others like it. I am going to put it in my 84 Silverado.
Great tips. They will go to good use.
Will this work on a 1982 Camaro? My door lock cylinders need to be replaced and I want to add extra safety
yes
Very cool! Glad I could help you out! Thanks for subscribing as well.
If you have replaced the mechanical fuel pump with an electric unit you can also wire a kill switch to this type of pump.

Does a steering column lock do the job enough that you won't need a kill switch?
i have both
My dad use to remove the rotor inside the distributor.!!!!
Thats another way to prevent it from starting but not ideal every time you park it.
Unscrew the lower vent bezel under the steering column and you will be able to get to the wires.
Thanks for the vid, I will def need this info when I finally pick up a Cutlass
Just what I was looking for. Great tips!
Very helpful information. Like your ride in the background...sweeeet.
Its a little quiet in sections but just turn the volume up a little.
question, so the two wires on the kill switch are to hooked up to the two ends of the starter wire that you cut?
Gapped at 60 is a good setting. 65 will work too.
can u show me how to make the kill switch of a plug guitar or headphones?
Thanks for watching. I am actually keep the wheel for my 84 Silverado.
Can what be welded?
so u just cut the ends of the monno plug n connect 2 the purple cable? or u need 2 do some adjustment?
Bought to add two on my box caprice
Hi I wanted to ask what gauge wire should I use for the guitar jack kill switch?
Same gauge as the purple wire. I don't recall off hand but match it up.
Like the power window idea
Do you have to modify the input jack to complete the circuit (eg. soder the ground tip to the live tip on the input jack itself)? Just curious because if I remember correctly the sleeve is the ground for the input jack and the tip is the live
Thanks. very informative. Now I know how they stole my '87 Cutlass.
and how your next won't be stolen
Great knowledge shared here
Thanks for watching
Great video! Found what I was looking for, defenetly going to instal one of these on my ws6
Its the flasher for the turn signal.
audiojack! dammit thats brilliant, why didn't i think of that?
Thanks for the suggestion. I see your Cutlass, very nice project.
dope video man i'm definately hookin up my ride
Adjust the cable where it clips on to the steering column bowl.
LOK ITT brand column lock. You can find information on Google.
Very relavent to us city dwellers
Do you have to drop the steering column to get to the purple wire
haha awesome...yea, great channel and vids. Enjoyed the Duplicolor vids too. Thanks for the info, you helped on slot of paint jobs. Anywho...I suscribed ;)
You are the man!
Good morning sir, where can I find the one switch with the guitar plug?
If i didnt want to cut it so close to the colum where theyd see could i make the cut down by the starter?
Yeah as long as its in line you can cut anywhere
thanks a lot bud as i am working on new s10 project
Nice. Love S10s.
I protected my g body thank you again
Thank you for the info on the switch
Thanks for this video! I have a '73 Centurion, this helps a lot! :)
Just follow my video. The plug just solders in line of the purple wire. Very easy. Make sure you use a mono plug NOT a stereo plug. You can buy them at Radio Shack.
Where do you buy a Collin harness lock?
Great video but you need a wireless microphone for when you are not next to the camera.
thanks for the feedback
whats up my friend ? I will eventually but it is still sitting where it has been for the last 5 years.

Classic G-Body Garage what audio jack did you use. i jave have a 87 suburban id like to do that
Classic G-Body Garage hey instead of a audio jack can I use a usb jack?
some good thoughts there... good video
Hi classic g-body garage I have a question to ask do you have a lighted vanity mirror wiring harness I need two of them.
fuel shut off valves also work nice. good video though
Could I just wire directly to the cigarette lighter? Push in to close circuit. Turn key. Starts up? No?
As long as the cig lighter can handle the amps. I have heard that before.
@@ClassicGBodyGarage Perfect! Thanks!
Love Moby!
Great video!
Do you have to take the whole steering column out?
no, i used a column in this video so it would be easy to see
Thank you I installed it the other day, I can now park in public worry free thanks to you
How do u install a kick down cable on a 86 cutlass supreme
Thanks that will help me a lot ..
what gauge of wire should you use to connect the kill switch to?
The same strand/gauge as the purple wire
Great video
thanks for the tips bro
Thanks man!
That kill switch is boss idea thx
On my 1985 Cutlass Supreme 2 door with 305 chevy engine it came with a 200 c trubo transmission 7.5 rear end what gear ratio and is it limited slip or what
HI I got a question is not better to wire up a relay with a toggle switch to be more safety ?????
You can wire how you would like. A relay would work fine if you don't have the correct gauge wire.
