Did the EPA ever think that maybe they’re the problem?
Don't tell them that. If it gets out, they'll create another government agency to monitor the EPA monitoring us.
Biden's DOJ plus the EPA
SHUT IT DOWN!!
That's for sure. FJB
Hell yeah they should buy these trucks back. False advertisement. Simple.
My 14 is deleted and modified pretty heavily. Makes about 700 hp. If they think they’re taking my stuff and putting some fruit loop tune on the thing they’re f**king high.
What if they block you from registering your vehicle?
So glad I stayed away from all diesel’s and bought a 2024 High Country 6.6 gasser and 10 speed tranny. It will meet mine, and 90% of the towing public’s needs. The government has ruined diesel ownership for the average American.
Cummins shouldn’t have conceded this case so easily.
Makes you wonder why they did!
If they took it to court considering this is against the D.O.J. and the E.P.A. knowing them they would have dragged them through the mud and sludge for as long as they can
@@BigBadJohnDiesel because the government has unlimited resources.
As I understand it, the EPA knew about this issue years ago! Why would they wait so long? Maybe so there would be a few hundred thousand more trucks effected so they can make the fine much bigger, and the pain for Cummins/Ram much worse!
@@jeffthornock8671 the same I'm saying if they knew which I am wondering how why did they wait for so long to finally say something unless their is an ulterior motive not trynna make a conspiracy but why wait unless their is something in store
Fun fact! The recall was announced before the actual issue was! I received an email from Carfax regarding the recall. I had the recall performed on 12/12. I drove it from Northern Utah to Boise Idaho. I had the cruise set at 85, pretty much the entire way. I didn't see any difference in fuel economy. I also didn't notice any difference in power. However, I am smelling DEF a lot more now, which leads me to believe, the system will be using more DEF going forward.
what you really dont know yet is how frequent a 5 thousand dollar plus emission repair will be required, and that is fundamentally the problem now.
Yeah this is getting pretty close to the last straw for me. Thankfully haven’t touched my 2019 yet so it’ll take the recall just fine. But I’m looking for a first gen to restore so I can pollute 1000x the NOX and particulates (or whatever their crazy numbers are) legally until they take diesel away. Plus better mileage.
Sold my 2017 H.O. Cummins last spring. Bought a 2006 H.O. Cummins. No DEF. Only an EGR valve. Which I've already deleted that. It's getting 21mpg. It's a ton with single rear wheel. It only had 60,000 miles.
I have 21 Cummins for my business and we had the recall done and according to the guy that drives it the most he says the gas mileage is down and so is power. But that's just our experience. Good video
I dont want an EV! Damn things are catching fires to folks homes.
One guys ev blew up in his garage
Good lord. Gas and diesel powered cars have been catching fire from the start! C’mon Jack!
@@stansbruv3169 Well, sounds like you better ride a horse skippy. They don't catch fire.
@@mdutchy2582 not as much as electrics man I nearly about a i.c.e fire compared to electric those make headlines when they smolder
@@stansbruv3169 well, I’m a firefighter. We can put ICE vehicle fires out, we really can’t put EV fires out. We are now just letting them burn. All the water we need to use to cool the batteries is toxic runoff and has to be cleaned up. We also don’t have the funds to equip our rigs with some of the special equipment they have come out with for these fires, so, we just let the burn and secure the area.
I’m not worried about the recall on my 17 because I fixed my emissions years ago
Were i live we do not emissions check or require it so i plan on not doing the recal. EPA Employment Prevention Agency. People just remember trees and plants love carbon im just doing my best to help them grow.
Unfortunatly, they are mandated to have xx% of the trucks recalled by a certain date and the rest within a set time afterwards or they get more fines. They will do everything they can to get all the recalls done whether they are in emissions states or not.
Your comment towards the end hit the nail on the head. Government push these complicated diesel emissions on the public that effects reliability and longevity. Increases costs and just adds more components to upkeep and eventually replace. All while exempting their vehicles from it. That speaks volumes. I'm guessing any EV mandates that make it to fruition, will be the same way.
First, the dealership doesn’t have to open the hood to know your truck has been emissions deleated. They’ll know the minute the plug in to the port since anyone that has deleated the emissions equipment also has to have a programmer to get the truck to ignore all the codes that would otherwise show up. Secondly, I’m pretty sure no dealership in the country is going to agree to overlook a deleated truck, not after watching the EPA ding Cummins for 1.7B! Third, as I understand it, the so-called “defeat device” we keep hearing about is not a physical device, rather a programming in the software that recognizes when emissions testing equipment is connected and adjusts the emissions programming to a tighter standard to pass the testing. With all the horror stories going around about legal action taken against delete shops and software programmers, and now going after individuals, I’m glad I haven’t messed with my 19 Ram. The gestapo is coming for all of us!
If you live in a state with no emissions checks, don't take it in.
My buddy owns a diesel repair shop. He said what he understands from the recall is this isn’t a state by state issue, it’s EPA and Federal matter. That means the federal government will tell all DMV’s to withhold your registration if this doesn’t show in the computer system at the dealership as being fixed. Even if it’s a state that doesn’t require smog/emissions checks the dmv will still hold registrations. I do know several people this has already happened to in Georgia and California. This is what I was told, don’t take it as the absolute truth. If you hear of anything different I would love to know. This affects me as well. I was also told they would give one year for this recall just because of the size of it.
@@jeremiahgladen151 That's not how it works.
They also can legally delete emergencies vehicles, ambulance, firetrucks etc
I had my 2014 ram 2500 4 x 4 recall done and did not notice any difference in power or def at this time, but I did notice it seems like it has a little more response now.
I think it’s time we stand up to Uncle Sam and they can quit not letting us be free . I personally have never had a deleted truck but I am sick of the GD epa
Gotta pay for the EV rebates some how.
And this is definitely a way to bust deleted trucks
Guys with deleted trucks aren't going to be taking them for the update
I bought a 2022 Ram 3500 6.7 SO dually with the plan to tow our new RV with it. Our fifth wheel is 18000Lbs GVW. Max tow is 21760Lbs I think off the top of my head. I am hoping there is no detrimental effect on towing If I have a reprogram done. It is my understanding that as of right now maybe the 2020-2023 are in compliance already. Hopefully the mailbox stays empty on the recall. Also ev infrastructure still leaves a lot to be desired. Not to mention the fact that they still do not perform or charge well during cold snaps. Just look at the news this week alone.
Let alone tfl video clearly shows ev can't even go 100 miles on a xharge pulling a 8k trailer. Let alone charge back up in 3 plus hrs.. your weekend getaway will take a week now.. maybe thats what they want
Same exact situation good luck bud
As my 12 valve passes 452000 miles I will just sit back and watch the fiasco unfold.
Soon, most states will not re-register the 'coal burners'.. especially on the coasts. It's coming.
I'm not giving up my 2001dodge diesel 4x4 2500
I have seen a bunch of posts on the forums from guys that have had it done already in California and they all have said they don’t notice any difference and some say they felt the truck was a little more responsive
In sc and i total agree use a lil dpf but runs the same
I suspect that DEF usage will increase when towing. Either way, when I had an ECO diesel, I got 3K and an extended warranty. Should cummins do something similar
I am gladi live in ky we dont plsy the registration crap
Outstanding video! Thank you for your hard work and for your honesty.
I believe should be a financial compensation I have had lots of repairs needed resulting from fuel pump recall replacement metal shavings being pushed through the engine from a fuel pump malfunction result s with damages and repercussions of above mentioned
My 18 3500 Limited megacab dually has 125k miles and swear on my kids, not one warranty issue.. The only thing that's been done other than fluids tires brakes and regular maintenance is a new turbo actuator.. ive had my tuning kit since 2020 bought it at 50k miles expecting sonthing to fail, and it's still on the shelf.. I just can't believe I haven't had to put that shiny 5-inch stainless turbo back exhaust on yet..ive moved it around my garage 3 times.. it will never see a dealership so O really don't care about this recall...its all bullshit..that epa is a joke only north america has to snuff their trucks and have expensive repairs and buy def fluid...the other countries/continants don't so I don't...My 16 bighorn had 30000$ in warranty emissions work by 60k miles and got deleted and tuned at 65k.⁸
JB my man! I got all you hints in the previous video and this about this issue. Let's just I'm picking up what you putting down.
They should have to buy back at the full price that was paid for the truck. I live in a state that doesn't have emissions stuff, but it doesn't matter. If the trucks performance is hindered in any way, they should buy it back.
Epa unfortunately is federal in other words crosses state lines.
@@burnedagain6187 My point was I don't have to have an emission test to get my new tags each year like most states.
I agree, but not a snowballs chance they will
TFL just did a bunch of bench mark testing and now they are having the truck go under the knife. Should be interesting…
They won't find anything because their truck already has the software from the factory and won't receive a recall. All 2020+ model year trucks already have it.
Not to mention since they don’t know if/when they’ll have the recall done, the bench marks won’t be very valid. Retesting in the summer will negate their bench marks performed in the winter.
They just farming views. They got a 5th gen lmao
@@oliverlajoie3418100% lol…. Not to mention, they won’t be completely honest about results…. They’re on board to reveal or not reveal whatever their sponsors tell them to
I own a 2019 Ram 2500 Cummins. I had the VB6 recall done in 2020. I think all trucks made after 2019 already come stock with the emissions standards of the VB6 recall, which is why the 2019 is the only year that needs it. My truck has always driven and towed fine since the recall. It does drink DEF compared to my 2017 Ford Powerstroke work truck, though. My Ford is in regen a lot more though. Also, I try to drive with my exhaust break on at all times. I don’t go into regen nearly as much since I started doing that. I am curious to see if their is another recall in the works. Other folks seem to think that the other recall is just a recalibration so we can’t tamper with the emissions so easily.
I read where the new Powerstrokes are going thru a lot more DEF than older ones.
Back in 2016 I was out west visiting in laws. My FIL was having new gutters put on the house and the contractor had a brand new F350. Really nice rig and I commented on it. He told he bought 2 identical F350s that year. The one in the street I was admiring and another one that got 10 more mpg.😮
Long story short the trucks had to go in for a recall a few months after he bought them. While he was there at t he dealer he mentioned the one trucks outstanding mileage. He told when he went back to the dealer to pick the trucks up they would only give home the one that got the normal mileage not the other one. Told him they had to take the truck back as it was unlawfully sold in the U.S. and original destination was Mexico 😮.
EPA fishing trip
Very informative , enjoyed the video👍
Well I am enjoying my At4 Diesel if they pulled that crap with my gmc they better do a buyback asap because I've been loving the truck for the last 3 years but id if I cant register I'm immediately dumping the truck! This seems to go with the agenda of big daddy gov wanting us all to shift to electric vehicles.
Read the story about the guy in New Jersey that was forced to either restore the emissions equip or have the truck crushed! They boxed him in and refused to allow him to transfer title to a new owner, even outside the state, refused to let him keep it as an off road vehicle etc. he ended up having to get it crushed!
@@jeffthornock8671 well that certainly sucks.
Im waiting for them to add on to this recall. Has this been a factor in NOX sensor and DPF failures? Living in a state that has strict emissions testing i have already spent a damn fortune replacing all that shit just to keep my truck on the road
FJB!!!
Metal shavings pushed through the engine from malfunctioning fuel pump resulted replacement of fiel pump egr cooler dpf filter turbo actuator turbo fuel lines resulting well over 10,000 out of pocket costs including and not limited to extended downtime waiting for parts loss of work/ revenue for my business. Please attorneys if ever was a time community needs help this is it. Class action suite. Federal emissions settlement is your smoking gun evidence
Government and efficiency generally don't mix.
Yeah isn't that a contradiction in terms. And oxymoron if you will
Here in CA we have to smog check diesels every year thanks to the coal rollers that pissed off bicycle riders. I don't care if they have to reprogram my truck if they also send me a check that should be minimum $12,000.
I believe it's every 2 years for the smog check, once the vehicle is over 4 years old. But with the recall it may be sooner
CA is smog every year now been like that for the last 4 years doesn’t matter if your diesel or gas!!!! F CA!!! And F Newsome!!!!
I am ready to stand together and give the epaulets the bird.
I’ll be keeping my truck the way it is. I will refuse any updates to the emissions. By dealer. Little different story up here in the great white North 🇨🇦
Unfortunately to do a reprogram ideally you have to have a charger connected to provide the proper voltage to program the pcm or any other module if the voltage drops while programming it can possibly harm modules. So yes the dealer will have to open the hood, the big tires/monster tailpipe isn't a give away?
There are no devices it is just a software upload. Just wait EPA is coming after all diesels
But even if there was a buy-back option offered to truck owners, dealers would only accept trucks with all of the factory installed emissions devices still intact. Guys that deleted theirs and no longer have the components to reinstall, would be SOL. It even states this on that notice.
We at the dealership have been doing the 67A Emissions recall since November 30th. We have seen no change in performance. We have not heard of one negative report from our customers who have had the recall done. Unlike the Eco Diesel fiasco.
That's fascinating. So what I understand you're saying is that Cummins just wracked up a $2 billion fine for no reason whatsoever, given that all their "cheating" was meaningless and making everything "Biden friendly" was no issue. Pardon me for being just a little skeptical.
Can the dealership install the update to a deleted truck ? Thanks
Biden and Kerry trying to create a new dynasty of money and power! I’m keeping my old diesel so I don’t have to put up with this crap and I won’t pay 1100 a month for a damn truck. I get it when your business has that need but I see people buying just to look like they are killing it. My three trucks are paid for and they are not leaving my garage. Thanks for the info, good job. I believe Ram needs to make it right with their customers
Ram going outta business if they keep asking $110k for 20 year old designed trucks!!!!
It might force Cummins to go to an aluminum head because nox is directly related to cylinder temperature that’s why they’re adding more egr frequency to lower the temperature for less nox
Yup that will fix it😅
Just don't ever take the truck in for the recall. Register it in a different state if your state thinks you can't renew registration without the recall.
More and more im soooo glad i have a pre emissions 2nd gen. If i had a a 2007+ deleting it would of been the first thing done to it! They run so
Much better when they aren’t choked to death and eating its own a$$ with a egr. All the counties in colorado we live in here dont have diesel emissions and never will, theres to much agricultural and ranching and stuff, youd never get any of them folk to go for that.
I have my 24v 5.9l high out out cummins tuned to where it doesn’t cloud the sun when you shift from 5-6th gear on the nv5600 ‘mansmission’ 6 speed. Haha! You cant even het a new truck with a manual transmission, that outta tell you where its heading. The ‘pussification’ of era.
I love my 2nd gen, its mint. Ive been apriached with offerwd
Of $30,000-$$40,000 cash to sell it and i wont. I don’t want a brand new truck. I basically have a brand new truck. I dont want all the fancy bells and whistles and heated steering wheel and crap. I want a truck that drives how i tell it to drive. And i sure as heck wouldnt want all the emissions and eleteonics snd sensors and moudules to have to deal with.
Its not an issue in Ohio, just dont take it in for the reprogram.
I agree with lots u say JB! Love it😂
If your truck is deleted this recall does not apply. You're already defeating emissions.
I’ve had it with Ram the grid heater recall they told me it would be almost a year to get to it then the engine recall I traded for a f-250 with a 7.3 gasoline engine Amen Brother what you said
You mention taking a deleted truck to the dealer for this recall. IF you did that the retune would remove the program that makes the truck run with the deleted parts and it would not run after the reprogram without reinstalling the exhaust parts that were removed..
Speed air pistons new Diesel piston patented design sole purpose is a more efficient burn of diesel fuel in the combustion chamber. Reducing soot by 60% and NOX by 30% look it up its been tested this should be part of the 67A recall period.
what year cummins does this apply too
From what i seen and heard the 2019-2023 trucks are not going to be recalled. I am not sure if this is at present time or at all.
I think 19 and 20 are already recieving recall notices.
Guess i DODGEd that bullet!
😂😂
Yes, i know it's "just Ram" now, chill 😆
Me too. I almost purchased a 2023 Ram 2500 back in October, ended up purchasing a 2024 GMC 2500 HD instead.

@@burnedagain6187these modern diesels are pretty crazy. Test drove one a few months ago and it felt like if I floored it I would launch off the highway lol. Imagine if they weren't half choked out by all the emissions crap.
@@SliderFury1what’s emissions can’t find them on my 2019 F250??
Currently affects 2013-2019 model year only.
I'll quit owning a HD truck before i would own a electric truck. Of course thats what they want but not going to put my money in that crap.
I've bought my last truck and 5th wheel trailer. Once they make it impossible to use them I'll stop with this part.of my life.
Ask the epa about the aarp fire supresent they sent through the incinerators near towns , then they can talk about real pollution
Well, I'm certainly not going to trust any letters from Ford I get requesting I bring my 6.7 HO F250 in for a "windshield wiper adjustment" or some such.
Mine was redone. 2013 2500hd Laramie. Mileage went up and Def usage has not increased. Truck is more responsive
Ya ok
Buy back should be an option. Or a refund of the Cummins upgrade charged for these vehicles.
We have a VW that went through the scandal and did the "fix" because we loved the car (manual TDI). We did notice performance issues, especially in the acceleration after the software update. However, the largest issue I see and have seen with these types of software fixes is that the emissions system was not originally engineered to run this way. With the VW, we quickly had egr and dpf issues, had to replace both, dpf multiple tines. Thankfully this was covered in the extended warranty provided during the "fix". Now we are having to look at other, more permanent options for that vehicle and its emission system.
With the nitrogens being the issue with these engines, it would make sense they do adjustments primarily to the SCR system, resulting in higher DEF consumption. These DPFs already are on the struggle bus, what additional clogging and crystalizing issues are we to expect now? How much more back pressure is created from flow through the scr system? Thank God with my VW we don't tow anything, but for my HD Ram, we might have to find other options if it's just a "software fix".
My tech told me there is a sensor that they also have to install. And that if it is deleted they have to report that. I’m not getting it done. They’re gonna have to buy mine back.
can they do that?
@@silkemueller1391I don't know if they can, however, it is illegal now to delete/tune HDs that came with the DEF BS. So with that being said, people to alert authorities when they do see something illegal. Right? But, only time will tell.
It’s been illegal to defeat emissions for a long time. They’ve just started enforcing it with a vengeance, largely because of the number of people out there rolling coal and rubbing the EPAs nose in it!
I've seen where this recall goes back to 2013 RAM trucks with the Cummins. Rumors say this is an attempt to see how many trucks have been deleted, which is a big no-no per the EPA. Apparently, this recall reset causes the truck to use more DEF, but mileage & performance are marginally affected, if at all. I have yet to take my 2017 RAM 3500 with HO Cummins & Aisin in for recall service, but my tags are due in June, so I will have to do it soon. Still, a $1.7B fine is nothing to sneeze at, so it makes me wonder what is up.
Just re registered my truck with no questions asked in P.a and got inspected. No emissions where I live. Also turned down the recall at dealer. It was 67a recall, flashing the ecm I believe. Told them, don't touch my truck.
I hope the flash doesn't detune the engine...I have the G56 and the engine is already detuned😭
If all it is, is more DEF usage, then I can deal with that
Buy old and fix it up cheaper in the long run.
Thank god I don't live in a place where I have to do this.
Does gm and ford have this update
Is it only on Ram trucks?
Is it known yet if this also effects the High Output motors?
Is it known yet if it effects the 2024 regular or high output motors?
I don't think we know for sure but if it affects the standard I can almost guarantee it affects the higher power and therefore theoretically higher polluting engines as well.
Nothing is known. Not even if 2019+ vehicles are involved. Hundreds of TH-cam videos but no real facts
why only 2019 and newer? they should have to buy back all trucks that are recalled...
I’m sure Ram will run out and buy back 800,000 trucks because Cummins had a trick in the engine management software…. NOT.
Govt so concerned about diesel emissions how about all the Jet aircraft burning thousand of times if not more gallons of polluting fuel, or all the ships in ports around this country sitting there burning diesel or heavy bunker oil? Just the cruise industry pollutes more than all our trucks together. Both of these examples involve operations in high population areas especially airports, I'm surprised California has not banned Jets in their state, Look at LAX, how much pollution falls on it residents in that area alone? far more than 960,000 trucks spread out across America.
Only one company I know has the heavy duty battery technology. That company is Edison Motors.
easy dont bring it in for the recall
People are freaking out over nothing. People need to calm down. They only difference will be in DEF use.
This was discovered way back in 2019. They issued recall VB6 for the 2019 model year trucks and well before the power increase in 2021 which has the updated software from the factory. So, all 2020+ model year trucks already have it!
I didn't realize what the recall was for at the time, so I took it in to do recall. I asked the service manager what the recall was for, and he told me that it was for the emissions. So, I was like "ok, no big deal". Had it done and I'll be honest, I don't see any difference on how it's performing. Feels the same to me. I'm getting the same mileage.
I wish that ev's worked i would buy one but the fact is they will not tow for very long. If you have a 300 mile range it will only tow if your luck for 150 miles so then you have to charge for an hour every 150 or 100 miles. Ive had 2 ev's for work cars and they work great for a work car but for long distance thats another story, they dont work for long distance and then theres the thing where the batteries lose half the range in the winter so ev's are not ready for the task.
I think BANKS POWER had something to do with this cause til this day the ram Derringer has not came out
Worker (TECH) "Friend" said that it's just a PCM update and will not affect the Fuel economy and DEF Economy.
Detuned. Went from 1000 ft lbs to 850. Basically paid extra for nothing
Update:
-California and 13 other states will require the recall to renew registration. Going to be a fire sale if they enforce for deleted trucks.
-No cash settlement for owners.
-Cummins/Stelantis have to achieve 85% participation in recall for 13-19 year under 3 years or face additional fine which will likely be upped to the full 37k+5k per vehicle. Possibly hold out for a better deal?
-Post recall warranty is for emissions related only.
Had my 2017 dually done in November 2023 no change!
BTW - Just because you have the recall done does NOT mean the full change is active immediately.
The system will learn the vehicles sensor range, performance, trans performance, etc for months then slowly activate changes and continue to learn vehicle.
IMO you cannot just be like ‘OH - I had it done and felt no real performance change’
think about the 1500 eco rams and how there update caused more trouble.
My Ram won't pass smog since the recall. Just getting warmed up for a fight with the dealer and Ram.
I have an early 07 ram 5.9 ! I live in California! Should i be worried?
No
Supposedly it only goes back to 2013
No worries, until they say your older coal roller is a gross polluter, then, well... 😢
If the power or fuel economy is drastically changed it seems like a good class action lawsuit. Can't say a engine is 350hp and 15mpg then flash it and loose 50 hp and 5mpg.
there is not even an option anymore, this year I read they are putting Gas Particulate filters on some vehicles. They are forcing us into a technology that has not been one fully developed and 2 does not have a support system in place and three is even more cost prohibitive than fuel powered cars. There needs to be a freaking buyback at least.
WHO CHEAT!?!? RAAAAAAM! Haha
It’s ok since JB says it’s ok.
Would someone please explain to me how the hell the possibility of burning more fuel is better for the environment?
It's trade offs. More fuel changes the type of emissions (more fuel, cooler burn, less NOX). More effective use of particulate filter and catalyst requires more fuel. Regen requires more fuel. Even on gas engines this has been the trade off since 1970. Modern gas engines dump extra fuel (run rich) to help the catalytic converter gets up to operating temperature more quickly during the first while after startup. With GDI engines they could run a lot leaner during normal operation, but that would increase NOX so they are programmed to burn more fuel to minimize NOX. EGR is another way of reducing emissions at the cost of more fuel usage per horsepower.
Thank you for a great video as always, but one thing concerns me about pollution. These people want to save the Earth, the air but really they don’t care too much about people pretty much air ,water, food everything it’s polluted I don’t think it’s fair, but it is what it is. I guess we have to be followers and follow California.
There is little comparison between VW and this ,in that VW was totally responsible for their problem. The engine in the dodge and software was made by Cummins not FCA
Why are they transparent the EPA and show the testing? And what exactly this upgrade does
that is one toll to do a buyback lmao. Might as well just call it Bankrupt. Actually is not a bad idea to have two ECM. When is time for state inspection just swap it. They better buy quick before all this ECM sellers are notified.
Lmao! That statement to end the vid. 🎉
