I like your podcast. Your projects are well done and very documented . However I can’t help but feel all the pressure you put on yourself to knit for the sake of the podcast and how much you worry about what the viewers expect. don’t be so hard on your self , from what I understand you still have a day job so this should be you sharing your craft and passion . Be yourself and you will enjoy much more
I would take the time now to steek the bottom part of the Yell so the circumference is what you want. Put that colorwork band around your body and pinch it where it feels like enough ease, then cut out the excess fabric. I think the Yell looks half again too big on your frame. Since it will take so much time and effort, I think modifying it now, before working the upper body, you will be happier. Your knitting is BEAUTIFUL!!
@@thewoollyworkerI was going to suggest this same solution at this point. Just take out as many repeats as needed to get the measurements for your size… you are going to steek anyway. Good luck! And just do what gives you joy, that is what I am here to witness.
Hello Vanissia, I'm very sorry to hear how much pressure you put on yourself to comfy your viewers (possible) expectations instead of comfy yourself by just following your joy of knitting/crafting. Addressing directly your struggles with social media content creation may help viewers understand the pressure your under better. And from my understanding our knitting community is always very understanding. To stop working on a project because of YT wouldn't come to my mind, if this was me showing my hobby to others. I do follow several podcasters doing only monthly videos and still enjoy their (free!!) content. Besides that, your Ravelry project pages are very well detailed and in case there are questions left, you always encourage people to contact you. To be honest, I have - sadly - stopped watching other makers on YT before when recognizing their need to produce just for the sake of the viewers/the channel or doing collabs but feeling their discomfort even though they try to hide it "professionally". I hope you'll find a suitable way for YOURSELF to continue with your podcast and above all your knitting. In the end, it is *your* free time, *your* hobby and *your* joy and relaxation you get out of it, nobody else's!! Regarding your Friday Tee, I personally think, the lower neckline suits you perfectly. The colour combination is beautiful on you! Maybe by adjusting the length of your sleeves and (also shortening the body a little bit), it'll balance itself out and underlines your body proportions. Long story short: I hope you won't let go off your hobby one day because of YT/SM and keep enjoying knitting! ❤️
Your Friday tee is beautiful and the colors are so flattering for you. It doesn’t look too big although I know you liked the fit better before blocking. If it were me I would just frog the sleeves back rather than do surgery, but again that’s just me! Your Moonset tee is perfection and the color is nice on you even if it is not part of your summer pallet. The Yael Cardigan is wordlessly stunning and I look forward to following your progress, but don’t let the podcast slow you down if you feel motivated to knit on and on, because the joy of your knitting should always come first!!
Ok so much to say 😅 First the colours of your Friday tee really make you glow. Second I had the same issues with sleeve length on a project last year and recently went through my knits and fixed or frogged everything I wasn’t happy with. And I guess my recommendation for the fit issue is to fix it right away because in my experience you just always tend to go for another knitted object that fits better and at the end of the day it will just lay in your wardrobe. When you showed that picture of all your yokes of sweater, I felt very much seen with my 6 sweater WIPs which lie in different corners of my flat. And your Kjell Cardigan looks magnificent. It’s seriously a piece of art. And I was wondering if you can solve the width issue with steeking. Just steek out more of the body than planned ? Or wouldn’t that work? I’ve seen other knitters do that with projects that weren’t even intended for steeking. And maybe for filming the process of the Cardigan you can just prefilm when you reached a point in the Cardigan that you want to share and just include it in the podcast. I wouldn’t mind that. And this way you could continue knitting on it straight away instead of waiting until you film the next podcast episode. All in all a lovely episode and I was looking so much forward to this today ❤
If it was me I would frog the Friday Tee if I wasn't entirely happy with it. However if you can't bear to do that, just shortening the sleeves would instantly give the impression of the garment being the correct size for your body. Good for you for sharing all your 'knitting worries' - we all have them!
The yell cardigan looks twice as wide as your body. I worry about how much work you'll do to make it so oversized and then ultimately dislike the size on such a landmark piece. I agree with other comments suggesting making a mock-up of the same size for trying on to see what you think. Worst case you can steek what you've already accomplished as a scarf and start a new one that better suits your size.
I love the level of details and numbers you provide around your knitting😆❤ right up my alley!! I can also feel you in your wish to follow your established "system" and feel some pressure that drives you to find creative solutions to adapt and obtain feedback what we'd do/like to see when it doesn't fit something😂 you'd be a fantastic engineer/developer haha! awesome podcast Vanissia!
so. obessed. with. your yell cardigan progress!!! That's awesome that it has been satisfying knitting process too (and it's SO beautiful!). I totally get what you mean that sometimes I want an attention grabbing knit to take my mind off things! Like please occupy my brain so that it doesn't have any remaining capacity to spiral 😂So I hope you keep knitting on it whenever you are feeling inspired!!!! Also the "idk I vibe with numbers" at the end made me chuckle haha. Best of luck with everything you are figuring out life-wise!
Love your podcasts as usual. Just podcast when it suits you and for the length of time that fits in to your schedule. This is your hobby and has to bring you joy. I like the Friday tee on you. For me it looks comfortable to wear, colour is fab. Sleeves are personal. Maybe instead of shortening them, knit them three quarters length and then you might love the size of body more!!! Love the Yell cardigan but like other comments, it does look very big. Maybe don’t rip, leave on hold and just cast on the smaller size and compare the two…… Or reach out to the designer or another Raveller who has knit it already in the same yarn. Is there anyone living in Scotland who has knit it and then you could arrange a meet up to try theirs on….. Anyway, sending you big hugs and positive thoughts 😀
I made Marie Wallin's chestnut last year and did the same thing with knitting the sleeves bottom up... When you do your body section, just make sure you measure out how it stretches out/blocks then you can figure out how much of the motif you want to repeat when you decide the length of the sleeves. Also worst case scenario is that you can steek more fabric from the front if you find that it's too wide. Essentially treat your knitted fabric like a sewn garment and cut away at it. It's looking gorg btw!! Take notes if you feel like you'll forget but as a viewer, while it's fun to see your progress, just chatting about what you did/tried with pictures will be plenty for content!
I think you should frog the Friday tee to make the alterations as i dont think it will take you long to fix and then you will have a top you love rather than one that will stay in he cupboard. I know it’s frustrating. Ive just had to rip back quite a bit of a top im knitting as the armholes where way too deep for me and would show my bra which i didnt want. I had to force myself to do it but im so glad i did. BTW your Friday tee is beautiful as you are such a talented knitter but i can understand what you are saying ❤
RE the Friday Tee, there are two things I would change if it were me - but keep in mind, taste in clothing is such a personal thing... Anyway, the two things are, I'd shorten the sleeves by two repeats, and I'd actually shorten the ribbing on both the sleeves and the body to match the neckline. The latter is not so much about the length of the tee and the sleeves, more so about the overall look - I personally think the tee would look better this way. The positive ease and the way it sits on you I find pleasing, and the length of the body as well. One more thing to keep in mind if you decide to shorten the body (which I wouldn't do), due to the raglan lines going down this much, you might want to check what happens with the body when you lift your arms straight up. The lower end of the tee will go up but how much up is the question, and you might want to consider this as well when deciding on whether to shorten the body. RE the Yell cardigan, I can only share my experience with a different Marie Wallin pattern that has the same... pattern? - as in, the shape of its parts and the way they're put together is the same. It's Colleen. It is very much oversized indeed but with this shape it has to be, still, I think you can go overboard with the width. I have an idea and it involves the sweater you showed in this video, the brioche one, with the T-shape. Measure the width of the back of the Yell you're making. Take your sweater, spread its sleeves out and see which point the width of your Yell would reach, clip on some stitch markers or safety pins, then put on the sweater to see how low this point will be. Then add a couple of inches, because due to the construction of the Yell, the upper part of the back won't sit on top of your shoulders but at the back - somewhat like in the Moonset Tee but not quite - and this would drop the dropped shoulder even more. Think about whether you'd like Yell's sleeves to start at the point you're looking at. If yes, I think the width is going to be fine. If no... sadly, I'd start over. There may be better ways to judge whether what you're making will fit you nicely, this is the best one I could think of so far. And particularly with Yell it'd be such a shame if the fit is no good, not only it is a lot of work but once the steeks are cut, good luck reusing the yarn... Thank you very much for sharing your experience with Meadow! I have this yarn (funny, the same color, too) in my stash and eventually I want to make a long sleeved garment. I've read that Meadow knits up well with surprisingly large needles for its weight but I have not swatched yet so I can't confirm, in any case I'll choose needle size that gives me fabric that I like. I am not (that) afraid of tiny needles although I do make my life a little miserable sometimes by having this approach so we'll see what happens with this particular yarn whenever I get to using it.
lovely episode ! the Friday tee looks really good in my opinion. the season sweater is AMAZING ! Love your progress on the Yell cardigan, and yes do what you want if you want to knit a lot on knit before the next video, go for it !
That's so funny, I just finished the Seasons Sweater by Ozetta too and before I was even finished bought yarn to make the Seasons Cardigan because I was loving it so much, so hearing you say the same, I totally understand lol
Knit when you want! Don't wait for the podcast, you could always do b-roll if the spirit moved you, but really, just knit! For the Yell, is there no schematic with the final garment measurements? That could help you determine if you've got the size you want.
I like the peachy color of your 1/2 fisherman’s rib sweater. It is very close to your skin color and compliments your complexion. Good job at problem solving!
Oh this is the same thing that happened to my Friday tee! It's so annoying!! I've tried putting it through the dryer for a bit but it shrank up not across. It's a weird fit. That color is super on you. Your podcast is so great. I was excited when it popped up today!!
I love and appreciate all the effort you put into your podcasts. I wonder if it would work for you to record some footage of the progress of those big projects and insert it when you feel like podcasting. That way you can keep knitting on them when you’re in the the mood.
Hey Vanissia, I love the look of your Yell cardi. I've you've not made decisions yet you could measure it, take the measurement and go to Toast in Edinburgh. They have Kantha jackets, that have a similar cut to the Yell cardigan and you could compare the sizing. No matter what, it'll look great!
Your cast ons are lovely Kaci! I have tried casting on the bolan tee, but had trouble with the lace section not having correct # of stitches. Also really enjoyed the footage of your farm and choice of music! Thanks for all of your inspiration!
I love your magnum opus! What do you think about recording a segment that you then include in a future podcast, if you run into the issue of wanting to show a project at a specific stage but not being ready to record a full podcast? That way you could continue to knit as it makes you happy/you have the motivation, and you can still talk through the project at different stages.
The Yell cardigan is a lovely pattern. Honestly, it looks too wide for your frame. It would be a shame knitting all the way through the pattern just to realise later on that it's too big. What I would do (in case you don't want to ripple and start again with a smaller needle size, i.e. 2.0, and/or less stitches): cut away 15-20 st. (or whatever number you calculate) on each side of the steek stitches. You can reinforce at any column. As of then insert your new steek stitches at the cut. Or cut in the middle of the back and remove stitches. Display the cut as a feature by applying e.g. an vertical icord or a fake crocheted seam/double stitches. Or knit a very small vertical band with any of the pattern bands and sew it over the cut.
In general I tend to knit my garments rather to small than too wide. One can easily adjust too small pieces by blocking to the right measurements but one cannot shrink too big garments. A lesson from 50+yrs of knitting.
I think the fit and length of the T-shirt look good on you. But I'm with you on the length of the sleeves. I'd make them a little shorter 😀 Thanks for another great podcast!
I'm so excited to see your Maggie cardigan. I'm tempted to knit it too but I don't know what yarn or anything yet. Currently working on a few things I need to finish up first. Loved the podcast as always x
Do some calculations considering how off gauge you are. In my opinion it is a once in a lifetime knit and deserves to be perfectly wearable. Better to frog now and consider what you have done as practice.
Did you wash your swatch? Broken ribb grows 30% after washing so 35 stitches for 10x10 become 26, meaning if you got 26x44 without washing it you were 30% off gauge @thewoollyworker
I do think the body of your Yell Cardigan looks a bit large, and at least from the podcast it looks like you can fit 2 of you in it? However, if you don't want to frog and reknit but you want it to be smaller, you can figure out how many stitches you want by comparing it to an existing sweater/cardigan you like and figure out how many stitches you need to remove. Since you'll be steeking it anyways, you can cut off the extra bit. So if you have 300 stitches and you want it to be 250, you can put 50 stitches around the BOR on hold, knit in the round with the 250 stitches and put the new BOR at the gap. And when you steek, you cut around the new BOR and also cut off the extra 50 stitches from the bottom section. So you can continue your progress and also be able to adjust the size very precisely. I'm not sure if that made any sense... Either way your colorwork looks amazing! I'm so jealous of how even it looks
Your finished Petite Knits shirt looks great on you! I don’t think you need to change anything. You wear it well and no need to tuck it in. The neckline looks like it should be. Great knitting.
For the question of width of the cardigan, before you cut the steek, I would measure the width of it and go to a shop, find a sweater with the same width and a similar construction, try it on and see if something that size is comfortable for you.
Lovely to see you again. For your Friday tee, I would definitely try the elastic for the neckline and pull back the sleeves. Surgery would probably actually take longer than re-knitting the ribbing. I wouldn't worry too much about the body length. Like you said, you can always tuck it in. Even if you decide to do nothing it is a lovely top. It's just a matter of how much it bothers you. Best of luck!💖
Hi Vanissia. About your Yell cardigan, I'm wondering if your row gauge might be tighter than what's recommended in the pattern. It's looking to me like the colorwork might be a little stretched out in the horizontal relative to the vertical and part of that might be because the floats in stranded colorwork like to stretch horizontally and this might have happened even more since there's no hem yet to stabilize the width. You might want to reblock your wip again stretching out the fabric vertically to see if it cinches in the width. You also mentioned struggling to visualize it's final size, perhaps you could estimate what the final circumference will be when you sub-in the button-band and then compare that to your most over-sized garment. If it's much bigger than that you might consider steeking more of your cardigan than you were originally planning so it's not so wide. Besides that, I would like to echo what so many of the comments have already mentioned in that you should knit at whatever pace makes you happy regardless of content considerations. It will be more enjoyable both your you and your viewers that way.
Your yell cardigan is gorgeous. I love the colours. I think you are not happy with the size though. All I can say is that I made a single colour steeked cardigan (because I wanted to work in the round) and once I cut it, I wished I had done something different, but now I just had many lengths of yarn instead of one big length.... If you're not happy with the size, there's no going back once you cut. ♥️
Your Moon Set Tee is lovely. Good to get it off the needles. I’ve knit two of them in a heavy lace in merino, I used the folded hem for both sleeves and hem and thought I was being original LOL. The flat hems seemed to suit the yarn better. I used a smaller needle to knit the under side of the hem and also the one row purl ridge.
Hello! Great podcast, as always :) I was listening to it partly while doing chores, partly while knitting on a Sophie Scarf I just casted on as a gift knit and a palet cleanser As for your questions: The Friday Tee: if you were invisioning another fit, maybe do unravel it a bit in the sleeves and the length to get at least to length you desired. A looser fit may look cuter if cropped (if you weren't going for oversize at first, there is). It is not looking bad right now, but when something turns so different from what we planned, it ends up bugging us. The Yell Cardigan: Absolutely do knit on it whenever you want! If you fear to "loose" bits you would like to tell us about, maybe record those bits beforehand and either insert them in the podcast, or make a project diary about it. Project diaries are always useful for people who want to make a project, especially such a challenging one. As for the fit, well, it is oversized by design, so it shouldn't do much harm if it gets more oversize then intended. The fact that it is a cardigan, and an open cardigan for that matter, allows it to look flattering with that cozy "robe" vibe
OMG Vanissia it looks awesome!! the color choices are mazing and the floats!😻 If it was me, I will put it on heap high and check how big it is, before keep on going. It is a lovely project to be unhappy with it like the cardigan you are going to 🐸
I don’t think the tee looks too oversized in width, but I think you’d be happier with it if you shorten the sleeves and body. Love the Moon Set Tee! I’ve had that on my wishlist for a while. The color yarn you used is totally my vibe
I so feel with you about the Friday tee. I just almost finished the On the rocks tank top light with a 28 stitches gauge just to find out after blocking it's too big. I don't know what happened, I gauge swatched and I hit the right gauge. Anyway the fabric is great and it's so beautiful to I want a top that I love also for wise so I'm happy I started over. Good luck with your Friday tee!
Because you asked, I think the stripes look good on you as is. But you're not happy with it, AND you're capable of making it the way you want. So I would encourage you to make the sleeves shorter and also the body. I wouldn't bother with Kitchener on either. I've done that myself but you probably knit fast enough to just redo it after taking it back a couple of stripe repeats. Can't wait to see what you do!
If I'm understanding correctly you are thinking of doing the November Jacket instead of the Ozetta cardigan. The November Jacket looks like another oversized Petite Knit piece and my guess is that there would be fabric bunching in the armpit more than in the Ozetta cardigan...the photo you showed looks armpit bunchy. I like the look of both your tees.
Knit what you want and when you want 😊 so many of us knit to help support positive mental health so do what makes you happy 😊 can I ask do you put lifelines in? I'm doing a lace pattern with numerous changes to the lace and I'm considering doing a lifeline but not sure yet
I like the fit on you looks nice. I would shorten the sleeves so they don't crease or fold ribbing and sew it. then I would plan another one in the fit you want.
it kinda is at first, very dry, mostly, but it blooms and softens ! Still wouldnt just be wearing it indoors to lounge in, i think it does well in outside weather !
Honestly, I think if you shoot separate clips of you doing various parts of the colorworking in the cardigan and even narrating what you've done, you could then put those clips into the "podcast" video. It would be a little more like a vlog, but you could work at your place and we could still keep up with you. If you are married to the podcast style, you could always shoot shorter episodes so it isn't so overwhelming! In general, it's just fun to watch you, so do what works for you! By the way, you have the most gorgeous eyes!
Aww you're too kind ! And that's a good idea too with the clips. I dont mind doing long podcasts, it's just the motivation to sit down and actually do it, but once im sat, i can go for hours aha !
I do think it looks large on your small frame … Can u wear something under it ? I would either knit the sleeves longer and use it as a pullover sweater … Or frog it completely ( IF YOU really want to save the yarn )… Or donate … which I have done quite a few times lol … The meadow moon set tee looks FANTASTIC on you … color and fit !
Don’t apologise for timing or anything else. Love watching you whenever you put a video out. Dońt do the knitting for us. Do it for you. I would definitely shorten the sleeves on the Friday tee. Then decide whether you need to shorten the body to suit you better. Other than that, lovely top. Isn’t the reverse side of half fisherman’s rib half brioche? So wouldn’t brioche decreases work? Just a thought…. I’ve just done exactly that on the Nomad Hood pattern, also knitted inside out. With your Yell, I think it´s important to resolve the size issue before you go on to the next section. Since you are steeking anyway, you could remove more of the bottom section perhaps?
You did a great job knitting your Friday tee, and the colors flatter you, but I'm afraid it does look less cute after blocking, like a tiny bit sloppy (sorry but you did ask). I would almost give it away and make abother one at a tighter gauge (or a different but similar pattern). Because you can see how cute this garment would be on you if it fit better.
Maybe you could send to Marie Wallin, a pic of your sweater held up in front of you to ask her for her thoughts on sizing? Definitely don't hold off on working on your projects for the podcast's sake.
How about you record your progress of your Yell as you knit it and then insert the footage in your next podcast. Then you can continue when you want to - your knitting is for you and we will enjoy seeing your progress. On another issue I cannot say enough that if you want a garment to fit then a gauge swatch is mandatory - don’t waste your knitting time on the hope that it will fit after blocking 😊
Hi Vanissia another great episode, thank you. What a great job finishing 4 projects! Your Friday tee looks good but I think it could be improved by shortening the sleeves and body, I don’t think the amount of ease is too much but I think it would suit you better if the body was more cropped, in my opinion. Your moonset tee is beautiful, Meadow yarn is now on my wish list, it is just gorgeous. I love your seasons sweater too, beautiful colour and I didn’t notice any pooling or changes in colour. Your Yell cardigan is gorgeous but it does look big. I think based on your gauge, you will be getting an extra 4 cms for every 100 stitches, I don’t know the stitch count for the yell but could you decrease to reduce the number of stitches on the upper body so you get the measurements you’d like for your size? It would be quite a feat to recalculate the pattern taking into account pattern repeats but a large piece of graph paper would help. I think it would be a shame to carry on without knowing how big it will be around your chest and if you’ll be able to live with the extra ease on top of the already generous amount built into the pattern. I certainly wouldn’t worry about holding back with your knitting just for the podcast, I’d enjoy seeing it at whatever stage you were at and primarily you should be knitting for yourself and the pleasure and satisfaction you get from it.
I think the friday tee looks great on you but the way you're talking about it it seems like you'd probably be happier with it if you added an elastic to the collar and at least shortened the sleeves so it's more of a relaxed fit and less oversized. Also definitely keep knitting instead of 'saving' your knitting for the podcast!
For the sleeves on the stripe tee could you not just frog the ribbing and then turn the last green stripe into ribbing using the afterthought ribbing technique? Here’s a tutorial if you have never done that before. I do it all the time when I get carried away and knit a sweater too long but don’t want to frog the last few inches and instead just turn them into ribbing. th-cam.com/video/laaGkC5sYvI/w-d-xo.html
Hi Vanissia, Your Yell cardigan looks too wide. I had to restart my Yell a couple times. I ended up knitting the whole thing in 3.0mm. I'm about your size, 5ft3in tall. I knitted size small. What i did was i knitted the moss stitch section in 2.25mm, then about 2 inches of the colorwork pattern section in 3.0mm, and measured the width at that point. It matched the 24inches like the pattern schematic (there will be an additional 2.0 in for each side for the neckband afterwards). Why don't you take the width measurement now and see how much wider your work than what the pattern indicates. I don't know how to do surgery to narrow the width vertically. If you have to unravel, it's better now than after completing the top body portion. That's alot of knitting and time invested to unravel then. I always had to go down in needle size for all MW 's patterns...even omitting a pattern repeat to make it fit me. I once unraveled the entire MW sweater because i knitted in the 3,25mm needle size as in pattern and the sweater turned out huge! I went down to 2.5mm for the entire sweater (the colorwork in 2.75mm)..the final result was perfect fit. Hope this helps.
Oh wow. I'm sorry to hear that. Perhaps you have to modify the color chart and main pattern motifs to fit the chart of size small. Some calculations to do once you get to the short row section. I'm afraid at this rate you might come up short on the yarn, same if you do the surgery if possible. I knitted MW Bressay entire thing in 2.5mm and about 20-25 stitches less than the pattern indicates, and it turned out perfectly but it took several restarts 😐 I love the result although it took a long time and frustration. I tried swatching but that didn't help. Wish I could give you more suggestions. Love your moonset tee! Your stitches looked so even..nice!
Yell cardigan looks great fabulous colours BUT too big such a shame with all your joy. I would undo it and do the smaller size. It is worth the effort. It is all part of the process. Good Luck
That’s sad about the Friday tee. It’s clearly too big all round on you. I’m not sure I’d bother trying to rescue it because you may invariably reach for the better fitting tops in your wardrobe, like your Moonset. Do you have a larger sized friend or relative you could give it to? I prefer doing that to frogging. On the Yell: I understand your frustration with it being huge, but one thing I think you might not have noticed is the effect your wayward gauge might be having on the motifs. Those little flowers, for example, seem stretched widthways - like your row gauge is okay, but your stitch gauge is too big. 🤔
Hi Vanissia, what a shame with your Farnham. Of course, you look amazing in everything you wear, but this isn't what you were looking for. In your shoes, I would frog the bottom to the length you want, then using smaller needles for the ribbing. Likewise the sleeves, take them back and then re-knit to the length you want. I would rip back now, then leave it in the naughty corner for a week before picking it up again. You will honestly be so happy that you did this and will have something you want to wear. Otherwise, I predict you will put in your 2024 garment fails video at the end of the year which would be a pity as you love the yarn and colours.
Hi Vanissia, I think your colorwork is gorgeous. However, it is quite large and you are petite. If there is a smaller size available, I would start over, however painful that might be. You have a lot of work ahead of you, and it doesn't look like it's going to fit you. Just my two cents :)
Your knitting is lovely! I think you'll be unhappy with your cardigan if you keep going with it as big as it is. You already sound unhappy, and in my experience, things generally don't get better. Go with your gut.
Really like the tee I think it would be worth your time to reknit it. Reduce it down to the smaller size and shorten the length and sleeves. It's so pretty, "Tucking" is a ridiculous trend and looks terrible on everyone, even thin people like you.
I think you should frog the Friday tee to make the alterations as i dont think it will take you long to fix and then you will have a top you love rather than one that will stay in he cupboard. thank you, definitely keeping an eye on my relationship with the podcast, but all in all, it's really bringing joy and fulfillment to document it!
Vanissia Do what makes you happy. We will be here watching no matter what. Knitting is your hobby ❤
thank you x
I would take the time now to steek the bottom part of the Yell so the circumference is what you want. Put that colorwork band around your body and pinch it where it feels like enough ease, then cut out the excess fabric. I think the Yell looks half again too big on your frame. Since it will take so much time and effort, I think modifying it now, before working the upper body, you will be happier. Your knitting is BEAUTIFUL!!
You could use the excess colorwork you cut out to make a little project bag / purse!
Everything is beautiful but I do think it looks extremely wide. Can you try it on by stepping into it and pulling it up?
think that's what i am going to do!
@@thewoollyworkerI was going to suggest this same solution at this point. Just take out as many repeats as needed to get the measurements for your size… you are going to steek anyway. Good luck! And just do what gives you joy, that is what I am here to witness.

The Yael Cardigan is wordlessly stunning and I look forward to following your progress, but don’t let the podcast slow you down if you feel motivated to knit on and on, because the joy of your knitting should always come first!!
thank you so much ! So lovely to read from you as always !
All in all a lovely episode and I was looking so much forward to this today ❤
thank you johanna !! Will steek out more and continue with smaller circumference, best of both worlds !
The most important thing is for you to enjoy your knitting. Anything you share is a bonus for us!
thank you :D
If it was me I would frog the Friday Tee if I wasn't entirely happy with it. However if you can't bear to do that, just shortening the sleeves would instantly give the impression of the garment being the correct size for your body. Good for you for sharing all your 'knitting worries' - we all have them!
thank you very much ! Will definitely fix the sleeves !
The yell cardigan looks twice as wide as your body. I worry about how much work you'll do to make it so oversized and then ultimately dislike the size on such a landmark piece. I agree with other comments suggesting making a mock-up of the same size for trying on to see what you think. Worst case you can steek what you've already accomplished as a scarf and start a new one that better suits your size.
very true, i will change things up!
The green sweater looks great the way it is. Wear it and enjoy it
Thank you !
Friday tee looks fine in the Body, I would make the sleeves shorter 😀
will do !
I agree.
The rosetta sweater is soooo gorgeous !!!
I love the level of details and numbers you provide around your knitting😆❤ right up my alley!!
I can also feel you in your wish to follow your established "system" and feel some pressure that drives you to find creative solutions to adapt and obtain feedback what we'd do/like to see when it doesn't fit something😂
you'd be a fantastic engineer/developer haha! awesome podcast Vanissia!
thank you SO much !!
I would consider making a jumper out of the Friday TEE... and making the sleeves longer. I think you'll enjoy it a lot more then.
i love this idea, would need to buy more yarn!
I'd love a video with your wishlist yarns that you want to try!
good idea!
so. obessed. with. your yell cardigan progress!!! Best of luck with everything you are figuring out life-wise!
thank you!!! cant wait to show the next update already with the grey main colourwork. Definitely feeling inspired by the challening knits !
Maybe don’t rip, leave on hold and just cast on the smaller size and compare the two……
Or reach out to the designer or another Raveller who has knit it already in the same yarn. Is there anyone living in Scotland who has knit it and then you could arrange a meet up to try theirs on…..
Anyway, sending you big hugs and positive thoughts 😀
thank you! A lovely friend has offered to bring her Yell to the festival this weekend so i can try it on :D Will report back !
Take notes if you feel like you'll forget but as a viewer, while it's fun to see your progress, just chatting about what you did/tried with pictures will be plenty for content!
ahhh the chestnut is so cool too !! thanks for the comment !
Love your progress on the Yell cardigan, and yes do what you want if you want to knit a lot on knit before the next video, go for it !
thank you Manon, that's so kind !
That's so funny, I just finished the Seasons Sweater by Ozetta too and before I was even finished bought yarn to make the Seasons Cardigan because I was loving it so much, so hearing you say the same, I totally understand lol
Oh wow! Good to hear :D
I absolutely love everything about your Friday tee, the colour is amazing and really suits you, good luck with whatever you decide to do
Thank you so much!!
Knit when you want! Don't wait for the podcast, you could always do b-roll if the spirit moved you, but really, just knit! For the Yell, is there no schematic with the final garment measurements? That could help you determine if you've got the size you want.
yes, according to the schematic, i am 6 inches too wide already !
@@thewoollyworker Oh no, you have a dilemma!
I like the peachy color of your 1/2 fisherman’s rib sweater. It is very close to your skin color and compliments your complexion. Good job at problem solving!
aw thank you!!
Oh this is the same thing that happened to my Friday tee! It's so annoying!! I've tried putting it through the dryer for a bit but it shrank up not across. It's a weird fit. That color is super on you. Your podcast is so great. I was excited when it popped up today!!
aw thank you! And interesting it happened to you too, probably the stitch pattern and the wide raglan or something !
I love and appreciate all the effort you put into your podcasts. I wonder if it would work for you to record some footage of the progress of those big projects and insert it when you feel like podcasting. That way you can keep knitting on them when you’re in the the mood.
That's a great idea!
I can see the purl row on the edge of your tee. It gives it a really sharp edge + gives it a really polished look!
thanks!
Hey Vanissia, I love the look of your Yell cardi. I've you've not made decisions yet you could measure it, take the measurement and go to Toast in Edinburgh. They have Kantha jackets, that have a similar cut to the Yell cardigan and you could compare the sizing. No matter what, it'll look great!
fun tip ! thanks :D
Your cast ons are lovely Kaci! I have tried casting on the bolan tee, but had trouble with the lace section not having correct # of stitches. Also really enjoyed the footage of your farm and choice of music! Thanks for all of your inspiration!
oops i think you meant to comment this on YoungFolkKnits' video and not mine aha !
I love your magnum opus! What do you think about recording a segment that you then include in a future podcast, if you run into the issue of wanting to show a project at a specific stage but not being ready to record a full podcast? That way you could continue to knit as it makes you happy/you have the motivation, and you can still talk through the project at different stages.
of course! splendid idea!
Yes, I ended up making it smaller and will steek deeper ! Will show in the next one :D
@@thewoollyworker The end product will be worth the extra effort:)
Your fair isle is amazing. The color selection is awesome.
can't take credit for it, it's all from Bella's amazing choices !
I think the fit and length of the T-shirt look good on you. But I'm with you on the length of the sleeves. I'd make them a little shorter 😀 Thanks for another great podcast!
Thanks for sharing!!
Omg that's so funny, I'm doing a Maggie cardigan ( with a long sleeve twist) in the Cardiff col Funny !
oooh twins !
VANISSIA THAT COLOUR IS SO CUTE! I LITERALLY JUST THOUGHT OH I MAY NEED TO GET ME SOME OF THAt COLOUR! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
I'm so excited to see your Maggie cardigan. I'm tempted to knit it too but I don't know what yarn or anything yet. Currently working on a few things I need to finish up first. Loved the podcast as always x
oh yay, it's a joy so far x
Do some calculations considering how off gauge you are. In my opinion it is a once in a lifetime knit and deserves to be perfectly wearable. Better to frog now and consider what you have done as practice.
for sure ! My calculations have me at a fair few inches too wide, the size above !
I'm so jealous of how even it looks
very true aha, can fit 2 of me in it ! I ended up doing just that, will update very soon !
Your finished Petite Knits shirt looks great on you! I don’t think you need to change anything. You wear it well and no need to tuck it in. The neckline looks like it should be. Great knitting.
thanks!
For the question of width of the cardigan, before you cut the steek, I would measure the width of it and go to a shop, find a sweater with the same width and a similar construction, try it on and see if something that size is comfortable for you.
Great tip! will report back
Lovely to see you again. Best of luck!💖
thanks! Will definitely do the elastic and sleeves first !
It will be more enjoyable both your you and your viewers that way.
thank yoU!
Thanks for the tips!
I love the sweater. The suri color is beautiful. I do not see any pooling. It is just right
thank you!!
Your Moon Set Tee is lovely. Good to get it off the needles. I’ve knit two of them in a heavy lace in merino, I used the folded hem for both sleeves and hem and thought I was being original LOL. The flat hems seemed to suit the yarn better. I used a smaller needle to knit the under side of the hem and also the one row purl ridge.
great minds think alike !!
Hello! Great podcast, as always :) I was listening to it partly while doing chores, partly while knitting on a Sophie Scarf I just casted on as a gift knit and a palet cleanser
As for your questions:
The Friday Tee: if you were invisioning another fit, maybe do unravel it a bit in the sleeves and the length to get at least to length you desired.
I love watching project diaries but do not like making them aha !
OMG Vanissia it looks awesome!! the color choices are mazing and the floats!😻 If it was me, I will put it on heap high and check how big it is, before keep on going. It is a lovely project to be unhappy with it like the cardigan you are going to 🐸
Thank you so much!! very good points !
I would just frog half of the ribbing for both bottom edge and sleeves in your friday tee coz I'm lazzzy ;)
Oh, and also - broken rib dosen't flare so you dont have to worry about lenght or needle size in this case.
haha, love the quick fix!
I don’t think the tee looks too oversized in width, but I think you’d be happier with it if you shorten the sleeves and body.
Love the Moon Set Tee! I’ve had that on my wishlist for a while. The color yarn you used is totally my vibe
thank you! and yes, the sleeves will definitely get a big chop!
Good luck with your Friday tee!
thanks for sharing !
Lovely knits - and in every episode im looking forward to See the beautiful picture in the background
aw, thank you so much!
I would keep that one as is and make a new one the way you wanted but switch the colors, do white as the main color and the green as the contrast
It looks great!!
oh that would also be a cute combo!
Vanissia just turn up the sleeves into a cuff and sew it down. It looks beautiful on you. Hugs ann
Great idea!!
Can't wait to see what you do!
thank you, i agree, frogging would probably be less headache !
I like the look of both your tees.
that's true actually ! Will keep looking around anyways
The striped tee is lovely. If you’re unhappy with sleeve length can you just roll them up?
that would fall, but maybe sew them up!
Knit what you want and when you want 😊 so many of us knit to help support positive mental health so do what makes you happy 😊 can I ask do you put lifelines in? I'm doing a lace pattern with numerous changes to the lace and I'm considering doing a lifeline but not sure yet
i never do, but for lace, i totally would !
Awesome 👍🏾
Thanks !
I'd consider just frog the rib edge on sleeves and bind them off without the ribbing. It's up to you. I think that might work with the ease.
thanks!
I like the fit on you looks nice. I would shorten the sleeves so they don't crease or fold ribbing and sew it. then I would plan another one in the fit you want.
yes i might sew them folded !
You should look into the Marbury Cardigan, it’s a fisherman rib cardigan I’m making right now that I think you’d love!
thank you! that looks fab indeed !
That Yell cardigan is so beautiful.
thanks!
You are amazing. You are very talented. Be gentle on yourself. Have a kind inner voice and self talk. You are ENOUGH!!! :))))) xoxoxk
Thank you! 😊
Your yell cardigan is so beautiful. I’m wondering if the wool is super scratchy?
it kinda is at first, very dry, mostly, but it blooms and softens !
I do think it looks large on your small frame …
Can u wear something under it ? I would either knit the sleeves longer and use it as a pullover sweater …
Or frog it completely ( IF YOU really want to save the yarn )…
Or donate … which I have done quite a few times lol …
The meadow moon set tee looks FANTASTIC on you … color and fit !
i would love to make it long sleeves ! Will look into getting more yarn for it. And thank you!!
@@thewoollyworker if u can’t find same lot just do a stripe of a different color and then go on with the new lot .
Since you are steeking anyway, you could remove more of the bottom section perhaps?
thank you for your comment, very insightful about half brioche, will keep in mind. And yes, will stop and think for the yell !
I was thinking about the friday tee and what if, instead of fixing the sleeves, you lengthen them to a full sweater?
that's a fab idea, i think id need to buy more yarn though !
it doesn't look oversized at all, it looks a perfevt fit.
thank you!
You did a great job knitting your Friday tee, and the colors flatter you, but I'm afraid it does look less cute after blocking, like a tiny bit sloppy (sorry but you did ask). I would almost give it away and make abother one at a tighter gauge (or a different but similar pattern). Because you can see how cute this garment would be on you if it fit better.
thank you! i really dont want to do it twice, so id prefer modifying this one for sure ! i agree that it just looks too much at the moment :)
Tee looks great❤❤❤
Leave the sleeves as they are and just make the sleeve ribbing about half as long. It looks very heavy with that much ribbing. (First sweater shown)
oh yes, could do that too !
The Yell cardigan does look way too wide! It would be easy now since you haven't done so much to start over. YOur colorwork is so beautiful!
Thanks !
That Meadow yarn is gorgeous omg 😭
i knoww, tempted to get another colour!
Make youre shirt as you like it. Otherwise you are going to look at every time when you wear it❤❤
Greetings from the Netherlands 😘❤️
thank you, will do !
I really like the size of the striped tee on you but agree the sleeves need to be shorter x
thanks x
Maybe you could send to Marie Wallin, a pic of your sweater held up in front of you to ask her for her thoughts on sizing?
Definitely don't hold off on working on your projects for the podcast's sake.
i've tried one from a friend, and yes, definitely need a smaller one!
Ck with the podcasters on Fruity Knitting. She has done many of the Wallen knits and cld offer some realtime advice.
How about you record your progress of your Yell as you knit it and then insert the footage in your next podcast. Then you can continue when you want to - your knitting is for you and we will enjoy seeing your progress. On another issue I cannot say enough that if you want a garment to fit then a gauge swatch is mandatory - don’t waste your knitting time on the hope that it will fit after blocking 😊
it is a lot of work to do that too, but i will look into it ! And of course, learned my lesson for gauge swatch!
I ❤ your cashmere colour
thank you, i've already cast on aha!
@@thewoollyworker i will look forward to seeing. I really love lilacs/purples
I certainly wouldn’t worry about holding back with your knitting just for the podcast, I’d enjoy seeing it at whatever stage you were at and primarily you should be knitting for yourself and the pleasure and satisfaction you get from it.
thank you for saying that !
I think the friday tee looks great on you but the way you're talking about it it seems like you'd probably be happier with it if you added an elastic to the collar and at least shortened the sleeves so it's more of a relaxed fit and less oversized. Also definitely keep knitting instead of 'saving' your knitting for the podcast!
thank you for the advice!
For the sleeves on the stripe tee could you not just frog the ribbing and then turn the last green stripe into ribbing using the afterthought ribbing technique? Here’s a tutorial if you have never done that before. I do it all the time when I get carried away and knit a sweater too long but don’t want to frog the last few inches and instead just turn them into ribbing.
th-cam.com/video/laaGkC5sYvI/w-d-xo.html
very good idea !! hope i get the motivation to go back to it aha !
Maybe the friday tee could look good as a long sleeve with this looser fit
yes! sadly i dont have enough yarn just yet, but maybe can buy one last skein!
Hi Vanissia,
Your Yell cardigan looks too wide.
Hope this helps.
thank you! Yes this is very helpful, mine is the measurements of the next one already, size L ! even if I am on 2.5mm ... grrr
Good Luck
it already is the smallest size, sadly, so ill have to be creative !
You could give the tee to someone that it fits and make another for yourself 🤷♀️
aw i would but this one took a long time so i wouldnt be motivated to redo it !
Thank you for sharing your thoughts !
@@thewoollyworker uh I hope you don’t think I was being too harsh. I was trying to be constructive! 😬
@@nicolanoller9264 no worries at all, very helpful!
Depending how you want to wear it, it could down you. Maybe take out a repeat
ill probably take out 2 or 4 !
Otherwise, I predict you will put in your 2024 garment fails video at the end of the year which would be a pity as you love the yarn and colours.
thank you ! i haven't fixed it but i really hope i do before the end of the year haha because you are right
Hi Vanissia, I think your colorwork is gorgeous. However, it is quite large and you are petite. If there is a smaller size available, I would start over, however painful that might be. You have a lot of work ahead of you, and it doesn't look like it's going to fit you. Just my two cents :)
problem is, there is no smaller size available so i'd have to improvise ! but i think im gonna stop and think !
Your knitting is lovely! I think you'll be unhappy with your cardigan if you keep going with it as big as it is. You already sound unhappy, and in my experience, things generally don't get better. Go with your gut.
very true!
Really like the tee I think it would be worth your time to reknit it. Reduce it down to the smaller size and shorten the length and sleeves. It's so pretty, "Tucking" is a ridiculous trend and looks terrible on everyone, even thin people like you.
fair enough!
I think you need to fix the sweater. It is lovely but looks to big for you.
yes i agree
Hate to say it but the yell is far too big for you fix it now so as not to regret the work that was done on it
will update soon!
BTW your Friday tee is beautiful as you are such a talented knitter but i can understand what you are saying ❤
yes you're right, I really rarely frog so it's particularly difficult to motivate myself to do it, but I admire people who aren't as scared aha!
@@thewoollyworker its really hard particularly when you’ve finished
