    Im just printing out this model now. Even though ive already got a load of Army Painter Speed Paints ive also just splashed out on the Speed Paints 2.0 complete set with 90 bottles. Gollowing exactly what youve just done here is my first mission. I then absolutely plan on using your white snd grey shading dry brush technique for a few different idea as i absolutely love how yours looks just like that. Thanks for the video

    this effect looks amazingly close to the 90 tmnt movie colors

  • @Springheel01

    You don't have to prime black. You can prime dark blue, purple or brown for interesting effects as well.

    • @OrcPainterNerd
      @OrcPainterNerd  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is true, but in general black makes life easier when trying to get a uniform colour on a mini using many different colours with out getting a muddy finish.

  • @jasoncarpenter5974
    @jasoncarpenter5974 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Slap chop is a centuries old painting technique called grisaille, underpainting in greys. You don’t have to use black to white. In fact it it usually produces a muddied effect. Sepias, browns to ivories, will produce a much nicer result even with traditional acrylics which are transparent by nature. Black is rarely ever a true shadow. Using Instant Colors from Scale75 with a black Zenithal (slap chop before they term was created in a joke video) is a stronger result because Speedpaints and Contrast Paints are ink based and Instant Colors are glaze based using traditional paint mediums and pigments. The natural color settles in the recesses and builds up and leaves the surface mildly stained. Especially with a super matte primer base.

    Now that looks absolutely fantastic! How you used 3 colors to build up to white is the way. Most folks use just 2 colors. Sure wish I lived in uk as I would have you paint some minis for me. I just love your style. Great job sir!

    Thanks to your review I bought the mega set. I like it, but do you have issues with the dry brushing coming off when applying the speed paints? I'm using the same paints you are for dry brushing as well as using my hand instead of a paper towel. That's without the medium, but I also find if I use the speed paint medium then the dry brushing comes off extra easy.

    I tried painting this model today using these same steps. I really messed up Leo’s face! The Speedpaint looks splotchy around his mouth area. For the rest of his skin I added medium and that helped the paint go on more smoothly. I don’t know if I should strip all the paint and start over or leave it.

    Do you ever use the speedpaint medium to dilute the colours? Im honestly not very good with the speedpaints and often revert to contrast paints which seem better for me to control

    • @OrcPainterNerd
      @OrcPainterNerd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did not need to thin the speedpaints in this video but I have used thr medium in the past for glazes ect. I absolutely love the new 2.0 speedpaints.

    I feel like I should have gotten a resin printer! I love my Ender, make no mistake, it's been great for terrain, but that is an incredible model! Do you have any videos about your printing set-up? Great job w/ the speed paints BTW. They are my "go-to" now for most model/mini painting these days.

  • @eldiablopotato

    I noticed an additional cap on top of your paints. It appears to have been painted with corresponding color for easier identification of what that color looks like when dried. Was this something you made?

    • @OrcPainterNerd

      You don’t have to think. However subtle blends and other effects can be done if you do choose to thin the speed paints down.

    Just went to look at the Ameralabs TGM-7 Resin. It's $90/Liter! This model looks great, but it had to use at least half of that bottle of resin so it costs at least $45 for one display piece.

    • @OrcPainterNerd
      @OrcPainterNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      I cherish my minis and think its worth it that minis will not break or get damaged. However I strongly recommend using TGM-7 on smaller minis to get more bang for buck as the saying goes.

      @OrcPainterNerd one more question. As this will be my first ever resin print did you use pre supported?
      Did that work out OK?

    • @OrcPainterNerd
      @OrcPainterNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not use pre supports as I scaled Leonardo down to 70% size. So added my own supports. However I'm sure the pre supported file will work great. The biggest advice I can give is make sure your resin is warm and in a warm room. Resin hates cold environments and most failed prints come from the resin and environment being to cold.
