    The simple fact that you made consistency across the range a priority is a major plus. I love gaming but don't want to have to roll dice to find out how much coverage each paint has.

    Have yall thought of making something like a vortex mixer. In the interest of reducing time needed shaking paints as they are so heavily pigmented when they separate it can cause someone to not use, or just hesitate to use, it rather than shake it to the point of making it viable again.

    • @aonline_abridged
      @aonline_abridged 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +1, I would buy this as well, my Robart is so loud and it walks. The Vortex mixers are too $$ for me to upgrade but maybe AP can make a slightly more affordable version.

      @@aonline_abridged definitely. I have one of the $100 ones from amazon and I love it. I'd like a second one but the convenience of one at my main desk and another at my spray booth doesn't out weight the cost. Plus I am starting to really like the AP product line, got the middle tier box of warpaint air and love it. The metallics are quite nice.

    • @ste022

      I have a vortex and the the Robart. I never use either of them, what I use is tamiya stirring sticks. I use a peice of tissue to pull out the nozzle and then stir them with the wide blade end of the stick, this works much better, faster and cheaper than any other solution I've ever tried.

    • @dfwdweghom8902
      @dfwdweghom8902 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ste022 Good on ya if that works for you. Most paints I've used are ready from the vortex in the time it takes me to safely get the nozzle off the bottle with tissue.

    Having fun with Speedpaints for a while now. They certainly speed things up a bit, even if you are trying for higher quality. The Dark Wood makes an excellent black flesh tone, perfect for my Numidians, one touch and done! The Holy White makes convincing white clothing, but not so much for hair and fur. They work best over Strong Zenithal (not much black) and they don't cover over black at all, so some planning ahead is needed. They often benefit from some drybrushing of highlights after they dry. Importantly - they are fun to work with. Two thumbs up!

    I could not recommend speedpaints enough for terrain and large batch painting, but with smaller minis (such as my tau) you either want to invest in more of their range beyond the starter set or go over with a acrylic, the drying time seems to be a bit high but overall they are really great

    The last mini (the space marine) really sold me on the speedpaints. I can see using them for my Eldar, Salamanders and Tyranids. Especially big smooth surfaces were a problem for me using your quickshades. The speedpaints seem to work better with that.

    • @toferkrz946
      @toferkrz946 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be advised that it won't work as well as it did in the video, ESPECIALLY on flat surfaces. There is obviously some extra work done to the miniature that has been omitted in the edit. Pay attention to the shoulder pad - the paint gloops and pools horribly by the bottom edge but after the cut in the video, it's all dried perfectly smooth and even.
      These are just like Citadel Contrast Paint. A useful, but temperamental tool for some specific applications, not rainbow unicorn wonder juice that will magically and perfectly paint every miniature for you. It is very disappointing that AP is bent on advertising these as the latter for some reason, repeating Games Workshop's initial marketing mistake.

    • @oliverp3545
      @oliverp3545 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toferkrz946 if you watch that shoulder pad you'll see it dry in real time and the pooling is not noticeable as it dries, and by the cut what you see matches with what was already drying.

    I have experience with Citadel's contrast paints only and I will certainly try AP's speed paints but I guess from the look here I will have the same issue with them as with contrast paints: The results are way to exaggareted in terms of saturation and brightness - at least for my taste. Maybe it is just the studio lights, but with contrasts I always had to add a dry brush with some muted tone of the model (grey or brown) to tone it down. This makes it again an at least 2-step-process all-in-all so not much of a decreased time and effort. But certainly another nice tool to utilize.

    very interesting esp for fantasy/SciFi models but I would like to see a video of how these paint will work on a range of historic figures from ancient to moderns before ai am tempted to but

    One of the issue i can see in them is they peel off really easy if you do not varnish them

    Will speed paint work on a black undercoat? Would like to see an example of that.

      it would probably make a cool subtle effect but I would think you would need to use a lot of layers, a lighter color, or use the zenithal technique demonstrated

      @@darrinhearn762 the issue with black is that it overwhelms the transparent paint, so would at best tint it.
      Other colours as the undercoat would work since from some experiments I've seen the undercoat is unaffected by speedpaints, so like a metallic would keep it's shine whilst being changed to be tinted by the speedpaint.

      @@oliverp3545 Agreed - these would not be very useful on a black undercoat. I've seen some very intriguing experiments on metallic undercoat. I am very eager to give these a try!

    If you apply Blood Red over a zenithal of Necrotic Flesh, you can get a bloody gristle/tendon/flesh effect

    I was worried about that paint flowing into puddles like in 3:31 that camo green, but its supposed to look like that after the paint has been applied?

      You want Speedpaint to collect in the recesses, but you don't want it to pool too much (unless that's the effect you're after). You can always soak up extra with a dry brush before the paint dries.
