    Thank you for all the info of this V6 engine! Makes me feel good about my SR5 trim RWD. I’ve hauled my 2010 6x12 Hallmark Trailer with my 2022 Tacoma several times and I’m impressed with how smooth it hauls my trailer fully loaded. I active the ECT mode every time and my RPMs stay between 1800 & 2300 on the freeway here in Myrtle Beach, SC. MPGs are between 17mpg & 20mpg on a 25 to 30 mile ride at 60mph hauling my trailer. Keep the videos coming sir!

    • @trdfenz3005

      Your welcome ! The ect button truly improves the shift points and revs each gear out longer making it feel more powerful it also tends to keep the truck out of the “dreaded” 6th gear where I find it loses power do to the fact the engine makes its power in the high rpm range. I believe this is attributed to the gearing ratio and the fact the engine is tech a “car” engine. It is a bulletproof engine though especially with the d4s tech as stated in the video. Your truck will last lifetime if you take care of it, change your oil and filter ever 5k miles. If you ever get a chance find yourself a steep hill and punch the gas pedal you’ll be truly Amazed the power this truck has. Glad your enjoying my videos I’m just a Toyota enthusiast and automotive collision tech by no means a TH-camr lol just doing this for fun. I’ll make some new videos in things I think of.

    Now I have 98650 in August of 2022. I’ve changed oil every 5k. Recently flushed the tranny, break system, system coolant flush, break system flush and both front n rear differentials. The truck has been driven to Seattle, Coose Bay and Cheyenne on three different occasions.
    As long as you take care of the fluids n what not it should last a good while. Hoooooah!!!!

    I’ve had my SR for almost a year, I really don’t understand the complaints about this drive train. Mine drives 50 miles a day to work and back, I average about 25MPG a week with two 70 mile trips to pick and deliver 8 large bales of hay for our horses every 2 weeks to a ranch up in the hills. Never had a single lack of power issue at any time, it shifts smooth and runs like a top, the truck is an absolute joy to drive.

    I have 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4, with 35,200 miles on it. I like my truck because it gives me a lot more ground clearance so I can do my own oil changes, plus sitting higher in traffic I feel a little safer & I am able to see over most smaller cars. I also like the fact that there is some space around this engine so I can do my own maintenance on it. I have the same engine in my truck & I also have that tiny transmission cooler on the front. If you are planning on doing your own maintenance on your truck after Toyota care is over I would recommend watching "The Car Care Nut" You Tube channel. He is a former Toyota mechanic who shows viewers how to do their own maintenance on their Toyota vehicles. I am planning on keeping my Tacoma for another 15-20 years.

Never heard of one those engines failing. The Transmission too is very reliable. Easy 300K engine. GS is pretty noisy too when the DI comes on. The original ones (I have an 11) required 5W30 CONVENTIONAL oil with a 5k oci. I wouldn't really go higher than that because toyota has a reputation for dirty piston rings.

  • @Pablo-cp9nc
    @Pablo-cp9nc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I just bought a 3rd gen Tacoma with the 2GR, my prior truck was a 1st gen with the 5VZ. While the 2GR makes almost 100 more hp and 50 pounds more of torque, it doesn't feel as powerful unless you rev it past 4000 rpm. That's a mistake in a truck engine. You need the power down low for towing/plowing etc.
    I should have bought a Ram 1500 with the 5.7. My brother has one and it has massive low rpm torque AND revs to make some great HP. His truck is fast, accleration off the line is impressive and it's a freak on the highway. What's ironic is the Ram with almost twice the displacement and much more weight to pull around is better on fuel than my truck.

    • @cj5fromla
      @cj5fromla ปีที่แล้ว

      Get Kd maxx pro tune or I'm sure other tunes will do the same but give you back the low end torque response can't understand why toyota didn't go with these type of tunes to begin with you'll even gain 1-2 mpg just depends how much weight you add on it.

    • @calebmelton5989
      @calebmelton5989 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      False. Most people drive these daily at modern highway speeds. The powerband is perfect. If you must tow just push the pedal harder, plus you can tune it and tilt everything towards low end if you like.

      @@calebmelton5989 Epic facepalm! You've obviously never towed anything, let alone up a hill or mountain lol. To say just push the pedal harder is pure ignorance on how torque and towing and engines work. Step into a 3.5L Ecoboost TT and you'll understand what power and torque is all about. Ford has been doing TT is trucks way before Toyota. The 2.7L is one of the most reliable TTs and a tank of an engine. It would out tow a Taco V6 with half of it. LOL.

    I have the 2023 Limited NightShade Edition. The Engine is a Non-Turbo, Normally aspirated engine. It creates torque at higher Rpm's because it's a short stroker! With a Turbo, it would not be a gasoline sipper as it seems to be. I find it does the job beautifully! I don't mind having to push a little farther on the gas pedal, and listen to it wind up to higher Rpms. Mine will hold 80 mph and deliver me 20mpg on the flat roads no wind. get into hills, and the transmission has to compensate for the lack of torque at lower rpms. Because the torque converter can fully or partially unlock, it seems to shift more than necessary. It is really the torque converter unlocking fully then partially locking and then fully locking that is a little much. But I don't mind. Toyota builds the best transmissions in the world, so it doesn't worry me in the least.

    I was a 2006 Tacoma owner with the 4.0 V6. I drove it 245,000 miles and it was basically trouble free. So I went to test a new Tacoma in 2018; went to the dealer and drove off the lot for a test drive. Went one block and made a U-Turn to return to the dealer. The salesman asked me why and I explained that the power sucked and the brakes were awful.
    FYI, I'm a car person that has done racing development and engineering. The brakes on my 2006 were awful as well, but I had converted it to 4 wheel disk and the problem was solved. The 4.0 has more power and is far better for towing or just hauling a load.
    After talking to a few owners of this truck, they tell me that the fuel economy is poor as well. I got an average of 20 MPG with my 2006, and they say they get about 19.5 to 20 with their 3.5 Liter. Why? Because to make any power with it you have to spin the thing 3,000 +++ RPM!
    It is a well built and nice truck, but they really need to do something about the power and the brakes.

      I just got out of 2006 Tacoma that I had updated the poor brakes on. I know what they felt like before I changed the brake system, and that is why I changed the brake system. I had also driven other Tacoma's with the same sucky brakes, but not the new model with the new 3.5 V6. In looking at the truck before driving it, it didn't look like the brakes had been updated, but to me the proof is in the driving. One block can tell me everything about a vehicle. This one told me the power curve was poor compared to the 4.0 V6 I just got out of, and the brakes were still poor.
      Fact is, it was going down a long grade on US 101 in my Tacoma that told me I had to change the brake system. After I did, all was good. I learned on my test drive that they hadn't upgraded the brakes, and the new engine didn't have as much power as the older one. You said it yourself, they hadn't changed the brake system. FYI, I purchased a Chevy Colorado with the Duramax Diesel. Power is good, so is the fuel economy and the brakes are excellent. It also handles well also. However, I have to be honest... I can tell that the build quality of the Toyota is better than this Chevrolet.

The 3.5l V6 is great and by all reports extremely reliable in the Tacoma and I love it. Just my opinion of course.
