@@TFLtruck Was this test done with the new truck in sport mode? Just curious. I own one and it's obviously much quicker in sport.
Let’s see all 4 Generations of the tacoma race. 4.0 baby!!!
Ha ha love the 4.0 V6
Yes! Please!
With an sc on the 4.0
@@dansherwood9851while seeing a supercharged 4.0 would be nice, I’d rather see a stock vs stock comparison to minimize variables and just see which is better straight off the lot.

The old Tacoma with the cool factor for the win!
That's a nice truck!
By far, my favorite of them all.
i agree, the last of the v6 and the shape is not trying to be overly aggressive
Even Batman still drives a 2001 Toyota Tacoma!
Oh yes!
That front spoiler on the Tacoma is the most hideous thing I've ever seen lmao
I’m so glad this video was made, low-key everybody knows the Tacoma is a dragster and is usually used as such.
No, but the 3rd gen kept tuning companies in business.
yea 3rd gen 3.5 is a tuners dream! tuned several of these 3.5s now and they’re bullet proof and make amazing top end power even na. FBO tune on some e85 will land you 350-360hp. Single turbo kits running 7 lbs making almost 500hp on e85. only weak spots the NA pistons if you’re going boost. but they still hold to 500+hp on ethanol. stock block capable of 800hp, stock crank capable of 1000hp. dual fuel system, variable valve timing, everything a tuner needs. might as well call it the new NA 2JZ lol
See when you put big tires on a taco it becomes a slug on the road
@@nbaldo003350-360whp while NA??
Well…. Majority of Tacoma owners complained about how gutless the 3.5 V6 was. I don’t see what’s wrong with a fun drag race?
Colorado Trail Boss looks great
Agreed. That Tacoma in limited trim is hideous.
@@Steven-xj2rfit's not great. I think it looks much better in the off road/pro/trailhunter trims. All the chrome with the chin spoiler is not a good combination
@@Steven-xj2rfno it is NOT, get your eyes checked
Imagine how much faster Nathan’s truck would be if he remembered to raise the front dozer blade!!!!
😆
eBay will be flooded with these soon enough.
The funny thing is that the dozer blade is just 9 bolts away from easy removal. 😎👌
Judging by how it looks? Is probably only there to pick up a hair more fuel economy but make it as cheap as possible knowing most people will just pull it off. Wouldnt surprise me if removal was key part of the design.
@@russelljacob7955 I'm sure it was. It doesn't look like they put any effort into trying to make it look good. Removal will most likely be the first mod for most Tacoma owners.
The old natural v6 doesn’t get too far behind, I would take that baby since it would last longer than the turbo!
Would love to have put my 2013 4.0 V6 Baja Edition Tacoma in the mix.
bro they racing a 2019 truck against a 2024 my 21 tacoma sport would g a p that 4 cylinder pos
@riccoguzman2181 yeah I don't think I can part with my 21 TRD Sport. Had it since new and want to upgrade, but that 4cyl Turbo non sense has me on the fence.
Bro it’s a Toyota it will last long the turbos now a days are way better then ever they aren’t bad there Toyota built and give them a year or two and these tacos will be perfect
@pinkpandamanz542 Look up the new Tundras with engines blowing up. I wouldn't buy a new Tacoma either. Felt gutless to me when i drove one compared to my V6. Good luck if you buy one or wait 2 years to see how they perform.
Be interesting to see the mpg difference after removing the Taco dozer blade.
I’ll keep my 23 4x4 off road. That 24 won’t outlast mine.
They will be proven over time.

My neighbor has gone through 3 colorados and I’m still on the same Tacoma.
Same. 2007 Colorado broke in half literally due to rusted out chassis and their 2018 needs no go now also. Junky and still feel like my grand fathers from 1996 to drive and ride in.

I really wanna see how the new hybrid Tacoma does
Yes!
We'll have to see how the iForce MAX does in this test. Would be great to see you guys get the opportunity for that when the time comes next year!
It will be interesting. It likely will cost 3500-4k more..
@@Steven-xj2rfit will probably only be offered on high trim levels. Toyota never seems to the high output engines on base models.

Yes, we cannot wait to put the new Tacoma Hybrid (iForce MAX) on this test.
@@DMSparkythey already said it won't be on SR and SR5 trims. It is an option for mid level trims like TRD OR/Sport and Limited.
That was awesome! I could have watched that all day. It was nice to see what all these numbers look like in the real world between these trucks. It's really all about the seat of the pants feel and drivability than anything else. Because 1, 2, or 3 truck lengths in a all out race really amounts to nothing at the end of the day. It's just bragging rights and I much prefer reliability and longevity over that. If anyone really wants to improve their drivability in a 3rd gen Tacoma, 4 or 6 cylinder, just get a Pedal Commander. I installed one in my 22' 4 cylinder Tacoma and it made a world of difference in the enjoyment of driving the truck. It's like night and day. I have no affiliation with Pedal Commander. Just trying to be helpful.
A word about the brake test. I'm sure the 10' difference between the 3rd and 4th gens was due mostly to the tires. So that was a nice point to settle. Drum brakes on the back of a pickup really don't make the stopping distance any longer when the bed is empty. I'm sure the ABS had to dial back the braking power to the discs to keep the rear wheels from locking up due to the light weight of the bed. Where the discs will shine is in their fade resistance and stopping power down long grades and especially when loaded or pulling a trailer. And another big plus is they are just a lot easier to change when they are due for replacement. It's definitely a move in the right direction.
Thanks for another great test as usual. 👍
chillin before i have to work, appreciate the vid
You guys forgot the 2nd gen. I think it's the fastest one out of all the tacomas

I think that the new Ranger VS the new Tacoma hybrid VS the 2.7L HO Colorado would be an interesting race
If the ranger has the 3.0L it wins hands down. If it's the 2.3l it will probably keep up but not beat the 2.7L Colorado. If it's the 2.7L ranger it will pull ahead of the Colorado on top end. The hybrid Tacoma might keep up with the 2.3L Ranger but I doubt it does much better then the none hybrid tacoma.
@@foxwithshades7080 the Ranger with the 2.7EB might have a chance too.

In 26 years if we ALL can be here to see that drag race promised. That would be awesome. I am sure Nathan and Andrey agree.
That would be amazing! We hope to see you back here in 26 years.
That old SC Taco would have had an even better time if the owner didn't take 2 seconds to get it into 3rd gear. His launch and shift into 2nd was spot on. (Assuming the run they recorded was the time they showed). Very quick little truck!
I'll be honest with ya... I got more faith in that OG lasting another 26years then the new motor...
WITHOUT the supercharger you are probably right.
Colorado at 16.13. New taco 16.90. Old taco 17.53. In a previous video, Ranger and Nissan frontier we’re making times of ranger 16.38. Pro4x 17.62. 😊
The Colorado really ran laps around the Tacoma at 10k less 😂
But it's a POS that always end up in the junk yard 😊
It doesn’t have port injection like the Taco so it will clog up.
@@brycen575 The 3rd Gen and 4th Gen Taco use dual port and direct injection. This is true of the 22 and up Tundra as well. The Chevy is direct injection only and will require someone to use cleaner periodically in the intake to keep the valves clean.
Its the top powertrain for the model. The tacoma was running a base powertrain
@@emmanuelmedina2740 The Hybrid Tacoma will be faster and more efficient than the Chevy.
Love my 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport (with a tune which really wakes it up), but sometimes I think Toyota is living on past rep in the quality thing. I've owned 2 Toyota pickups (1 bought new) with the legendary 22R, and four Tacoma's starting with a 2004. Every Tacoma I have owned the quality has dropped a tad and you can feel it. My 2004 was by far my favorite and as long as you kept the rust at bay (especially frame) it was so solid. With my current truck, Toyota messed something up with the roof sound deadening and it sounds like a cat on a tin roof in the rain. Dealer wanted to strip out the headliner to fix and I said "forget it, you will mess it up worse".
GREAT video guys made me smile a whole bunch 😅😊🎉
Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video and merry Christmas all! Hope Toyota used better steel on new tacoma frames
I would take that older Toyota sr5 with the manual over any of that stuff out there today.
Great video as always gents!
I owned a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road and got rid of it because I hated the 3.5 engine and auto transmission combo. It was very under powered and even after having it reprogrammed by Toyota several times the transmission never seemed to be in the right gear. The combo also produced terrible gas milage. I am really looking forward to seeing what the turbo hybrid brings to the table.
The aftermarket tunes really make them come alive, but I also get why people wouldn’t want to do that.
I get 19 mpg out of my 23 SR5 which is good for a truck. I really don’t have a problem with the auto but the truck is slow. I think they have come a long way since 2017.
The only tacoma that had a real truck motor and is still the best generation is a second gen with the 4.0 faster and stronger than all the generations ....
U maybe have the 2.7 i4 because my uncle have the 3.5 v6 and it is really quick, 278hp in the 3.5v6

Great testing just what I use my truck for
I have similar Michelin tires on my frontier, and they seem to be oriented to low rolling resistance than traction.
Love the new Frontier
I figured something out yesterday about the new gen frontier tires after nearly being in an accident.
The oem fitment are the equivalent of Walmart Michelin. Built to a lower spec.
Same for the hankooks on my pro4x.
They are absolutely deadly on a wet road.
I picked the truck up from dealer I thought oh good it's got at pros on it.
I had read a lot of positive reviews when tire shopping for my old frontier.
Absolutely the worst tire I've ever seen on a truck for wet conditions.
I've seen others mention this for the Michelin as well. The guys here local use GM trucks for work that is all they will fit on them because traction and wear is so good.

Really the only thing that makes me want to get rid of my 3rd Gen Taco is the terrible gearing where the Trans just can't decide what gear it wants to be in on the interstate even with just the slightest incline.
Otherwise I really love the thing.
I love my 3rd Gen manual, really perfects the truck imo.
I had a 3rd Gen TRD OR for about 3 yrs and the way the truck felt while driving was very disappointing.
At one point I even thought about swapping the engine, since it bothered me so much.
You could re-gear your truck and that would help, but that depends on what kind of driving you do.
I now have a 2nd GEN 4 cyl 5 spd, that I enjoy driving a LOT more than the 3rd GEN I had.
The 2nd GEN I have, is a lot more responsive and a lot more fun to drive.

Way to go Andre! Chevy Colorado for the win!
Now you have to do the Trail Boss against the i-FORCE engine in the tacoma. The electric motor helps quite a lot.
I want to see you guys do some work based comparisons.
Load an air compressor, some sheets of wood, some 2X4s, some pipes, some nail/screw boxes, some buckets of stuff, and hitch up a small trailer.
Then drive 40 miles through traffic and go up a grade then down a grade.
Which brakes are the smoothest? Which brakes seemed to overheat. How easy was it to tie down a load of stuff? Which vehicle has the least amount of plastic parts? Did the bed get all scratched up? I am especially curious how well the aluminum clad tail gate holds up to abuse.
How easy was it to load and unload the stuff? Which has the shortest turn radius? Which is more comfortable to drive when loaded? Which stops the fastest when loaded? How much can be carried?
I am not sure how valuable it is to see which is the fastest in the 1/4 mile for a mid sized pickup truck but it's a hell of a lot of fun to watch it!

Actually the 97 Tacoma with the new magnuson tvs1320 supercharger beat them all at the last run
I think 25 years in the future has already long come for Toyota. We've owned an '76 fj40, '95 2nd gen 4runner, '99 SC 3.4 4runner, '05 4.0 4runner, 2nd Gen trd Taco, '07 4.7 gx470. I think theres no need to wait another 25 years, Toyota.
But how many 20k battery packs will it have gone through in 25 years?
I am in a bolt ev rental car here in the NYC metro area. I'm seeing level 2 chargers in the 35cent per kWh to 59cent kWh range. I saw a DCFC at 69 cent per kWh. These charger prices are some BS. Evs are going to be impractical and more expensive to run than ICE.

I ask this every time you do a brake test. Why don’t you use the solo to test the braking distances? Zero human error for response times or measuring errors.
Take one of tacomas best model 2005-2007 in a stress test to 100mph and it’ll smoke the 4 cylinder. I think the new ones are quicker on the take off from 0-60 by a little but the more robust classic V6 is gonna pump a lot more power in a long shot
The 4.0 makes less peak power, tho. What are you even talking about?
The 4.0 2nd gen doesn't make much less power but also weighs about 300-400lbs lighter. It would probably be a close race. Plus it's geared better than the 3rd gen auto.
We've had Toyota trucks in our family since 1989. The conversation is about reliability not necessarily speed and only time will tell if the turbo motor or components will stand the test of time.
All you have to do is compare the new generation Tundras to the old generation. The new ones are having so many issues. The same will result to the new Tacoma. I have a 30+ year old Toyota Pickup with the 22RE. It is even slower and more underpowered than the Tacoma. But 30+ years later, it is still on the road with 306,000 miles. That is why I buy Toyota.
