  • I have been disappointed with Winchester rimfire ammo for a lot of years but has the quality improved since the last ammo shortage? Watch as we test this Wildcat ammo through one rifle and four handguns. One of my handguns really doesn't like this ammo.

First .22LR ammo I ever shot was a box of Winchester Wildcat roundnose lead my Dad bought me. 8-years-old and I can’t remember the make of the firearm, but it was a bolt-action rifle.
My intro to shooting and now in my mid-60s and still shooting. Every so often I’ll buy a box of Wildcat in honor of my Dad, who I still miss.

My dad bought me a Marlin Glenfield Model 60 .22 rifle for Christmas when I was a young teenager in the early '70s and Wildcat was probably the first ammo I shot threw my new rifle. I also think of my dad and that old .22 rifle every time I shoot Wildcat ammo. Thank you for the awesome comment.

Thanks for the 22 reviews recently, MixUp. Nearly every home that has firearms, has at least one 22LR. This nation is riding a fast train toward chaos and violence. Whether you’re a conspiracy theorist and believe there are forces behind the chaos, or just feel like it’s a natural/organic phenomenon, does not matter. That being said, because of the sheer numbers of 22LR firearms, reliability of ammo is going to become critical to many good people. I’ve been paying close attention to your ammo reliability vids, as well as your platform vids. Good lookin out, MixUp!

I agree 100%.You need 5 or more .22s to make sure. They all are finicky with certain ammo. My 86 Buckmark only likes golden bullets. The other doesn't care. Two Taurus TX 22s. Ruger single ten. Ruger wrangler. Two 10/22s. A CZ 452 bolt. A Ranger 36 (Marlin 80), sold by Sears in the 1930s. I'm probably forgetting one or two. But that ammo is getting used somehow!

I also have a pair of Keltec P17's and I had the same luck with the Win 22M ammo as you experienced with your Browning with the wildcat. Up to that point, my keltecs shot just about anything I fed it, that is until I was bragging on them with friends and opened a container full of the Win 22M ammo. I have one in the green that did a little better than my black one. The black keltec was about identical to your Browning. My best ammo across the board is the CCI with the AR image on the box. That CCI has the best pattern. I do love my Keltec P17's. Thanks for your videos! Also enjoy seeing your son with you on this. My son works with me in our metal fab shop so I know the feeling! With the right .22 rifle and ammo, you can get pretty good long range accuracy. I was out to the range on Friday with my Savage Mark II .22 bolt action that an old Bushnell 4 X 12 with adjustable parallax.
I hung some targets at 100 yards and after dialing in the elevation shot a 5 shot 1" group and another 5 shot group that was 1.25".
I tried a few brands of ammo, but CCI standard velocity shot the best so I didn't need expensive target ammo to get these results.
So don't underestimate the long range potential of a properly set up .22.

I was still on the old bird site when Winchester announced they were coming back out with their Wildcat ammo. I commented back then that I wish they would bring back the Dynapoint ammo, as that is what I preferred to use when I was shooting rimfire Bullseye competitions and was very happy with it back then (and it was way cheaper than Eley) while Wildcat had a bad reputation. Winchester responded to me that the new version of Wildcat was, in fact, the old Dynapoint. Looks to me like it is more like the old Wildcat with a Dynapoint bullet, which is what the box now says it is.
I shot an Appleseed 25m clinic last weekend using a 10/22 like yours in the video. The ammo I used was CCI Blazer. Of the 400 rounds I shot, I had zero malfunctions and had many one hole 3-shot groups using a sling for support. Rifle and ammo performed great. It's just the lugnut behind the scope that was a bit rusty and threw some shots when they counted the most. (CCI used to have the ammo specs on their website and they had Blazer with identical ballistics as Mini Mags)

Thanks for the videos , i haven't bought 22 ammo for awhile but have around 1200 rds, from early 80's -s/l/lr- have my dads Remington 552 manufactured in 1957 it's in very good condition, also stepfather's Marlin model 60 w/ gold trigger and gold medallion ( if that's correct) walnut, I'm getting a Remington model 592 5mm, ( can't remember if i told you that in the past) do you have a 5mm or know someone who does that you could do a video on ? Keep up the good work and stay cool us older folks can't handle the heat like we used to.

when the case physical characteristics meet the gun extractor, a place where it is not always found to be in agreement. You are right to not count it against the ammo. If the ammo spec on the casing were to change just a tad as in dimension or shape of the rim it may solve the problem for the Browning, but then not do so well in another gun. One thing I would suggest, while I am sure that your browning is clean and does well with other ammo you could be surprised to find that the extractor function is actually on the ragged edge of failing and it is doing so because the wildcat ammo dimensions and shape are just far enough different than other ammos that the extractor is just not getting a grip. Shooting sure keeps a guy on his game, seems always something to have to be addressed.

in my experience Winchester is slightly larger in diameter than all the other 22 ammo I've tried and some guns wont even chamber the rounds. I have tried several old revolvers that I can't even force the rounds into the cylinder it is so bad, and even if I could I doubt I'd be able to get them out afterwards. But this is the only brand that is consistently out of spec. I've shot Aguila, Remington, Federal, CCI, and a bunch of other brands and all of them seem to be fine but the Winchester just is too big.

      @anangryranger 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I fully agree with you. Their ammo tends to run on the fat side. Same issues with a 1971 Glenfield Mod 60 rifle. Drop the bolt and many rounds would not fully chamber. I measured several with a micrometer and had so many different measurements I gave up on Winchester rimfire completely.
They did chamber in my Henry 22 pump, mainly because of the extra power of the action's movement. However, now and then you'd feel some resistance. Eventually shot all that ammo up and never bought more.

I picked up a Taurus TX22 earlier this month and went out to shoot it after wiping out all the gunk and adding some lubricant. It did not like Remington Golden Bullet hollow points or CCI mini mags. It did like standard velocity CCI 40 grain lead and surprisingly Monarch 40 grain lead standard. Still have Winchester Silvertip, Federal Punch, Thunderbolt Federal 36, Federal Target Grade, and some Norma Tac-22. I put a total of a bit over 200 rounds that session and will likely try some of the previously mentioned again as time point. Anyway, will probably grab a few books of CCI standard in the meantime.

I have a feeling that your TX22 will shoot Mini Mag just fine now that you have put over 200 rounds through it. Mine has run flawlessly after a short break-in period.

Hey Mix (I'm gonna start calling you ".22Mix...) :) LOVE my Ruger 10/22! I've owned many of them and every one was a gem. Fabulous 22's. For any business work (hunting, serious target, defense...) I use CCI minimags exclusively. BUT, as you know, plinking is ESSENTIAL for training and....fun! I'll shoot any 22 ammo in that sitch. It is nice if they work well tho...
Keep up the good work and please...some more Mix and son nature themed vids.

I have shot about every type of bulk ammo that there is through my Smith& Wesson m&p 1522,Sig Sauer p322 Taurus tx22 competition and My Taurus tx22 Gen 2. All of these above mention 22LR guns have no problems at all with bulk ammo.
