**using a 22LR for self-defense is stupid and reckless.
**And one man said that more people were killed with a 22 LR than any other weapon, he was wrong more people are assassinated with a 22 LR.
**But if you think of 22 LR is going to stop some meth head or psycho unless you dump like a dozen rounds in them.
**Average hit ratio of good trained police officers are about 50% which means 50% of your ammo has a chance of hitting some innocent bystander which is not psycho and which is not meth head, or adrenaline charged or some other mitigating factor, and it does have a chance of killing them.
**Name me one police organization that issues a 22 LR pistol for self-defense. In spite of the cost savings that that would be, and bureaucrats are all about cost saving.
**Name me one military unit that uses it when it's gun fight time, (yes they may use the silent suppress 22 LR for a sentry removal) but when it's gunfight time it's back to the serious weapons.

It looks like a bare lead projectile or Winchester M22, which has a black copper plating. It may make a difference if you try high-quality copper washed or plated rounds if you're shooting lead. Then again, it may not! Every gun has it's likes and dislikes.
If it's M22, get something else. M22 is infamous for it's unreliability.
I have followed your gun and bible content for many years. I just now noticed that you pin the trigger after every shot. Not a big deal if you only shoot targets. It's a bad habit to have if you carry other guns defensively.

@roscoeshepard In my experience, the vast majority of failures to feed in .22 rimfire pistols are bad magazines, dirty guns, and weak grip/limp wristing. The bullet design has been refined over the years, but it is much the same as since I first started shooting, decades ago. I'm pretty sure if the bullet design was an issue, every .22 ammo maker in the world would correct the problem.

Using trash ammo and complaining about a 22lr pocket handgun not running properly is pretty comical. Use some minimags or some other high quality defense ammo and see how it runs. 22lr handguns are notoriously finicky and only tend to work well with particularly high quality, high velocity ammo. Yes, some 22lr handguns are less finicky, like my tx22 which is full size and will eat almost anything, but that's the exception and not the rule. After running about 200 rounds of CCI minimags or something similar, you'll have a much better understanding of whether it's the gun or ammo that's the main problem.

    Let me change your mind....
My worst .22lr pistol is a Walther P22. I bought one for me and one for my daughter many years ago.
My daughter's pistol had just about every possible malfunction you could think of and some that are pretty rare:
    Failure to feed.
    Failure to extract.
The magazine dropping out upon firing the gun (yes, it was fully seated).
Upon firing the safety would move out of the fire position.
It was sent back for repair three times.
S&W changed some parts out the first time and blamed the ammunition suggesting that we use CCI ammo.
The second time they change some more parts out (by the third time about the only parts the hadn't change out was the frame , slide, and barrel.
The third time I sent the gun in along with a spread sheet where I had fired about 8 different brands of ammunition.
I labeled the rows on the spread sheet 1-50 and indicated the malfunction on each row.
Every brand of ammunition resulted in multiple malfunctions per 50 rounds fired.

    • @emmanuelgoldstein4371
      @emmanuelgoldstein4371 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@steelgila I agree, especially .22lr.
I find that hollow point ammunition and 40gr round nose lead ammunition are the most common to have failures to feed. Also watch out for old lead .22lr ammunition as sometimes lead oxide will form on the bullet making it difficult to feed into the chamber.
But the problems that we had with the Walther P22 were design problems. For example, the magazines that came with the early Walthers had "ears" on the magazines that engaged with the magazine catch. But these ears were too small on the early magazines. There was just not enough "meat" on the ears to engage the magazine catch and the magazines would drop upon recoil. The magazine would often have to be reseated and the slide racked to chamber a round.
The safety would sometimes move from the "fire" position to a position between fire and safe.

I've had the opposite experience with both P-22s I own. One regular, one target version. Feeds CCI, Remington, Winchester and Aquila without flaw, and both are Walther, not S&W production guns, which I suspect is why you had problems. I purchased the regular in 2013 and the target in 2014. I've rarely had any FTF or FTE with either gun. I prefer the target for its accuracy and have used it in our local competitions, and placed well enough in ranking.
Is it as accurate as my early 1930s High Standard Model B? No, but my Model B is very Ammo Sensitive, and in my neck of the woods, Standard Velocity .22 LR is hard to come by. It does not perform well with High Velocity .22 LR at all, consistently failing to return to battery.
Like I mentioned, I suspect your problems may have been due to "Who" was producing the pistol. That S&Ws Walther production/distribution was marred by production and quality control issues even worse than the later stages of Interarms US production. Main reason Walther actually built a US Production Facility was S&Ws hit & miss reputation.
If you get a chance to shoot the US Walther production gun, I'd encourage you to try it. I strongly believe there's a Night and Day difference between the guns.
My only real complaint, is the Target version, is a pain in the butt to clean. 😮

I had the same problem with a Walther CCP M2 in 9mm. What I later discovered is not every gun that says “Walther” is a true Walther. The ones made in Cologne, Germany as opposed to the ones made in Ulm, Germany or Walther USA in Fort Smith, Arkansas, are made by Walther’s parent company Umarex which is known for their air soft guns. They just slap the Walther name on some of their guns like the P22 and CCP because they can. The REAL Walthers (PDP, PPQ, P99, PPS, PPK in .380) are great.

@onionhead5780 Yep. But with the very low cost of modern carry pistols, there's no reason to use a rimfire unless it's a training version of your primary for low-cost practice. The cost difference between the .380 and .22 LR versions of the Ruger LCP is about 20 bucks. I know recoil is an issue for some folks with arthritis, but reliability with today's .22 with quality control oversight being cut is likely to just get get you killed.

I bought one of these in January 2024. I test fired it with 250 rounds of various name brand ammo. I experienced similar issues...light primer strikes, fail to extract, stove piping. I sent it back to Ruger. They installed a new barrel and slide. 2nd day of testing with various ammo produced the same results. More light primer strikes, fail to extract. I sent it back to Ruger again. I talked to the technicians who examined it and they told me they fired 130 rounds of Aguila ammo through it with zero malfunctions. They advised that these pistols are ammo sensitive which I already knew. They said they would ship it back to me with 3 extra magazines, thinking that maybe some of my (already purchased) extra mags might be the problem. I haven't shot it for the 3rd time yet but I've already ordered some aftermarket parts that are supposed to fix the issues from Galloway Precision (hammer spring and extractor spring kit 27.00) and Mcarbo (stainless guide rod and recoil spring kit). There are numerous owners who have complained about this little gun and once they've added the parts I described, they've advised 100 percent reliability.
The issue I talked about with Ruger is - one shouldn't have to install aftermarket parts to make a 350.00 dollar gun function 100 percent. I'm going to test it again (without the added parts) but I assume it will malfunction so off to the gunsmith for install. When all is said and done, this has been the most disappointing firearm I've ever purchased. It may just guard the interior of my safe from now on.

Subsequently, Ruget has been much more innovative and completely changed the concealed carry market with the LCP and the LCR. You can argue that the LCP was a copy of the Keltec but Ruger made the darm things correctly and dependable and at only 10.5 ounces that was something. The LCR completely re-imagined the J-frame and the trigger is so light and smooth it's like a Custom Shop S&W trigger. Bill was NOT a friend of the 2A. Let's not forget all his shortcommings and only remember the good, like the single action Rugers and the old Security Six, etc... Bill was a mixed bag at best.

If it's shooting on center, file down the front sight, a little at a time.
10" low at 15 yards is going to take a little work.
Otherwise, place the top of the front sight slightly above the target and see where you are. That'll give you a clue as to how much filing you've gotta' do.
Keep in mind, if you're shooting downhill, it's going low, uphill's going to go high.
For this reason, keep the barrel, in relation to the target, as level as possible while making any adjustment to sights.

I have put hundreds of rounds through my Ruger LCPII in .380 without feeding problem, even using cheap Norma FMJ & defense ammo.
The accuracy sucks but pocket pistols are designed for close-up self-defense (

In most cases (no pun intended), the rim of a cartridge can get caught on the cartridge under it. It may be important that when loading the magazine, that attention is paid to how the cartridges are stacked - the back rim of the top cartridge should be before the front of the rim on the cartridge below it, such that each cartridge rim is staggered, so to speak.
If not properly indexed, the top round will try to drag the round below it forward, which may cause the top round not to be released from the magazine properly to feed.

I had a Colt Mustang .380. Never could it to feed right, do I traded it to a local gunsmith as half of the cost of a Sphinx .380. (Disclaimer, this is used in Europe as a backup for several police forces; but, it’s cut from a block of Stainless Steel, can hold 12 rounds, so it’s *much* heavier than an average .380.
*That* one never fails or misfeeds unless the ammo is really old.
For pocket-carry I have a S&W .357 “Chief Special,” with a Scandium frame and Titanium cylinder. Just 5 shots, but it weighs so little I need to check my pockets before I leave home.
(Absolutely DON’T want that to fall out of my pocket when I reach for my keys at the local Safeway here in CA!) 😂😂
PS If you fire.357 rounds through this it REALLY stings! 😖😖😖

I have no issues with mine. I run Federal Automatch and CCI Stingers. It runs flawlessly.
The SR 22 pistol I have eats everything without an issue.

I'd say that it's likely either the ammo that's being finicky or maybe it hasn't been broken in yet. I always put about 100-200 rounds through my guns if they are new from the factory to ensure that they are indeed broken in. My Taurus G3C had terrible feed issues for about 50 rounds and then after that 50 round mark, it started to function flawlessly.

Someone said that some one at the factory put the spring in the clip backwards, rotate the spring and see if that works better.

no offense but, so many people complain about guns being junk. There are definitely guns that are lemons, but a simple failure to feed can be fixed with simply polishing the feed ramp with a buffing pad on a Dremel. Also look into getting a stronger recoil spring!

22 LR is a rimmed cartridge, the rounds need to be loaded in the magazine a certain way to avoid "rim lock". As you load you need to ensure the rim of the top bullet is in front of the rim.of the bullet under it so the rim.of the top round being stripped off the magazine doesn't catch on the round under it. Repeat this for the entire magazine. There are a lot of internet articles that illustrate the proper loading to avoid rim lock better than I can explain here. Good luck.

My uncle had an LCP 2 380, and it began having failure to feed issues to the point he couldn't Rock the initial round into the chamber. He took it to get it looked at, and was told that lcp's tend to eventually develope that issue. Since it's a smaller gun, the recoil is harder and wears down the gun. Don't know how new or old yours is, but maybe it's developing that issue.

I had one and had several trips to Ruger and back. My problem was it would not allow me to rack out a dead round which would be game over in a self defense situation.

Had the same issue, in the the Ruger Max .380mm. I ended up manually racking about 100 rounds through it and it cleaned it up, and now runs great. I was shooting round nose and also flat nose, but no matter what i put in it, it would either not feed or it would fail to return to battery. Like I said tho, once i manually racked about 100 rounds or so through it, it cleared up and has run perfectly for me. I will admit, this is the one gun I do regret on some level for buying this, but as long as it continues to fire, I can only hope it continues to fire as it should. I will also add the .380mm is painfully snappy. I'm not to the point of carrying it for self defense yet, but it has operated flawlessly. Also, Ruger, for me anyways, has always provided superior assistance.

The worst 22 pistol I ever owned was a ruger 45/22 hunter. Terrible terrible gun, would not fire a full mag without jamming or failing to feed. I tried multiple different ammunition to no avail, that gun permanently ruined any chance of ever owning another ruger magazine fed pistol. The best 22 pistol I’ve ever owned and still own to this day is a smith and Wesson model 422. This pistol feeds anything and everything you put through it. Definitely explains why I’ve owned it for 35 years, it’s definitely a pistol I’ll never sell or trade.

I bought one. It ran good for around 200 rounds then the trigger broke. Sent it back. They said they replaced the safety. Got it back within a week. Pulled it out of the box and the trigger was still broken. Sent it back again. The have sent me a new replacement lcp2 22lr. Haven't took it to the range yet. Might just trade it.

My GSG does this same thing. I found out that I needed to use high velocity 22 amo. The problem was that there wasn't enough gas pressure to move the slide adequately for proper feed.

If you have the GSG 1911-22, it says right on the slide HV22lr required. Or you could scrape off all the paint on the inside of the slide and enjoy running subsonic ammo.

Recently, a family member had a similar experience with this handgun. My Walther P22 did somewhat better, but it too can be fickle. Some ammo is definitely better than others. I tend to go with Winchester XXX.

I worked at a gun store for many years and bought one of these when they first released and mine has been rock solid! I do mainly shoot CCI ammo but it has also fed the bulk stuff as well! Then after awhile we started having a lot of people bringing them back in having problems with them! We had to send 4 of them back to Ruger and they were all the sliver slides like you have here!
