A pleasure to watch your video and a bonus listening to the birds 🐦
I've started scraping plain double metal gates and wished I hadn't started them lol its extremely hard work, phew, but I will try my best even if I do a bit at a time. I bought red oxide primer and dark grey paint for outside wood/metal.
    Fingers crossed 🤞

@@catherinethomson6136 it is hard work time consuming. Radio on and relax into it. I actually enjoy switching off and listening to music and work. Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video.

I am currently working on a wrought iron bakers rack and boy do the curly cues on your fence look familiar. The loveliest part of your video was the sound of the birds singing in the background, thank you. And why do my hands look so much worse than yours? I have been wearing gloves.

A broken hacksaw blade is useful to get rust off in the tight nooks and crannies. Must be one of the worst items to prep & paint.

How long should I wait before light sanding the primer and undercoat layers with P180?

Oil paint needs at least 16 hours. Some water based are based left till the next day. Thanks

I hate doing our two 6 ft driveway gates.
Next time Iam thinking of doing the prep and then spraying them with rattle cans.
I figure the extra I spent on paint will be money well spent on saving time on my knees.

Great video, as always. Wish I'd seen it a few months ago, as I've made bit of a pig's ear of a job I did using and all-in-one Hammerite product. Would you have used Metalshield if you had the choice?

If I was doing larger gates can the rust converter be left overnight in rain/winter weather before zinc primer applied next day? I can’t get them prepped and rust treated and primed in one day and I’m expecting rain ?? Thanks

How do you know if it’s a sewer drain or a freshwater drain?

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  ปีที่แล้ว

Kitchen waste or toilet waste is sewers. But only waste water really should go down any solvents should not go down any drains, as I now know. Your local tip will collect waste solvents. Thanks

I prefer to use owatrol oil on any rust followed by spotting in with zinc oxide.
I've found owatrol to be farr better than kurust.
Also owatrol in my undercoat and top coat, about 3/4 a cap owstrol to 1 litre paint.

That's NOT wrought iron, it's steel, that's why it's rusting like that. So your video should be called 'painting steel'.
