    for our fences, I used a wire brush drill attachment to strip off old paint and rust. it was a lot faster and more thorough than sand paper. but i'm not a professional so take my advice as a grain of salt.

    • @Zabacleaning
      @Zabacleaning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is pretty clever and I'm sure it works. We don't sand by hand anymore though, we use an actual hand held sander now.

    If you don’t mind telling, how much did you charge for this job? I have my first paint job and it’s a metal deck on a 2 story house with basement and the deck is about 5x8 with stairs all metal. How much should I charge?

    • @Zabacleaning

      We pressure washed it first which was included with the price. I charged a little over $1000

      A hand held electric sander will do. They're cheap too

    Why didn’t you use a primer or rust protector first?

      Yes, he said it, but it didn’t look like he used a primer on the rust.

      @@michaelbrown5082 this is a poor job but I don't want to say it out loud. I'm a painter and he didn't prep anywhere near enough as can be seen when the gloss black is on (particularly the unsanded patches under the handrail). He also charged way too little for a proper job, metal rails and fences are very time consuming. Rust is a pain. It needs to be sanded off completely then a dedicated metal primer with zinc in it is first coat (some people use rust converter products but we have tried them all and the rust comes back in a year or two). Then we use a solvent based metal primer, then when that is dry (8 hours) we use solvent based top coats x 2 (8 hours drying each coat). Rustoleum is good. To do that properly is about a 4k job (hard to tell from a you tube video). There are many old coats that need to be sanded off and it all takes time. They should also be using a proper mask, metal and rust particles aren't the best for your lungs. Eye protection too.
