    I know this is an old video but man, this video changed my entire Lowes cart! I’ll be doing this exact work on my own fence soon. Instead of getting a scraper and wire brush and painstakingly spending my entire week of vacation on this fence, I just bought this exact setup with a Dewalt grinder and everything else! You probably single-handedly saved me my whole vacation! Thanks! And I can see me using this same equipment on my wrought iron porch furniture. Also sharpening my tools and my lawn mower blades.

      a pressure washer and paint stripper is far faster. Hit the loose paint with the pressure washer, then apply the paint stripper, then pressure wash again, comes out cleaner and faster, also there is no dust particles everywhere, just paint chips, much easier clean up.

      you dont use plastic wraping under where you use a grinder. Its one of the causes of accidents people putting stuff around or under where they are grinding. If you are outside you are asking for it. Soon as a grinder even touches anything that wraps up its ripping it clean round the thing at light speed. Bad advice and im a Coach/ Boat builder

    • @bigduphusaj162
      @bigduphusaj162 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JB-zb9zo walnut blasting is for alloys and you need well over 160psi and a 25cfm compressor to be able to do sand blasting effectively enough that cast iron or steel can be done... even then you dont use walnut mate walnut is the weakest abrasive one of the lot you wont even remove the pitting rust from cast iron with walnut. Im a boat builder we use walnut for stripping back alloys thats about it. Iron we use shot and even they take a while😂 Plus youd need about a ton of the stuff to do it and it would all be "to waste" as its not in a closed system

    What do you think about using the polycarbonate disks on an angle grinder for removing rust from an iron fence?

    • @bigduphusaj162
      @bigduphusaj162 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      they are a finishing disc they do a decent job of removing a layer of paint with some surface rust. You usually would use a 40 or 80grit sanding flap disc like in the vid to do the first knock back. A 40grit sanding flap disc will easily do shaping even routing your edges and removing lumpy weld marks too so will knock your rough edges off no sweat. If you dont want that level of cut and just want a 1st stage sanding back to take the paint and nothing else then quickly hit it with an 80 flap pad then do the trimming work with the poly finish pad. If you have a good combi drill then but the stainless wire wheel kit for that too you get them in a pack of 3 different ones for like £10 at screwfix etc. they are decent for getting into the arcs and edges and angles that the grinder cant. Im a coach & boatbuilder now originally a spray painter. The paint you want for steel/iron fences is either 2 pack marine paint the stuff for metal hulls or the cheapest but still 15-20yr stuff is the Skip Paint. I use Paint Master Skip & Container paint its old school tough and lasts 10yr even in the harshest conditions

    Thanks for your video. I have to paint a rusted wrought iron railing and restore several rusty and flaky radiator covers. I am a DIYer/on a budget. I have a drill, do you think I could just purchase a wire cup for my drill or do I need to invest in some type of flap disk? Thanks

    • @windypainterschicagoinc.5035

      Drill is too slow. Grinder cost around 50$. You can get good flap disc on Amazon for 15$ (Norton ceramic blaze 980). Dewalt knotted wire cup $12.
