    My wife and I went to Bentonville today for the afternoon to hang out with our friends and just sightsee.
    We went to the Bentonville Bike Festival for a couple of hours, and I only spotted a couple of YT content creators. After seeing your pic of you talking with Seth of Berm Peak yesterday, I was hoping maybe to spot you there also. I guess you were only there for one or two days. We got there around 2 o'clock and some vendors were tearing down already. Maybe next time I will get there at the beginning and stay with our friends for the weekend.

    Sweet upgrades man! I started with the.
    PNW grips after forgetting my gloves one day and my old ones didn't feel safe on downhill. They are absolutely killer! If I forget my gloves with these I do t worry about my grip anymore. Later i decided to get the bars after my wrists were bothering me and they helped a lot on top of looking cool... helped a ton! about a month ago got the Pedals and like them better than the Chester Race Face. Little wider for the feet to grip! I'm a massive fan of PNW. Kyle Warner from Kyle and April's TH-cam Channel is part of the PNW company and he helped create those bars!

    Nice job with the multiple camera shots, I know that's a pain but it does enhance your videos. You're an experienced rider now, you know what you like to ride and how you like to ride, so you're changing the bike to fit that. You'll find those bars more comfortable for the way you ride. Also nice respect for your elders, you were raised right! :)

    I run the PNW bars, grips and pedals myself. I love the Loam pedals, which are the metal ones. They make their grips in a desert tan color that would match the Roscoe's paint job nicely. Also there's a new DH trail that opened up at Lair o the Bear that you should check out called Rutabaga Ride, very fun trail. That new trail is smooth enough that I would call it hardtail friendly too.

  • @jmerodgers
    @jmerodgers ปีที่แล้ว +3

    As a general rule, take your height in CM and multiply it x 4.4. This should give you your maximum bar width. For example if you are 5'10 (178cm) This would put your maximum bar width at 780mm. This bar still looks too wide.. but thats only my opinion. You mentioned that the riser bars might make climbing easier. Generally speaking riser bars make steep descents easier as they tend to move your balance and weight rearward. So they actually take some weight off of the front wheel which can make climbing more difficult as you may find the front wheel is lifting on technical climbs. The PNW bars are a really nice option, with a 10 degree backsweep and a 30mm rise, of course comfort when it comes to backsweep is subjective, as some prefer more and some prefer less. The 2014 alloy in these bars is really suited to absorb chatter and minor vibrations. I run them on one of my Treks (the fuel at 770 mm). As others have said, the PNW Loam lever is a really nice dropper. I had the same dropper as you currently run on my Fuel, and it is a really cheap and fragile piece (trek has to cut some corners somewhere). literally the first thing i replaced!

    • @MattyActive
      @MattyActive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s definitely what I’m changing next! I think I’m gonna go 760mm

    • @chrisjones7281
      @chrisjones7281 ปีที่แล้ว

      My kore bars are 800 and I have some 5150's that are 780 . And I really don't notice the width difference being its only about 1/2" on each side. I'm 6.0ft . I had run 740s for years before moving to 780+ years ago and that I noticed. But smaller changes i dont notice. But everyone is different.

    • @jmerodgers
      @jmerodgers ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisjones7281 for sure, heck we used to run 24 inch bars back in the day (610mm). One of my current bikes ran 820mm bars and i tried riding it for a few weeks. I just had way less strength to pull back on them,. When my arms are splayed out like that i end up using delts and traps which strained and tired instead of the much stronger Lat muscles. Its definitely personal, based on your anatomy... but if your set up is wrong, boy do you notice!!

    • @jmerodgers

    I’m glad to see you liked them, Matty. I put the PNW range Gen 3 bars and Loam grips on my old (Gen 1?) gray Marlin 7 and like the rise much much better. I still have my stock stem though so I’m tempted to order the PNW one in 50mm; I currently still have the stock 80mm which has me too far forward on downhills and the steering could be crisper, though I didn’t trim the bars down from 800mm though.

    I love PNW products and the brand in general. The bar sweep really is a subjective thing. I prefer a flatter bend and run Kore bars that are 7 degree sweep. I had bars that were 5 and some that were 9 degrees and I found the 9 too much. So 10 Degrees would be way too much for me. 7 was perfect for me. I'm probably on a trek 6500 frame from 2010 and the first thing I needed were oil slick colored pedals with pins. All fun and games until you slip off and lose some flesh cause alloy pedals are hardcore and mine have sharp-ish edges. If you know some plastic/nylon pedals with oil slick color lemme know. Also bought a new adjustable ritchey mtb stem, cheap alloy 25mm rise handlebar with a bit of backsweep and some ergon ge1? evo factory oil slick grips..ofc the upgrades didn't end there. Also bought a new seat, brakes, tyre, tyre insert, tube and before I knew it an almost completely new drivetrain but kept the old shimano XT 9 speed derailleur. So much fun when you hit your new big chainring on a ledge and hear a damaged tooth. Really wish I upgraded to 1x10/11. Bought the damn thing for 200 but spent another 650 on it within 7 months. #itdoesn'tendhere
