    I'm trying to decide between a roscoe 9, or a top fuel 7. I'm 41, never had a full suspension bike. Actually still riding a giant yukon se I bought in 1995. Thought I was awesome with my 64mm travel forks, and bullhorn bars. Bikes have come a long way.

    Your riding skills and speed have got way better since the original marlin 6 videos you made man! It’s interesting that the eminent turned out to feel faster than the Roscoe on that terrain. Figured a hardtail would crush the smooth trails. Maybe the eminent frame really benefits from being so stiff on XC trails. Also you’re crazy for riding a demo in your first race, I would have been so picky about what cockpit parts I want on it and all that 😂

    I love that you use everyday bikes and not unobtanium bikes that most can’t afford. I have stopped following some everyday riders because as they become successful they move to the highest spec bikes

    Great trails. I just wish Trek would've put you in a SuperCaliber or a Top Fuel. Awesome riding with you!

    If you're liking the Onset then you should reach out to Trek for a Top Fuel 9.8XT loner. Similar GEO layout. Shorter travel @ 130 mm. Very good climber . Good XC choice

    That looks like it was a blast. Rear suspension was designed for racing, it gives a softer ride but that wasn't its original purpose. When you ride at speed the rear wheel bounces up and down, and when it's in the air it provides no grip for climbing stopping or turning. A rear suspension minimizes the bouncing and keeps the rear wheel in contact with the ground more which allows you to ride faster with more control. Plus, is that thing a carbon version? If so it's a lot lighter too. That's a nice bike for sure.

    • @MattyActive
      @MattyActive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they only make carbon bikes. I like how it minimizes vibrations also!

    Trails looked hardtail ready all day. I'm still team Roscoe on this one. Glad you had fun and found another bike that was fun to ride. #DontsellTheRoscoeshort

    Gotta see about the Eminent bikes now. Never heard of them before but they look very capable. Different look too. I like that.

    It is the tires. These wide tires really slow the roscoe down. I was running the Bontrager XR4 2.6 tires and when I switched to 2.4 maxxis tires and it made a big difference. Also the bar on that other bike is too wide as well as with the wrong backsweep and likely why you had numbness in your hand.

      @JohnC686 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I just switched the rear to a 2.5 and the difference was noticeable.

    I have XC raced both my Trek Marlin 6.8 (yeah I know theres no such thing but it has about every upgrade imaginable done to it) and my Trek Roscoe 9
    On the Marlin 6 with Bontrager line comp 30 wheels w 108 pt hub shod with 2.25 maxxis rekons setup tubeless and a rockshox judy gold up front the Marlin is way faster on single track courses that involve any amount of climbing
    The Roscoe 9 I love mine and it is a beast any time the trail even thinks about descending it feels so good but its not an XC bike
    I would choose a more xc oriented bike
    When you said you were taking the Roscoe I was saying ok Mattys gonna have an eye opener of an experience😆

      @99cobra2881 I'm interested in your comment. Why do you think the Roscoe suffers? The weight or the geometry or something else? I do a lot of single track around here, up and down, and I love that kind of riding(I also use to race, back in the 90s on a Trek 930, which I STILL ride). I'm considering getting a Roscoe 9, but I keep hearing things like "It's not a XC bike" or "It's not good for racing" but no one explains exactly why. You might be able to explain it to me.

      After coaching another NICA season Im more than happy to share my experiences of riding both the Marlin and the Roscoe 9
      My opinion since the initial post I made hasnt changed. The 2.8" wide tires of the Roscoe 9 take more watts than conpared to the 2.25" wide tires on the Marlin. This makes the bike slower to get around the course and the bikes weigh pretty close to each other. My marlin is 29# and the Roscoe is 31# so I feel thats not enough weight between the two to matter, sure there is different geometry but even that isnt enough of a difference either. I keep thinking it has to be the tires that just make the Roscoe seem slower and that it takes more effort to get the same speed out of the Roscoe vs the Marlin.
      Put the Roscoe on the downhill though or on anything super chunky and that's where the 2.8 tires will make up time.
      I ride my Roscoe to get in shape and then I ride my marlin to go fast
      I hope this helps answer your question and would be happy to elaborate further if you have more questions?
      Take care,
      Anthony

      Just went and double checked the Roscoes and they are 2.6 inch tires not 2.8 but they still make a difference

    Try some less aggressive tires and uphills are less draggy 😅 you can still go fast on it. I got a bike with similar geo and intention and on holiday I went up mountain for 2,5 HR 💪🏾 and got rewarded with 1,5 HR descent 😍 stamina, buddy, stamina 😎

    I'm a bit puzzled though - how does a 150 140 full suspension trail bike win the climbing award versus a hardtail on a smooth uphill?
    Did the Roscoe have more aggressive grippy slower tires on it?

    • @MattyActive
      @MattyActive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea the Roscoe had bigger tires on it but this bike just climbs really well, I can’t explain it either lol. Check out my newest video with the owner of eminent. I think he explains it really well
