    hiss-ter-ee-sis ;) Thanks for putting this out Mike, it's always great to see someone else's settings (and understanding the reasoning behind each.) Since you asked, I'd like to see how your settings would vary for mics like the Heil-PR40, Sennheiser MKH416, Neumann TLM103 and CAD E100sx. Also, are you saving each of these configurations as separate "Shows" in the RCP2 for easy switching/restoration of settings for each mic once dialed in to your liking, or doing that using some other method?

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the sounding out Jason. As always, appreciate your comments! At the moment I only have one 'show' so I'm still getting started with the full power of this at the moment. I'll surely use other shows as presets once I get different mics to use.

    WOW! You really took my advice and did this amazing video can’t wait to implement the settings and tweak them for my EV RE20 microphone. By the way, you might want to include in the title of this video the words “Microphone settings.“ I really wish you could do something for the EV RE20 though that would be even better. BUT, I love the way you explained everything and each setting in detail and what it actually does so I’ll be able to make custom adjustments for my RE20 Mic Thanks again for doing this greatly appreciated!

    Thank you very much for your settings sharing... For my part... I'm always trying to find how to be loud but controlled for a real brodcast sound... For the moment I'm happy but sometimes I have some uncontrolled peaks (ratio 4.5:1 and attack 0.23ms), I hope one day thay will add a real limiter (it was I was doing with a Symetrix digital processor soft compression followed by a limiter).

    • @MikeRussell

    You have killer audio and a killer setup. But, if I'm looking out for you, I'd recommend a new camera. Your autofocus is less than good and it's distracting and detracts from your videos overall quality. I have personally used the Panasonic AG-CX350, Panasonic S1H, and Fujifilm X-T4 and they all have great autofocus. But really, whatever camera is the newest in whatever brand you prefer will have the best autofocus.

    Hi Mike, GREAT VIDEO! I have a ElectroVoice RE20 and I used basically the same settings that you did and when I hear myself on the mic, it sounds good. But when I record using Loom or QuickTime, it seems to come in a bit harsh. with a slight clipping sound at times throughout my recording. Is there anything that I need to readjust to ease back on? Also, could you do a video showing what would be the best settings for the RE20 and other mics, if you have time to do a video on that? Let me know, thanks!

    • @MikeRussell

      The first thing is correct mic placement, the second is correct level settings for each mic and third I have a video on using a noise gate if there is any mic bleed which will help you.
      There's no automation that does what you're requesting, it's down to the operator to set it up correctly.

      @@MikeRussell So after listening to the video it definitely sounds better than the first rodecaster video. I think the only thing missing is that sort of epic sound that comes from the bass you use to have in your old chain. Dearest Mike, thank you for all the resources you put out there. You’re the man.
    Question: how would you feed audio from the Rodecaster into an ATEM mini pro mic jack AND audio monitors? I’ve been suggested a line level splitter, but I’m still unsure. Anything that come up to your expert mind?
    Cheers

    I appreciate your comments on this unit on this video and the previous one. Looks like RODE is doing a great progress with this new unit. I'd be up for buying one if there would be full MIDI integration with Ableton Live, but seems like they are paying attention to other DAWs. Oh well, I might have to wait a bit longer but so far it seems like a great solution for many people on the audio field. Cheers!

    Hello Mike, thanks for all your tips. I,m looking forward to your advice on using the RODECaster Pro 2 with the Blue Yeti Pro (via XLR) I,m hearing a small background noise when I.m silent. (And also see that on the dB level when I select mic 1.) I used your settings from this video, but I still hear for example my mouse clicking or when I’m standing here my foot move. I need to play also a bit, because it is now quickly cutting my voice after I stop speaking. Looking forward to your movies and your advice.

    Hi Mike, brilliant video. I've the PodMic & RCP2 and recorded as per your instructions. I'm recording for an audio book (my 3rd) and using Audacity. Without any post processing, it fails the ACX Check. Using your recommended setings (mic placement and 54dB), here's what it revealed verbatim: Peak level -12.70 dB Fail - (too low - may be overly compressed or too quiet); RMS level -33.70 dB Fail (too quiet - RMS must be in range -23 dB to -18 dB); Noise floor: -83.62 dB - Pass
    In past I used Zoom H4n Pro and fixed everthing in post (a PITA). I was hoping PodMic + RCP2 would equal less post-processing and more control on input. When I tried to clean up this recording in post, a change to one element let it pass ACX, while making a preiously passed element fail. Kinda frustrating. Any wise words of wisdom?Thanks!
    P.S. I noticed in the video you didn't have the Phantom (P48v) button on. Doesn't the PodMic require it? And funny how most of the comments are for non-PodMic setups!

    • @DannyBrownPodcasts
      @DannyBrownPodcasts ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you may have found this out already (comment was a while back), but PodMic is a dynamic mic so no need for phantom power. If you're using another interface that doesn't quite have the gain needed for PodMic, and are using a Cloudlifter or FetHead, then, yes, phantom power would be needed.

      For the Rode NT-1A, I recommend starting with a neutral setting on your RODECaster Pro 2 with some light compression and EQ adjustments to enhance your voice while maintaining a natural sound.

    Part of the reason why I’m requesting microphone settings for the RE 20 is because there’s so many videos out there for the SM 7B but very little for the RE 20 and quite honestly the RE 20 is a more widely used microphone and it would be great if you could do that. Again thank you for whatever you can do!
