      Update, I couldn't get Bluetooth phone calls to work well at consistently good volume going to caller, and the entire interface would lock up so badly that I had to bounce the power to get it back. I returned it. Had the latest firmware, which at the time I thought was free of such issues.

    For customization, It’d be interesting as well to be able to change the name and icon of each input (our own icons) and still have in the input settings a reminder that it corresponds to the physical input it was originally named after…
    Also I think they should made the RODE Central app compatible with Linux.
    Cheers mate, amazing video!

    Hi Mike, great video as always! I agree with you about the RCP 2...great unit with some room for growth. One note. I heard the latency in my headphones just as you did, initially. Now that I've updated the fw to the official 1.0.7 release I am not hearing it. Either I've gotten used to it and am not noticing it now or they fixed it.
    Thanks again Mike!

    Great review Mike.
    As an user of the original RCP, there are several things that I didn't like in the new unit.
    First of all the original RCP much more podcast oriented, not all around gear.
    It's bigger, with 8 faders not 6, and it's have the blessed TRRS input that the current is lacking.
    The new RCP 2 certainly have updated capabilities, but I still prefer the original.
    Good job Mike.

      Each to their own 👍

    • @photographiezautrement
      @photographiezautrement ปีที่แล้ว

      Faders are re-assignable in RCP 2. Do you always use ***8 faders*** simultaneously, that you must adjust in real time ?
      RCP 2 has 3 virtual faders. So 9 total faders (at this time)
      "certainly have updated capabilities" : yes, you can tell it like that :)
      The list of improvements and differences is really impressive (and in constant evolution)

    • @IdoDavid
      @IdoDavid ปีที่แล้ว

      @@photographiezautrement personally, I like physical measures instead of virtual.
      I understand your point.
      The original RCP has the correct sizes and proportion, the new one got smaller and slimmer.
      Again it's a matter of personal experience, and taste if you like.

    Lovely video Mike, I have the Rodecaster Pro 1 and a feature I would find great would be the ability to split and assign the pads to 2 different faders. So left and right pads are on separate faders so you can dip a bed to hear audio over it etc. Great content as ever!

    Toyed with buying one of these purely from reading reviews first, which I usually do. After watching this though, no brainer.
    I do a bit of everything from digital music production with various DAWs and Audio/Video packages (Adobe, Soundforge etc) to Techno mixing/DJ'ing (both old skool turntables and DJ controllers with spinning platters of course cos i'm old) and I simply love anything audio and video. I have the H5n you have as well as the H6n and a Roland. Same with mainly action cams too. I do really need a recommendation for a DSLR for a stationary setup (no, not pencils and paper) ;)
    Sadly, you won't find much of anything on my channel as I worry about the whole "12 years ago Jamie said this at the time, perfectly acceptable in context word, so now he must ne retroactively punished for it" although as the digits flip on my age counter I start to worry less and less about this due to career as some of the content I do produce can cover issues of privacy etc. Basically, love audio, video and music creation but hate the fact it can and is used as a stick to beat people with now, let alone the coming future.
    I just found your channel today. You got a new sub and made my bank balance take a multi hundred £ hit so cheers for that. In a way you also screwed yourself over because I don't have any money left to give you and pay the soon to be astronomical heating/food bills. Just good i'm one of those fussy eaters who, in human terms would probably be classed more like a mouse, nibbling at snacks when I find them (5 second rule).

    MIke.....I thought you'd be interested in my experience thus far with the RCP2. I purchased my first unit about 2 weeks ago and have had to return because the larger 'volume knob' is not operating. It's clearly off it's track and will hardly turn. The second unit I purchased arrived with several issues in assembly. First, the touch screen monitor wasn't properly seeded in its housing. I carefully centered it and pressed on it and it seems to be back in place. A second issue was the metal behind the faders rubbing on the faders when they were adjusted. Again, after pressing down on the entire plate in several places, it seems to have snapped back into position. The build quality on the RCP2 units is inferior to that of the RCP1 in my opinion. I love the new features but this thing feels like it will break if you sneeze at it the wrong way. As I told Rode in my email, I would gladly pay another $100-$200 USD for a "Pro" unit. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Also, please pass along to Rode if you have their ear.

    I just bought this and connected it up yesterday, and yes I'm amazed at what it can replace and it sounds GREAT!
    The features are amazing but just watching some other TH-cam streamers who stream and react to videos who don't wear headphones has left me a little perplexed, how do they do that with no feedback? If you're having guests then you'll need headphones to monitor, if you're streaming solo then it's a personal choice whether to monitor or not once you've set the levels although personally, I'd only feel comfortable if I was monitoring.

The fact that you can do additionnally podcasts/livestreams is more a sideeffect for them, but not mandatory..

    That's awesome that you were able to get that unit. I purchased the DBX 286x, 215s, 166xs, MOTU M4 and Cloudlifter, that I purchased 18 months ago. I looked at the RCP2 a few weeks ago and saw some very bad reviews on Amazon. So, I was very skeptical with the RCP2. I thought I was set with what I already have... of course until you did this thorough review. Also, I believe you sound a bit smoother and not so "punchy," like all your other vids sound like. But I'm sure with RODE's firmware updates, you'll be able to make the sound quality better. But it sounds really good so far. I just purchased a Open Box from a Top Brand reseller for $629.10. So I'm look forward to getting and trying out this unit. I hope in the near future you can do a video on how to tune a ElectroVoice RE20 or SM7B mic with the new Podcaster Pro II, like you did with that DBX 286s and Shure SM7B tutorial video. I know you've thought about this already, but many have an ElectroVoice RE20 and Shure SM7B. Part of the reason why RODE made a separate pre-set; although basically the same (with the exception of the db level from 51db for the RE20 and 55db for the SM7B), everything else is STILL set up the same. So if you can take the RE20 and SM7B (if you have them available to test and make improvements on), and do a custom vid on how to make it sound better, than as soon as you can put something out, YOU WILL BE THE FIRST on TH-cam to make this happen.
