  • The Samsung QN900D 8K Neo QLED TV is proof that Samsung has no intention of taking its foot off the gas when it comes to 8K TVs. As one of the last TV brands still making 8K TVs, Sasmsung all but has the category cinched up. Still, we were curious to see how Samsung's flagship 8K TV stacks up to its own flagship 4K TVs as well as the best of the best from competing brands. We've got some details on the Samsung Q900D's peak brightness, out-of-box color performance, and upscaling improvements right here!
Oh, and as a bonus: Samsung is tossing in a free 65-inch TV to anyone who pre-orders the QN900D within the first three weeks of its coming out, links below.

In my local store, the 83" OLED 8K Samsung tried to run a TH-cam 8K demo oin my request. It was HORRIBLE. Lots of compression artefacts. Is that the norm? Salesman blamed TH-cam compressing it too much, making 4K better than 8K.
I say a 75" NEo QLED 8K next to a 4K OLOED, also Samsung, playing the same demo. The cheaper 8K OLED just looked better to me. Perhaps not brighter, but more of that odd but fab depth perception. What'd your take on that price range? I kind of just with the 8K QLED came with sound through the screen, then I'd know what to get...

Caleb, great video (as usual). When you do a full review could you please go over the Multi-View capabilities, and if possible compare the QN800 vs. the QN90/95? There is very little information out there about the relative performance of the lower 8K TVs versus the higher 4K TVs. And regarding Multi-View, I mainly want an 8K TV because it allows Multi-View of at least 2 HDMI sources (compared to 1 HDMI + Phone, or 1 HDMI + Internal App on the 4K TVs). This may have changed overtime, but again, there is very little information out there.

QN 900D is by far the wiser choice.
Although both TVs will look equally as good with the setting set right, there are two problems with the oled. Burn-in IS still a factor, ( especially with TV stations placing the ridiculous moniker in the bottom left or right corner), and, the LG doesn't have the pixel density of the 8K. I'm opting for the samsung, planning on ordering this week, Lord willing

Great info! I've had their 65" QN800A (8K) for a few years (2021 or 2022) and still LOVE the picture. The upscaling is great. The sound is okay, not great, but I generally use our surround system when listening at higher levels anyway. No regrets over buying this TV at around $1900 at the time. I can only imagine what the QN900D delivers! Yikes. 75" or larger will be my step-up as our LR wall is large enough to handle a 100" TV if I had that disposable cash... My dear wife might dispose of me if I ever went that big, lol.

I feel like Samsung is being smart with continuing making 8K TV’s. Yeah, we aren’t getting much 8K content. Once the time comes for plenty of content Samsung will have mastered their tvs. Also there’s always a niche group of consumers who purchase the best of the best no matter what.

  • @davidt8438

I’m ready for a new tv and I’m ready for the 70”-77” variety but having had Samsung already (3 tv’s) I have experienced problems with the app’s that have been installed. After a mild storm one of the tv’s suffered a loss where none of the apps worked again. I made a work around by using my blue ray player and simply using its already installed apps. But I just feel like something was subpar with the hardware and it’s why the apps failed so easily. I’m going with Sony this time in hopes that maybe it’s a higher quality circuitry and I won’t have a problem if there’s a smallish storm this time around. This however looks like a nice set and I would get it if I didn’t have a choice.

Question : I just bought a 85" QN900C Neo QLED 8K Smart TV (2023) and used with a Mac mini 2023, M2, 1Tb, 32 ram as a media player. Few times the TV asked to prepare the best configuration for this arrangement. Afterwords I often experienced a black screen for few to five seconds very upsetting. Neither Samsung nor Apple took responsibility for this. After I adjusted the picture setting configuration and the power energy settings, the 8k configuration on Mac disappeared but also the irritating black screen. Now occasionally when I reconnect the mini hdmi cable with the tv hdmi, TV asks again to readjust its configuration with the Mac for the best possible picture. Should I do that again or stay away from it ? MUCH appreciate your input in this matter. Thank you …..

That was clearly answered at last year’s VE TV shootout where it wasn’t close between the OLED and LCD televisions. There’s nothing magical about a 8K LCD television. The only TV that truly resolves 8K resolution is LG’s 8k OLED model.
Sony’s upcoming LCD televisions with their new backlight control will perhaps bridge the gap between OLED snd LCD.

Only to find out that according to a Samsung Tech that model no longer supports the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certificate and due to that no options for setting up the NAS without some app. Sad since I've got three other Samsung's that I just switch to NAS Source and I'm off and running. Just a heads up for those that are looking at this TV and have their own Streaming system setup.(Time to find another 8K TV that still supports it)

8k tvs and Netflix and HBO Max want more money to show us higher than 1080p . This is why physical media is the way and when I say physical I am also including if you have a Nas that stores all your content and play off of that server.

From what I gather, this tv is X95L quality plus it being 8k and 4k 240hz compatible for gaming, but you give up Dolby vision. Sony will sitll be using the same XR processor they have used since 2021 on the tv's released this year, and won't be coming out with their own 8k model. I do want this tv, but I will wait at least 1 more year as Sony should be having a new processor for upscaling and new 8K tv to compete with Samsung. I thought they would this year, but they don't

8K - maybe after 5 years, at least. Movies in 8K with newer and better HDR tech, definitely more (most) content in true 8K and streaming in 8K. Till then I am sure 4K will be de facto standard and 2K / 1440p for gaming (i.e. with highest graphics settings).
