Yeah, I feel weird, because I'd actually prefer Google Glass to Apple vision Pro (only if I could control them with my voice, so I could use the navigation/apps while using my wheelchair) 🙈 I'd still buy it today, if I could afford it of course
Actually, they could now work with iPhone , listening music using some new tech speakers like those on vision pro, and the previous tech is already very good for receiving notifications. Google should restart the project for this glass as a Notification Center and a pocket camera , a pair of ear buds.

I recently pulled out my old pair to see if they still work and they do, but the functionality is limited as you pointed out in the video. I used to LOVE these as well and wish that I could still use them the way I used to 10ish years ago. I recently purchased the Meta/Ray Ban glasses and while they are great for capturing photos and video in a hands free way, they aren't nearly as useful as the original Google Glass(es) were. That's why I decided to dust mine off and try them out again. Just wish that the old functionality was still there.
I'm watching this after Apple Vision Pro came out and it just seems like a worse version of Google Glass. I remember hoping that in a few years the price for Google Glass would come down and it would have some sort of facial recognition. I have prosopagnosia and so it would be great to be able to look at someone's face and have Google tell me their name.
I just discovered that my old app can still be compiled on Android Studio Giraffe, with new Gradle and all. - I miss a community for programming those, some of Google's example apps are gone, some are horribly outdated.
Man man, Google should have kept pushing these out. They were way ahead of their time. They look really interesting. They should bring them back with a more slick design. They seem extremely useful.
Google got embarrassed when they first showed it so they quit showing it. They couldn't bare the memes, and maybe forgot about the huge potential of this. A more seamless integration of digital and physical life, that does not require your hands (and lap/desk) constantly.
Google (Alphabet) has no culture, it is a company with no visionary experience. Sundar Pichai is essentially an MBA who only focuses on Balance Sheets and Income Statements (that's all an MBA is, a course in Window Dressing).
Way ahead of its time. I believe this would have been the Watch of its time if the price was more in line. Now we're going full circle with the Meta Ray-Bans and Apple Vision Pro. $1,500 10 years ago was insanely expensive back then, if they were able to do it cheaper, I believe it would have been mass produced, and AR would be much more ahead today.
Honesty google was just ahead of its time with glass. If something like glass released today having never been seen before I'm sure it would have been more of a success.
Im surpirsed i wasn't able to find meta ray bans or rayban metas on your channel. because i feel like this is exactly what you were describing in this video (minus the convenience of a display)
I really wish they were usable nowadays :( I got them used just months before they pulled the plug... Was fun while it lasted. It was truly ahead of its time, I hope a new product comes out like this in the future- or some way to revitalize it (like spoof google server?).
thanks for the video, I really agree with all the points you make. I still own my original google glass explorer edition and did really enjoy using it (especially for stargazing!) - my friends and I were talking about the Apple goggles and it made me think how much less cumbersome the google glass seems by comparison. I can't imagine that it would be terribly hard for google to reboot this project and backend services but I don't know. My friends in the tech industry seem interested - imagine this thing with updated components at a more afforadable price point and a big national ad campaign just like you might do for the newest iPhone! I think society might now be ready for this kind of device which really was ahead of its time in a lot of ways. There were privacy concerns initially but now it seems commonplace for people to film practically everything they do with their phone so I think people will be less uncomfortable. Anyway, thanks again for the thoughtful video and cute photos of your kids!
Google realized that this product would ruin its business with Android because everything that is done from a mobile phone could be done from here. I believe that this product had a very high potential and even more so now with artificial intelligence.
Hello. I am very interested in this tech. I too, was hoping this would have more generations. I want to buy them, but for the price, I really just want to try them. I would also like to interact with the world this way. Question: Is that an old Delta computer sitting on the shelf behind you? I collect, I have an original IBM " luggable " if you're familiar. I just sold my TRS 80. I would love to hear back from you. I have so many questions. Is this tech cross compatible with any other tech?
I'm wanting to get a pair of smart glasses, unfortunately.... The only thing close have to be constantly plug into a device with WiFi or programs $175..... I'm thinking of the basic services are still useable than they do are a much better option..... Great video, thanks🎉
Do you have a walkthrough video on grtting these glasses to work to install Glass echo? Im hopong to get a pair working with some transcription app as im deaf and could really benefit from it
There was a HUD app for driving that showed direction, speed, and altitude. The Google Assistant would show and speak directions. I went to New Orleans for the first time, picked up my rented car, and asked the Assistant to get me to a specific address. It worked like a charm.
You are right , Google with everything in its ecosystem can come up with comprehensive solution to facilitate real life. One that resonated with me, for instance, was my recent travel to another country. There could be headset including glasses to help you in real time translation , reading signs and boards or if you are looking at the art piece or monument. The info projected to your glass or read your earbuds. The usage is endless for these glass while give you independence from screen phone.
Google hit a home run and walked back to the dugout thinking they struck out. This could have put them ahead of apple in the hardware department

Ridiculous how much we want a comeback from Google. Closest thing we ever had as wearable AR.
My problem is I can’t use the glasses in Taiwan to install the google map app.
I just discovered that my old app can still be compiled on Android Studio Giraffe, with new Gradle and all. - I miss a community for programming those, some of Google's example apps are gone, some are horribly outdated.
As much as I would like to think that people stayed away from these for concerns with privacy and security, it's obviously a fashion thing.
Very disappointed when they shut this down google would have been so far ahead with this tech by now I wish they would revisit this
Absence of image stabilization is obvious in the footages
Way ahead of its time. I believe this would have been the Watch of its time if the price was more in line. Now we're going full circle with the Meta Ray-Bans and Apple Vision Pro. $1,500 10 years ago was insanely expensive back then, if they were able to do it cheaper, I believe it would have been mass produced, and AR would be much more ahead today.
People are so strange, they hated this product back in the day meanwhile they are salivating over the apple knockoff of this product right now
Very weird! These look so much better too
@@roodick85 Exactly. They found google Glass goofy looking back in the day while the new apple products looks even goofier
Ones VR the other one is AR
This was ahead of its time.
this is what we nned, not more VR. give me glasses with dual 1080p cameras for 3d recording, wireless record to phone.
Honesty google was just ahead of its time with glass. If something like glass released today having never been seen before I'm sure it would have been more of a success.
The time is so ripe for another version of these
Im surpirsed i wasn't able to find meta ray bans or rayban metas on your channel. because i feel like this is exactly what you were describing in this video (minus the convenience of a display)
Can this thing use apps?
Not anymore. It’s no longer supported.
@@jeradtech thanks
I really wish they were usable nowadays :( I got them used just months before they pulled the plug... Was fun while it lasted.
It was truly ahead of its time, I hope a new product comes out like this in the future- or some way to revitalize it (like spoof google server?).
Just thought to myself, what ever happened to Google Glass ? Thanks for the video and update. It will take off when society catches up. 😉❤
Ok all this but what is this thingy on the right this glass thing
Apple goggle now is $3k 😂😂😂😂 Google was too early for their time
thanks for the video, I really agree with all the points you make.
I would love a modern version with the main camera the Google Pixel comes with.
TBH I couldn’t be less interested in having a camera connected to my head, the thing about Google glass thats interesting to me is the screen…
Have you looked in to the new AR glasses that are hitting the market? They have come some ways but need to be connected by a cable not Bluetooth
My glass works but it shows the wrong time . Is there at least a fox for that ?
Was speech to text built in?
And this was 10 months ago
After seeing the recent I/O presentation. I wonder if glass will make a comeback.
Meta rayban seems to be the secessor without the AR. Lot of comments forgot about the gen 1s or even nReal for AR
This was b4 its time I feel like it'll probably come back better in a couple yrs
Google realized that this product would ruin its business with Android because everything that is done from a mobile phone could be done from here. I believe that this product had a very high potential and even more so now with artificial intelligence.
Are they still for sale? Show the glass screens. Thx for vid
Google discontinued them.
@@jeradtech honestly it might have been too powerful and they decided to make it private. Wyt?
Great product I don’t understand why they don’t sell it and upgrade it, they was ahead of is time, maybe this was the problem
#revivegoogleglass
They just had to remove the camera and people would be fine with it. How was it for content consumption?
Do you have a walkthrough video on grtting these glasses to work to install Glass echo? Im hopong to get a pair working with some transcription app as im deaf and could really benefit from it
Google glass was ahead of its years. And now Tim Cock ten years after shows pretty much the same thing but bulkier, and calls it R E VO L U T I ON

Today we have the Meta Smart Glasses, they're practically the same, doesn't it?
not at all, google glass had a small display that you could see notifications with turn by turn directions, video calls, watch youtube videos etc
@@ladron6161 totally forgot about that.
We have the meta rayban glasses today. strange that not many people are mentioning them.
Yeah, but they are no more than an audio experience and a camera embedded in glasses. No visual display.
This really shouldhave made it. I can only imagine how big it was when google announced this
Can you still use the Google Glass as a HUD? This looks really cool and more interesting than a lot of the AR coming out now
Limited features still work but you won’t get navigation.
There was a HUD app for driving that showed direction, speed, and altitude. The Google Assistant would show and speak directions. I went to New Orleans for the first time, picked up my rented car, and asked the Assistant to get me to a specific address. It worked like a charm.
@@AlanUnis Nice!
The Billiant Monocle is the 2023 version of this. Open source and fully hackable heads up display.
But what if youŕe not a hacker? I like the design, but I am intimidated by the skill set required to make it functional.
Well tbh it sounds like you were only really using the camera in which case they are loads of new in glasses camera now available
I used it for much more as mentioned in the video such as for navigation and posting to social media.
Glass was completely ahead of it’s time 👓 ❤
You should look into getting the Meta Rayband glasses it’s pretty much just like google glass
