I have these Meta smart glasses as well. I mainly use them as sunglasses and headphones replacement. The few videos I have taken ended up on IG, but the recording angle does take getting used to. Definitely a cool concept. Hopefully the next iteration could center the camera or maybe have 2 cameras on the a side that gets stitched to get in post maybe.
When I first heard about them, I assumed there were 2 cameras and they would stitch the video together. It was disappointing to discover that wasn’t the case. But my overall impression of these glasses was positive and I’m pretty sure future versions will be even better.

I returned mine for the same reason, the size was too small. I went to the store to try the larger pair but they felt too big. Wish they had a in-between size.

I've just made a purchase. I probably will be returning them as well and that's pretty much because of the vertical recording. It's a bit sad that instead of teaching social media users the art of proper recording, (horizontal), they've catered to them and now we're looking at videos that are severely cropped.
I am a professional barber and I like to record my cuts and take pics of my work . This will be good for me because my phone is cool to use it just is so awkward
Honestly, these Ray-Ban Meta glasses are absolutely incredible! Sure, they have some quirks with the vertical video format and fit, but come on - they're basically AI-powered sunglasses that look totally normal! I’ve used those sticky nose pads before. If you sweat like when you go jogging or play basketball like I did, they fall off and don’t last long. Also, they are not as comfortable if you wear it all the time but if it’s for sunglasses where you don’t wear them all the time it would be ok
Great review, this helped me tremendously. I need to take a breath and wait for a better implementation of these I guess. The aspect ratio is a no-sale for me. I could put up with all the other cons but I’m old and my brain will never accept vertical videos. We have peripheral vision for a reason. I’m super excited by the idea of these glasses, now I just need to wait for a better implementation. I wish Apple had gotten to Ray-Ban before Meta.
Probably would've cost even more but yea that would've been cool. I just got them like 2 days ago and i kind of like them. Wish i had the translucent one to make them more indoor wearable but it was a gift. Not sure if maybe they updated some things since she did this review but i noticed i can record for a max of 3 minutes where she said only 60 seconds. So i have like 15 30 60 and 3 minutes. Cant remember if 15 is one but i think it is. Fits good. no complaints so far i guess.
I just returned mine. Worked great but then I realized I could t view the videos. Then all of a sudden when I would connect to them, audio wouldn't work! I tried for hours to get them to work. I returned them after 6 hours. It worked great for about a hour and a half until I put it in the case to charge, then it was done. No more audio for music or phone calls.
I got these when they first came out, and ever since then I have not been able to import more than 1 file at a time. It's been extremely annoying because if I take more than 1 photo I'm doomed to have to factory reset my glasses. I've tried everything, contacting support of both meta and ray-ban but they haven't been able to do anything to help me.
I think there are two issues to consider: 1) people need to give some thought to which items in their lives they wish to have "connected" or "smart" and which ones they do not. If you are wearing your glasses every waking moment, it might make more sense than if you wear them occasionally. or if you set your phone on the charger when you come home, it might be more useful to have some of the functions on your glasses if you have them on when your phone is not within reach. 2) is the configuration of the smart item such that it works the way you do. the flashing light when you take a picture or record a video, the video recording limit, using a Facebook account, etc. if you have to change to meet the item, you might just do it on your phone where you don't have the same restrictions, especially if you would have your phone with you anyway. personally, I feel that some of the features were set up to avoid some of the complaints/concerns about google glass, which is understandable, but a camera, any camera should be a dumb input device, and if people who construct a product place arbitrary constraints on it for the good of society, unless I agree, then I become less interested. too many device manufacturers set rules on how a product you buy can be used. also, I tend to have my phone on me except when I am at home and don't wish to be disturbed, and I have my phone with me as much as I have my glasses on, so this doesn't really appeal to me. it might be useful if someone confronts you in public and you want to have video in case they assault you, but the video recording limit and the idiot light makes it useless for that. otherwise, it could actually be a good safety feature: walking to your car at night, turn it on, if you get home safely, delete the video; if you don't, maybe it helps the police find the person who did it. so if you are some influencer, or content creator, if might make sense. However, I think my glasses make me look smart, but don't need to be smart in themselves. not, at least, how these are configured.
I did the same thing by rushing and ordered the wrong size. Ending up finding the lenscrafters they sent it to near me and finding out i needed the larger size. Hopefully my glasses be here tomorrow, it was cheaper going into the store and using insurance for prescription
great video on things that matter. 1 thing I didn't hear about that's also important to me is, stabilization . The video you have doesn't have much movement but if you're out running or doing something active, how is the video? Also....what happens if you get caught in the rain?
I just bought the narrow frames on Lenscrafters and they're giving me a headache too. I thought it would fit me because I have what I thought was a slim head. Guess I thought wrong. On the way to return them to try on/compare the average and wide frame.
I wouldn't be surprised that your perceived shooting angle through the glasses is an adjustment of parallax. You may not be aware which eye of yours is dominant. Because one of your eyes is dominant. Stick your hands out in front of you arms length forming a frame with your thumbs connecting and your pointer fingers up like the goal post uprights at a football game. Spot one object in the middle in the center of your uprights. The test to know which eye is dominant is the one that, when you close the other it disappears. So if your left eye is dominant and you close the left eye then these object in the uprights of your field of vision that you focused on will be on outside of the uprights. When you switch to the other eye, the dominant eye, then the object is seen in the center of the uprights.. Another reason why aim could be difficult is because your not 100% guaranteed the camera is mounted perfectly parallel to the axis of the forward true vector of view. If it's off by a tiny amount, it'll never be sighted in properly in the same way as a guns mounted telescope has to be adjusted to match the barreling of the weapon. For a person that needs reliable precise predictable field of view for the purposes of making money, they are mostly convenient but have a way to go to be high quality to use all the time. For me, since I wear glasses my whole life except for sleeping & showering, I would need multiple pair to get thru a typical day when a single charge lasts just 4 hours. I'd have to have at least two pair . One to be in use. The other charging ready to be swapped in when the battery is low.
That's a very good point about the dominant eye. re: the 4 hour charge, this is why I mentioned the slow startup time. I turned my glasses off periodically during the day to conserve battery life and take advantage of using the glasses normally without the "smart functions." For those of us who might use them for prescription purposes or wear them all day long, it would be nice if there was not only a longer battery life, but also a faster startup time.
My right eye is dominant, but the Ray Ban smart glasses have the camera on the left side. I think it would be good if the glasses had two variants: one with the camera on the left and the other with the camera on the right (the recording light will be on the other side). Then people can choose the variant that matches their ocular dominance.
I really wanted to purchase these, but my prescription is too high so my lenses are too thick, which may warp the electronic cables inside. I hope the next gen ones are made for people like me.
As of June (I believe) they got the headliner with a low bridge option and a good chunk of these concerns where update. like I can record up to 3 minutes and they are talking about increasing the time on them as well as a new update to help visually impaired people.
@@Gemini_Connect via WiFi? This whole time I thought it was instant via Bluetooth until I went to sunglasses hut today and she told me it needs a WiFi connection. Not a single review mentioned that 😞. Was so excited then it turned to be old school disposable camera style.
Are you able to use them instead of your camera phone for live streaming on TikTok not for recording but only for live streaming so people can see how you see things from eye view? If so how long does the batteries last in the sunglasses to maintain the streaming?
just order a few hours ago wayfarer matt black. But im actually about to order another pair in a different style! and make my decision from there. thanks for the video!!!
I use my RayBan Meta more than my GoPro and Phone combined and also they replaced my Airpods at the gym, running etc. I can play with my kid and capture moments without using my hands.
I appreciate your review. I have been thinking about getting these Rayban Metas for the longest time now and its mainly because of the price. 400 dollars after taxes is a bit of a stretch especially if there are other options out there that are cameras like the dji osmo pocket 3 or the sony zv-1f. I will most likely buy these and see how I feel in a week or so.
I can't believe I missed that...twice 😅 I think it's because I was trying to keep the packaging intact knowing there was a possibility I'd return the product.
I get that, I still haven't touched the cleaning cloth in my packaging. Lol. I also understand your pain about the fit, thus the adhesive nose pads modification. I kept my Wayfarers though, I use it mostly as an earphone. My only gripe is the battery life. Listening to audiobooks, it only lasts 4 hours for me. After that it's just a regular Rx glasses for me. 🤓
Great review! I still plan on getting a pair to try for myself. I hope to get a prescription pair. I wanted a pair of ray ban eyeglasses, and all the other things are just extra cool things I can use.
I want to thank you for your video, when I want to buy something I research a lot. Your video was the one that help me make my decision to buy and the color. 😊
I am on the fence about these because of things I've heard about the video angle, just like you said. I wanted to use them on roller coasters and be hands free on rides but only having vertical and 60 seconds seems like a deal breaker. I do post shorts but still focus on long form content.
When these can shoot horizontal video, I’d have no problem recommending them. But I don’t think they’re quite there yet, especially if you’re primarily a long form content creator.
Great review. I could live with the vertical videos, but I'd rather have a choice, and if not, it should be horizontal video, or maybe square, but not vertical. Anyway what made my mind was the single camera on one side that doesn't shoot straight. That would drive me properly mad. Everything else looks fantastic, I'll be waiting for the next iteration, and I hope they'll fix these issues.
I saw a lot of great reviews on those. But I’m really curious about the social impact, whether people are staring at your cameras while talking to you or some people come to you about shutting down cameras etc. (I fully get that a phone does this too, but wonder if people are accepting cameras on glasses). It’s my only concern for not getting it.
I have the older model RayBan Smart Sunglasses, and it sounds like there's not much of a difference. I really wanted the shiny chalky pair, but I'm disappointed that they're practically the same for that price.
I'm an interface designer, and I'd like to get a pair of glasses to take a video of me using various interfaces like parking meters and grocery store checkout systems. I don't want to use them for any meta things or bluetooth or anything like that / and really - I'd like to have that 100% turned off. I'm not being that sneaky... but it would be good to blend in! The other options are pretty obviously video classes. Can they take horizontal video? Is the video pretty close to what you're actually seeing enough - or would I always have to look a little to the right? Do you think these would be a viable option for me?
I just received my prescription pair of Wayfarers and I have the same issue being Asian and have a low nose bridge, I just ordered grips like the ones you listed in the video so they’ll probably determine if I keep or exchange for the Low Nose Bridge or return them all together. Also they squeeze my head too despite me having a small head.
Great Job with the review, very DTE. Is head shrinking still a thing? I've been thinking of having my head shrunk so i can wear normal sizes too. I hate having the arms of my glasses press into the side of my head cutting off circulation, tis like instant nausea.
I’ve never heard of head shrinking, but if it’s real…not gonna lie, it could be kinda nice. I struggle so much either way finding glasses that fit my wide face.
Thanks for the honest review. I noticed that you normally wear prescription glasses, what about the Meta Ray Ban ones? Did you order them with prescription glasses? Greetings from Kuwait
Thanks for the review; I like the idea of the glasses, but I think I’ll wait for when the camera is in the center and the horizontal option gets added also.
Cool stuff with a ton of caveats. Seen this before. What would really sell is a quest three experience in the Ray Ban format. Mixed reality and clarity would be the best.
I have them I’m not a big fan of the battery being four hours they die relatively quick. Also the lense was loose went into rayban say they added lense liner still loose they feel like they are gonna break idk I may be returning mine as well
Thanks for such an Indepth review.. its Very Helpful... Just a Quick question .. this large size itself seems big and loose on the nose and eye side... so wouldnt the Xtra large size be more huge on those places and fit all the more loose ?
Great review! I completely agree with you on the aspect ratio and was not excited about the camera quality of version 1. I was looking hard into this version but your review has helped me save some money. It would be cool if they would stitch the left and right camera together to make ever a square asset ration that could be cropped in post. maybe in 2k, 4k preferably. but at what price $$$
@Gemini_Connect that is great. I was on the fence about getting the glasses, but that question was holding me back and I could not find a consistent answer. I use the same brand you showed in the video, but a 1.0mm
My experience is opposite yours. Comfortable fit, fast connection, simple settings, I guess I already expected the aspect ratio, video length and privacy stuff from my own research. They do everything I expected flawlessly.
That’s great to hear! I know plenty of folks who have had a positive experience with these glasses. I just hope they offer wider sizes - if they did, I’d be enjoying these a lot more!
I’ve also heard that they are not water proof or resistant. As a runner I would need some that are at least resistant… bc I sweat of course… what are your thoughts?
Great video. I was humming and hawing about getting a pair of these and this video helped me make up my mind (to hold off for now). The camera is the biggest draw for me and the leaning head and aspect ratios are dealbreakers for me. Thanks for making this video.
i have been watching alot of reviews and i believe your critique made me to make a decision, you did broke it down up to the size wide, nose padding type with or without bridge specially for Asian type 😀 thank you❤ and when it comes to OS maybe i will wait for upgrade version.
I’ve heard that the Headliner style is better suited for broad faces compared to the Wayfarer, which I tried. Unfortunately, the Headliner wasn’t available when I was shopping around.
Now that you have done the research can you get the wider sizes? I too have a wide face and sunglasses are hard to fit. I was told I need 56 to 58 lens width. Is that size available ?
One thing I want to bring up is that I don’t think your issue is as much about them being wide enough as you think. You said the Erika Metal’s are fine, but those are actually 132mm hinge to hinge, where the L Meta’s are 136.8. I think it’s more the inflexible of the injected plastic used to make them, especially opposed to the flexibility of metal. I personally do not like glasses with plastic/acetate arms, I try to only use titanium, but I have a few pairs with acetate fronts attached to titanium arms. TLDR, they should be made of a better material at least where they’re able to.
I wish the camera was in the middle and not on the side. Maybe they can make them have a camera in both corners. This is also why I have hesitated on any of the camera glasses no matter what brand.
I was on the fence about buying these. Thank you for saving me money. The least I could do was share some of my savings for the always well produced content.

Not sure if maybe they updated some things since she did this review but i noticed i can record for a max of 3 minutes where she said only 60 seconds. So i have like 15 30 60 and 3 minutes. Cant remember if 15 is one but i think it is. Fits good. no complaints so far i guess.
What’s the ETA on gen 3? Sounds like it may be the huge leap that occurred from the original, to this, and hopefully addresses the noted shortcomings.
I think there are two issues to consider:
1) people need to give some thought to which items in their lives they wish to have "connected" or "smart" and which ones they do not.
The cleaning cloth is in the box. It definitely comes with the glasses
Someone mentioned it was packaged with the manual. That’s what I get for not reading the manual 😅
I got the standard too cz I thought the large is BIGGER glasses which would not work cz I have a smaller face. And now my head hurts.
True that! That's what I was thinking, I need a 2nd pair to last throughout the day listening to audiobooks.
My right eye is dominant, but the Ray Ban smart glasses have the camera on the left side.
I think it would be good if the glasses had two variants: one with the camera on the left and the other with the camera on the right (the recording light will be on the other side). Then people can choose the variant that matches their ocular dominance.
@@iMacmatician Or put the camera in the center, over the nose piece. Parallax problem solved.
I really wanted to purchase these, but my prescription is too high so my lenses are too thick, which may warp the electronic cables inside. I hope the next gen ones are made for people like me.
A cleaning cloth IS included. It’s in the packaging outside of the case built into the box. You may have overlooked it.
As of June (I believe) they got the headliner with a low bridge option and a good chunk of these concerns where update. like I can record up to 3 minutes and they are talking about increasing the time on them as well as a new update to help visually impaired people.
Quick question. When you take a photo, do they instantly load to your phone or do you have to wait to get on WiFi before it loads to your device?
It’s not instant - requires connecting the glasses to your phone.
@@Gemini_Connect via WiFi? This whole time I thought it was instant via Bluetooth until I went to sunglasses hut today and she told me it needs a WiFi connection. Not a single review mentioned that 😞. Was so excited then it turned to be old school disposable camera style.
I have a feeling meta is holding back the recording capabilities for the next gen of meta glasses as a selling point.
It's more than a feeling, no Boston band
Are you able to use them instead of your camera phone for live streaming on TikTok not for recording but only for live streaming so people can see how you see things from eye view? If so how long does the batteries last in the sunglasses to maintain the streaming?
The 60 second camera is why I returned mine 😡Other wise they were cool
It's three minutes now they just changed it the other day
@youtubei.freiselancelive478
It is??
Yep, It just changed about a week ago
@@youtubei.freelancelive478 I seee soooo pumped I get mine this week toooo lucky timing haha
Does it just “ding” so you know it stopped recording? And u then have to say Hey Meta record … to continue??
just order a few hours ago wayfarer matt black.
I agree 100% about the price - if I’m gonna pay that much I need to be completely satisfied with them and in my case there were too many compromises.
The cleaning cloth is inside the box where the manuals are. 😊
Niiice video thanks!! What's your camera set-up?? love the stick and the camera/s?! :)
Are you not able to adjust the temples of the glasses slightly with heat just like a regular pair of glasses?
I am on the fence about these because of things I've heard about the video angle, just like you said. I wanted to use them on roller coasters and be hands free on rides but only having vertical and 60 seconds seems like a deal breaker. I do post shorts but still focus on long form content.
When these can shoot horizontal video, I’d have no problem recommending them. But I don’t think they’re quite there yet, especially if you’re primarily a long form content creator.
this review helps me. I was interested, but these flaws are a dealbreaker for me too
Great review.
Well, since you posted this video, have there been updates to enhance the operation of these glasses? Have they gotten better? Thanks.
I returned them, so I don’t have a pair to do an update. But I have heard there were firmware updates.
@@Gemini_Connect
Thanks
Glad you spoke on the nose pads. That and the frame sizing. The frames were too wide for my head.
I'm wondering if the video upload to TH-cam won't be able to use adsense as the ratio is vertical and not horizontal? Does anyone know?
I don’t think video orientation/aspect ratio affects the ability to turn on Adsense.
@@Gemini_Connect I thought that the video in vertical was uploaded as a short and not a normal vidro
this video helped a lot, thank you !
love from Greece!
Great review. I think I can overcome your obstacles and still enjoy them. They look great and for the price are great.
Sooooo did you keep them and if so how do you like the update?
I returned them.
How do you get your prescription filled? I don’t want to give them out for days.
Cool stuff with a ton of caveats. Seen this before. What would really sell is a quest three experience in the Ray Ban format. Mixed reality and clarity would be the best.
I can’t find the exact pair online, do they no longer sell this style?
Try glasses ear grips. They slide on the end of the glasses arm and hook behind the ear. Stops the glasses from sliding off your nose.
Thanks for this review. Very thorough and helpful!
Hi there, do the nose grips block or stop the glasses from sitting flush in its charging case? Thanks!
I was worried about this, but no, they don’t. And I used the thickest 1.8mm nose pads too.
@Gemini_Connect that is great. I was on the fence about getting the glasses, but that question was holding me back and I could not find a consistent answer. I use the same brand you showed in the video, but a 1.0mm
They should put the camera in the middle. Recording slightly to the right has to be annoying when you check & dont have the shot framed right.
I think they thought about this. I think Ray Ban already had this style and having a camera in the center kinda looks like a cyclops.
I just got a pair and love them. I guess they improved them since you had yours bc now they allow u to record up to 3 minutes.
Have you seen the new low bridge fit ones now ?
Hi how long does it take for the 3 min video to upload to the phone? or is it immediate?
It uses wifi between the phone and the glasses. Doesn't take too much time. You can even program it to do it automatically while charging at home.
They really need to just add a firmware update that lets you shoot 16:9. What a boneheaded move.
I tried on the large brown Wayfarers and the black. The black (shiny) frames were definitely wider. Try the black frames
Interesting..that would be super annoying if the widths vary by color.
Incredibly useful info! Thanks!
at the start it wasn't even 60secondes recording, they raised to 60 secondes during the spring
I think the limit has increased even more after a recent firmware update.
Are the brown ones more noticable because they have camera amd smart functions versus the black ones? Opinions?
Lol yeah... If you're a creeper, go with the black... 😅😅 You sicko 😅
I’ve also heard that they are not water proof or resistant. As a runner I would need some that are at least resistant… bc I sweat of course… what are your thoughts?
Yeah, I wouldn’t get these wet. The speaker/mics are right near your ears.
Great video. I was humming and hawing about getting a pair of these and this video helped me make up my mind (to hold off for now). The camera is the biggest draw for me and the leaning head and aspect ratios are dealbreakers for me. Thanks for making this video.
Many thanks for being honest about the bad and the good 🌹🌹. ... sponsored people are going crazy about them as they are perfect !!!
How about the stabilization? Do you get like a bouncing video when you walk?
it's surprisingly good
@@erasmuslongfellow9713 Thank you.
Genius. Can you let us know what you are using on the bridge? My nose bridge makes glasses like this slide down like a kid at a waterpark
It’s linked in the description. Gecko grip, or something like that. Works super well!
i have been watching alot of reviews and i believe your critique made me to make a decision, you did broke it down up to the size wide, nose padding type with or without bridge specially for Asian type 😀 thank you❤ and when it comes to OS maybe i will wait for upgrade version.
Is that size available ?
nope ..53 is max .. try it in one of the retail stores
The cleaning cloth is in the box it came in with the instructions.
Thanks for the video, super helpful!
May I ask how tall you are just to get a gauge of how wide your face is? (Hahah no offense intended of course!)
5’3”
I'm wearing my Meta Ray Bans as I'm watching your video and when you said "Hey Meta, take a photo" mine did too. Of you! How Meta is that?!
I wish the camera was in the middle and not on the side. Maybe they can make them have a camera in both corners. This is also why I have hesitated on any of the camera glasses no matter what brand.
I wanted landscape video recording but it only records in portrait.
