Have you covered the movie Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale? It came out in 2004. It may be a nice edition to your Halloween watching.
So you watched the Director's Cut. The Cinematic version ends with Drake turning into Blade and then at the Autopsy back to himself. Much better ending imo.
The DVD I have actually has the extended ending where Drake actually stays dead after changing back with a bit of extra narration from Ryan Reynolds which cuts to that final shot of Blade riding off on his bike. The original ending I thought was a bit confusing because I thought Blade was always at the morgue and he went back to hunting vampires again shortly after.

Blade Trinity was David S. Goyer's 2nd film as director. He was the main screenwriter of the entire trilogy. Blade debuting in The Tomb of Dracula comics (1973) was to be one of many foes for The Prince of Darkness himself. It was only right that the villain of this film would Dracula as Blade's ultimate challenge. The original vision was post-apocalyptic with Dracula's return to power. Instead it was kept modern and added characters (Nightstalkers) from those comics. Dracula/Drake was depleased with how vampires were more loved than feared, like they weren't a threat anymore and i liked that. The extended cut is a bit better than the theatrical version plus 2 alternate endings that were interesting. Ryan Reynolds as Hannibal King was much different than the comics and behind the scenes, the Deadpool character was actually mentioned to RR and the rest was history. Jessica Biel aka Wifey of J.T. as Abigail Whistler was based on Rachel Van Helsing from the comics as an similar legacy connection. Still has the tone of the other films. Less wire work, more hardcore fighting and everyone is in amazing shape for this one. The storyline is cool, score/soundtrack are both good. But it's seen as the worse for a reason. It all began behind the scenes. Controversy with how the film was written and directed. Also leading to on-set altercations, contractual and legal battles with the studios, Wesley's disapproval with the process of it being made. The movie didn't flop, but even some audiences weren't pleased neither. Blade had the first-ever Marvel original series for mature audiences, pre-Netflix. Ran 1 season (13 episodes) om Spike tv, set in the same universe as the trilogy following the events of Trinity. My favorite piece of trivia about this movie: Jessica Biel became an Olympic-class archer and wound up destroying a VERY expensive camera. They set up for her to shoot straight at the camera with a shield in place, with a 2-inch (≈5cm) hole for the lens, and told her to aim at the hole since there was no way she'd hit it. Then she did. That take is on the blooper reel, you see her loose, then the image gets screwy, but you can make out her slapping a hand over her mouth in horror.
Ryan Reynolds is Ryan Reynolds in pretty much every movie in my opinion. The fact that that's similar to Deadpool is a coincidence. He is well cast as Deadpool.
Fun fact. Payton Oswalt Who played the “virgin” guy in the team actually goes on to play quintuplets in the MCU agents of shield, a troll in eternals, and even some animated characters like M.O.D.O.K and uncle Ben.
Ryan said that because of this character is why he was sought after to be Deadpool. And then after that he read several Deadpool comics and fell in love with the character.
A lot of us movie nerds recognized Ryan Reynolds' potential for Deadpool after his feature film, Van Wilder. Oh, I definitely recommend the film The In-Laws as well.
That's because RR grew up reading and idolizing DP. His own personality developed that same snarky raunchy humor. RR wasn't the best actor for DP, he was The Only actor in Hollywood that could give us a true comic accurate DP.

Hi Mary, I think you'll agree, this movie had a lot of good ideas with very few of them executed very well. The director, David S. Goyer was the primary screenwriter on all three films, but this was his first directing gig. Legend has it that Wesley Snipes was pretty upset that he was sharing the spotlight with two characters that were being set up for a spin-off film. At the time, Ryan Reynolds said that he never met Wesley Snipes, but he worked with Blade. Wesley was apparently a total asshole to him the entire time and never broke character. It was also said that Snipes was openly revolting against David Goyer and refused to come out of his trailer unless it was for essential close-ups. The bare minimum required to fulfill his contract. Snipes' stunt double was in pretty much every scene that wasn't a close-up. This may have negatively affected the final film, given the star was refusing to co-operate. Snipes refused to promote the film as well, and you can tell this all must be largely true because he was conspicuously absent from allmthe special features on the DVD. It's amazing that Ryan Reynolds asked Snipes to reprise the role of Blade, but it shows Ryan isn't at all petty. In press for Deadpool & Wolverine, Snipes and Reynolds are acti g likenone of this happened. Clearly trying to resuscitate Snipes' flagging career. There was just too much evidence surrounding the release of Blade Trinity to support the revisionist history they are peddling now.

Guillermo del Toro should’ve directed this movie as well. The more I see Ryan Reynolds in older movies the more I realize he just has been Deadpool without the costume this whole time. Drake wasn’t really a villain he was just pissed about being woken up
Ryan was in a ton of comedies during this time, and this wise-cracking troublemaker was basically his character in all of them. He's said he's been a fan of Deadpool for a long time, and he pushed so hard to play the character and to get a legit Deadpool movie made. So, his portrayal of Deadpool is just the culmination of all that, and, while I understand when folks make the comparison between his portrayals of Wade and Hannibal, it's all just Ryan being Ryan.
Try to find the Behind The Scenes for this movie. Ryan buffed up for this movie instead of the usual RomCom movies. This is his first action movie. He definitely paid back Wesley Snipes in the Deadpool3 movie. As for Jessica Biel, she had basic archery training for this movie but she did so well that she might as well be considered at expert level after filming this movie.
Mary, always enjoy your analysis and you cited what a lot of folks felt about that movie at the time. Ryan Reynolds can overwhelm scenes with his personality. I read somewhere Wesley Snipes would occasionally be annoyed by it. I notice you haven't reacted to "National Lampoon's Van Wilder (2002)", Reynolds' breakout movie. You should; it shows he was the way he is right out of the gate, love him or not. Great reaction Mary!
According to a past interview with Reynolds, this was the film when an exec told him if they ever make a live action Deadpool, he is the one that should play Deadpool
i guess the reason to choose to be a familiar is the same reason as the 2nd movie - better to be a pet than the cattle.....also its cool they added the mouth feature from film 2 on drake, as the last film the top guy was experimenting with dna - so he must have activated the genes to create the mutated mouth. love it.
Ryan Reynolds learned about the character Deadpool from a rival executive who sent him Deadpool comics. The executive told Reynolds that he was the only actor who could play Deadpool if a movie was ever made.
I watched, "7th Heaven", too. Ruthie was my favorite. You should check out, "The Fantastic Four: The Rise Of The Silver Surfer". After, "Daredevil", Jennifer Garner had her very own stand up, "Elektra", film. Ryan Reynolds did three superhero movies. This was his first. I didn't even know there was a different version of this movie the one I saw is when Drake turns into Blade to help him and then turns back into Drake when they go to cut him up
36:08 The "last gift" Drake said to Blade after their fight was to shapeshift into him so Blade could escape while the cops think they captured Blade; it happened in the rotating shot of them. In the autopsy room there should have been a moment when the doctors touched a patch of skin and it made Drake transform back to his default human form to confirm what happened. (According to another comment there's different endings depending on which release you watch)
You're not alone! This is not the kind of vampire movie where we need Timothy f***ing Chalemet as the king of vampires haha. I think people felt intuitively that the writing wasn't quite there and blamed it on the actor.
the human blood bank thing was originally going to be on the first movie and they even show one for a quick second at the very beginning before the rave scene
Whilst Drake is not an interesting antagonist, I think they actually did a smart thing by not having the long-hair, long-features, seductive type of look for him. This works better in a modern setting, and he's a shape-shifter anyway, so a 'look' is just what he prefers at the time.
The best thing about Blade 3 is the fact that Jessica was doing a stunt shot at a 50k camera that had protective glass with a two inch square opening. I don't remember the actual distance but I know it was a respectable kill shot
"The bodies would be rotting at this point." It takes more than a few minutes for bodies to decompose. She should be able to smell the blood, though. Sometimes, people lose control of their bowels and bladder when they die, so she'd be able to smell that if it happened.
If you look the end scene when Blade was laying down, "dead", and open his eyes, you will realize that it was made digitally (his eyes). The actor didn't want that ending and they added it in anyway.
I also watched this film blind without reading anything about it being bad because I actually thought this was ok when I saw it. It wasn't until afterwards that I also learned that not only was Weasley Snipes difficult to work with (as he didn't get along the director and even refused to come out of his trailer so he could get high on weed) but he also didn't get along with Ryan Reynolds as he was also racist towards him at one point, though its amazing that the two actors actually made up again 20 years later when it came to Deadpool & Wolverine.
Fun fact: Dracula is also a Marvel character (obviously based on the legend) and many versions dont look the classical version. In this movie they wanted one that looked like a warrior, and not the "Count" look
You should read up on all the drama that took place on and off set. The stories are wild! Wesley was stoned all the time and he came to blows with the director, David Goyer. He had to hire bodyguards to protect himself from Snipes. There is so much more.
He seemed evil at the end because it was actually Dracula shapeshifted into Blade. They do a bad job at relaying that info though. So Dracula still alive.
I can't recommend enough checking out Patton Oswalt's article about the making of this movie, it is a wile read. My favourite is the bit where Wesley refused to open his eyes in one scene so they had to ad CGI eyes opening.
The reason he doesn't resemble what we know as Dracula is because this one originated in Mesopotamia, instead of the usual Romania. Instead of a vampire of class, Drake is more a vampire who was a warrior. Hence, why he's so disgusted by what the vampires of the modern era have become.
In this movie at the ending this movie was the last but know we know were he was going until the TVA toke him it’s why there was no more movie of blade

He seemed evil at the end because it was actually Dracula shapeshifted into Blade. They do a bad job at relaying that info though. So Dracula still alive.
“And now they call him Drake”
Mary you should watch the tv show Prison Break. The Dracula just reminded about it as he’s it it. I remember it being a good show
I can't recommend enough checking out Patton Oswalt's article about the making of this movie, it is a wile read. My favourite is the bit where Wesley refused to open his eyes in one scene so they had to ad CGI eyes opening.
Definitely watch Snipes in Demolition Man. And it has Sylvester Stallone in it too
You need to watch Convoy Whistler was really young
The song is the theme from "A Summer Place" (1959).
The familiars tattoo themselves so that vampires no not to feed on them. Blade said that in the first movie.
I still think the dog scene with Ryan Reynolds & Paul Levesqe (triple h) was the best scene in this movie
Amazing reaction Mary, I hope you react to "Ghost Rider" next 🤞
The reason he doesn't resemble what we know as Dracula is because this one originated in Mesopotamia, instead of the usual Romania. Instead of a vampire of class, Drake is more a vampire who was a warrior. Hence, why he's so disgusted by what the vampires of the modern era have become.
In this movie at the ending this movie was the last but know we know were he was going until the TVA toke him it’s why there was no more movie of blade
Drake was a straight savage, haha. Love this movie.
