A lot of people sleep on the fact THIS movie actually prompted modern marvel movies to really take off. They usually will credit Tobey's Spider-man, but that would never have been made without this movie convincing marvel they could do it.

@@andrewburch1671 the general public didn't know Blade was a comic book character, but Hollywood producers and studiio execs did. Blade is the movie that proved superheroes other than Superman & Batman had potential to be big box office hits, it made Marvel a valuable brand in the movie industry. Blade's success is why the X-Men and Spider-Man movies got greenlit.

Blade is a Marvel movie, but it didn't start the superhero movie trend, merely financed it. To the average moviegoers, it wasn't a superhero movie, just a standard vampire movie where the protagonist had a bit of an advantage by being part vampire himself.
X-men is what opened the door for the current era of superhero movies, and then Spider Man really got the ball rolling on costume accurate comic book adaptations.

Gotta remember the genre it's in. Superhero movies were cartoony as hell back in the 90s. This very much marks the point where they started getting bit less goofy and bit more gritty. It was as much a departure from the superhero AND vampire movies of the day, as Deadpool was from the MCU.

The scene depicts lead character Matt Helm (played by Dean Martin) lying shirtless on what appears to be a rotating sofa along with 10 scantily-clad women, But it has recently become more of a thing. A lot of the “modern hip urban vampires hiding among us” trope owes its origin to Anne Rice’s novel “Interview With The Vampire” and its numerous sequels. Before that, nearly everything (at least in visual media) was a Dracula knock-off.
Also, I’m quite sad that N’Bushe Wright (the hot doctor) never returned for any of the Blade sequels. I thought they had good chemistry and would have liked to see them get together. But apparently, the producers were dead set against Blade having any romance subplots.

I don't think X-Men or Spider-Man get greenlit without Blade showing there was life in the genre. To think. this movie exists because they wouldn't let Wesley make a Black Panther movie.

Sanaa Lathan was good in this as Wesley's Mom. Thanks for reacting to this classic Marvel film guys. I wish more reactors would. In my opinion, this is Wesley's best film. Mary needs to watch him in Passenger 57, Drop Zone, Demolition Man with Sylvester Stallone, Coming 2 America (his last film), Dolemite Is My Name, The Expendables trilogy, Brooklyn's Finest, Chaos, Blade 2 and 3, Disappearing Acts with Sanaa Lathan, Down In The Delta, U.S. Marshals, Murder at 1600, The Fan, Money Train, Rising Sun, New Jack City to get a glimpse of his acting. He's done quite a lot of lower budget films of which I've seen a few and they were OK. Mary, Stephen Dorff aka Frost was in the film Immortals with Henry Cavill and Felon with Val Kilmer. He appeared in Zoolander, Deuces Wild, Feardotcom, Den Of Lions, Cold Creek Manor, He played Britney Spear's boyfriend in her music video "Everytime" Alone In The Dark, Shadowboxer, World Trade Center, Public Enemies, and Leatherface. Some vampires do drink animal blood, just watch Interview With A Vampire. Wonder if the new actor playing Blade will be in Strikeforce or if they will get Wesley back to play the part.

Black Panther actually was the first Black superhero since he debuted originally in 1966. Blade was created by Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan in 1973. Power Man (Luke Cage) was created in 1972. To some extent the portrayal of vampires in this film, somewhat horror - somewhat comedy - had been established in Buffy the Vampire Slayer the Movie (1992) and TV show (1997).
