That's great, Take 10min to figure out how much you've spent on gas, oil changes and repairs......Thats why Big oil and legacy auto don't want EV's to work and Toyota is paying scotty and others to make anti EV video's like this.
Battery "miles" should ALWAYS be clarified as ideal conditions. Subtract a/c or heat, accessories, etc, and that would reduce the range by at least 20%. Many folks think this is real life milesge range. It's NOT!
Then you should do that for ICE too. Guess what? ICE range varies per mpg in the exact same way! That's why they explain under what conditions you can expect to get the MPG rating! My EV uses A/C all the time in 90+ degree weather. Impact? 1-2%, NOT 20! heat pumps actually produce MORE heat/cooling energy than they USE! Look it up! My expected range? 303 mpg. What I get in eco mode is closer to 330 mpg. So you are WRONG!

Lived experiences are effecting the EV market right now, not sales techniques and promises of utopia. EVs have a place for certain people and certain lifestyles, but that doesn't fit with a great many people today. Thus the weak sales results. Governments pushing an unrealistic curtailment of freedoms is not the answer. Watch a few actual road test videos and see how they experience the EV reality!
Rivian just had a major EV fire at their factory in Illinois over the weekend, and the toxic smoke from it could be seen from 20 miles away. Good thing people are using paper straws though or we'd be in trouble.

That lithium battery fire happened back in July, but we had an electric Semi truck that caught fire on I-80 near Nyack. It burned for hours and shut down the entire freeway in both directions. All the other vehicles had to be detoured to other freeways.
The one on I-15 Scotty talked about shut down all traffic between Las Vegas and Los Angeles for a day in the summer heat. No alternate routes out of it. I doubt if any Teslas stuck in the middle of that parade made it out alive.
@@fasn279 yep! Never miss one. Also, I found on AAA website how to park a car so its easy on the transmission. I got it with 154k miles and I know that the owner had a valve job on it. Whatever it means. I have no issues ever since. Just replaced the belts runs great

Tesla has answers for the EV Future today's Models Started in 2003, 2008 1st production car. Never stopped improving. Can't say that about many other manufacturers.

The trick is it depends on what you're driving for a manual transmission listen to the engine, don't let them rev above 3 and a half thousand RPM before you let it shift that's how I was taught to drive stick shift you got to listen for it. Again it depends on what your driving for a stick, 25 mph u shift 40 to 45 mph 2nd shift . And then you go from there you give it about 10 to 15 miles per hour per shift.
Meanwhile Ontario Canada is in immediate need of MDs and funding to public health care to stop the leak to private. Big hosps reportedly have state of art surgery spaces but lack proper funding to staff and utilize them as much as they could be.
Parts plants and assembly plants do the same thing. They open with government subsidies then when the subsidy runs out they close. The GM transmission plant in MD did just that
I spoke to a financial services guy recently who is actually shorting the car market right now... Not a good sign. When inflation is up, the economy is doing poorly, and the average monthly car payment cost goes up significantly - like it has..., the car market goes into a free fall. Wait to buy a car folks.
The best solution I have seen so far, is a Hybrid. The kind that is in the 2025 Honda Civic. It gets 50mpg and it has Good power, it has a 4cyl engine and 2 electric motors in the drive train. So They Get rid of the transmission that requires "Fluid".. SO it is more reliable without that kind of trans.. And it runs on GAS.. So you may not have to plug it in and charge it remotely. Just fill up.
@@peter7582 well I hear ya.. But they do get rid of the transmission which requires maintenance. And the electric motors are more reliable than the common geared transmission. That said, I have no idea "how much battery" they have. But I think it is much less battery than a Tesla.

i live in a small tourist town in new hampshire i see alot of electric cars (mostly from massachusettes) its about 120 miles away (to boston)..i talk to folks that own them..when they talk..they seem to love them.
I don't think serious advances in battery technology are coming due to the energy density issue(thermodynamics) issue. You CAN make them higher energy density but that will only come at the cost of compromising stability and safety as well as longevity and rechargability.
We are making no advancement in anything we are literally just refreshing old tech and passing it as new, even look at cars we are paying high prices for the same thing we could buy 5 to 10yrs ago with minor tweeks
I'm an electrical engineer and battery technology and price are the main concern for electric cars. Technology maturation should be around 2028 due to solid state battery volumes which will lower the price.
I have a 2013 Toyota Tundra that runs on compressed natural gas and regular gas. Love this truck. Have no need for an electric car. Who knows what the future holds but in the meantime I’m in the no column
Yeah, deregulation of the CA electrical grid has really screwed things up for a lot of the state. All of the places that still have publicly owned utilities are doing great! Hopefully, the government will come to its senses and take the grid back from these greedy corporations!
2000 Mazda 626 ES Fully Loaded 100,000 miles doesnt burn a drop of oil , literally every single option and bulb still works even the cruise. Its even got leather sunroof and factory Bose upgrade. Thats my beater , my 2018 Camry 203 horsepower 8 speed fully loaded with 30000 miles will last me till I die.
I live in the high desert here in California not too far south from where that battery fire happened... Not only was the fire a big deal because it's summer in the desert, it was also a Hazmat containment and clean up scene for quite some time. The freeway shut down and people were stuck there in over 100° weather in their cars for around 24 hours

Im still getting 41mpg on my 2012 Civic if I run 80%freeway miles,Thats with 180,000 miles never adjusted the valves oil changes at 8 9000 thousand mile intervals. So why would anyone want an EV?
There's a great video of a Tesla sitting under the water, its fully open gull wing doors just barely breaching the surface, flames reaching the surface while the car busy's itself committing suicide below. The commentary mentions that the car warned the driver before it became menopausal and suffered a catastrophic hot flash. The driver struggled to get free before the space aged suicide box tried to terminated itself.
There is also a project in Quebec with Northvolt. They lost two big clients in the past six months and I doubt they’ll build the factory. They took money from our government however…
Where I live in Ontario, Canada where PowerCo (a division of VW) is building a massive EV battery plant. Like in Eastern Ontario the Government gave them millions. I think it is only a matter of time before they put the brakes on this plant too.
Scotty, could you do a short video recommending what things need to be done to cars getting ready for winter storage? I have two and there is debate about changing the oil before storage or change it in the spring. Also, the debate on storing them with ethanol free fuel and adding stabil. Thanks!
They have less energy density which makes them bigger and can't be packaged in such a way that would be on par with the Lithium Ion batteries... On boats where you see them a lot, space is less of an issue and of course they are safer with fewer issues.
Hyundai is currently building this huge EV production plant near Savannah, GA, and by how the EV market is looking. I wonder if they gonna stop construction soon.
I survived but- my car died at the end of June and I didn’t get another until 7/19. It’s nearly impossible to get around where I live with a 4 yr old without a car with a car seat. I agree- we need to walk more anyway. That’s basically what we did, walked to the local pool.
Agree. Plus it'll free up all the extra space that parking lots take up. Maybe bus stops every mile or so for those that need to go further than walkable.
I bought one of the first shipments of the Tesla M3 performance. I use the free night and weekend electricity plan to charge for free and I've never had a problem with it since buying it in 2019. I don't get the EV hate? Plenty of range, no issues ever finding a charger in Texas, and the thing just runs great. I've even road tripped cross country with it a few times, my only complaint would be the occasional self-driving "phantom brake" issue which is super annoying if the senor gets dirty on a long drive.
Don't be surprised if you have to wait 3 hours or more for a flat fix or tire rotation at costco...maybe certain days at certain times they might not be as busy, but busy they are almost always.
I just fix my own flats, carry the tools in my trunk. Cost a few bucks for the kit, and can fix about 5 tires. Cheaper and faster than Costco or Walmart Tire. WAY cheaper than Firestone, etc.
They could be the future, but things need to change. The vehicles need to be cheaper, battery replacement and repair needs to be cheaper, and EVERY gas station needs a quick charge station that can fully charge one of these cars in 5 minutes or less. Once that tech exists, than maybe all electric will take off.
I just bought a brand new dodge durango R/T Premium from a dodge dealership. The sticker was listed at 69k, they sold it to me for 51k and gave me exactly what I asked for on my trade in, 42,800 on my tundra. They're deseperate. I owed about 30k on that Tundra.
My 2000 gmc savana work van has 356,000 on it. I got it in 2012 for $3000 with 150,000 on it. Sucks on gas though, gets 10 mpg, but a new one costs 10x as much.

Biden's CAFE standards are forcing manufacturers to build and sell EVs. By 2031 all passenger light duty trucks (F150, 1500, etc) must get 50mg and heavy duty trucks must average 35mpg. The only way they can meet the standards is to sell lots of EVs. BTW, if the EV market is dead why is the Tesla Model Y STILL the best selling car in the world?
The best way to but out a chemical fire is with fire suppressant foam. Highly environmentally unfriendly foam. If you are burning that much coolant, I'd check to see if white smoke is pouring out the tailpipe.

I had a cell phone catch fire when I was trying to change its battery. Throwing water on it didn't put the fire out. I ended up dumping it and the mat it was sitting on into a five gallon bucket of cold water. That did the trick.

For me I can charge at home and work isn’t very far so my next car will be another ev once you don’t have to worry about transmissions failing and how easy it is to charge at home it’s hard go ice for me
Well Scotty you got it partly correct. The legacy manufacturers are going to lose a lot of money this year. Their strategic plan is to stop developing EVs and reduce their own capital expenses for EVs. Just focus on their Legacy ICE products. With the idea that Tesla's existing production capacity is limited to about 3 million EVs without additional factories. The problem is EV adoption is still growing Even this year it will be up and it's not going to stop. Other vendors from Korea, the Chinese and the Europeans will step in. We will what happens. EV owners aren't going back, they are just better vehicles.
A study was done in California that 1 out of 5 EV owners revert back to ICE... in California the most EV friendly state Nobody wants EVs forced let the market decide
I think people aren’t understanding that the higher the population the more busy businesses are which means you have to wait longer for everything. You see this at the DMV. If you live in Miami you wait hours but if you move to South Dakota 30 minutes is nothing for you
I was in Vancouver, Canada earlier this month and was looking to rent a car. Since there were no available car when I was doing my search, I opted for Budget's so called suppliers' choice. When I picked it up, it turned out to be an EV. I said HELL NO! I paid an extra $20 to get a gas powered Hyundai Venue for a peace of mind :)
I feel like hybrids or plug in hybrids are probably the most stable option for the future of mass car production. It allows drivers to have flexibility and better range compared to an EV. Gasoline isn't going away anytime soon but we should try to maximize our usage and try to make cars as flexible as possible instead of wasting money and resources on lackluster cars. People are forgetting that EVs require way more cobalt too.
@@Hisway1151 really? You really think 1 man has more power than most of Congress, at best he will remove the support of Green funding. But do you actually want that? Solar and wind are now cheaper to install and build than any other form of energy now. And once they're built. They're built. And generate essentially "free" energy. Trust me, even economists that are completely separate to this are damn sure that this is where the market is heading. Whether with Donald's support or not, EVs are coming in the next 20-30 years. It's just a natural progression of technology.
John Cadogan did a good series of videos highlighting the dangers of EV fires, a Scandinavian company is using brine which shows positive effects in fighting these fires.
In the NAVY we were instructed on class DELTA (metal!) fires to shovel it into a bucket or garbage can full of water and toss the whole thing over the side! Shovel included if it caught too....

Battery "miles" should ALWAYS be clarified as ideal conditions. Subtract a/c or heat, accessories, etc, and that would reduce the range by at least 20%. Many folks think this is real life milesge range. It's NOT!

That lithium battery fire happened back in July, but we had an electric Semi truck that caught fire on I-80 near Nyack. It burned for hours and shut down the entire freeway in both directions. All the other vehicles had to be detoured to other freeways.

The one on I-15 Scotty talked about shut down all traffic between Las Vegas and Los Angeles for a day in the summer heat. No alternate routes out of it. I doubt if any Teslas stuck in the middle of that parade made it out alive.

The trick is it depends on what you're driving for a manual transmission listen to the engine, don't let them rev above 3 and a half thousand RPM before you let it shift that's how I was taught to drive stick shift you got to listen for it. Again it depends on what your driving for a stick, 25 mph u shift 40 to 45 mph 2nd shift . And then you go from there you give it about 10 to 15 miles per hour per shift.
I’d drive stick if I lived somewhere more rural. Rush hour takes the fun out of driving stick for me.

The best solution I have seen so far, is a Hybrid. The kind that is in the 2025 Honda Civic. It gets 50mpg and it has Good power, it has a 4cyl engine and 2 electric motors in the drive train. So They Get rid of the transmission that requires "Fluid".. SO it is more reliable without that kind of trans.. And it runs on GAS.. So you may not have to plug it in and charge it remotely. Just fill up.
I have a 2007 honda fit that gets 40 mpg. If people didn't drive ego mobiles we wouldn't be in such a dilemma.

I don't think serious advances in battery technology are coming due to the energy density issue(thermodynamics) issue. You CAN make them higher energy density but that will only come at the cost of compromising stability and safety as well as longevity and rechargability.
We are making no advancement in anything we are literally just refreshing old tech and passing it as new, even look at cars we are paying high prices for the same thing we could buy 5 to 10yrs ago with minor tweeks
I'm an electrical engineer and battery technology and price are the main concern for electric cars. Technology maturation should be around 2028 due to solid state battery volumes which will lower the price.
I have a 2013 Toyota Tundra that runs on compressed natural gas and regular gas. Love this truck. Have no need for an electric car. Who knows what the future holds but in the meantime I’m in the no column

Not only was the fire a big deal because it's summer in the desert, it was also a Hazmat containment and clean up scene for quite some time. The freeway shut down and people were stuck there in over 100° weather in their cars for around 24 hours

There's a great video of a Tesla sitting under the water, its fully open gull wing doors just barely breaching the surface, flames reaching the surface while the car busy's itself committing suicide below. The commentary mentions that the car warned the driver before it became menopausal and suffered a catastrophic hot flash. The driver struggled to get free before the space aged suicide box tried to terminated itself.

They have less energy density which makes them bigger and can't be packaged in such a way that would be on par with the Lithium Ion batteries... On boats where you see them a lot, space is less of an issue and of course they are safer with fewer issues.

I bought one of the first shipments of the Tesla M3 performance. I use the free night and weekend electricity plan to charge for free and I've never had a problem with it since buying it in 2019. I don't get the EV hate? Plenty of range, no issues ever finding a charger in Texas, and the thing just runs great. I've even road tripped cross country with it a few times, my only complaint would be the occasional self-driving "phantom brake" issue which is super annoying if the senor gets dirty on a long drive.
Don't be surprised if you have to wait 3 hours or more for a flat fix or tire rotation at costco...maybe certain days at certain times they might not be as busy, but busy they are almost always.
I just fix my own flats, carry the tools in my trunk. Cost a few bucks for the kit, and can fix about 5 tires. Cheaper and faster than Costco or Walmart Tire. WAY cheaper than Firestone, etc.

They could be the future, but things need to change. The vehicles need to be cheaper, battery replacement and repair needs to be cheaper, and EVERY gas station needs a quick charge station that can fully charge one of these cars in 5 minutes or less. Once that tech exists, than maybe all electric will take off.

My 2000 gmc savana work van has 356,000 on it. I got it in 2012 for $3000 with 150,000 on it. Sucks on gas though, gets 10 mpg, but a new one costs 10x as much.

Biden's CAFE standards are forcing manufacturers to build and sell EVs. By 2031 all passenger light duty trucks (F150, 1500, etc) must get 50mg and heavy duty trucks must average 35mpg. The only way they can meet the standards is to sell lots of EVs.

I had a cell phone catch fire when I was trying to change its battery. Throwing water on it didn't put the fire out. I ended up dumping it and the mat it was sitting on into a five gallon bucket of cold water. That did the trick.

Well Scotty you got it partly correct. The legacy manufacturers are going to lose a lot of money this year. Their strategic plan is to stop developing EVs and reduce their own capital expenses for EVs. Just focus on their Legacy ICE products. With the idea that Tesla's existing production capacity is limited to about 3 million EVs without additional factories. The problem is EV adoption is still growing Even this year it will be up and it's not going to stop. Other vendors from Korea, the Chinese and the Europeans will step in. We will what happens. EV owners aren't going back, they are just better vehicles.

I was in Vancouver, Canada earlier this month and was looking to rent a car. Since there were no available car when I was doing my search, I opted for Budget's so called suppliers' choice. When I picked it up, it turned out to be an EV. I said HELL NO! I paid an extra $20 to get a gas powered Hyundai Venue for a peace of mind :)

I feel like hybrids or plug in hybrids are probably the most stable option for the future of mass car production. It allows drivers to have flexibility and better range compared to an EV. Gasoline isn't going away anytime soon but we should try to maximize our usage and try to make cars as flexible as possible instead of wasting money and resources on lackluster cars. People are forgetting that EVs require way more cobalt too.

@@Hisway1151 really? You really think 1 man has more power than most of Congress, at best he will remove the support of Green funding. But do you actually want that? Solar and wind are now cheaper to install and build than any other form of energy now. And once they're built. They're built. And generate essentially "free" energy. Trust me, even economists that are completely separate to this are damn sure that this is where the market is heading. Whether with Donald's support or not, EVs are coming in the next 20-30 years. It's just a natural progression of technology.
John Cadogan did a good series of videos highlighting the dangers of EV fires, a Scandinavian company is using brine which shows positive effects in fighting these fires.

In the NAVY we were instructed on class DELTA (metal!) fires to shovel it into a bucket or garbage can full of water and toss the whole thing over the side! Shovel included if it caught too....
