I owned a few older Mercedes Benz cars years ago. They had the oil bath type air filter. Once a year, I drained the oil out of them, washed the filter element, allowed it to dry, added fresh oil to the oil bath, then put the filter back in & locked it down with the clamps. @1LElife that's true. Just adding extra airflow potential without adding extra fuel via the computer is pointless. The oil soaked filters were only really good in the diesels

@@markcorby8475 I didn’t even bother to oil it, I just chucked it. I figured if I oiled it, I’d probably slap too much on it and screw everything up as well.
The problem with K&N filters is the correct balance of filter oil. K&N is great for dusty conditions where oil does a great job of holding back the dust. Too much oil causes the mass sensor problems and not enough oil leads to poor filtration. I think K&N is risky for a daily driver, yet great for a track car or industrial or service engines that are well maintained.

The good news is that I did not mess it up, but the bad news was that I had apparently gotten it replaced the last time I had my oil changed and didn’t need to do it. ( yes, now these days I change my own oil and filter ) I ended up putting that filter on the shelf and lost it for several years lol

great update thanks Scottie.... have you ever used waterless coolant before? I was thinking of using it in my 33 year old Honda but some mechanics say that it is very overrated. keep up the great work 👍
I did a mileage test on a dirty filter then again with a new one and the difference was 1 mile per gallon improvement with a new filter, so when someone says your pissing money away with a dirty filter it's not really that bad.
Hey Scotty, I have a 2015 Chevy Sonic LT hatchback. One of my rear light assemblies has condensation in it. How can i prevent this or get the condensation out without taking the light assemble out and replacing with a new one? Many thanks!
If you properly clean, dry, and oil your K&N filter, you won't have any issue with it. The oil should be allowed to properly dry before you stick it in your car and start driving again. That's why I have two, so I can just swap them out and always have a properly cleaned and dried one. Also, the thumbnail shows Scotty using Lucas oil stabilizer. While Lucas makes good products and states that it will not void a car's warranty; oil companies on the other hand, will not stand behind their oil if you have a claim for an oil issue if you use any additives, because it changes the way they designed the oil to operate. I've never heard of anything coming of this, and I've used the oil stabilizer and the PS/Trans Fluid additive without any issues.
I tried rebuilding a two barrel carb on a Ford 300 six ……😢 kept coughing though the carb ….. went down and bought a rebuilt one and the engine ran fine 😊
Are FRAM Air filters good? I have used them for Oil Filters but never Air Filters... I used K&N but to be honest, I am not staying on top of cleaning and I'd be better off using regular one.

High interest rates and high prices are too much for me.
This is funny! My first car was an Buick Opel Kadett 1.1 liter engine . Just a little bigger than a lawn tractor . I kept it for about 2 years and when I sold it I had a one inch thick stack of auto parts receipts. Good Times !!!!!😮😯😳😦😱😩😫
I only use Napa Gold filters for engine oil filter, air filter, and fuel filters. One step below is Napa Pro Series. I want my car to have the best, Napa Gold.
Scotty your the best thanks for your advice. I think you need a blue tarp over your work area reminds me of you when in Houston really all those side hustle mechanics
My viswagen can get aftermarket filers for very low price with lots of filterin quality. Never gets dusty .. lots of capes of filtering just using sport mode and getting decent accelerstion. 😅
Scotty I know u say all oil is good I did a lot research Toyota has like 700 molly and it has baron next leading is Mobil 1 with only 80 molly. Is it worth spending extra for toyota for molly baron and couple other additives that others lack?
What about say a 2005 ford focus that supposedly has a lifetime air-filter which is actually a thick foam filter that cant ever be serviced unless you completely change out the air-filter box which costs $200+ tax + filter element?
Never buy gas when the truck is filling the underground tanks. Dumping fuel in the tank stirs up all the water and sediment on the bottom of the tank. It's designed to not suck ten inches from the bottom because that is where the water is. If they're dumping fuel they're stirring up all the crap in the tank that's going in your car.
For Maintenance I suggest removing your Fuel Filter once a year and Simply Blow through it, , , if it's Hard to Blow through, it's time to Replace it, , ,
In Europe most BMWs are at 30.000km (19.000 Miles) and VWs with long life oil a change is only required every 50.000km (31.000 miles). Since the lease company was cheaping out my diesel BMW drove 60.000 km (38.000 miles, so 1 interval was skipped) before changing. Never had to fill oil but I guess sooner or later it will be the problem for the second owner…
This channel could be such an invaluable resource for car issues. Problem is, the videos aren't titled for what he's talking about, so you can't look anything up later. What a waste
My dumb, dumb, I mean stepson bought his 2013 Prius at 135K miles. He is now around the 200K miles and had had issues on hot days, where it feels like it isn't shifting properly. Like it's staying in a lower gear. I just changed his tranny fluid a couple of weeks ago. Today, he said it still does it. I'm guessing maybe because he didn't have the black old fluid changed until about 200K miles, maybe it wore groves, making it seem like it catches and seems stuck in a gear, even though it's a CV tranny? IDK I'm not 100% sure how those work, but I do know how a snowmobile clutch/tranny works, with a belt. Do you have any idea why it would react like it isn't upshifting properly? The last time I changed his oil, only a little over one quart of old oil came out. I think I found the leak. Some connector near the top driver's side, back of the engine. I keep reminding him to check his oil at least once a week.

Yes right 😂. Let me know where is your brain filter located 😂

1. Engine Air Filter 2. Fuel Filter. 3.Coolant
I thought he was going to take a drink of that coolant in the glass. It looks like a cocktail. 😂
K&N is not for off pavement use. It will not filter dust. Great for street and strip though👍
My early fords (flathead) ..had oil bathed air filters ..
You're the BEST 👍💯
What are your thoughts on shaeffer engine oil ? Its expensive but want to give it a try on my old car
I go to Napa. Expensive quality.
I only use Napa Gold filters for engine oil filter, air filter, and fuel filters.
One step below is Napa Pro Series. I want my car to have the best, Napa Gold.
is it true the dirtier your filter is the more it cleans finer dirt out?
What vehicles would be recommended for a full time food courier/catering gig?
Scotty this video is friggin awesome. Thankyou ❤
Scotty I change battery and alternator on my Honda Accord 2016 2.4 and the a code popped up that said check charge system . What should I do?
Love your eyes. Wear sunglasses at night 😅. Love your Information 😅. Great videos
Scotty, look at David Vizard's review of K&N, and flow when dirty. It's very interesting.
One of your best videos Scotty!
Excellent scotty cheers 🥂 😊
What about say a 2005 ford focus that supposedly has a lifetime air-filter which is actually a thick foam filter that cant ever be serviced unless you completely change out the air-filter box which costs $200+ tax + filter element?
Scotty always on point
Why couldn't all manufacturers put the fuel filters inline like the Town Cars?
Engineers are eggheads
I've seen so many Scotty Kilmer videos about cars in my life that at this point I'm just gonna consider him my father.
Thanks scotty on the air filter lesson 😂
Never buy gas when the truck is filling the underground tanks. Dumping fuel in the tank stirs up all the water and sediment on the bottom of the tank. It's designed to not suck ten inches from the bottom because that is where the water is. If they're dumping fuel they're stirring up all the crap in the tank that's going in your car.
WIX makes excellent filters
So the thumbnail image is NOT from this particular video, correct?!
CORRECT!!!
What if the OEM is just Fram? I would rather have a high performing paper filter from STP or something more worth a dam.
That video must be in Houston....humidity so thick you could take a deep breath and drown...
Scotty...what we going to do with out you....thank you so much 🙏 BLESSINGS 🙏
I have 420000 miles on my express van going strong 💪
I have a k&n washable filter. Best filter on the market.
The original VW Beetle also used an oil bath oil filter.
What about the cabin air filters? The one in my Toyota looks tricky.
For Maintenance I suggest removing your Fuel Filter once a year and Simply Blow through it, , , if it's Hard to Blow through, it's time to Replace it, , ,
Thanks Scott
Scotty at his best. 🎉
How many Scotty’s are there? One lives in Houston, TX. One lives in Tennessee and a couple more out east….Hahaha
bought an 05 civic screws for air filter are rusted and stripped on. How do I get them off?
Make sure you keep on top of the cambelt intervals too.
Scotty, are you back in Houston? Your videos are the best. I’d love to take my car to you again if you are innHouston area.
Haha i saw the starbucks pop up when you said waste of money, couldnt agree more
Live Free or Die... you got me with that sign!
Boy this vid is old. That's his old home in Houston.
Can you really use new HOAT in old 95 Tercel or should I just use Toyota red
I disagree. Wix makes fantastic filters at a very reasonable price.
Excellent And Indepth info 👍
Can you expand on a proper flushing of the coolant?
You think you can oil change at 10k miles? Even semi truck change at 8-7k miles with way less RPM.
Oil bath filters in my day
must be HOT in texas Scotty is sweating up a storm!
I love the Starbucks pop up when he was talking about wasting money. 😂

Thank you!
This channel could be such an invaluable resource for car issues. Problem is, the videos aren't titled for what he's talking about, so you can't look anything up later. What a waste
Guy changes his mind from video to video as well
You got sweaty on this one Scottie you must be back in Tennessee. Edit. Where does Scotty live? He’s in Houston now??
My dumb, dumb, I mean stepson bought his 2013 Prius at 135K miles. He is now around the 200K miles and had had issues on hot days, where it feels like it isn't shifting properly. Like it's staying in a lower gear. I just changed his tranny fluid a couple of weeks ago. Today, he said it still does it. I'm guessing maybe because he didn't have the black old fluid changed until about 200K miles, maybe it wore groves, making it seem like it catches and seems stuck in a gear, even though it's a CV tranny? IDK
I'm not 100% sure how those work, but I do know how a snowmobile clutch/tranny works, with a belt. Do you have any idea why it would react like it isn't upshifting properly?
The last time I changed his oil, only a little over one quart of old oil came out. I think I found the leak. Some connector near the top driver's side, back of the engine. I keep reminding him to check his oil at least once a week.
