    OK, so I have taken apart the machine in the meantime, and had a look inside. There is, in fact a PID temperature probe on the exit of the thermoblock, just like on the Gaggia GED. So I do think that the extractions will be more accurate than before. That being said, with one initial measurement, it started at 92 to 93°C, dipped down to 88 in the middle of the extraction, and went back up to 93 at the end.
    There are also two three-way solenoid valves…however, not to relieve pressure off of the brew group, but rather to manage the steam wand. Let me know if you’d be interested in seeing a video of the insides. Thanks for watching!

      I would be very interested to know if it has an overpressure valve that limits the pressure to 9bars.
      If not then it will do poorly with non pressurized baskets because the basket also has a 20% smaller area meaning even higher force (per area) and more channeling.

    I was gifted an EC950 following my retirement from the workforce. My first proper espresso machine after using Nespresso pods for years. What an upgrade. Really good machine, and tasty coffee. I can vouch that you need to get a Specialista compatible non-pressurised portafilter as the Dedica portafilters don't fit. Now it's time to get my grinder and lift my coffee to the next level.

    I 100% agree that at this price point, and at this point in the lineup, they should start to include a normal non-pressurized basket. Their argument would likely be that this is bordering on an entry level semi-automatic, and therefore it's more geared away from someone who would want a normal basket. I think they should make like a hobby spot in the Dedica lineup, where it has a spring loaded tamper included, fancy baskets, temp controller with a readout, etc

    I got so excited when I saw the notification on my phone, I had to watch it on big screen. I rushed back home.
    New Dedica looks lovely and i especially enjoy new temperature settings, I own EC885 and its a bit lackluster when it comes to brewing temperatures!
    What I wished they would upgrade is to have a matte drip tray, so it doesn't scratch like Arte does. First thing I did for my Arte machine was to cut out a thin rubber cover for the drip tray.
    Also I'm curious about the shower screen in this unit? is it same as Arte? Pre-infusion was different for sure. Drips during main pour looked more uniform too.
    Basic mode shots look great in EC950 that's a step up for sure.
    New steam wand looks great and is definitely interesting, although addition of the thermometer makes for a bulkier package and more stuff to wipe after steaming... i mean its cool, but it could be left manual in my opinion. Whats the steaming power compared to older models?
    Does brew group heat up or nah?
    Sorry for a lot of questions. Great video as always Tom!

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner

      Hi there! I think it's the same shower screen as before. Steaming power is better. For sure, this is the best steam wand I've used in the Dedica lineup, at least in manual mode. Brew group is still not heated. Yes, wiping off the thermometer is an additional thing, but since it doesn't get hot, the milk wipes off without fuss. Cheers!

    The drip tray looks a lot better than on earlier Dedicas, I recently got a ec685 and the drip tray is really frustrating because larger scales won't fit on it (and thus won't work because the scale is not on its feet), and it has only two large holes (I assume for the stock spouted portafilter), which is again very annoying.

    Looks to be a good machine, except for the absence of a solenoid valve (no quick repeat coffees for the family) and the lack of single wall filters. Seems to be an attempt to make a Sage Bambino Plus competitor, but misses that mark slightly.

  • @vladislav_panin
    @vladislav_panin 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    The original Dedica was/is a great entry point into the home espresso-making world, where you get a good value for your money. However, I feel this new version of Dedica doesn't stand a chance in camprisson to Sage Bambino Plus, which I think was their main goal here. Bambino Plus has a way better built quality and a smoother workflow for pretty much the same amount of money. What are your thoughts on this one, guys? Tom, thank you for a great review! 🙌

    • @nanu38319
      @nanu38319 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it is just an oversized Dedica with stainless steel portafilter and auto steam (that takes also long to froth…). Maybe with better temp stability and faster to change tenp setting (maybe Tom will test the temp stability during extraction). Don‘t see any clear advantage for that money. Old Dedica seems very close to this and it is way cheaper. Instead of the auto steam - milk froather works as well (ok, the cleaning will take bit more).

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree that its functionality doesn't beat the BP. But I wouldn't agree that the build quality on the BP is better. Also, the BP is much harder to get inside. This one is just 3 screws on the top lid of the unit. What is nicer though on the BP is the solenoid to release pressure off the brew group.

    Could you also have a look on one of the Dedica's competitor, the HiBrew H10B?

    The new button design with the addition of buttons with assigned functions is certainly an improvement. Bigger is not always better.... I like the size of my Dedica 850. I do not think I like the steam wand at all......I don't think this "newer" kid on the block would go to the top of my list of replacements if the 850 bites the dust.

    Initially I thought this would be nice upgrade from my Dedica 685 but looking at this vid I don't think I will. The 685 looks better, has a smaller footprint and don't see any real improvement worth the extra money. Also, adding the jug or that tamper as most people would have these and newbies wouldn't care if they got the basic plastic tamper. Better to provide wooden handle and non pressurised basket instead. Next will be Dedica 885.

  • @morphmkd
    @morphmkd 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Wanna see that PID on a Dedica without the automatic steam wand, which I guess should reduce the price a bit as on the Bambino and Bambino Plus. The only problem of the Dedica (and the Bambino) was not getting stable and high enough temp, so it struggles with light roast shots. If it can manage to be throughout the whole shot at least around 89-90 and up would be perfect for home users even for someone like me that loves only light roasts!

    Hi, Tom. I've recently bought Sage Bambino. When I saw this film on your channel I thought: God, I've could wait a little time - this new Dedica might be Sage killer. At first sight it looks like Bambino and Bambino Plus pair, but on the DeLonghi side. After I saw your material I know that my choice was ok. Looks like new DeLonghi has nothing more to offer than Bambino, sadly. If only they gave a manometer to it - people would think "ok, manometer, something more than the competition has, maybe it's worth buying". Looking at it I see no addition in funcionalities. If I were working in DeLonghi I'd definitely add something that would catch the buyer, e.g. a manometer xD Cheers!

    With most people fitting a Rancilio Silvia wand and a non pressure basket to our 680s a simple wand and basket would have been cheaper to design and make, they are aiming this at the wrong market for the price point I feel. Companies don't want people to make good coffee for a sensible price for some reason. The new steam wand looks really fancy but I worry about manual steaming. Will you will able to use it confortably? At a first glance, I think the breville sollution is better, with the temp probe on the base, because it does not force you to use it and you can steam normally.
