Tom, this is to pay for the shots at the border in the 'short' from a couple days ago. The bill was $4.88, keep the 12 cents change :):) Based on that I am ordering some beans from "Cerini", a company out of NYC that deals in Italian beans.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Awesome, but seeing as I paid for your espresso :):), which type of bean did the espresso shot use? Was it Ristretto?.. sort of looked like it could be.
Great detailed comparison! And as I expected, and hoped for also, the Dedica does better job with light roasts because it hits higher temps with the PID. The only problem for the Bambino in general as machine is the sour shots with light roasts and that is deal breaker for many people that are into light roasts but doesn't want to spend 500-600+ euros on a machine. Aside from the Legato from DF, this Dedica looks like a legit option. Cheers
Interesting that the coarser grind necessary, due to the narrower portafilter, gives the better result presumably due to better temperature management.
Great comparison Tom. I have to disagree with the Bambino steaming though. My auto results are very silky at around 48 seconds. Even better with oat milk.
I'm just coming here to watch this now getting ready for bed after work and I just want to say thank you very much for this comparison. People ask me for advice since I've got my Bambino Plus and I do try not to default to just my machine since the market is growing.
Great comparison. It'd be even better if Tom extracted the shots at the same time for us to see both machines working side by side. Plus, the Breville's shot was cooling down while he prepared the Dedica's shot. Otherwise excellent vid!
Can you review of the Bambino Plus is rather disappointing given my experience with it has been nothing but stellar especially around the milk steaming. On the lowest steam setting it produces more than adequate micro foam for latte art. All of my shots come out very good. I have yet to pull a shot that goes right into the sink.
Interresting to see the temperature comparison. I have the regular bambino, which extracts the first shot(medium roast) well, however any consecutive shot becomes more and more astringent. I thought actually, that it becomes too hot, and the PID cannot properly compensate, when everything is hot already. But now I don't know. Maybe it's actually not hot enought, but the initial steam during preinfusion, which gets more and more prominent with every shot messes up the shot more and more, and it's not because of getting too hot overall, so more complex than it seems.
The regular Bambino doesn't have a 3-way valve to purge water through the thermal block to cool it down so there's probably some kind of thermal lag at play as the PID can't heat as aggressively compared to a machine that can cool the block down. So the next shot has the thermal block detected as being hot and the PID doesn't heat up the block initially and by the time the heating kicks in and reaches the water, you're already midway through the shot.
Thanks, Tom, for this very informative video. Will the equipment I purchased for my older Dedica (i.e., bottomless portafilter, non-pressurized basket and funnel) fit and work well on the new Dedica? 0:02

What the hell man? The maths not adding up. Can we please point out that the breville was trying to run away from you every time it was running? Cups are walking all over the place, your meter almost fell off the top and you literally held it down with your arm at one point, yet you never mention it. That alone is a catastrophic loss. Just say you have a thing for the bambino. We'll understand. This is a stain on the integrity of your whole channel in the opinion of someone who generally likes your channel.

Good video as always.
they're both not as bang for your buck as the newer hibrew or wirsh machines
Why did you mention these two machines?!! Now I have to look these up and add more to the equation of which one to buy!😡🤣
$100 buys alot of fresh coffee. #dedicamaestroplus
12:49 xD
I would never really trust Delonghi imo
Why not?
If you’re spending $500 on the bambino you might as well just get the express for $70 more. You get a grinder with it.
But from what I understood, the milk steaming pipe is worse on the Barista Express.
De'Longhi wins for me over Breville in most cases.
breville > delonghi
Normally yes, but I think the DMP is better than the BP in this case.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner The Bambino (not the plus)- is near perfect for the price. the plus is overpriced. the temperature control on the dmp is definitely nice. what i've seen with bambino is doing a prep shot (water only) with a pressurized basket gets the temperature up on the bambino.
Both machines seem ugly. Does exist a top machine in the range of 1000,00€???no more. The feeling of this machines is that are a little bad😢!
So the Dedica is not for espresso enthusiasts, as you can't 'dial in'. My Gaggia Classic isn't so bad after all.
Not sure what you mean with dial in? I'd say the Dedica is better than the Bambino actually, based on the temperature comparison, and light roast check. Cheers!
This is by far the worst and most bias product review I’ve ever seen. You start off saying you’re only using OEM parts then immediately say you’re upgrading the baskets. What other OEM part is there to change? (I won’t even get into the upgraded portafillter on the bambino) Then you award points to the Delonghi in every category and declare breville the winner.
The Delonghi currently $100 off. So $299. Massive 25% savings. So for me same price as base Bambino 😳 Seems like a no brainer. Will be my first machine. 🥹😍🥳
Were do you buy ims filters for dedica in europe? Tried to contact them but never responded 🥹
I get them from Amazon. Which country are you in?
