Love the rant. My vet told me in 2019 that my dogs heart was enlarged because of the grain free dog food. I switch her food several times and she started sneezing, getting warts all over her, eyes tearing, etc. I finally gave up trying and now make her food and she has bounched back her peep in her step. She is so much happier.

Oh they care… they care enough to get you sick off of the stuff they pass off in food so that you can get on the poisonous drugs they push. In turn getting them paid! It’s truly evil.

I literally fired my vet 2 years ago after I took my new puppy to her, she asked me what she was being fed. I told her I make my own food and add some grain free kibble. She proceeded to shame me and told me I was a bad pet parent for giving my baby grain free kibble. I left her office and never returned. I now currently do my own vaccinations for all my pets and everyone is healthy and strong… grain free and all…

My dog jack, a maltese, 20 years ago. He was lethargic, etc
Took him to one of the better vets. They pushed science diet. The vet sold us a slew of the can food. We opened it and it was full of mold. I tried to feed better, but he was septic and soon died. That lit a fire under my butt and I studied from the best I could find. My dogs these days are healthy and happy. They eat FRESH 😊

@@ThePetWellnessCoach I have spent a lot of time studying and learning about dog nutrition I really enjoy the subject and I really like making our food and I'm always taking time to learn more and watch videos etc.
I know when I started to learn about kibble I was in total shock I knew it wasn't good but I had no idea it was so bad. Most people have no clue and they see the beautiful advertisements and packaging. Sometimes I wish I didn't know what I know about kibble because people I know like my mom still feed kibble and she's always asking me about various ailments and her constant vet visits and I believe its 90 percent food related. I try to go about explaining politely but its really difficult for some people to understand they've practically been lied to.
My mom and my wife both took a female dog from the same litter just over 10 years ago so they are senior dogs now and my wifes dog has been on raw its whole life and my moms dog on kibble the difference is massive especially these last few years.
But I get the feeling that more and more people are moving to a real food diet especially with all these companies offering pre-made options.

My GSD was diagnosed with DCM in 2017. He was eating grain free kibble in the morning and raw at night. The vets made me feel like I was responsible for his sickness because I was feeding “boutique food”, they called. My dog stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks, he wasn’t eating and his health was deteriorating. I start visiting him at feeding time and bring cooked food. He bounced back and came home with thousands of medicines.
Vet instruction was to feed him PPP, I bought a bag… but couldn’t feed him that, instead he was feed not kibble at all. Raw and cooked food. The vets gave him 6 months as his heart was too big and not pumping right. He lived 3.5 years.
    Our hearts knew better ❤

I'm curious about what grains the prey are eating. I'm going by in the wild, not farm raised. Deer eat grass, clover, alfalfa, apples, probably corn, but do they eat wheat? Cows are like deer, but do they eat corn in a field? Chicken eat bugs and grasses, and I think rodents. I don't know anything about pigs/hogs/boar. I don't know if any of them would eat rice in a field. I just doubt prey animals eat many grains at all.

Dogs don't need legumes or grain. If plant protein is used to replace animal protein I believe it can contribute to heart disease. Dogs need adequate amounts of taurine and other amino acids to support the heart that only come from meat. By replacing meat with legumes, potatoes or any other crappy ingredient, this means they are getting less of the good stuff that only comes from meat. The whole grain vs grain free argument is missing the whole point. Dogs need meat, bone and organs.

I ran across a CAR (Corrective Action Report) issued to Mars, by the FDA. I searched for hours and found no evidence that the CAR was ever closed out. It had something to do with their plant. To my recollection, there were holes in the walls where critters were free to enter. I think that there was some debris (maybe plastic bits) found in the food. It was about 5 years ago, but I remember thinking that if they did not fix their issues, they should have been shut down. If I had found this today, I would have been on the phone with the FDA to find out what happened. (Getting a little more assertive in my old age)

I know this is over a year old now and a re-post - but, interesting that you are re-posting this now with all that is going on in the dog food debate circles.
I was saying the DCM thing was "off" back then and saying over and over that "correlation is not causation", and taking flack for it (as I have worked in vet med as a vet tech).
But I am also saying that same thing and taking flack right now for what y'all are saying on the current topic of heated debate.
    "Correlation is NOT causation."
Dr Morgan said at roughly 8:52 that 500 reports out of roughly 160 million dogs is insufficient data, and I agree.
Well, Purina alone claims to feed over 100 million dogs and cats per year in the US - so roughly 1500 reports out of over 100 million (more if you include the other brands) is insufficient data to say food is the issue with what is being claimed in a certain circle of people right now as well. It is, statistically, zero. (Although not zero to those who blaim the food for their dogs ills, admittedly.)
Dr. Morgan also said it was wrong to have a list of "bad" companies without proof when it came to DCM, yet that same group mentioned above that Dr. Morgan is a contributor to is doing just that right now with a list of companies they are claiming are causing health issues that they cannot prove are causative. So it does seem to be a bit of confirmation bias induced "they are wrong to do it, but we are right because we are just." My doberman Niko was diagnosed with DCM when he was 5. I fed him Orijin and Acana his whole life. Passed 2 years later after I spent thousands at the cardiologist. I am 99.99% sure it was genetic.
Just got a dobbie pup (DNA test indicates 1 copy of the DCM2 gene). Was told to avoid PULSE, but I transitioned her to raw meats and fresh fruits and veggies (mostly organic) plus supplements.
Some bought and some homemade... I noticed that her freeze dried raw food has taurine listed (last ingredient though).
***I am not a dog nutritionist,*** but I will not feed my pup corn, rice, peas, or these grain inclusive dog foods that are nothing but ultra processed carbs with farm factory animal waste and leftover grease.
I consider this my own "experiment." My first doberman lived to 13 and ate "junk" pet food, people foods, (even stole a pumpkin pie from the countertop at thanksgiving). He had several fatty tumors and I wondered if it was related to GMOs so I changed the diet of my next pup.
My second doberman, Niko, ate "boutique" pet food and no people food. Passed at 7 from DCM.
My new pup will eat a nutritionally balanced appropriate raw diet and have minimum exposure to endocrine disrupters. My Goal is to improve her longevity and wellbeing. She eats quail, duck, and chicken eggs from my own birds and plays in the dirt to boost her microbiome. I also alternate her probiotics to give her microbiome diversity. I use castile soap (and nothing with the word "fragrance" in it) for her baths and she smells and looks wonderful. I am doing my best with the knowledge I have, but I will take any additional advice into consideration.
PS Just purchased organic ground beef 93% buy one get one free ($4.50/lb each final price) and organic ground turkey for $2 ($9off) for anyone wondering if switching from big brand foods is expensive. Hope this helps someone out there.
Thank you Dr. Judy for making a difference. We appreciate your efforts and I am very grateful for the work you do.

PS: I only give her about her paw size worth of liver. • @JesseDavis
      @JesseDavis 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@GermanShepherdDaphneYes - it is good for them, just like us - but just like us, they are healthy at certain levels and unhealthy at others. If you fed your dog only steak they would have all kinds of nutritional deficits - same with corn, or any one thing by itself. Many studies have shown that wolves eat a ton of stuff other than prey. From the International Wolf Center: "Various studies of scat from the 1970s through the 1990s revealed fruit such as cherries, berries, apples, pears, figs, plums, grapes and melon in wolves’ diets ... " others have shown they eat other plant matter and even grains, grasses, and seeds. [And Maned Wolves specifically eat a lot of vegetables and fruits along with a lot of insects.] That is not to say that wolves diets are not largely made up of prey - but to say that don't eat a lot of other stuff too is incorrect. People grossly oversimply these things too much. Everything can turn to glucose in your system - simple sugars just spike your blood sugar levels where other things convert at a slower rate and are also used in other ways by the body.
      Creating Glucose
Carbohydrates consist of molecules of sugar, which your body digests into glucose and uses for energy. When you're short on carbs, glucose can be created from fat and protein in a process called gluconeogenesis. Gluconeogenesis takes place mostly in your liver, which also has the job of maintaining a steady amount of glucose in your blood. If blood sugar drops too low due to problems in the liver, your kidneys can boost blood sugar by converting the amino acid glutamine into glucose.
      Metabolizing Fats
The saturated and unsaturated fats in your diet consist of two substances bound together: glycerol and fatty acids. During digestion, they're separated, and each one follows a different path. Glycerol is easily metabolized and used to make glucose. Fatty acids are carried to tissues throughout your body, where they help build cell walls, produce hormones and digest fat-soluble nutrients. Fatty acids can be converted into another substance called acetyl CoA, which is used to create energy, but they're not turned into glucose.
      Turning Protein into Glucose
After you eat protein-containing foods, they're digested and broken down into individual amino acids, which cells then use to rebuild new proteins. Amino acids also have a variety of other jobs, such as helping to produce neurotransmitters and antioxidants. Your body can use all of the amino acids except lysine and leucine to make glucose. Some of the amino acids have the ability to become glucose and fatty acids, while lysine and leucine can only be used to synthesize fatty acids.

Soon after my male started collapsing took him in he also turned out to have DCM as well. He also died within 3 months from the same thing! My dogs were not related at all. I found out my males father had a genetic form of DCM was the main reason he got it, but his father still is alive at 10 the difference being his father was never fed grain free dog food. I'm so sorry to hear this, boxers are the sweetest. We adopted our senior blind boxer from a Boxer Rescue org two years ago and per the adoption agreement they made us promise NOT to feed our boxer any food with legumes (chickpeas, lentils, etc.), pulses, nor potatoes (including no sweet potatoes) in it per that concerning DCM study as these foods are possibly problematic (taurine is another possibility). It's been challenging to find foods that he does ok on that don't have those ingredients, but we are honoring the avoiding that bc he seems at risk for DCM and who knows what he's eaten all these years already. Did a short experiment with him on ONLY raw food and he did GREAT - his coat looked better right away, he had more energy, etc. but it's definitely a learning curve for us to try to manage, a balance but we are trying to navigate the best options with a mix of kibble and raw meat.
