Structuring teams around singular gymnasts is what cost the US gold in Tokyo. That team was not constructed in a way that it could stand on its own without Simone. When you only have 4 gymnasts on a team, they have to be able to hold their own in case one goes down, which unfortunately, Simone did. In the gymnasts’ defense, though, that 4 person per team rule was ridiculous. If the IOC is going to have each country send 6 athletes, why do two of them have to only be specialists?? Having two more capable gymnasts in the team final would have made a world of difference.
Personally I had Simone,Shilese, Jade, Jordan, and Skye. Leanne and Jordan are similar except Jordan is better on VT & FX. Jade would’ve been favored for a VT medal. Leanne was competing with Jordan & Jocelyn was competing with Jade.
