    It's funny how people who virtue signal for underrepresented countries completely ignore the fact that the Philippines is just as, if not even more, underrepresented in women's gymnastics. The last time it was able to send female gymnasts in the Olympics was 60 years ago! Emma Malabuyo and other Fil-Am athletes are indirect product of talent drain that has been happening in the Philippines for many years, I think it's more than fair for the Philippines to tap its better trained diaspora to represent the country. Does recruiting foreign-born athletes mean that the local program is being neglected? Absolutely not. The very reason these quality athletes were invited to represent country is because they produce results. More result means more attention, sponsorship, and ultimately funding for the grassroots program. Who knows? A native-born Filipino kid out there may get inspired from her ate Aleah, ate Levi, and ate Emma's Olympic stint.

    The men’s team selection is not like the women’s team, there is very little discretion involved. Looking at the criteria they heavily emphasize highest scoring team and look at all four scores from trials and nationals which is why Asher and Curran are basically already eliminated. Brody, Fred, and Khoi will go barring a major meltdown. Yul has a very strong chance especially if he hits PBars for 15.3+ at least once. Stephen is the one who controls his own destiny because if he hits pommels for 15+ both days there is no one who will end up on a higher scoring team than him using either of the two criteria they’re looking at (average of all four scores or drop the low score and average the top 3). Which will mean he is locked into the team. After Stephen, Paul looks to have the next best shot at the team because of his margin on floor over Khoi and on vault over Yul. But he cannot afford another fall on either event (or high bar). Donnell also has a decent chance but he really needs to get a good 14.8+ score in for his vault, otherwise he doesn’t add enough on that event. Shane has a small chance but basically would require misses from Stephen and Paul. They basically don’t care at all in the criteria that Stephen has no other events as long as he is on the highest scoring team using both calculation methods.

    • @cocoroni1031
      @cocoroni1031 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's a bummer because the USA MAG team doesn't take pacing into consideration. My ideal 5th member would be someone who can cover at least 3 team events, good 5.6+ vault and have some EF potential. Stephen is already on the highest scoring team in a row. Fred, Khoi, Yul helped Stephen a lot by flopping on PH. If they flop again and Stephen hits on PH at trial, Stephen is almost locked by the automatic program. But that is too risky for a team medal. Stephen will give you a 15 or 12 at possibly a 50% chance under TF.

      @@gymjam2024 yeah, it's very silly in my opinion especially with Brody looking so fragile but that's what it seems they're going for. I do ultimately think he'll make the team, but it's not a for sure deal to me yet. I think Brody, Fred, and Khoi are the only locks. The final 2 spots are up for grabs, but one will go to either Donnell or Asher. I'm hoping Yul is the 4th spot, but I could realistically see it being Shane Wiskus or Paul Juda. I hope they don't go with Stephen Nedoroscik or Curran Phillips because that would be putting all of your eggs in one basket. As great as they are on pommel and P bars respectively, neither of them could be counted for on any other event. Shane and Paul can both score in the 14s on at least 4 different events each.

      💯 If it were a 6 man team, you can risk taking a 1 event specialist, but with only 5 spots, it is too much of a gamble. If someone were to go down, the team would be in deep trouble.

      Curran Phillips has 3 contributing events [5.2 vault, 6.9 (15.6+) parallel bar, 5.9 (14+) high bar], 1 backup floor, and he's a strong medal contender on parallel bar. Stephen Nedoroscik only has one, and his PH is either 15 or 12. My ideal team is Brody, Fred, Khoi, Yul, Donnell. But the program favors Brody, Fred, Khoi, Yul, Stephen, so it's actually 4-3-3...

      @@cocoroni1031 The U.S. is weak on pommels, vault, and rings compared to China and Japan. But Khoi, Brody, Fred and Yul could all put up good enough scores on pommels (if they hit). How does the program favor Stephen over Donnell when Donnell is the only one who could qualify to two event finals, and put up scores on two other events as well?

      @@captainbryce1 MAG doesn't select based on people. The computer program is already there. It doesn't matter if Khoi, Brody, Fred and Yul will contribute good PH score. Khoi (day 1), Fred, Yul bombed or scored very low at nationals. Stephen is consistently on the highest scoring team by two measures (average + highest). If he hits another PH routine at Olympic Trials, he's nearly locked to Paris. It's just how stupid the program is.

      @@captainbryce1 Also, China gives up team (both MAG and WAG) for individual gold from what I heard. It's sad that USA will not capitalize the opportunity because of the stupid program. The only chance Donnell / Paul can get the 5th spot is when Stephen flops both days and insane judges don't lowball 6 vaults.

  • @captainbryce1
    @captainbryce1 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    If we're just going off of what we saw at Nationals, then it has to be Donnell. And I wasn't even looking at P bars or floor. Just based on vault and rings alone, Donnell has been more consistent. If Asher outperforms him (significantly) at trials, then I'll switch my answer to Asher, but if they score very close to each other or Donnell slightly outscores him in those two events, then it's him for sure. I also think Donnell is a sentimental favorite with this being likely his last opportunity, whereas Asher should be around for many years to come. But I'm not factoring in to my selection criteria at all.

    The MAG's bum ass automatic program may pick Stephen Nedoroscik. If he hits another high 14 while others flop on pommel horse, he's taking the 5th spot. But who knows if he will show up a 15 or a 12 (like 2022), or Bordy's legs f-ed up in TF...🤡MAG's selection criteria is stupid. On top of that, Donnell was lowballed by the insane judging on RSG vault (USA MAG are you going to use 5.2 5.2 5.6 vaults while other top teams are stacking at least 5.6 5.6 5.6 vaults ??????). Right now, the program favors Stephen > Paul > Donnell > Asher for the 5th spot....

PH is always dangerous for everyone but if he's a specialist and this is his only contribution, falling isn't and option. If Khoi falls on PH but does other events like at World's, he's still contributing to the team in other ways.

But great strides from Skye and she would be a lock if they had to chose now but I expect everyone apart from Kayla to respond big time with upgrades at Trials. Congrats to Skye who truly lit a fire on the selection process with that Cheng! The only clear thing is we have our 7 girls on the Team/Alternates

    You know I'm like the biggest Jade stan in the world, but my girl really does need to bring ALL her difficulty. I have every faith in her, she always comes in clutch when she has to. I get why she didn't bring upgrades to championships. She doesn't need them yet. She still finished 7th with a fall and barely above college difficulty. I wouldn't show everything i got that early either. They need that peak to last THROUGH the Olympics, not burn out right before it counts. I think her pacing is perfect and she's going to show tf out at trials (god i hope so).

      Jade has to. A FIG brevet judge deducted Jade only 1.7 (without artistry deduction) with one big step on day 1. Her leaps are only .1 deduction each, so dance elements are no longer her weakness. Domestic judges really crushed her by maximum artistry deduction.🤡 Meanwhile, the judge deducted nearly A FULL POINT off from Kayla's beam score (7.3E maximum, not 8.1E BS)🥴
