  • After so many years of being disappointed with trying to cook on a low kettle BBQ, I have decided to solve the problem and make a multi purpose garden trolley that will accept a BBQ, work surfaces and ice buckets and can be used for all kinds of garden activities - most of which I haven't even thought of yet!

    The most brilliant piece of garden furniture I have ever seen, Stuart. I have a bad back, so I need a workbench high area to work 90% of the time. It's only occasionally that I have a BBQ and I had one of those huge gas things that I eventually freecycled as it just took up space in my garage and was rarely used. This is ideal - a sometimes-BBQ-potting-table.

    • @ProperDIY

      Well thank you - it seemed sensible to me as like yourself, the BBQ is not a very often used item especially if you live in the UK.

    the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

    I'm just putting the final touches to my own BBQ cart built using your method. I've made the BBQ section out of hardwood decking boards rather than concrete. Using stove rope stops the heat transfer from the kettle to the wood almost completely. My challenge is that my BBQ is 57cm, which is pretty large, meaning that the top has to be big enough to accommodate a 52cm cutout. I'm not saying the cart is over-sized, but I've just had a request from the Royal Navy to borrow it to practice landing their F-35's on it. It's a great design and pretty easy to build though, so thanks Stuart.

  • @squintclinic
    @squintclinic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great, achievable innovation! I love working with concrete formers, I cast all our kitchen worktops using Rockbond fibre reinforced mix. The only real issue was the logistics of starting off with a 3m x 2m piece of melamine board. Obviously the final weight is a consideration too. Here’s hoping for some good weather for you!

    • @ProperDIY
      @ProperDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    As many others have already said, this is a cracking project & video. I already have a gas BBQ, a Greek style charcoal kebab BBQ / spit roaster & a pellet fired pizza oven, one can never have too many garden cooking options.
    However, this trolley is so useful I think it deserves to be added to my garden cooking fleet! I may not do the BBQ insert but definitely the ice bucket insert & the potting tray top are on my list of Thunderbird 2 "pods". The only thing holding me back is where to store it? My garage is already crammed & I have no shed. I might have to consider making it demountable so I can store it in component part form for reassembly as & when needed. Either that or, make it part of my existing run of garage work benches which are combination of old kitchen units / worktops & other fill in pieces. A bit of thought needed but definitely something I want to have a go at. 👍 🍺

    Thanks for few ideas. Not sure if the "storage" especially flammable storage under the BBQ is any good - > you probably should add a fire resistant layer under the BBQ so that hot ashes would not start any unwanted fire.
    Personally I've been collecting ideas for my kamado type BBQ/grill, what kind of trolley, work surface and etc to create. the configuration idea is great. another question is if and how could I make my kamado bbq (nearly 100KG) detachable from the trolley for potting occasions or etc.

    I may be wrong but i was under the impression that as concrete was made with water it can quite violently fail when exposed to high temperates for sustained time, as in with a bbq.

    Why is the theme tune so catchy, I am sure it's familiar but don't know where from. Anyway another super video, I have watched them all and always very good content.

    Great content. I'll definitely be watching some more of yours. Do the screws in the heat-proof rope not scratch the BBQ enamel?

      Thanks. No, because if you screw them in tight the rope is always protruding in front of the screws

    I don't know If you covered it or not but won't the screw you put into the rope damage the finish on the barbecue. Just wondering.

    • @ProperDIY
      @ProperDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The screw squeezes into the rope quite a lot so it is well away from the surface where the BBQ sits against
