    You're gut instinct to make clean plans for your builds just in case people want to build them, is akin to data scientists just making a 'small' macro or program just in case they need to do something again. Love it

    The mesh was absolutely correct, that’s what construction crews use in thinner pours like slabs. Rebar is more for footers and other structural elements.

    You were absolutely correct in suspending the mesh in the concrete. If it sinks to the bottom, it will stick out of the set concrete at the bottom and will rust inwards from there eventually cracking the concrete it is in contact with.
    By the way, you had a really nice consistency in your concrete mix. Not too soupy, and not too dry. 😊

    Quick concrete mixing tip for small projects. One sack of concrete to one gallon of water (+/-) and mix in a 5gal bucket with a wide paddle mixer and an angle drill on slow speed. Works like a charm.

    A little tip. If you want clean sides to your concrete, use a trowel or similar to slide down the sides of your boxing in an up down motion while the concrete is wet. This takes out the bubbles and gives it a smooth surface.

    I’m just the messenger: your Weber grill grates are upside down. So were mine. So were the guy’s who told me. I swear it was photographed wrong on the box. But you want the flat side up, it cooks so much better with more surface area on the cast iron.

    To make concrete have a more liquid consistency use rapid set flow control and to give yourself more working time before the concrete hardens use rapid set set control.

  • @jewdd1989
    @jewdd1989 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Gorgeous as always!!! Love the cedar my favorite wood but against that grey and the pops of red makes it stunning. The concrete top turned out great. Usually they add some powdery liquidizer whatever it’s called to get that watery consistency but it was great to know that it won’t be liquidy just because you add more water because I didn’t know that. At least you know your concrete is stronger without the extra water 👍🏼 It’s stunning and it’ll last a long time and be functional as most grills suck at offering storage, counter space and good looks too lol!

    Missed this video. Normally in a slab foundation, since the pour is done at once the rear sits on chairs to give it the clear cover it needs to resist corrosion. In you case I would have done a bit of the pour, placed the mesh then placed the rest of the concrete on top.
    The mesh should be at the center if you don't know which way it is going or favored toward the side that will be facing down as the wire mesh is to assist tension since concrete has poor tensile properties.
    P.S. As for the air bubbles, unless you have a way to vibrate the form you'll constantly run into that issue. You can try lightly dropping each end of the form, bit it's effect will be minimal.

    Great project and really loved the video. If I could offer a little bit of advice for a stronger cabinet in the future. If you look at 24:58 you'll notice that your end gable is on the side of your base. As your wheels (or legs in some cases) are mounted inside of the end gable, all the weight being carried by the gable is mostly unsupported (just your tenons). I've seen this, and had to fix many times. For a stronger cabinet box, especially when using legs or wheels, make sure the base goes the full width of the cabinet to support the gables. Great project just the same!!

    I haven't worked with concrete myself, but am going to in the future and have been watching videos on it. From what i have noticed is that projects that use big box concrete the coloring attempts seldom work and they remain largely shades of gray. The ones who use the GFC like Modustrial have fantastic results with color.
    My speculation is that the standard bags of concrete have a more coarse and larger grains of sand in them The GFC type of concrete is more powder like sand. I wonder if that has something to do with it.
