So happy to know I’m not alone with having a difficult time weeding dots!!!
Alicia Tengwall you’re definitely not!
Nope definitely not!
I find weeding some of the fonts absolutely ridiculous, they lift up altogether and when you're trying to pull the vinyl you don't need a way it comes up with it it's just drives me crazy. Lol😜😜😜
I’m so glad I found this video!!! I had my first successful vinyl cut and weed today thank you so much for making this!
alley I’m so glad to hear that! You’re welcome!
Wow.. i wish i had seen this video last night. i just wasted so much vinyl because it got wacked during the weeding process and i ended up redoing the whole thing using a thicker font. THANK YOU FOR THIS TUTORIAL!!!
This video literally upped my weeding game big time! Thank you so much!!!
You’re welcome! I’m so glad it helped!
Hi Katie, I wanted to thank you for your video. I was growing very frustrated with a project with a lot of small words and after searching on TH-cam, I found your video and it was a game changer. I was able to finish the projects. Thanks for sharing!
bethlehem79 I am so glad to hear that! Thank you for letting me know! Continue making amazing things!
I tried this technique and it worked great for me! Thanks so much for sharing. Very helpful!
I’m so glad! You’re welcome!
so! today you saved my sanity, tomorrow's a new day though. thank you.
Eugene Kaub you’re welcome! Glad i could help at least one day!
Thanks for sharing this technique! For my first project I used t-shirt vinyl and it was so easy to weed. I did not know what to expect with self-adhesive vinyl.
georgia papadakis you’re welcome! Adhesive vinyl is much different but this is great for smaller designs!
Thanks for the tips! So glad to know I’m not the only one who has trouble with the dots! I haven’t tried reverse weeding before so I will try this next time! Thank you!
Lee causey you’re welcome!
So, I get that whole reverse weeding process, but how do you keep those tiny dots from not comimg off your objects once you apply it, particularly with permanent vinyl?
Im about to throw my cricut out the WINDOOOWWWWWW!!
Taylor Wills what happened?
This made me laugh so hard as I’m on my third try of wasting sheets of vinyl before I decided to watch a tutorial 😩
Just bought mine today! This is so useful ❤️ thank you
You’re welcome! And congratulations!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! You just saved me a ton of time and stress!
You’re so welcome!
Thank you so much! From a beginning welder.
You’re welcome!
I will HAVE to give this a try !!! Thanks
CindyLoustodos Allen you’re welcome!
This video was incredibly helpful! Thank you so much. I’m decent with iron on, but small font has been a struggle! I appreciate you!💙
You’re welcome! I’m so glad it helped!
Excellent video! Thank you for your tips!!
Rachel Hadley thank you! And you’re welcome!
Worked great! Thanks for making the video! I wasted hours and lots of vinyl on my project before I gave up and found your video!
Amy Hubred you’re welcome! I’m sorry you wasted so much vinyl but I’m glad you got it all worked out!
I have an explore air and I am having trouble even cutting the vinyl with small lettering and of course when I go and weed it pulls the letters off, are you using the blade that came with the machine or a fine point blade?
Lise Roy I am using the premium fine point blade that came with the machine. Washi sheet with more pressure is the setting I use.
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 so with cricut settings less means more? for example my cut pressure for vinyl is 171and for washi sheet its 169. i have an air 2.
It will depend on your material. When doing smaller/thinner designs, less pressure helps prevent tearing but not for all materials. For cardstock, there is an intricate cuts settings that is amazing! But I wouldn’t use washi sheet for cardstock.
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 its for vinyl. my lettering seems to come up with all the excess vinyl that isnt part of my design. making it really hard to get anything done.ive allready wasted alot of vinyl because i cant seem to get it right.. ive even upped my pressure mfrom 171 to 177 and still
How big is your design? Sometimes, no matter the setting, the font just won’t work very small.
What if the pieces that you’re losing are pieces you need? I’ve been trying to use a design and it has very small lines and what not that need to stay for the image but while it’s cutting, it unfortunately releases from the backing. Anyone have any tips?
If you’re using the washi sheet setting with more pressure and you’re still losing them then it’s likely your design is just too thin/small. I personally use Inkscape to thicken up my fonts a little to get around this issue
thank you
You’re welcome!
Will this work on inkjet printed images too cuz i wanna make a shirt with small lettering but was wondering how im gonna line them up perfect onto the shirt.
You don’t use transfer tape for printed images so this wouldn’t work
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 thanks for the heads up. In my case what should i use then? I dont plan on ever using vinyl. Im Just printing mu designs onto 3g opaque dark garment transfer papers but this is one huge headache im stuck on is how to get letters and details to look the way i printed em so i csn just put em on a shirt
EatThe Dead usually when it’s just letters people use regular HTV, not printed. Without being able to see your design it’s hard for me to say but printable vinyl is meant just for very complex designs that you couldn’t layer but that are big enough to hand place
Im going to give this a try tomorrow! I had such a hard time tonight not with the weeding. But trying to transfer to vinyl go thr transfer tape. Hoping this way will help with that. Not sure tho
Worth a shot! Good luck! 🤞🏻🤞🏻
You were all over the place.
Thank you!
hi! excellent video. Can you tell me where i can find tha amazing weeding tool
Yolanda Díaz Díaz Amazon!
Hi! What setting did you use to cut the letters?! I cant find the maker option. This is a great step by step instruction video!!
juligirl219 just the regular vinyl setting!
Katie O'Donnell-Vicente do you know what your setting was at for it?
juligirl219 I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Vinyl is a preset setting, I never make changes to my settings so it’s always the default.
Did I miss what brand of transfer tape you are using?
Juli Kirk contact paper from Wal-Mart!
I not only wasted 4-5 hours but also wasted a lot of material trying to weed small letters and finally gave up to continue tomorrow. Thank you for your video, will try again tomorrow but can you please share the font name that you used for your project. Thank you.
You’re welcome! This video is a few years old so I would have to look back and see if I have the font saved but I will let you know if I find it!
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 No worries, thank you for your prompt reply.
You’re welcome! This is the font I used!
www.creativefabrica.com/product/anysome/ref/38654/
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 thank you so much. I'll try this font today.
You’re so welcome!
Hi I am new to your channel. Thank you for sharing this awesome weeding technique. I really like your weeding tool. Where did you purchased it from? ❤️🤗
Neida Anderson you’re welcome! I got it on amazon a few years ago, it’s a Tim holtz weeding tool!
Katie O'Donnell-Vicente thank you 😊
Neida Anderson you’re welcome!
This is great. Thank you!!
Lily19 Bella you’re welcome!
Me too I wasted so much vinyl want to cry I just walked away and gave up on my Cricket right now😭😭😭😭🔨🔨
Jamie P oh no! The tiny letters can get you! Try something a little bigger so you don’t get discouraged!
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 But when you try and create neck labels they are suppose to be small. There must be some hacks available to do this
I’ve never had an issue cutting and weeding small stuff. I know some people do but materials and settings should always be taken in to account
I just gave up today...first while cutting it lifted all vinyl ...then it started cutting thru vinyl...I just gave up...ughhh...
What material were you cutting? What settings were you using? How big was your design?
Great video. Ok I have a lot of o's ,a's &e's. my font sz is 24
Thank you! Reverse weeding should make it much easier!
Thank you so much for making this video! I can't wait to try this technique.
You’re welcome! I hope it helps!
First time trying this..but...I kept touching the vinyl.
Is this destroying - or --acceptable?
Thanks!
cppeekaboo touching the back that’s sticky?
Let me try again. My first attempt at weeding was an epic fail. Lol
It does take some getting used to!
what do you do when the blade cuts the letters but also lifts it up. what setting do you use then?
If it lifts the letters and you’re using washi sheet setting then your design is too small
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 its a word that is about 0.40 or 0.30 inches
What material are you using and what setting?
for some reason i am having a really hard time with the glitter viynl ...just with the smaller lettering...i have used
every setting i have seen on these channels from the vinyl to the washi setting blade is new ive only had it for
maybe a month or so everything else seems to come out i have wasted so much glitter viynl im about
to scream any help on this....
Toni McDonald if it’s just regular Cricut glitter vinyl there is a custom glitter vinyl setting. If it’s iron on there is a custom glitter iron on setting. If it’s the new Cricut shimmer permanent glitter there is a custom setting for that too. Not sure which machine you have but if you search through try those, do small test cuts first.
hello, what is the type of weeding tool did you use, and where can i get one from.
Annise Smith it is a tim holtz weeding tool and I got it from amazon!
I searched for this video because I just had a heck of a time trying to weed a small skinny font. Yes, I ruined it. I will try again tomorrow and use a box around the script. I couldn’t help but feel like some of my vinyl letters were not really cut all the way through. Can this be a thing? I don’t think it’s the blade because the machine is new and I’ve only cut 3 or 4 designs. Maybe I just need more practice.
Could be your setting. What setting were you using?
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 I set the turn wheel to vinyl.
Set it to custom and washi sheet with more pressure
Thanks! I’ll try that.
You’re welcome!
I tried this step by step and it keeps wanting to do a print & cut. Not regular cut tried a few times
Check your image, it sounds like that is set to print then cut
Katie what is the name/brand of weeding tool you are using? I like it!
Bobbie Brown it’s this one!
Tonic Studios Tim Holtz 372 Retractable Craft Pick www.amazon.com/dp/B0013AKBLY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ckeJCbHS62T7K
I always loose the dots of the i. What am I doing wrong?
Desiree Schweiger if they’re very tiny it can be hard to avoid losing them. Sometimes I cut the dots separately using the washi sheet setting and then place them after the fact, tends to save a lot of frustration!
Did u mirror the image still
This is adhesive vinyl going on the right side of my blank so no need to mirror!
What font did you use for the words?
www.creativefabrica.com/product/anysome/ref/38654/
This one!
I cant seem to figure out how to do the thin cursive fonts on my cricut it never seems to work... do you have any tips!!
Are you having issues with cutting or weeding?
Katie O'Donnell-Vicente I was having problem with the cutting I haven’t heard of the washi setting I may try it but I did use a thin cursive yesterday and it worked 🤣
The washi setting is great! I usually add more pressure and it’s so easy to weed!
Thank you so much ..I was getting very frustrated...
You’re welcome!
Mine doesn't do that. Nothing comes off..it just sit there and looks at me like what
Didn't work for me unfortunately
Where is the washi setting on my Cricut explore 2?
Turn your dial to custom and it will let you search your materials and it’s there!
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 thank you!!!
You’re welcome!
This idea is good but 1 problem this idea not work on heat transfer machine coz tranfer tabe mailt nd garment destroy any idea how to retranfer on tranfer sheet nd apply heat machine
akash fitness when using heat transfer vinyl it will already be like this and you just remove the excess vinyl, that’s what the clear sheet is on your HTV/iron on
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 i know but some time small letter same problem like this vinyl my vinyl cut small leter after cutting letter slipping. Any idea how to solve this issue
akash fitness I’ve never had an issue with small letters but you could try rubbing your scrapper carefully but firmly over the design after you cut to see if that will adhere it to the carrier sheet more
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 yah i do every thing but unfortunately not work on my vinyl little bit old my vinyl so any issues on old vinyl or new vinyls
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 i yesterday one customer order 2500 pieces of small letters vinyl for lycra but unfortunately my design text not stick in sheet nd letters slipping the exact positions so my order are cancels please help
If u turn the mat over and pull that up from the vinyl it don't curl on you 🙃love the video tho
Today is my first day using the maker. I ended up losing a dot and found it on my shirt LOL
Welcome to crafting 😂
What walmart contact paper is that?
Meggab7 www.walmart.com/ip/Con-Tact-18-x-20-Clear-Shelf-Liner/161863478
Where did you get your weeding tool😍
April Most amazon! It’s tim holtz!
what's a "washy sheet"?
P Washi sheets are a thinner material so using that setting on thicker materials with more pressure can usually create a better cut on some thicker vinyl.
Do yourself a favor and get some paper transfer tape from expression vinyl. So much better than contact paper, and just as cheap
thomas cope I’m not a fan of the paper transfer tape but I do have a few transfer tapes that I really love besides contact paper.
Can’t really see what you are doing- camera too far and your hand is in the way and as a beginner I don’t really feel it has helped me understand this.
Myndi Orr I’m sorry you feel that way! Sometimes watching a video a few times makes it more helpful so i hope a few views will make it easier for you to understand!
Is that regural vinyl or htv?
Adhesive vinyl
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 can you do reverse weeding with htv?
It’s already like reverse weeding! Because it comes already on the carrier sheet it’s exactly like reverse weeding adhesive vinyl but easier!
@@katieodonnell-vicente6632 how do you make weeding easier for fine details on htv then?
I’ve never had an issue with fine details but if you are experiencing issues you can try holding pieces down with your scraper as you pull the excess material away
Omg my dots are the problem as well ughh
Always!
I hate weeding Rae Dunn letters ugh... small skinny letters =_
Yes mam that is what happened to me.
Why make anything so small?
LARRYMORE MCKENZIE lots of different reasons. Shot glasses, small glasses
Your volume is really low.
Your design space is already set. What's going on with the Right side of the design space? You already had all of that up when starting your video. It would have been nice for you to explain what your doing on the right side of the design space! Not helpful for me.
It was just my design set up and ready to cut. That doesn’t change how to set up a weeding box or reverse weed
Thank you for the info but please stop saying “I’m going to just..” lol sorry not trying to be mean...I bet you don’t realize how often you say it...
Thanks so much! Great tutorial!!!! :-)
