I havne't seen Concussion yet but I have seen Sicario. How the hell did Benicio not get a nomination? There was such an anxiety inducing disquietude to his character. Freaking awesome performance.
John Hardin - This is my 2nd one.. After Ryan and Taraji.. Oh my, Do I need to stop now? I'l prolly be chasing your eps right now if I continue.. Lol..
Good list...sadly so many more! I think BBT rarely gets his due because of his eccentric personal life and that whole period with Angelina Jolie. But he makes interesting choices, is a fantastic and unique actor not to mention a great director/writer to boot (Sling Blade, One False Move). I'm never not bored when he's on screen which is one reason why I'm glad the first season of Fargo seems to have revived his career. Plus Fargo was/is bloody fantastic and he nearly stole the whole show !
Benicio is definitely reminiscent of great actors of the Golden era such as Dean, Brando, Douglas, Peck. And recently, in the same league as DiCaprio and Penn.
+roter13 Yeah I know poeple say it as a general way of saying older ppl look great, but holy crap this guy literally does not age. He looks better than most people in their late 20's.
Am I the only one that feels like Del Toro is like, a couple of levels above Smiths acting ability. Smith is decent. But Del Toro is like, a godly actor! He's one of those guys that's difficult to tell which roles he actually plays because he can almost meld INTO the character. Sometimes he doesn't even LOOK like himself.
Wodinn Smith has proven himself in countless films I think where people aren't seeing is how Smith has never done a bunch of low radar films and or indie level films that ride on his acting instead of big budgets. Del Toro has had those opportunities to flesh out his ability but both of their careers are extensive and fruitful
I agree with you! Smith is solid and workmanlike with the occasional flash of greatness. Benicio, however, is a shapeshifting genius who always makes in impact, no matter how small or large the role.
+Galactic123 People have been making comic book movies for decades...Comic books have been around since the 1940's. I don't know why you're so amazed by that. They are just interesting graphic novels that are easy to adapt because you have a clear image of the characters/setting and multiple story lines to pick-up material from. Modern film making has advanced to a point where cgi is easy to make them come to life. Nothing ground-breaking amazing about them besides the imagery.
Because the majority of comic book movies that came out in the 40's all through to the 90's have had C-list actors in them and they were cheesy, low-budget films. Even after Spider-Man 1 and Batman, you wouldn't find A-list stars doing comic book films unless they were huge characters. Will Smith is playing a C-list villain in Deadshot and Del Toro is playing an even more obscure fringe character in the Marvel Universe of the Collector.
+Galactic123 Yeah it has changed alot, people love this stuff and actors are naturally being swept up in the craze, I don't think its going to slow down anytime soon. In fact I think its been rapidly pushed forward to do DC version of Marvels Avengers, so much so they are probably screwing up the Batman vs Superman film to do set it up.
the thing about comic book movies is that most people don't even know when they are watching a comic book movie. not every superhero movie is from a comic, and not every comic book movie has superheroes. Johnny Deposit did a comic book movie where he is trying to catch Jack the ripper for example
+TheUnbeholden I don't think Batman V Superman is going to screw up because they are doing it in a different format than Marvel with their Phase 1 and Phase 2 kinda thing.
Interesting duo for sure. Odd pairing but it works. Benicio is such a powerful force of an actor, intense and inhabiting his roles with such natural brilliance. His performances in Traffic and The Usual Suspects are just timeless.
+XTruthAboutTattsX EITHER of them? WHY and HOW should Smith get nominated? He got a Golden Globe nom and Nothing else for an average movie,Del Toro Won several awards, noms aplenty and BAFTA-nommed.... Benicio deserved a nom over Bale... but Smith wasnt close nor should he have been....
Sicario is genius even with just the audio from the moment the movie started playing. i remember using it to piss of my noisy neighbor because the audio is so epic.
What’s very refreshing is seeing Will Smith extremely interested in Benicio’s approach to acting, especially in regards to a character has a completely different mindset than you do. He seemed like he still wants to learn
I saw Will Smith years ago do the Disney Supercalifragilistic.... and he blew it out the park. I told my daughter then that anyone who can rock a song like that and make an awesome video to back it up has to be one of the greatest future entertainers of our time. She asked me why did I think Will would be such a great entertainer and I said because all his stuff is fresh and it'll cross over. Next thing I knew, Fresh Prince came out and the legend began. Now Benicio, very under-rated. Benicio is one of the greatest actors of our time. I'm embarrassed to say my two favorite movies by him was (1) with Alicia Silverstone, Excess Baggage, (2) The Usual Suspects, (3) SICARIO. I love all his movies. And this is an awesome interview with two of my favorite actors of all time!
It's really interesting to hear the two just express their opinion about their work as actors and how they process with what they did for the movie that they were working for at the time.
First film I saw him in after the Usual Suspects. Love when he pops up in little supporting bits like that :-). Always does the best with whatever material he has..
Whaaa?!?!?! Why I am SO surprised many other women think Benicio is a stud! I have been in love with him since I was a young girl. Watching him like..."damn." His vibe just oozes sexy to me😍 Will on the other hand, I look at him like I look at my brother lol. Whoever thought to get these 2 together, props. Love em!
+Mo Goris Well I am, so next time you check, before coming at me... The point is,It really is distracting when trying to get a story about your people and the language doesn't look like you. This isn't the first. Does it take much to just cast an actor from that region(Just like Disney or most British fairytale stories seems exclusively for the Brits)? To think that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje played Dave Duerson and all he could be was an antagonist to Dr Omalu, and even yell words Like "Go back to Africa" or that we had another Nigerian, Eme Ikwuakor as Amobi Okoye. Their stature may not fit Dr Omalu's build but they would have gotten months to prepare for the role. Or you have Danny glover or Idris Elba orMorgan Freeman(who did awesome by the way, even in appearance) as Mandela or Forest Whitaker for Idi amin? Is it when you need a pirate to hijack Captain Philip's ship or some drug lord or a Role with social vices that you need a real native to play the part I think it's time the people of those regions tell their story, and How it mattered to then, And in fact win awards for telling it...Just saying. I know it is not easy to nail and accent, but attempt to do it well. It didn't even sound like our east or south African neighbors either. Enough said...
Oh I see you wanted a nigerian actor to play that role so his "accent" is on point, I get it, yea not góna happend, that's the world we live in, and i tjought the guy on captain phillips was somali. You just don't like Will Smith, that's all.
He was in an American boys school since he was 12. So he caught the American accent really well. So when he speaks English that's his natural American accent. He has a raspy voice which makes him more interesting.
+Alanis Sassoon I hear quite a lot of Spanish in his accent. He consistently replaces 'z' with 's' and sometimes 'th' with 'd'. He doesn't usually aspirate 't's in the middle of words and sometimes he drops them all together. His vowels aren't nearly as flat as american's and he does something with 'L's that I can't explain. He flips an 'r' here and there and slurs 'd's when he's talking fast. Also his malapropisms are common among native Spanish speakers. Words like decision become 'desishun', painting is 'paining', Tracy is 'Trazey' and concern is 'concern' as opposed to the american 'cunsern'. I've also heard his american accent in The Wolfman and it's spot on, so I know he can do it really well but it's not necessarily natural.
This might be my favorite one yet. Great questions and great answers. And you can tell by their body language that they're both engaged and having a conversation with someone they respect. 10/10 would lust after them both again
i fist saw benecio in wolfman (i was in paris after graduating hs) and I was in love with his face, and then i saw his acting. very swell. but he is a hottie. such a hottie. things we lost in the fire.... mm.
I always felt that will has such a big presence everywhere he go and I can never predict what he is thinking. It's like he is an actor in real life and there is always something on his mind.
He's got Samsonite bags under his eyes like Daryl from Walking Dead. I like Daryl because he's such a bad a$$. Is Benicio DelToro usually the movie bad boy like Daryl? I've only seen him in that werewolf movie and from that I can't see what the hype is about.
How is it possible that Will didn’t know about concussions and football? I can’t imagine not knowing about this. It’s common knowledge and then being a parent and not knowing is even more baffling.
This is one of the Best Actors on Actors Interviews. Really. Thank-You 💝😎🏆 How often do two major Movie Titans get together-on film-unscripted-and just talk like regular people? Not often. Sicario was a wild vicious movie and the acting was stellar! I can see exactly what 😎 Benicio is talking about with his character being conflicted-the team and the entire direction of their goal unravelled rather quickly and he had to take the reigns. He was OUTSTANDING in that role😎🏆🙆. As he truly is in SO many of his films. The most recent HBO series about the two escapees in Upstate New York is one of the most well done and put together films I have ever seen. The cinematography the major cool soundtrack flush beside each scene-Muey Perfecto! And the subject matter for ME-I had ZERO interest in...and yet Benicio and Dana and Arquette-they grabbed me as a viewer and just pulled me right into that whole thing. And damned if I couldn't stop hoping those two worthless scumbags would actually get out!--and Benicio's character--does NOT need to be out. So that was his power. He convinced ME his devils character was good. I feel like Mr. Benicio Del Toro has proven himself as a heavyweight Actor 💪😎🏆time and time again. It would be nice to see him get more Golden opportunities to really Shine. Because he can! And of course...TRAFFIC. Absolute PURE GOLD BENICIO 🏆🏆🏆 All the way! He is doing fabulously and I wish him so many more Brilliant roles-leading seriously Great roles is what he deserves. COOLKAT 😎 Mr. Will Smith NO slouch either, explaining Concussion- I had no idea he felt that way about Football. Then again, I know nothing about the sport. I really loved that movie he was in...with the Lives he tries to go back and fix after the car accident. I cried ...A LOT!!! I thought it was a Magnificent Profound Performance. As are MANY of Will Smith's Movies-I am Legend-The Pursuit of Happyness... He just makes movies with so much HEART 💝💝💝! Best and Brightest Wishes to these two Magnificent Actors. Love them both! Brave Onward! 💝😎🚀💐🏆🏆 ~
Two of the most gorgeous men in the world❤ I want Will Smith to play a real insane bad guy. I know Benicio has no problem playing this type of role. He's typecast as the bad guy often in many of his movies.
Brilliant interview. I love when they're both talking about where they get that thing for their characters, like the way they speak as a certain character.
Del Toro is Ff-ing amazing in Sicario. I love to watch him in any movie. He mostly has supporting roles, I think (don't shoot me, just unverified memory, love to read otherwise) but for me he is always the leading actor. Commanding presence. If he is in it, I watch it. Brilliant actor. Will Smith has come a long way, he still has that chip on his shoulder though, it seems, of not being stage trained. He is a great actor with at times debatable career choices, but he stays that amazing up-top personality who is head strong and willing to go the extra mile to force luck and success into his own corner. Quite an amazing character and very humble. Love that about him, both of them BTW. One little complaint about their talk: it took a while to ease on the alpha thing, and let in the love for each other's performances. Enjoyed it nonetheless! (I know, I'm late to the game, being 4 years ago... ;-)
Benicio talks like he's known you his whole life. cool guy, clearly loves what he does. Will is always engaging and openly passionate.
He sure was…engaging and openly passionate. Mhm.
Benicio is a man that can convince you that he is the devil himself
maybe he is ... to me he looks SCARY AS FUCK
+belia st That's The puerto Rican look lmao
***** he is sexy but hes scary looking
He is scary HOT!
+LAZEDOUT well fucking PUT! Exactly
I havne't seen Concussion yet but I have seen Sicario. How the hell did Benicio not get a nomination? There was such an anxiety inducing disquietude to his character. Freaking awesome performance.
Puff Ball will smith should've gotten a nomination for concussion.
The academy works really odd. Birdman got I don't know how many awards and to me it was garbage.
I could definitely watch Benicio talking for hours. If there was a video of him basically talking to himself I'd watch it haha
same im so in love
I cannot stop watching the series. Help me.
John Hardin same. this was such a great concept
John Hardin - This is my 2nd one.. After Ryan and Taraji.. Oh my, Do I need to stop now? I'l prolly be chasing your eps right now if I continue.. Lol..
I know right, this is my fifth one in a row...they're all so good
I think Benicio Del Toro is in the top three of the best actors alive today.
benicio is massively underrated.
GlarhzillaFox He is an actors actor. He is ridiculously underrated.... Benicio is one of the best actors in the world.
Will is too. Proud of him. A great rapper and a awesome actor.
realitybites771 yes he is
Stacy Williams Will Smith is not underrated at all.
Well, he's a Oscar Winner so... Im proud of him.
Man, some serious charisma in the room with these two.
benicio del toro
Viggo mortensen
mads maklsen
Billy bob Thornton
underrated great actors
Good list...sadly so many more! I think BBT rarely gets his due because of his eccentric personal life and that whole period with Angelina Jolie. But he makes interesting choices, is a fantastic and unique actor not to mention a great director/writer to boot (Sling Blade, One False Move).
I'm never not bored when he's on screen which is one reason why I'm glad the first season of Fargo seems to have revived his career. Plus Fargo was/is bloody fantastic and he nearly stole the whole show !
@YemiHe's got 3 oscars for best actor. He's not underrated at all. "Underrated" doesn't mean "famous".
@Yemi *dont forget about me also im a great actor*
Patrick Wilson
same list as mine
I love Benicio Del Toro. One of my favorite actors ❤
Imagine a Men in black movie where Tommy Lee is retired and Benicio takes over. That would be a movie worth watching!
Agree
nice
+marcusarelius23 what a great idea
That would be great but Josh Brolin as the younger Agent K was fucking spot on
I love this interview. you can tell they enjoyed each other and they have some things in common. seems natural.
Agreed. I have watched a few of them and these guys have an amazing organic chemistry.
Benicio is definitely reminiscent of great actors of the Golden era such as Dean, Brando, Douglas, Peck. And recently, in the same league as DiCaprio and Penn.
Dicaprio and Penn are overrated af.
you cant put dicaprio and penn in the same line with Benicio... Benicio is way better...
Benicio is one of the best ones.
will just refuses to age
+roter13 He drinks demon blood.
+Vincecouk if ur talkin about benicio.. he actually does looks like he does ..
+belia st haha
+roter13 Yeah I know poeple say it as a general way of saying older ppl look great, but holy crap this guy literally does not age. He looks better than most people in their late 20's.
Roter13 lol
benicio is actually a real life bad ass

Retrostar619 Exactly, well put. You worded it MUCH more eloquently than I tried too.
Thank you kindly :-) I'm just glad I wasn't alone in thinking this to be a somewhat uneven pairing. I still enjoyed the conversation though! Wodinn
If you told me 10 years ago both Will Smith and Benicio Del Toro would be in comic book movies I'd tell you that you were nuts.
+Galactic123 People have been making comic book movies for decades...Comic books have been around since the 1940's. I don't know why you're so amazed by that. Benicio is a fantastic actor.
Ali is Will Smiths most underrated work.
In my opinion, best Muhammad Ali movie, he did an amazing job.
oldnbaschool i think he should’ve received an Oscar for Ali. One of the best ever roles in a movie.
Just wait until Jamie Foxx plays Mike Tyson. Should be a great movie
Two extremely attractive good looking men with great talents loving this!
damn benicio still hot af
no. hes old
Benicio Del Toro one of the most underrated actors going
Something about him is scary but he is hot. Benicio Del Toro you are amazing actor.
Wil Smith looks 20 still, Benicio is a good interviewer
Benicio is like the Latin Brad Pitt
Been wondering when they will act together.
Brad is kinda boring tho....
theyre both in snatch but i dont think theyre on screen together
Who does Benicio play in Snatch?
frankie fucking 4 fingers
Great gentlemanly exchange between two high-quality actors. One of my favorites of this series. Thanks for posting.
Benicio del toros so sexy it don't even make sense...
same about you;)
Right
Del Toro’s Alejandro is one of my favorite movie characters of all time!
Benicio is gold!!!
Benicio sooo fine. The way he talks. So cool Hahaa. He's so cool it scares me.
Been crushing on him since forever....we may have to fight...lol
calm down
Can we all share?
"with Bird."
YES!
A friendship was formed this moment.
Interesting duo for sure. Odd pairing but it works. Benicio is such a powerful force of an actor, intense and inhabiting his roles with such natural brilliance. His performances in Traffic and The Usual Suspects are just timeless.
It's a shame that neither of them got nominated for an Oscar this year.
+dj13calli it's cuz they're not white... I know I know, I'm kidding.
Kunga Sagar You could be right.
+Kunga Sagar You mean white Anglo cause Benicio is a white Hispanic.
Okay, but he's still not White as in European. And I'm pretty sure you already knew what I meant.
The coolest actors ever.
Benicio is one of the best actors to ever do it!!
I love Benicio and Will. Both amazing actors.
What a great format for an interview series. I hope we get Director's on Director's next awards season too, that would be fascinating.
They had really nice chemistry. Good talk. Will's ErvingxMurphy crossover is hilarious.
Benicio Del Toro is the man!
Its awesome to see Benicio citing current day actors he took styles and likings to, very interesting
Sicario was so great
Sicario is genius even with just the audio from the moment the movie started playing. i remember using it to piss of my noisy neighbor because the audio is so epic.
Benicio seems reserved and shy in interviews, so it’s nice to see him smiling and relaxed here.
He looks like James dean, he has small cat-like eyes
Some strong analysis work there
What’s very refreshing is seeing Will Smith extremely interested in Benicio’s approach to acting, especially in regards to a character has a completely different mindset than you do. He seemed like he still wants to learn
Will Smith hardly ever pretends to be engaged or interested in a conversation
Love Benicio's work.
They should make a buddy cop movie together.. I'd pay to watch that movie
I saw Will Smith years ago do the Disney Supercalifragilistic.... and he blew it out the park. I told my daughter then that anyone who can rock a song like that and make an awesome video to back it up has to be one of the greatest future entertainers of our time. Amazing video, 2 beasts!
2 assholes.
Benicio del toro😍😍👌🏼
anyone know Benicio from Snatch? That was the first time I saw him!
First film I saw him in after the Usual Suspects. Love when he pops up in little supporting bits like that :-). Always does the best with whatever material he has..
big top peewee for me
schlöer grape you should watch the hunted with tommy lee jones
Where‘s the stone????
First time I saw him was in a James Bond movie. He played some villainous character who was violent and nasty. Made an impression!
Benecio is a great interviewer and is so underrated! And it’s an extra plus bc he is easy on the eyes 👀❤️
I love that they get down to the level of the techniques they use and their confidence as actors. Two great minds thinking at their best.
I'm late to this but I just wanna say I love what Benicio said at 17:31 to 17:40.
Words to live by not just for actors but for everyone.
True. I'm applying this now on learning to play the guitar.
Great cross interview. Benicio especially asked really good questions of Will.
Wow...both are my fav. Speechless....
Benicio de toro takes acting to his own level. You won’t find another benicio del toro.
Two of my favorite actors ever.
I'm sorry...am I the only one who got distracted by Benicio's face? He's so cute in this idek why...
He'll flip ya. Flip ya for real.
Jordan Rios .. . go on, jump in, i love ya (that line from Usual Suspects 😂)
I'm loving this Actors on Actors! Heard of it before but never paid it much mind thanks for the vids.
Love em!
del Toro always brings this simmering understated intensity to his characters. that 1000 yd stare is incredible
This was good they need much longer. Both are great in their different ways.
Benicio Del Toro makes any movie worth watching
But you still messed that accent up, Will. I couldn't even recognize my own Igbo accent or even Nigerian accent. But we love you still... 😊
akumbu sylvia ohuche go ahead and try and nail an accent, one of the hardest things to do..
+Mo Goris Maybe you should to. Try be Nigerian for once.
akumbu sylvia ohuche I am not nigerian..
+Mo Goris Well I am, so next time you check, before coming at me... The point is,It really is distracting when trying to get a story about your people and the language doesn't look like you. So that's what Benicio Del Toro sounds like...very interesting, I don't think he's ever used his own accent in any of his films.

Its Crazy because I'm half Mexican half Costa Rican and to me he almost has no accent whatsoever.
I went to school w/him in 1977-78 and he barely spoke english.
@@MasterArmedforces omg, what's like to know him from so early on and then he becomes this huge worldwide known actor?
The set looks like the front cover on an Ikea catalouge
This might be my favorite one yet. Great questions and great answers. And you can tell by their body language that they're both engaged and having a conversation with someone they respect. 10/10 would lust after them both again
Benicio del Toro is a great actor and fucking manly hot!
Both of them are thinkers, and they're teachers too from my outside looking in. Great conversation 👍👌
"Benny" is great and wonderful... Thank you very much! ❤ 😊

i fist saw benecio in wolfman (i was in paris after graduating hs) and I was in love with his face, and then i saw his acting. very swell. but he is a hottie. such a hottie. things we lost in the fire.... mm.
I always felt that will has such a big presence everywhere he go and I can never predict what he is thinking. It's like he is an actor in real life and there is always something on his mind.
Smith is only a year younger, but he looks about ten years younger.
Underrated Critic Benicio is way more sexier though..ohh papi
He's got Samsonite bags under his eyes like Daryl from Walking Dead. I like Daryl because he's such a bad a$$. Is Benicio DelToro usually the movie bad boy like Daryl? I've only seen him in that werewolf movie and from that I can't see what the hype is about.
Rem Nant Well you need to watch Benicio in The Hunted. Phenomenal film. Then you'll see.
Watch Traffic and 21 Grams. There more great Benicio roles but those are my two favorite.
Rem Nant and The Usual Suspects (they mentioned it in their convo here) he's not even the lead but he total steals the show.
Mr Del Toro is still one of my favourite actors in Hollywood today, along with Mr. Pitt and Mr. Penn.
How is it possible that Will didn’t know about concussions and football? I can’t imagine not knowing about this. It’s common knowledge and then being a parent and not knowing is even more baffling.
two of my favs!!
I'm seriously watching these series all day long😩 it's so interesting
Benicio has those eyes that look right through you, stop yur heart...Sicario dinner table scene at da end. Savage 👊
Two of my favorite actors
This is one of the Best Actors on Actors Interviews. Really. Thank-You 💝😎🏆

He's typecast as the bad guy often in many of his movies.
i can't believe Del Toro is in star wars episode 8!!! insane times man.

Benicio Del Toro... this man's so damn good. For me, his best role is in Las Vegas Parano, so far^^ I really loved him in this one, that was crazy.
I Love me some Benicio Del Toto!!! His eyes oh my goodness!!!

Please Variety never stop doing this Actors and Actors thing. I Love it ♥♥♥
Benicio make more movies dude.
This makes me so happy.
Del toro's best performance ever was in fear and loathing in las Vegas. If u haven't seen it defo check it. Unbelievable.
Brilliant interview. I love when they're both talking about where they get that thing for their characters, like the way they speak as a certain character.
I love the adoration and respect they have for each other. The other is listening so intently as the other speaks. Bravo
wow, Benicio's English is fantastic. He has really mastered the language since his days/debit in "The Usual Suspects!"
Had to cut it off around 9:20 where Will Smith basically implys that he's the greatest entertainer in the world.
Two of my favorite guys! 😍
Wow! These two. Icons.
nice when actors so respect each other.
(I know, I'm late to the game, being 4 years ago... ;-)
