      I love cannas! I got my first last year but do to drainage issues I didn’t have much luck. So I will be getting more this year now that drainage issues will be fixed. We are redoing our back yard and I love your gardens so much I am definitely going to do my own separate little piece of paradise from the rest of the yard.

    Absolutely gorgeous! Canna Lilys are becoming one of my favorites plants. I purchased my first Canna plant in the summer of 2020 and was able to collect seeds. In 2021 and with the help of your videos, I successfully germinated about 12 seeds out of 15 and they grew beautifully! They started flowering in mid June and kept producing flowers until mid October. Of course I collected more seeds but I also saved the bulbs. I want to start my own little Canna collection so I will be visiting your Etsy store very soon. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and also the beauty of this amazing plants.

      Hi Jenny from PR: Thank you so much for your warm comments. Sorry it took so long to reply. Cannas are an amazing plant - there's so many varieties - there's something for everyone. If you get a chance, you should check out the 2021 Walk Through: th-cam.com/video/hO3LtC1_Jik/w-d-xo.html .
      Congratulations on such a great germination rate ... 12 out of 15 is wicked awesome! :-) Curious, which method did you use, we have (2) videos showing (2) different methods?
      With a little care and dedication, you'll be able to keep them growing from seeds or rhizomes for free, for years to come. Dan and I just spent all day cleaning up hundreds of rhizomes, getting them ready for next year's season. And tomorrow we'll be bottling up more seeds. :-) So you can keep an eye out, come the new year, for all of the new stocks on our Etsy page. Thank you so much for watching! Good Luck with all of your gardening. Jackie and Dan

      @@jdgardensnj4563 I actually tried both methods. And I have to say, scarification and wet paper towel in a ziplock bag (placed in a worm and dark place) is the winner in my book. I was able to see what seeds were viable and discard the ones that remained dormant. I get as much pleasure to see the sees germinate and grow as I get when they flower.

    If they are sterile I would deadhead them and remove the seedpods to stimulate growth of new flowers.

    Love your canna garden. Question? at what point is it best to harvest the seeds?

      @jdgardensnj4563  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi @CVenza . Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for reaching out to us and thank you for the compliment. The best time to harvest the seeds is when the seed pod looks like a splitting peanut shell. We have a video with examples. You can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/N4n76VhUlnc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=H6Qt1xZ1ktYKqe_Q . Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan.

    Question: when should we start canna seed plants from seeds for summer planting in maryland? Saw your process w scoring and planting for grow lights

    • @jdgardensnj4563
      @jdgardensnj4563  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jane West Walsh: Thanks for the comment. It'll really depend on how much space you have to grow them in. The earlier start, the bigger they're going to get. Maryland is not too different from NJ, so you're not going to want to plant them outdoors until mid to later May. So if you start them earlier in the year, that's a good 4 months for them to grow. We have a greenhouse with plenty of space so when we start them under grow lights in late January, we're usually moving into the greenhouse by mid March. So, unless you have alot of space for them to grow indoors till mid May, I would tell you not to start them until early to mid March. Hope that helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

    Would you happen to know how many colors/varieties there are?

    • @jdgardensnj4563
      @jdgardensnj4563  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi @CVenza . Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for reaching out to us. There are several hundred different varieties and what makes it harder is that people are coming out with new hybrids all the time. So I don't think there's a definitive count but what we can tell you is that there are NO blue or purple ones. If anyone tells you they can sell you one, they're lying to you. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

    I have a question. I liked how you stored and shipped the seeds I order while back. Since your in a business I am assuming you shopped around for a good price on the bottles you used. were can I order the bottles from. I am wanting them for seed storage of different colors and types so they stay organized. when I was searching 2 dollars a bottle seemed a bit on the pricey side.

      Hi @ticouna . Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for the comment. Not sure but it could be one that is not really known for it's bloom and more it's leaves, like Musifolia, which grows wicked tall, like yours. You can check out our 2023 Walk Through video where we show you our Musifolia and see if that looks like yours: th-cam.com/video/z4kgqIfFfbA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Uus4RK4OirAYlMeh . Hope that helps. Hi @wacoharder . Thanks for the comment. Yes, cannas do like to grow and bully their way around the garden, lol. But that's why we have Garden East devoted to cannas. And we always dig them up at the end of the season and store the rhizomes for the winter. So that's never really a problem for us :-) . Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

    Wow this is amazing! Do you have issues with the Japanese beetles at all?

    • @jdgardensnj4563
      @jdgardensnj4563  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Northeast Hardy Tropicals: Thanks for the comment. Sorry for the delay in responding. No, we haven't had any problems with Japanese beetles. Oddly enough, not too many things bother cannas, that we've found. Every now and then, you'll get a rolling caterpillar punching some holes in leaves but no real harm to the plant. We started getting in our area, Spotted Lanternflies, and we thought they were going to be a problem for us. Our neighbors trees had thousands of them, and I'm not kidding, right over our fence. Luck enough, they did not leave with any of our gardens, so knock-on-wood... :-) Thank you for watching! Jackie & Dan

      Hi @gigigg9763 . Thanks for the comment - sorry for the delayed response. No, that's one of the great things about canna lilies ... deer don't touch them. Neither do squirrels or other critters. They're GREAT for pollinators, even hummingbirds. We highly recommend them! Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
