I am so happy u didn't let thing in your life discourage you for more forward in life but to take a chance to see what what's out there to better your life and situation it didn't stop and I commend you for pressing forward.
I was sad to have my koi pond filled in after my husband passed. I had a big bare place in the corner of my fenced yard. I paid a kid to help me plant 4 or 5 potted plants. I told him some had 3 small ones and to seperate them. My fence sits on slightly higher ground and is 5ft The canna lillys are almost that tall. I cant believe how many and their big leaves fill out the area Yellow, red, and a coral colar. I water every other day. SO HAPPY. WANT THEM EVERY YEAR (Kansas)
No one ever mentions the problem oh “cannas taking over a flower bed”. Left alone, they spread like wildfire. And if you ever want to get rid of them, digging the up is just the first step. Any part of the rhizome left will come up the next spring. You’ll be digging for two or three springs. They are best grown and contained in pots.
Living in Florida, all canvas get rust disease come May. Wish they could come up with a canna that is disease resistant. Not into spraying every two weeks with a fungicide!
I have so many and the leaves are so big. I don't have trouble with drooping. After a rain the blossoms don't look as good but new ones come out all the time and the sun helps. (Kansas)
I tried growing these for the first time this year. Well... first I planted them too late in the Spring, by the time the cooler temperatures arrived in October in the Pacific NW, they had not even gotten to bloom yet, the first flower spike was just beginning to flower and then it got too cold and the flowering stopped. What a nightmare it has been with these plants. I had issues with snails, caterpillars and slugs eating the leaves. The organic pesticides did nothing, the mild pesticides did little. I had to hit them with the heavy duty pesticides or loose the plants. After all the work I was not about to let them die back without trying to get them to flower indoors. Big mistake! Now I am dealing with what I think are fungus gnats. Argh... So now I am fighting that battle to get rid of all the gnats. I only hope they flower indoors to make all this work worth it. These things seem highly susceptible to lots of pests from my experience.

Do you have a problem with your cannas staying upright while blooming? Mine tend to fall over. Any suggestions?
I have the same problem. When they bloom, the bloom falls over; especially after a good watering. Did you ever find a solution?
@@pamhall3712 I haven't yet unfortunately. It sucks because it shortens the amount of time I can enjoy them. If you get any ideas please share.
