Great job, I loved your canna flowers, especially fire dragon and tropicana and bengal tiger. Keep it up.
Question: Could a person lay some thick plywood down as a type of subflooring to help achieve a more level area and use the walkmaker on top of this subfloor?
Great video!! Thanks!!
why you put it in fridge? is it need cold treatment?
You will grow weeds and grass and maintenance sucks. Spraying chemicals will ruin the soil. Try using polymetric sand instead of dirt.
Best compost bin video!
We're glad you enjoyed it!
When do you start germinating? Can lily seeds indoors for spring planting?
🔥 🔥🔥🔥
This looks simple enough for me to do. Thanks.
Looks good
I dont know the specifics of compost bin creation and engineering but it sure looks good!
I was interested in the fact that you grew them in pots. I have a Hosta Garden that used to full of all kinds of hostas. The last few years we've suddenly got a huge number of rabbits and they have decided my hosta garden was their salad bar. They ate almost all of them right to the ground. Most did come back the next spring but all summer it was bare. Some never came back so the garden has about 1/2 of the plants we had. I even tried spraying Liquid Fence and the only thing it deterred was me. I do have one huge one they don't seem to like. It's an Empress Wu and it's about 3' tall and 4'wide. I should separate it but I am afraid I will kill it if I try. I love the variegated ones and it seems rabbits don't like them. I am going to get more of those and put the green ones in pots.
🤔
Time to clip back and cover up.
I love hostas. There are so many varieties to plant in the garden. They do very well on shady sides of the house. ❤
Yes they do
Yeah I'm gonna pick some seeds tomorrow. Mainly hibiscus and cannas seeds.
I picked a few pods when the seeds were white,l feel thats the actual seed and it grows the hard shell, lve put five white no shell and a few look like the may be starting bence no more filing if this is successful will keep you posted.
Celosia self seeded EVERYWHERE on our property. We haven't planted it in 4 years and its still coming up, even in our gravel and the the soil is about 3 feet below the gravel. No clue how its alive lol
They are tough, aren’t they? We are finding them in places we didn’t even think was possible. lol
Getting the composed out is definitely the hardest part
New to the channel and fellow New Jerseyan . Totally new to Canna's and loving it. When should I dig my rhizomes up? I am really looking forward to growing my own from seeds next year . Thanks for sharing all you do.
Hi @BoxcarJerry (fellow New Jerseyan) - sorry for the delayed response - we were on vacation last week. Thanks for reaching out to us. You still have plenty of time. As I'm sure you've noticed, we've gotten a little bit of a heat wave (81 degrees in Central NJ today - WOW!) I'm thinking that we're going to have well into November so until the real frost comes for several days and your canna leaves and stalks all look brown, you'll be OK. Even when they look that bad, don't worry, the rhizomes are in perfect shape. We usually don't start digging ours up until mid-December. If you want to know how to store your cannas during the winter, we have a video that you can check out here: th-cam.com/video/p_fcjRkyBY4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JiX5zp6SZ5S6f4Nu . If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us again. Also, if you're interested in growing from seeds, you can check out our Etsy site at: www.etsy.com/shop/JDGardensNJ . We sell a large variety of seeds and plants during the season. Right now, we're in the middle of packaging up our seeds to get ready for the Fall seed selling season. They should all be online by mid-November. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
So how long after the seed germinates and you put it in the pot does it take to see growth . I've had mine germinated and in the soil for over week and don't see anything yet
Hi @staceycolarusso1805 . Sorry for the delayed response - we were actually on vacation last week. Not too sure. The only thing I would imagine it would be is that the seedling may not have been germinated enough or possibly that you buried it too deep in the soil. It's always important to leave the little white stem exposed. Or lastly, now sure where you're from, but as it's getting colder, the germinated seed might not have been strong enough to survive. We usually start our seeds indoors and underneath the grow lights using a heatmat. Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions. Jackie and Dan
The germinate amazing in the paper towel within 2 days I also like to leave them in water after scoring them those will germinate within a couple days also but what I did was I planted the embryo of the sea the white part that's already rooting out in the soil I believe I did it upside?? I wish you guys had the camera more close towards what you were doing potting but thank you for the response great video
dude roap rachets would have made this job a breeze
Hi @trontron-ed2qr . Sorry for the delayed response - we were actually on vacation last week. Where were you when we were doing this?! :-) Dude, I wouldn't have looked as tough if I didn't hold it up. ;-) Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
@@jdgardensnj4563 you only get one back if you can save it for a 10.99 ratchet please mate do it, there's nothing worse than back pain
Thank you for sharing your experience and time. Can I do these pavers on a tarp? I want to be able to move them to the walk way and as I reduce my grass footprint with wider beds I want to move the paver. I think if I did them in place it would be harder for me. What do you see as the downside of doing it this way? thanks for your time. (Love those cannas!)
Hi @joannesmith1287 . Sorry for the delayed response - we were actually on vacation last week. Yes, you can absolutely do that. We actually made a video placing the stones on a piece of wood. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/X6Wwvc25wJA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7X530iYiyoQrolDt . Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
You should set up a skunk trap in the future. That way, if you catch a skunk by mistake and they can't see you through the trap, they are very unlikely to spray at all.
I won't get that cold until December
I love canna lillies I about 100! Had to bring them in .....Indiana has already had its frost!!!
Nice work. I suggest utilizing biochar. It's really easy to make safely using 40 gallon steel drums. An Aussie guy made an excellent vid. Don't forget to innoculate it. Also, look in to lactobacillus free fertilizer. And lastly, hugelkultur is a blessing. All the best, look forward to seeing the progress.
Thanks for all the great ideas! We're always looking for ways to improve our composting methods!
Looks really good
Thanks for watching!
Hey! I have exactly the same set up with my 5 compost bins. That reminds me, it's time for me to turn the compost... UGH. Oh well, thanks for the reminder!!
I've seen this done. Just idk how you keep the flys down.
Hi @alecluna4921 . Sorry for the delayed response - we were on vacation last week. I know what you're talking about. It really has to do with what you're putting in your compost bin. I generally don't like to put much food scraps in my compost piles, just clippings and garden waste. This keeps the flies, pesky insects and raccoons away. I save all of my table scraps for my worm bin, which is totally covered, to avoid the insects. If you're interested in composting, we have plenty of videos under the playlist entitled: "Composting Videos". You can find alot of interesting videos there and we'll be doing a whole bunch of new ones this winter, using different methods and containers so keep an eye out for them. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
Don’t you want a footing for those first blocks ?
Hi @bandz2276 . Sorry for the delayed response - we were on vacation last week. Yes, at this point, I was kind of laying everything out. Now that I have all the spacing correct, I'm going to backfill the blocks and fill in the holes. You can see the latest progress in the short we made a few days ago: th-cam.com/users/shortsBN-1yOG7z5M?si=moaLoANG4gd2sUUq . I will be doing a full video on this in the near future, so keep your eyes out for it. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
Can you mix paver sand with topsoil to fill the cracks?
Hi @bootstrapstylerich . Thanks for reaching out to us. If by paver sane, you mean polymeric sand, then I wouldn't recommend it. Polymeric sand, once wet, will bond as it dries, similar to concrete. If you mix in top soil, you will more than likely ruin the bond. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
Just looked it up = FYI = paver sand does come in colors like black and brown too.
Is there a heaters built inside the greenhouse?
Hi @JenniferSmith-rc9pv . Thanks for reaching out to us. Yes, we do have a heater, we fuel it with propane. We made a video a couple of years ago when we put it in. You can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/5vNLQqESETU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HznWuMHZbipQWoVd . If you have a greenhouse and you're interested in heating it, The Mr. Heater has a couple of different sizes that might work for you. Also, we have another option to help keep the soil in your planter beds warm over the Winter, and that's by using heat cables. You can see the video we made for that one here: th-cam.com/video/JKpMbmUtRY8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UPbOF6TUOUYNNV_b . Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
Enjoy the cooler weather. It's still hot and miserable here in Texas.
Hi @brandonallen9853 . Thanks for reaching out to us. It may be hot and miserable in TX but I bet your garden looks great! :-) We love the Fall, but it's always sad, here in the Northeast to see all of our plants start dying out :-( . But it gives us something to look forward to next year. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
Do you need to freeze the seeds first?
No
Hi @dizzyfingers7180 . Thank you for reaching out to us. No, you don't need to refrigerate/freeze seeds. They will stay fine stored in a bag. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
Can I start taking my canna lilly infor winter or so I hav to wait for a frost
Hi @rosemoss7166 . Thanks for reaching out to us. If by taking them in, you mean storing the rhizomes away for the Winter, then NO, you probably still have plenty of time. You will want to cut them down once the frost really sets in and pretty much turns all the plants brown. Don't worry, the rhizomes are safe in the ground. It's just that the plant portion of it is dying out. That's the time you'll want to dig them out. But enjoy them while you have them. We just had our 1st frost warning the other day but in the next couple of weeks, we see the nights are going to be in the 50's so our cannas should be fine well into November, if not longer. If you're not familiar with digging up your rhizomes for the Winter, we have a video you can watch here: th-cam.com/video/p_fcjRkyBY4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JdpmWqZ9KQfJspha . Note: In the video how bad the canna leaves and stalks look but the rhizomes were perfect! Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

This is interesting
Hi @hobowitness1234 . Thanks for reaching out to us. If you enjoyed that, you should check out our video when we started the worm farm. You can see it here: th-cam.com/video/3mvtFEuYxlo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=B8UXcUG511xU_YTh . Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
Got a few more weeks before I take mine down in Texas 8B
Amazing garden man
Hi @dylanmcfadden1229 . Much appreciated! Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
The algorithm has graced me once again
Have you dropped seeds in boiling water and remove after you hear a crackle instead of filing and scoring?
Hi @lindaingersoll8726 . Thanks for reaching out to us. We've tried that method in the past and never had much luck with it. We've found that scoring the seeds works bets for us. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
That's my dream greenhouse
HI @goldriderlc . Get in line. ;-)

MULTĂ TRĂNCĂNEALĂ !
i miss the one i grew up with. When google first made their maps, in our neighborhood our tree stood out as the only dark tree in the area, it looked black from satellite image.
Do you put down barrier to keep the canna lily from spreading
Hi @Sue-bl6ec . Thanks for reaching out to us. We don't use a cloth barrier but we do use plastic edging to stop the cannas from growing into each other. You can see a short video we made of it here: th-cam.com/users/shortsxzQVailx1u4?si=GM3e8u5TCOfo2fnn . Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
Thanks for sharing and telling the costs along with the process.
Any time!
Wish we had a miserable rainy day in Texas lol
