My grandma love this song and really love it as he would always put on this song whenever I came to visit. There song Pass the Dutchie is probably their most popular song.

I bought their ablum when I was sixteen. However, I didn’t realize how talented they were until a month ago. Since then, I've been listening to their first album every day. I've also listened to their new album and to Kelvin's album. Some good stuff too. It hurt my heart to realize how the record company didn’t know who they'd signed. They needed to stick to reggae, not R&B. Well, at least we have the music they made as a legacy.

I first saw Musical Youth on a children's programme in England shortly before they became famous, and I also saw them in concert when they visited Barbados in 1984. I have often wondered what became of them because I had heard stories that were not too pleasant.

Wow. The other day I was feeling nostalgic when I was discussing with one of the drivers in the company, whom I suspected to be one of the younger members of the band, but was now a full-grown man: he assured me that he was not whom I thought he was, but he actually grew up about that time, and he indeed knew a few things here and there, about members of that band, but he'd rather not speak about it extensively - only that a few of them currently work normal jobs (now I understand).

@danavixen6274 And did you know that Musical Youth were signed to PWL which was Pete Waterman's record label in the U.K. Of course this isn't mentioned in this video! Funny Pete Waterman and I stress hated the song Pass The Dutchie when he first heard it LOL! Pete "Mix Master" Hammond remixed many of the bands early hits including Pass The Dutchie and Sixteen. 🏝🎸🕺💽

Their track: "Pass the dutché" was a very great hit back then.
Other tracks like "don't blame the youths" "007" "Watcha talkin'bout" "Tell me why" & "16," among many others were all beautiful hits back then.
Also their great colabo with Donna Summer on her album: "She works hard for the money" made them so popular in the hearts of many music lovers.
All of a sudden, they just faded into music oblivion.
May the souls of the fallen ones among them rest in peace.

Interesting video that needed to be shown, l always wondered what happened to musical youth over the years and l never seen any content creators covered them only up until now. It truly ashame they started off so well, then there career took nosedive just after they second album was released. Anyway there first track pass the dutchie pon the left hand side, will always be one of my favourite childhood reggae classic covers in the 80's a century where great music was produced and airplayed a lot on the radio.

What happened to Denis and Michael does not sound like a tragic downfall. Denis, in particular, seems to have a very strong work ethic and has done well for himself. And Michael's final quote on here showed that he has got the right attitude as well.

I'm a dj producer & had some interaction with relatives of the bands manager in the 90s. I was astonished to hear how they were mismanaged & exploited.
    .
Musical Youth had sponsorship from a sports company. The incompetent manager did not negotiate & sign for a percentage of sales .They just went to the warehouse & left with a trolley & handful of items.

Judge Mathis is almost unrecognizable now. He’s aged quite a bit in the last few years.

They never should have signed to MCA Records. They were a simple British reggae band and should have stayed that way. They should have signed to an independent label like Trojan Records or Greensleeves under Jet Star, one of the premier British reggae labels at the time. Stay with your own Black people and make pure reggae songs and the money would come in steadily. Instead, MCA pushed them too hard, gave them "royalty" cheques of £1 million [filmed for television in front of their family] without telling them that the label was extracting all costs out their profits and had them recording pop songs that didn't fit them. At the end, one singer had a nervous breakdown after experimenting with drugs, he drifts further into addiction and mental illness and dies and the band are broke because MCA UK (Universal Music) claimed all of the publishing and licensing rights for decades after the band was dropped from the label.
