- Who would have thought a television show about four mature women living in a house together in Miami, Florida, sharing bills, the ups and downs of life and a ton of cheesecake would become a global pop culture phenomenon? But that’s exactly what happened when American sitcom The Golden Girls came on the scene in the mid 1980s.

Betty White passing away still doesn’t seem real. All of them are really gone 🥺.
I still can’t watch the show without tearing up. And it was definitely one of my favorites, still is ❤. But the first few notes of the theme song, I’m legit crying. 😢

Felt the same as a kid whenever my aunts would watch it. Wasn’t until I was in my mid 20s did I watch it again and boy was it funny lol

This show is an enormous part of my life. My mom & I would watch every week. While I was pregnant we watched reruns. RIP to all the great ladies, including my mother.
The Golden Girls is literally my favorite show ever! I could watch it over and over, and still laugh as if I’ve never heard the jokes before lol.

I love the Golden Girls! I thinking of having my 40th Bday themed The Golden Girls! And I like the spin off The Golden Palace, it was for 1 season but I still loved it too! At different parts of my life, I've been one of the girls😂. It seems so surreal that they are all gone but not forgetten! 💜

RIP all 4 funny & fabulous ladies, Rue, Bea, Estelle & Betty I get a kick out all 4 of them each character are so different but yet come together to give up smiles & laughs. Sophia has always been my favorite Golden Girl she's an old lady who's Italian but speaks her mind & isn't afraid to call things & people out & is fiercely protective of her daughter Dorothy. Sophia uses her age to her advantage every chance she gets she's also a mother figure to Rose & Blanche both ladies admit they go to her room some nights to talk about their problems to her which surprised Dorothy.

The switch of Blanche and Rose characters by the actors who played them was nothing short of brilliant. That’s partly why Bea Arthur took the part. Bea was upset because Betty won the Emmy first. I’m surprised Bea and Rue wasn’t that close. They seemed as if they would be close since they did Maude together. It was Rue that sent Bea the Golden Girls script! Rose and Sophia’s clothes were off the rack. Bea’s and Blanche’s clothes were custom made. In the first episode of Empty Nest, they made jokes directed at Rita Moreno because she bad mouthed her experience there.
I love The Golden Girls. Out of all the characters, my favorite was always Dorothy. Her quick wit and sarcastic remarks, especially toward Rose's dimwitted comments, always cracked me up.
One of favorite go to shows to bing watch every now and then, GG has aged like fine wine. Love it! RIP my girls!

Who would have known as a 45 year old Black man now, that I still watch the reruns faithfully to this day and somehow can relate to a totally different demographic.
Same here 80's kid grew up watching lots of 80's to 90's shows and movies etc. As a child in 80's era my grandmother and I evenings spent together watch The Golden Girls was my cherished memoiries of us. We both loved the show. Especially love the theme song, too. By the way you are a year older than me.
Please cover the show Roc. Loved it and never understood why it got canceled. Charles Dutton is a great underrated actor. Never understood why he wasnt bigger. Such a strong presents on screen. Love your work darlin. Been telling my friends.
Oh wow. So the initial concept of this show was indirectly brought on by Miami Vice. Interesting. You learn something new everyday. It had one of the best tv sitcom intros. Can you do one on the group "4 Example"?

I used to watch Golden Girls with my grandma every single weekend that I went to visit her as a little girl. I always laughed at the fact that my granda was built just like Sophia but had the sweetness and kindness of Rose. RIP to all the Golden Girls, but especially to my Grandma Helen💖🙏🏾

Absolutely one of the best sitcoms in television history. I STILL watch the Ladies of the Lanai every Sunday on TVLand. Though I've seen all of the episodes dozens of times over the decades, it never gets old, and still remains just as funny. There'll never be another ensemble like Bea, Betty, Rue, and Estelle. Betty came from tv, Bea came from the stage. Tv actors then were viewed as less gifted so when Betty won an award first for GG I’d say it annoyed Bea. Plus, Bea performed GG like a play and didn’t like to break the fourth wall while Betty would address the audience during bloopers and Bea didn’t appreciate this

I ❤️ the Golden Girls to this day! Seasons 1-4 are the best! ...and as a black woman, I was NEVER offended by the "black face" in the Mixed Blessings episode 🙄 It was innocent and funny which is why I enjoyed the show. Our society and culture has gone overboard with the P.C. 🤦🏾
